Whether it's Shirak's attempt at diplomacy or simply luck, but there is no more movement from the forest of dead branches above you. As time passes you find that nothing much changes in your environment as you press on. The trees are just as black, and the ground is covered in the same thick carpet of leaves. When you stop to rest you can see how your tracks slowly fade away behind you. Even though you think you have travelled quite a bit you do not feel any fatigue (or it fades away if you were fatigued). It's a strange feeling, as if you can run endlessly without stopping to catch your breath. At the same time there is an oppressive influence between the trees that slowly creeps in your thoughts. You start imagining foes behind the trees, or other dangers that you can think of.

Shirak:
At some point you find that your wound has closed and you feel good again. Your hp are restored and the Str damage is gone.

On the hour: 1d12 ⇒ 1

A large stone outcropping appears ahead, a lone marker in this endless forest. A dull thumping can be heard from its vicinity, and a smell of stale liquor starts to creep into the air.

Daka:
You notice the rocks ahead are wet, but there is no rain or stream to account for the moisture.

Shirak:
It looks like a normal rock formation, except that there is no grass growing on it. The jagged surfaces are clean of dust and dirt and you realize there has been no erosion to soften the shape of the outcropping. You are probably looking at the true shape of the rocks, just like they would appear underground.

The slow thumping stops at the sound of your voices, but then resumes its rhythm again.

Actually, Torcet, you do not suffer from fatigue anymore, as you can see from my previous post :)

As you near the outcropping you can now clearly see the water that covers its surface. It is expelled in short bursts from cracks in the stone core and dribbles down, making the rock look yellowish. The thumping can be heard stronger now, and sounds like the hits of a mining pick against the stone. You will see the source of the sound any moment now.

The smell is stronger the closer you get, and you start feeling the alcoholic vapours in the air. At the same time the ground and the dead leaf cover get wet too (even if they do not look like it), the water leaking into your shoes as you continue forward.

Daka gives Torcet a wry smile "I'm not sure we have been safe for several days now..." He is just about to answer Shirak when something catches his eye, causing him to stop "Is that ale spurting from the rocks?" he says, shocked, his voice no longer a whisper. After a moment, he regains his composure and continues on.

He'll just walk right up to the outcropping, more curious than cautious now. He'll resist the urge to lick the rocks though :)

Torcet snickers at Daka's comment about being safe, and nods lightly, a nod of acceptance that there is little they can do against the fate that was brought unto them. He turns over to the rock, "What makes you think that is ale dear friend?" He enquires as he follows Daka slowly behind. Knowing by now never to take chances, he draws his sword as they move and gently waves his hand around. "Be there magic?"

Torcet:
The feeling you get from your spell is very familiar. Just like at the start of your journey when the silence touched you for the first time, you are now inside a magical artifact. However, this time there is no doubt about it that everything around you is the product of, and is constantly renewed by, magic. The view of the black forests bursts in bright light and you lose your step and fall down blinded by the effect. Ten seconds of blindness.

At the sound of Daka's voice the thumping stops again and the sound of someone running aroung the rocks is heard. A man appears, his face red and feet throwing piles of dead leaves and rivulets of liquid aside as he runs towards you. In his hand he has a heavy pewter mug that he has raised as a weapon. About fifteen feet before he reaches Daka he trips and smashes face down into the ground, at the same time as Torcet does the same.

Shirak's search of the dead man does not turn up anything. Actually the only thing that is not subjected to hasty decomposition is the pewter mug that he used as a weapon. As the druid makes his enquiry the corpse falls apart into what looks suspiciously like the ever present dead leaves. A minute later only the mug remains.

Another shiver goes through the ground and a distant scream is heard. However the acoustics of the forest prevent you from telling its direction and distance.

Daka winces at the sight of Torcet's investigations "Are you sure that's wise Torcet? It could be poisono..." The scream cuts his sentence short, and he looks around in a hopeless attempt to discern the direction "Hello?" he shouts as he draws his weapon again and takes off in a seemingly random direction "We're coming!".

"At least some aspects of balance are maintained even here" grumbles the druid as the body decays.

Snapping his head up at the sound, he tries to pinpoint it's source.

With an exaggerated sigh, he hollers "Daka! What good is running in a random direction? You could be fleeing that which is in need!"

Reyo watches Daka take off and immediately pursues the cleric.

I can't let him run off alone, two together are better than being apart.

Torcet watches as the two walk away between the trees and turns to Shirak.

"Isn't it better to follow them? This place does not feel right, it changes too much. What is the trees close between us and we are cut off?" With that he makes to follow Daka and Reyo.

As the detective starts walking another scream is heard, this time clearly coming from the left of Daka's chosen direction. It echoes through the trees and makes them shiver in waves! It's as if the dead looking trunks pass on the sound to one another. Three waves pass over you, each one carrying a higher pitch in the sound. After that the scream dies down in multiple echoes - the trees do not want to let it go and echo it for some time.

Looking for one or two "treasure hunters" to join the campaign due to people dropping out. All races and classes are acceptable as long as your character matches some kind of treasure hunter archetype. Read through the campaign info and gameplay to get familiar with the setting. What "treasure" you are looking for is up to you (feel free to make up any legends that match the lore of the campaign as presented in the campaign info/gameplay thread).

Looking for:
Complete character concepts (crunch can be done after you are accepted, but please ask about any third party material or highly specific non-fantasy alterations beforehand) including race/class, description and motivations, and how you match the archetype.

Characters will be inserted in the game immediately. If two characters are selected they will be travelling together when they meet the group. WHY they are travelling together depends on you after selection (it may range from "I'll help you carry that treasure sack" to "I'll help you carry that treasure sack and then bash you with my club").

Race builder allowed? If so, how much RP to spend? If not. Available races, whats max on the RP?

I see you have sphere casting and most of the party was good? If the Path of war is okay, I'd like to try making a maneuvers using class.

@Seth86: Sure, standard level 10 RP, you can choose a single advanced trait for spice (subject to approval)

@rungok: Absolutely :) (our sphere caster left, so we don't really have any spheres now, but still...)

Awesome. Thanks. Will have a look when i get home. =^^=

Dotting, will adjust the character tonight

Liberty's Edge

Dotting. Will post up something in a little bit.

Dot

Liberty's Edge

Concept:

Reyoris Nightflower
Elven Rogue (Investigator Archetype)

Physcial Description:
Reyo's skin is a light caramel color. Her hair is midnight black and typically bound tightly. If it's let down, it hangs past her waist. Her eyes are large and always moving around, observing everything around her. She is 125 years old, 6', 114 lbs. Lithe frame, wiry musculature. Very light on her toes.

Character Backstory:

Raised among a large community of forest-dwelling elves, Reyo was steeped in Elven culture from her earliest memories. Tales of knowledge gained and lost filled her mind with a zeal for history. She spent nearly 40 years studying with the lorekeepers of her community. Her studies gave her access to information about ancient Elven relics which had been lost to her clan for hundreds of years. It was the discovery of this 'stolen' history that set her off initially. Not content to allow items of such significance to remain in the hands of those that had taken them, she sought out physical training, so she could set out upon her maturity to recover what history she could. We find her now, nearly 15 years into her quest for the first major relic in her book: Al'drunath, Circlet of the First Forestlord.

Motivations:

Reyo happened upon a book of ancient tales of the first kingdom of Elves to inhabit the forests where she grew up. Though little remains of their society, save for a few broken structures and tattered scrolls, one story that managed to survive was that of Elvryc Owlheart. Elvryc was styled as the First Forestlord. The head of a family of Elves that had started what they considered an empire (but in reality was little more than a community of a few thousand souls). Already an accomplished wizard by the time they settled among the forests, he spent decades crafting a crown befitting a king of the forest. Made from entwined branches of holly, oak, and black elder, he infused the creation with arcane magic. Using a flawless uncut emerald as a centerpiece, he consulted with the druids of his family to petrify the wood, preventing it from ever rotting away. He named the circlet Al'drunath, after his wife and queen. All of the surviving descriptions and imagery (few though they may be) show Elvryc wearing the circlet. Legend says that the vast amounts of energy poured into the circlet over the decades Elvryc wore the crown imbued it with the power to make anyone that wore the device keener and of sharper mind and wit. To what extent this is true, no one knows. The last bit of information that she had was that during some time of strife in the past, a marauding band of upstart humans had goaded Elvryc's kin into battle. When the then Forestlord strode into the midst of combat, he was overmatched by the ferocity of the mercenaries and he fell. When, at last, the field of war cleared, they found his mangled body, but not the Circlet.

Reyo decided to seek the Circlet first, out of all the relics she read legends of, because it was the most documented item. Further, she feels that if she can recover the Circlet, its power could help her either ascertain the location of other relics, or possibly bestow some kind of knowledge/memory on the wearer. Finally, she fears that if she was able to find any information about it, so too could those more willing to twist the ancient Elven magics to nefarious purpose.

Archetype Information:

Crunchwise: She loses trapfinding, but gains:

Follow Up (Ex): An investigator can roll twice on any Diplomacy check made to gather information, and receives the information for both results. This takes the same amount of time as one check. If the lesser of the two checks reveals false information, the rogue is aware of it. False information is not revealed in this way if the people she questioned do not know it to be false.

Fluffwise: Years of training with lorekeepers and rangers has taught her there are a multitude of ways to assess and obtain information. She took what she could from both groups of individuals and worked on her own to develop stealthier abilities. She knows that she has time to get information, and is OK taking it. She fosters relationships in major towns, but goes by a different assumed name in each. She keeps a set of journals in her own shorthand that details what she's found out so far.

In terms of general treasure hunting, while her primary focus is on the Circlet, she's not above taking on minor jobs at the request of those she's developed friendships with or other Elven enclaves she may come across. She recognizes that she needs a way to actively fund her search, and figures that generalized treasure recovery is a good way to do it. She figures that there's enough Elven spread through the land that most recovery missions of any real size will likely bring her into contact with something interesting from her past.

Cade is ready to go as far as I can tell

@Bimpnottin Daergel: Reyo sounds great!

@Cade Goodbarrel: Ok, but if chosen there will be some backstory to put you in one spot with the group (so you won't be starting in Sandpoint). Also, I do not see the general treasure hunter in you much, I see a halfling looking for his family heirlooms. You need a drop of the bottle labeled "gritty, shovel totting, and/or crazy eyed".

@Bimpnottin Daergel: Reyo goes in, I'll PM you the backstory and then you can directly post in the gameplay thread.

@Cade Goodbarrel: It's a good concept, but just doesn't feel right to me for the current game. Sorry, maybe next time.

If someone else wants to try, you can post submissions for the next 24 hours, the sooner the better.

Liberty's Edge

Thanks! I'll finish up getting all her crunch into an alias later this morning and get to posting!

My day did not go as planned. I will try to get something by tonight
