Scarletrose |
But the strength of Cayden Cailean fails Gavin somehow.
He aims for the corpse but the metal ball goes too far and all he manage to do is harmlessly brush over the shoulder with the chain itself.
As if encouraged by Gavin failure, another undead steps forward and aims for the man of faith.
Bedu and tessa next
Tessa Steele |
Tessa analyzes the situation and frowns. She shouts over to the boys up front, "I'm not going to be much good back behind you in this hallway. Do either one of you want to step back and let me know show you how to hit them?"
She looks behind her at the door and frowns.
Maybe I can get behind them through here? No. Too risky.
She looks back at the group thinking about what to do.
Bedu the Barber |
Bedu waits for an opening, his curved sword still sheathed. He begins to hum and quickly turns it into a few well turned phrases on the slowness of shamblers and the need to strike hard and fast.
Perform (inspire courage, 6/7 remaining), +2 attack and damage.
Scarletrose |
I moved the zombie 2 forward, so Kutsya can take her turn as well and then the second turn from Erick. Just a couple of things.
Perform (inspire courage, 6/7 remaining), +2 attack and damage.
unless there is something I did not notice that modifies your inspire courage I believe is a +1 on both.
Also, Gavin did not perform a move action this turn, so he can eventually step back 5' and leave room for Tessa if he so wishes.I feel my description can be deceiving. When I say that the zombie does not recoil at all, I mean the zombies have a damage reduction that the projectile do not manage to overcome or surpass. All three zombies are completely unharmed right now.
Erick Bonestihl |
Nope, I got it. Erick just doesn't have the right knowledge skill to know a gunshot is unlikely to hurt zombies. Theoretically the bullet hit and went through, since it hit touch ac, it just didn't do enough damage to be useful. Darn zombies and their DR. :) I'll go ahead and make my attack, since it's unlikely anything Kutsya or Tessa do will affect it, and it'll save time later.
Attack, 2H 9-Ring Sword: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 Le Sigh
Tessa Steele |
If gavin is going to step back then Tessa will step forward and attack. If he doesn't then I suppose she could draw her crowssbow and attack, but with Erick's attack not hurting it she'd be less inclined. I guess a little more dialogue until then.
Tessa tries to eye the combat up ahead and shouts, "ERICK! GAVIN! What are those things?! Did your blasting not hurt them? I can try my crossbow, I promise to try and not hit you!"
Erick Bonestihl |
Erick grunts. "Look like rotting corpses, no blood to let out, bullet was useless. Arrows would be too. Chop 'em up maybe? Smash 'em with a hammer?" He sounds a bit out of sorts, not sure how to deal with walking corpses.
Bedu the Barber |
Bedu waits for an opening, his curved sword still sheathed. He begins to hum and quickly turns it into a few well turned phrases on the slowness of shamblers and the need to strike hard and fast.
Perform (inspire courage, 6/7 remaining), +1 attack and damage., oops!
Bedu searches his mind for why the bullets did not work. He tries to remember all he can of shamblers.
Knowledge (religion) check please.
Kutsya Saltenlock |
"Crabs," Kutsya says, with a slight smile on her face. "It's just crabs over here, hiding in the dark. Nothing to worry about. Maybe after the fight Master K will want to go play."
Then the witch moves directly behind Gavin, removing an Alchemists Fire from her pack as she does so. She gently lays one braid on Gavin's shoulder, and nudges him to move behind Erick, so that Tessa can advance.
Erick Bonestihl |
Please add 1 to Erick's hit and damage then. Wasn't sure what to add until Bedu confirmed +1.
Scarletrose |
Since tessa stated her intentions anyway I will move her on the map and roll the attack for her so that we can go forward.
Tessa Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Tessa Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Tessa tries to stab the undead but the lunge angle is a little bit off, the blade fails to penetrate the rotten leather vest and Just deflects to the side.
Meanwhile Erick is more successful with his heavy blade. he slashes through the vest all the way to the corpse's torso.
The Undead is clearly damaged by the blade, but none the less advances putting his arms around Erick Shoulders and biting the air coming closer and close to him.
Erick, you have a AoO on the zombie for attempting a grapple
Bedu, you don't recall anything useful right now
Erick Bonestihl |
AoO: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
"Begone! You are not my type!"
Scarletrose |
Erick puts more pressure on the blade already lodged in the undead torso.
He sinks lower and lower into his flash until a loud crack can be heard.
The pelvis of the zombie breaks in half from the pressure of the blade.
The zombie legs are unable to support him anymore and he falls ungraciously on the floor while rotten guts spills from the wide wound on his belly.
He bites the air a couple of times more before stopping completely.
Zombie 1 is down, Gavin you are up
Gavin d'Bourgemont |
Nostrils flaring, Gavin yells, "मुझे के माध्यम से करते हैं!", while trying to recall if he's ever known anything about the risen dead. Damn this celestial voice!
knowledge [religion] check please +5 modifier.
Free action: talk, free action: knowledge
Scarletrose |
Holy powers that usually would heal a living being are able to harm them.
Gavin d'Bourgemont |
"उन्हें स्लेश! बड़े तलवार चाल करना चाहिए!"
I'll go ahead and end my turn here, figuring my colleagues will have these risen dead well in hand.
Tessa Steele |
Having missed the first time, Tessa grits her teeth and tries again. She lunges forward with her blade but misses once again.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Damn Tessa! Focus girl, they aren't even alive! Are they?
She curses aloud in frustration at her second miss.
Tessa Steele |
I don't know why but this keeps coming into my head for our Battle Music.
Scarletrose |
Sorry for the delay.
The zombie before Tessa tries to grab her as well without worrying about his defences he lunges at her without coordination while savagely biting the air.
grapple attempt: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
But the zombie is too slow and ungraceful for Tessa who manages to avoid being caught.
Tessa has a AoO against the zombie. Also, I feel the need to say that I DO NOT ENDORSE that song as the official battle music for this encounter. :P
as a matter of fact... If you like the Idea I think I cat put some mood music on the top of the page. Just don't expect much German techno Tessa :P
Tessa Steele |
As the disgusting hunk of flesh tries to swipe at Tessa she deftly steps aside and leverages the opportunity to slash her blade across it's back.
Attack!: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
"Take THAT! And keep your rotten mitts off me!"
Not a fan of Zombie Nation, eh?:)
Erick Bonestihl |
So, Kutsya then me again, yes? Oh, and can we get a perception check to notice that Tessa's rapier didn't appear to do anything to the zombie? That whole DR 5/slashing thing? I'd love to be able to say that out loud so the characters can switch to the right type of weapons. As to mood music, I would have to endorse this or this or this. Also, for our travelling montages, this.
Scarletrose |
bedu and zombie 2, then it's you and Kutsya.
The plade pierces the zombie rotten flesh puncturing several organs in it's way. Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to do much to stop the zombie.
the relentless undeads seems to be unfazed by anything but the utter dismemberment of their bodies.
now you have the zombie themed music at the top of the page
Erick Bonestihl |
"Gah, Tessa, step back, you're not going to do anything with that pig sticker. You need an axe or a sword, chop them into bits." Erick says, seeing the rapier do nothing to the corpse.
Too slow for combat music. That's more like ambiance music while exploring the dungeon before the zombies attack.
Erick Bonestihl |
Erik grunts as he pushes at the zombie. "Not as much as my sword, but a hell of a lot more than that pigsticker. Save that for things that bleed something other than maggots."
Bedu the Barber |
Bedu continues to perform, exhorting the rest to bring the fight to the unliving and slash for the throats and vitals.
Bardic performance, inspire courage +1 attack/damage (5/7 remaining)
EDIT: and pulls out his scimitar.
Erick Bonestihl |
Erick brings the heavy sword up and then down on the thing that bit his arm. "Hey, I just had that cleaned, mended and polished you walking cadaver." He tells it, annoyed.
Attack: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 3 + 1 = 15
Damage: 1d8 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 3 + 1 = 11
Kutsya Saltenlock |
"Fire in the hole," Kutsya calls out, then tosses her alchemist's fire at the third zombie.
Attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21 vs touch AC
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4 fire damage
And my battle music tends to be stuff like this or this.
EDIT: Can you crit with splash weapons? Here are some rolls just in case...In any case, the zombie will be on fire and take the same damage next turn. I also believe everyone next to it takes 1 pt (sorry).
Attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 5
Erick Bonestihl |
Yes, you can crit with anything that requires an attack roll, which is why the halfling can sometimes grapple the dragon, but he's not sure what to do with it once he does. Although I don't think that 8 hit, but you never know, it might, it's touch. And if we're going to go for anime fight music, you can't leave out the classic.
"Gah! We need to talk about tactics at some point, and not attacking your allies..." Erick says, shaking bits of flaming oil off of himself.
Scarletrose |
Erick stikes at the zombie with a powerful strike, the blade buries itself deep on the shoulder almost halfway through the chest. The undead is definitely hindered by this as his whole right side dangle lifelessly from the rest of the body.
Then Kutsya throws her alchemist fire.
The other zombie is engulfed by flames but the incendiary liquid splashes around him, giving minor burns to both Tessa and Erick.
The worst happen to the other zombie though.
As a small flame burns his decomposed skin, something triggers in his instinct that until now was solely focused on food.
He desperately tries to shake the flame out of himself but his good arm can't reach it and the other cannot be moved.
In his struggle to put down the flame he shakes a little too much and the rotten flesh that still held his shoulder and arm attached to the rest of the body rips right off.
Completely off balance, the zombie falls to the ground while putrid blood and internal organs slips away from the open side of his chest.
The other zombie doesn't seem to care that much.
Despite being engulfed in flames all he still cares about is food.
he lunges forward with his burning limbs trying to grab Tessa
grapple attempt: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
you have a AoO but I'm afraid you are going to be grabbed by a flaming zombie.
you can expect anime and videogames music in the future, but there was nothing that said "zombies crawling out of darkness" to me.
Gavin d'Bourgemont |
In his struggle to put down the flame he shakes a little too much and the rotten flesh that still held his shoulder and arm attached to the rest of the body rips right off.
Completely off balance, the zombie falls to the ground while putrid blood and internal organs slips away from the open side of his chest.
Love it!
Tessa Steele |
AoO: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
"Alright, I'll--"
Just as Tessa was about to switch to her Dagger the foul creature reaches out to grab her. Having not gotten the dagger out yet she lunges with her rapier once more. She plunges the weapon into the creatures side, but fails to net a reaction.
"Yahhh, hey there don't you even think ab--"
Before she can recoil she is snatched up. She begins to struggles against her captor, shouting insults that are lost on it.
Erick Bonestihl |
Ok, that should bring us to the top of the round again.
Erick grimaces. "The lady said she wasn't interested!" He slams his nine-ring sword into the flaming zombie. "Go find a willing dance partner!"
Attack: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 3 + 1 = 12 It has the grappled condition now, so that should hit it anyway with penalties *knock on wood*
Damage: 1d8 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 3 + 1 = 8
Scarletrose |
there have been a little bit of confusion on the initiative (mainly caused by me.
there is no problem in having people declaring and rolling their actions before their turn.. but for the sake of clarity, I will give you a chronology.
the zombie dies.
then it's Gavin's turn
then zombie 3 grapples tessa and tessa does her AoO (which fails to damage the zombie
then is bedu, tessa and kutsya turn
then Erick attack takes action.
Also know that the zombie grapple attack comes with a free bite attack. I'm waiting to see if gavin is able to kill the zombie before the grapple takes effect. Also, on the beggining of kutsya turn the zombie will take fire damage, tessa will take damage as well if she has been grappled (which is almost certain by now)
so, to recap, gavin has a chance to spare Tessa a bite and a burn, everyone else has a chance to kill the zombie before Erick does at the start of the next turn
Erick Bonestihl |
Sorry, I've just been trying to keep track of when Kutsya goes, and then I go. :)
Gavin d'Bourgemont |
Eric, I was operating the same way. One thing we switched to in another game I'm in is to have all the bad guys go at the same time. Then whichever PCs go before the bad guys can post in any order, and whichever PCs go after the bad guys can post in any order. NPCs always go at 1. It seems to cut down on the confusion we were having in that game.
Gavin slides by Eric and raising his flail over his head rakes the weapon down the zombie's back, as it snaps and snarls at Tessa. "Tessa, તમે કરી શકો છો જો તેના પકડ બહાર મેળવો!"
attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
damage: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Heh, the first time I've rolled above a 10 in combat, I think!
Scarletrose |
Gavin rushes to the flank of the zombie and smashes his flail on his head.
The neck of the zombie breaks and tilts in an unnatural angle.
But the relentless undead still points at Tessa despite the damage.
he grasp Tessa's shoulder with one hand while the other arm cling around her waist and with his head still turned horizontal by Gavin's blow he bites her between the neck and shoulder.
Bite damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
As the zombie bury his teeth on Tessa's flesh another source of pain start to build up, it start as an unbearable heat and slowly turn to a vicious burn.
The flames that surround the zombie are starting to burn on her skin.
burn damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1
But at last, Erick sword falls on the zombie's back bringing him down.
Unable to keep pressure on Tessa's flesh, his jaws simply detach from her, leaving behind a deep bloody bite mark.
I jumped to Erick action because Kutsya and Bedu actions would have been inconsequential. the zombie would have died anyway without harming anyone else.
This is the end of the encounter, you are free to act as you want now.
Bedu the Barber |
Shame, Bedu was going to step in and attack in melee for once. Nevermind. Heal check please.
Bedu checks over the various wounds caused. He prepares to cure lightly anyone badly damaged.
Erick Bonestihl |
Heal: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 Hmm, probably not
Let's try profession(sailor)
Profession (Sailor): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10 Meh should do it
"Gavin, that endless cup of grog of yours, pour some grog on the bite, no telling where that thing's mouth was earlier." He waits while Bedu checks Tessa over. "You feel ok? Kutsya, you can see in the dark, any more of these things in line of sight?"
Scarletrose |
Tessa is not doing so well.
The bite didn't damage anything vital but she's definitely losing blood, and sure will hurt like hell, especially if she turns her head.
You can't probably say by just looking at it a few seconds after it happened but you don't see any obvious sign of infection or anything like that going on.
in game terms she is 6/11
Bedu the Barber |
"By the desert sun of warmth and life I see your pain in that bite, pretty Tessa. Here I can heal you a small gift, but we should give praise for the small mercy that is no poison in the wound. I do not think your hurt is so bad Gavin. Just a burn."
The little Katapeshi waddles round tending to the cuts and bite. His manner all business for once.
cure light wounds on Tessa 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
