Initially, I wanted four pcs, but after playing pbp where players come and go, I'm going to take five and maybe even six. I will post more in gameplay today. Get to know each other here. I prefer speaking to be bold , thoughts to be italics , questions or out of character talk to be ooc .

I will use maps when I can. I will be posting around 10p.m. to 12 a.m. central time or gmt-6. Some posts will be from my phone. I have DMed games in my youth, but pathfinder is a bit more complicated than AD&D, so bear with me. I will make some mistakes for sure. I have a general plot and story arc lined out with npcs already created, so it is not really a sandbox adventure.

Also, we have a tiefling and a half-orc. Those characters may face distrust and or discrimination in some places. I like the racial diversity, you two will just have to figure out a way to disguise when in town.
Verrin Kord |
Sweet. Don't sweat the small stuff on judging. We aren't going to bite your head off. Much. As for racial diversity, I am sure dark hooded figures will help instill trust. :)
Verrin eyes the other "guards" for the caravan disinterestedly from beneath the shade of his hood. Maybe these will survive, maybe they won't. A few look like they may be competent, you never know.

I think my equipment is mostly okay. I took the liberty of getting myself a light warhorse, for travel purposes. Looking forward to our intro post in the gameplay thread! ^^

I will post in gameplay this evening. Just a quick note. Races outside of human and human-like will be regarded with skepticism and sometimes intolerance, because within the Wastes, there are many mutant tribes. I appreciate your boldness and initiative, but until the PCs have proven themselves, they need to be creative in their interactions with human colonies.

I was wondering how everyone felt about loot and magic items. We never really bought magic items back in the day playing d and d. This seems to be the norm now. I would like to determine what objects we find. I'm open to requests as we go, but I don't think that there should be a plethora of magical items. I am okay with crafting though because it takes time and effort.
Khartelosch |
After I posted it occurred to me how ipen it was to interpretation. I meant the marksman assigned to watch me! :-)
I find it much more interesting to find items, provided they are planted with utility in mind. I don't mund buying sungle-use stuff.

There seems to be a lot of posting while I am sleeping. I can post mainly during daylight hours of Eastern Standard time. If this is going to be an issue I can drop game.
No. Just the best time for me to post. It is not an issue at all. Once a day is pretty good. The captain is a very impatient man. I'm sure after we get going the pace will slow down. I want to get it set so th hat it maintains everyone's interest.

I am confused as to why we got so close that the scorpions could attack us in the first place. Once we saw the battle, I would have suggested that we back off and the let the orcs and scoripions fight on their own and then take out whoever is left.
Could we not have heard the fighting before we got so close?
Verrin Kord |
Would it be okay if Thaanne just rolled all our initiative checks together and gave us the breakdown: Heroes A, Monsters A, Heroes B, etc.?
Whichever is easier. I am newish to pbp so I am happy to go with whatever people suggest.

Might as well move this discussion here.
Hmm. Well, I looked at your sheet a little, Ibrah, and it doesn't seem like Khartelosch would fit the bill of someone who destroys or desecrates nature or art just for the fun of it. There could of course be a misunderstanding, or that I have information about said quarry that would help you, etc.
Yeah, I thought the same.
--
Let's just say I tracked some (Orc?) raiders into this area.
--
Is the Scorpion so Stealthy that the PCs can't possibly spot him earlier with a Perception check?
--
Is this combat a good time to jump in? I think GM rolling Initiative is a great idea.

On both sides of the road, are groups of large rocks. The scorpion caught you by surprise.

I have never played pbp where GM rolled initiative because it is always an important feat that players take and their stats make outcomes very individual. I would prefer if you roll and I just put out the order and recap actions for this reason.

Now is a great time to jump in. Roll initiative please.
Khartelosch |
That's okay with me.
I only brought it up because I found that it happens that players roll their initiative and post actions and then someone else's initiative is higher and they post their action and the earlier posters want to change their actions based on the later posters' actions. However, it usually sorts itself out by the second round. :-)

You would still use the players' individual stats. We all have our initiative bonus in our stat-line. Instead of each of us typing and posting [ dice=So-and-so's initiative ]1d20 + So-and-so's initiative-bonus[ /dice ] individually, where we would have to wait for everyone to post before we know the order of combat, it would be you typing that for each of us in a single post.
Ibrah Narishtahir |
Example
Crimson Tress's Initiative: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Verrin Kord's Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Khartelosch's Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Ibrah's Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Lillyanna Calleigh's Initiative: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Silvash Auerial's Initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Armistad's Initiative: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
Silas Warner's Initiative: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
So the order would be:
Armistad
Lillyanna
Silvash
Verrin
Tress
Ibrah
Silas
Khartelosch
Thaane |
Example
** spoiler omitted **
So the order would be:
Armistad
Lillyanna
Silvash
Verrin
Tress
Ibrah
Silas
Khartelosch
This certainly would be cleaner, I cannot do it from my phone though, so if we decide to do it this way, I can only do it late at night.
Verrin Kord |
Players, please reply with how you would like initiative to be determined. GM rolled or player rolled?
I Suspect GM rolled would save a lot of confusion.
Lillyanna Calleigh |
GM roll makes the combat go faster. Otherwise you can end up wasting a whole day of waiting for people to roll initiative before you can even get to people stating their actions. If you try to solve that by having people post an action with their initiative roll, then you tend have too many people wanting to go back and change heir actions based on what went on ahead of them in the round.
