Dots all around.
Amsheagar |
You are in a room, waiting for the venture captain. Feel free to have your characters introduce themselves.
Duskin Veilsong |
Duskin isn't any shy at all; he smiles at all the other presents as best as he can. He's somehow handsome, and his voice is very pleasant.
- Nice to meet you all! - he starts, arms open - I'm Duskin Veilsong, the Puppeteer.
He walks in his small steps across the room, looking at the other pathfinders.
- It's a pleasure to be with my fellow adventurers! - and opens even more the dark, shadowy smile, waiting for other introductions.
Kuwabara Kasei |
Where are we? The Goka pathfinder lodge?

Amsheagar |
Correct Kuwabara
Kuwabara Kasei |
Kasei has a platter of jasmine-scented tea, sipping slowly at the hot liquid as he watches the other pathfinders enter.
"Konichiwa, Mister Veilsong" he replies to the wayang. "I am Kuwabara Kasei, Bushi in service to the Lady Shizuru." An emblem of the Silver Crusade and a holy symbol of a sunburst around a katana hang from a chain around his neck.
"It is a fine thing to be so close to home again."
Gudrun Cairncarver |
A practical and down to earth dwarf like Gudrun appears somewhat out of place in such an exotic and mystical location as Goka. The dwarfs lack of manners or ettiquette haven't done much to improve that situation. However given the chain shirt he wears, the battleaxe and shortsword at his side, the daggers across his chest and the various tools and kits he shoulders, it's pretty evident that the blonde bearded dwarf takes what he does seriously.
"All reet. Name's Gudrun Cairncarver. I'll be yer trapsmith and an extra blade at yer side. Don't get in my way and I'll make sure ye don't get yer head cut off by some axe trap or break yer ankle in some damn goblin pit."
"Dead-Eye" Jones |
"Dead-Eye" is short, stout human with a thick, bushy, unkempt beard wearing scale mail (By his stature, you'd almost think him a tall dwarf). The heavy crossbow on his left hip barely clears the ground. He has 2 containers of bolts on his right hip. and a 2-handed hammer over his shoulder that looks almost too big for him to wield.
"Name's Jones, though some call me 'Dead-Eye.'" Noticing the Silver Crusade emblem, he gives a subtle nod of acknowledgment to Kuwabara. "It's nice to meet you all. I'll be your sharpshooter this fine adventure. . . So, does anyone know where we'll be heading?"
Saarai Shae |
An athletic and shapely tiefling slinks into the room. Walking past Gudrun, her tail caresses his shoulder, almost like a hand. Whether the tiefling intended to do this or not is unclear, as she is looking ahead.
Finding a seat, she stretches luxuriously before addressing the others.
"I'm Saarai Shae," she says. "I'll be dealing with scouting, traps, and other stealthy operations. I'm well-equipped to handle a variety of problems," she adds.
Almost as an afterthought, she says:
"Before I became a Pathfinder, I used to be a Taldorian duchess with wealth beyond your wildest imagination...quite the change of events in my life!" she muses quietly as she plays with the tufting of her chair.
bluff: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (6) + 18 = 24
Duskin Veilsong |
Duskin smiles to all of his companions, shaking his head affirmatively, and then approaches Saarai.
- Oh, a duchess! What a pleasant company! - says, not disbelieving her even for the split of a second - Wealth, you said, huh?
He now seemed even more interested. The archivist approaches her with curiosity.
Duskin uses a small symbol of the Dark Archive, almost unnoticeable, and if he notices the same in Saarai, he will subtlely point to his.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7 GM, here's a roll, if needed, to notice any other faction symbols besides hers
Kuwabara Kasei |
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Kasei arches an eyebrow, trying to recall a Taldoran duchess with tiefling blood, but with a mental shrug, figures that these avistani have strange customs. He puts the cup of tea down, and gives a courtly bow, appropriate for greeting nobility, to Saarai, and bows to Duskin, Gudrun, and Jones as well. His bow to Jones includes a similarly subtle acknowledgement of their shared allegiance.
Kasei's symbol isn't hidden, and he's not cagey about being part of the SC.
Amsheagar |
After everyone introduced themselves, the group was called into Venture-Captain Amara Li’s office and explained the situation below.
The Pathfinder Society has turned its attention to the Ruby Phoenix Tournament—a world-renowned fighting competition, held once every ten years in the city of Goka on the eastern continent of Tian Xia. More specifically, the Decemvirate is interested in the incredible prizes available to the tournament’s winner—a choice of treasure from the legendary vaults of Hao Jin, the Ruby Phoenix herself. As part of the preparations for the tournament, Pathfinder Society agents have been deployed across the Inner Sea and beyond to seek out forgotten lore, allies, and magical items to be used by the Society’s tournament representatives.
Venture-Captain Amara Li, leader of the Lantern Lodge and Goka native, has uncovered information about one such item hidden amid the reaches of the Wall of Heaven—an Iroran relic known as the Braid of a Hundred Masters. Organizing the search from her base in the Dragon Empires, she intends to send a group of Pathfinders to the high mountain range in search of the braid’s ancient home: the Clouded Path Monastery. The two-week-long journey to the mountains began in the cosmopolitan city of Goka, passed through the surrounding villages and farmlands, and led thousands of feet up into the tallest mountain range on Golarion; all that remains is the final day’s journey up from the base camp.
If you wish to buy anything for the adventure, this is the last chance you get.

The rolls before posting:
Knowledge (Geography): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21 (got DC 20)
Knowledge (Local): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9 (failed)
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11 (got DC 10)
Given my information about the place, I'll buy Cold Weather outfit (8 gp) and a small Tent (10 gp)
- The Clouded Path Monastery, huh? - said, then looked at the other shaking his hands, as if warning them - Sounds chilly!
He then approaches the captain (or whoever is giving them the orders):
- What about this Braid? What do we know about it?
If needed and possible, gathering information...
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19
Amsheagar |
Other than the information in the spoilers, the captain can give you no more information. Technically, at the start of the scenario, you're not face to face.
"Dead-Eye" Jones |
Knowledge Geography: 1d20 ⇒ 16
Untrained so max 10.
Knowledge Local: 1d20 ⇒ 10
Diplomacy: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (17) - 1 = 16
"Hmmm. An ice demon, huh?
Saarai Shae |
Saarai purses her lips.
"I know a lot of things about a lot of places...except this one. All I know is that nobody has seen the monks of the Clouded Path Monastery in years. In the past, the monastery often sent a small group of them to the mountain’s base camp to trade for the goods the monks could not produce for themselves in the harsh mountain environment. Sounds like either something happened to the monks, or they have secluded themselves even more than monks usually do. Crazy," she says.
knowledge local: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10
Kuwabara Kasei |
Knowledge(local): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
"Ice demons? I've heard Yetis hunt there. I'm not sure if they're ice demons or something else, but we'll need to be well prepared. Warm coats at least are necessary, that they are. The greatest danger will probably be the legendary Shang Xu, I've heard locals speak of his raids. Is anyone learned in the lore of Yetis?"
Amsheagar |
As far as Duskin knows, his aunt is no where near the mountains at this time of year. However, he can't recall where is cousin is currently staying, she might be there. So it is a good possibility that there be yeti in these mountains.
Coming along with you on this journey are two explorers, who are familiar with the area. Xue Ho and Hai Xuan. They rely on you for protection as you rely on them for direction.
The base camp site, only a few hundred feet above the forest line that covers the lower reaches of the Wall of Heaven, offers a panoramic view of the surrounding farmlands, far below. The half-flooded terraced farmlands appear silver and mirrored in the late afternoon light. The camp itself is little more than a trio of unmaintained wooden shacks surrounding the remnants of a large firepit and a fallen wooden corral fence to the east.
Saarai Shae |
Saarai approaches the base camp site, eyeing everything. She takes in the majestic views of the mountains and the farmlands below.
"Let us hope we can easily find this artifact," she tells the others.
perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 20
knowledge local: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
"Dead-Eye" Jones |
Jones hikes into camp, taking in everything around him.
Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
"Nice view. We should make sure nothing has taken up residence in the buildings and setup camp while we still have light."
Duskin Veilsong |
1: GM, I rolled the Nature for my knowledge about Yetis (Monstrous Humanoids)... Sorry I didn't make myself clear.
2: By the way... Do we get faction missions at all? Long time I don't play PFS itself. Is it plausible to assume I'd know Saarai is from my faction, for instance?
Duskin goes with his companions and tries to organize himself in the small shacks. He's small and feeling cold and fear, but he doesn't reveal: instead, he prefer to keep smiling, telling stories and offering to read everybody else's hands, or their fates in the cards.
Amsheagar |
You have one question about the Yeti, use it wisely. "The Yeti stands like a man, yet is half again the height of most men and covered with a coat of thick white fur."
Faction missions are in the game description.
As you enter the camp, a white feline pounces from a hidden location above the camp. making two attacks on Jones,
attack 1: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
attack 1: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
and both miss.
Jones: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8 1d100 ⇒ 67
Duskin: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22 1d100 ⇒ 5
Gudrun: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22 1d100 ⇒ 83
Kuwabara: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
Saarai: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25
GM's Pet: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8 1d100 ⇒ 97

Not really Kuwabara, If you go ahead and post, i'll make a note of it and put you in that position in the attacks. If there is something that would you to halt your action, then i would give you a chance to change your action when that happens. Also, right now, it's all of you then me.. basically.
Duskin Veilsong |
About yetis: any weaknesses?
Duskin is clearly afraid, but tries to not look like it. He smiles and starts moving his arms as if holding a puppet in his hands and making him dance. He moves closer to the creature, but not too close, and then focus his performance to create another creature: a shadowy one!
Move Action: Moving to the square right North of Saarai
Standard Action: Performance / Shadow Puppet to create a Shadow Eagle at the square to West of the creature. The Will DC to disbelieve is 14; if the creature makes the save, then please consider any damage the Eagle is doing to be only 20% of it :)
The Shadow Eagle appears in the air, close to the feline creature, and immediately proceeds to attack it with his talons and bite.
Bite: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8 probably didn't hit...
Talon 1: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19 maybe it hit...
Talon 2: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20 maybe it hit...
Damage (Bite): 1d4 ⇒ 1
Damage (Talon 1): 1d4 ⇒ 3
Damage (Talon 2): 1d4 ⇒ 1
Amsheagar |
Will save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
The snow leapord belives in the shadowy eagle and takes a total of 2 damage. 1/5 rounded up... not that much damage.
You know that they are vulnerability to fire.
Round 1
Saarai

Duskin -Action declared-
Kuwabara
GM's Pet
Jones
Gudrun Cairncarver |
If it fails the Will save (which a 6 does) it takes full damage I believe, so assuming both talons hit that would be 4 damage?
Amsheagar |
You are correct Gudrun.
Kuwabara Kasei |
It looks like I can charge, so I'll do that.
Kasei charges, yelling a guttural kiyai as he draws his katana and slashes at the white creature.
I didn't expect yetis this soon! he thinks as he attacks.
katana 2-handed: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 6 + 2 = 21
damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Saarai Shae |
Sorry, I should have said earlier that I always act in a surprise round because of my Wizard school, even if I'm surprised. If that works, I'll roll 2 attacks, one for the surprise round (against flat-footed since I'm higher in initiative than the creature), and then I'll roll my Round 1 attack
With a preternatural instinct, Saarai knows the creature will be there just a split second before it surprises the group. She sends a glob of acid at it before it can react.
"Look out!"
If that works, it's my surprise round action vs. flat-footed and dealing sneak attack dmg.
She then moves to the side and sends more acid at feline.
ranged touch attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 111d3 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 31d6 ⇒ 5
ranged touch attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 181d3 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Amsheagar |
the creature jumped out of a hiding spot above the camp. Give me a perception check of 22 to see him and if you succeed then you can have your surprise round attack. But, it doesn't matter right now anyway
After attacking once, the team gangs up on the young snow leopard, making short work out of him. combat over. I'll update later when I have good interwebs.
Saarai Shae |
Forewarned You can always act in the surprise round even if you fail to make a Perception roll to notice a foe, but you are still considered flat-footed until you take an action. In addition, you receive a bonus on initiative checks equal to 1/2 your wizard level (minimum +1). At 20th level, anytime you roll initiative, assume the roll resulted in a natural 20.
Kuwabara Kasei |
"This is not a yeti," Kasei observes. "All I saw at first was a flash of white fur. But this is a cat. I don't know the Taldane word... in Minkai this would be called a Hyoh."
He calls to the guides in Tien, asking them if they've seen leopards in this part of the trail before.
The stoic samurai looks down at the leopard. "It is a shame we had to kill it -- this is a beautiful animal."
Duskin Veilsong |
Duskin knees near Kasei.
- Yes, beautiful cat! - the bard says, and starts forming gestures with his hands, theatrically - ... We should probably continue our path, though. His friends might still be around!
The small Wayang looks the way ahead and the cliff, wondering what to do.
"Dead-Eye" Jones |
Caught by surprise and slow to react, Jones takes a 5 foot step back and raises his crossbow just in time to see the cat fall. He scans the area with his crossbow up for another, then lowers his crossbow and looks back at the cat.
"Yes, it's a lovely animal." If it didn't try to eat me.
Gudrun Cairncarver |
Gudrun says nothing, aside from arching an eyebrow in bemusement as his fellow Pathfinders discuss the beauty of a wild animal that just tried to kill them.
Amsheagar |
Do you want to rest after for the night and move on in the morning?
Saarai Shae |
I if it's night time coming on, we should just sleep and set off in the morning. I can keep first watch.
Kuwabara Kasei |
Climbing in the dark is a great way to find the shortcut back down to the bottom of the mountain.
Kasei will take 10 on survival for 13, which ought to be enough to skin the leopard for a decent, if not exquisite, pelt, which he will leave with the guides down below.
Also, Kasei asked the guides a question in my post above.
