Nymarchemadias |
Nymarchemadias listens to the tale and nods looking honestly sympathetic. His forehead furrows briefly at the mention that the girl might seek to harm the Paracount knowing that such an action would cause mayhem aboard the ship. Lost in his own thoughts, Nymarchemadias almost does not realize that Grunyar has started to go below deck to continue their search. Nodding to the halfling in thanks Nym proceeds to follow Grunyar.
GM Molly |
Nicholas "Nick" Hasel |
"Ssh, easy there Sofia, easy there... I'll be here with you, I promise. Nicks gives Sofia another ration and sits on the floor, back against a barrel.
"I will find you a new home, but I need your help Sofia. I'm looking for a halfling that may be hiding here, or at least passed around here. She shouldn't be in the boat and the Paracount asked us to find her. I know that the Paracount is a bit scary, but he is a good man and he will help me protect you. Have you seen her?"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
"If you haven't, don't worry... I'll be here no matter what. He smiles.
Nicholas "Nick" Hasel |
"You... you are that halfling the Paracount said..."
Nick stands up and draws his bow both are move actions
"I mean no harm to you, but I'll take none from you either. I won't allow you that... please stop and reconsider all this madness."
And just there I swift action smite evil... but I'm not sure if she is evil or not. Let's just see
GM Molly |
"I'll not have you ruining my plans just yet. Not before Calistria has given me revenge on that devil lover!" She sneers and attempts to strike out at you, but quickly redirects her movement. It becomes clear that she never meant to actually hit you, rather, she was attempting to throw you off balance.
Feint: 1d20 ⇒ 16
You are going to be denied your Dexterity bonus against her next attack. I'm not sure if you've noticed, but I only very rarely let you see the actual modifiers to things.
Nicholas "Nick" Hasel |
I'll start to spoiler my parts when I am alone so the gameplay chat doesn't becomw a long wall of text
Nick steps 5 feet back fearing a follow up attack and fires two arrows swiftly, aiming to incapacitate the halfling and interrogate her later.
Point Blank Rapid Shot: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 101d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
"G#~@%#mit! I don't know what the heck you are talking about!"
GM Molly |
Grunyar, Nym, can you give me a Perception check? It's been about two minutes.
Attack: 1d20 ⇒ 19
Critical Confirmation: 1d20 ⇒ 14 ... okay, this is awkward.
Critical hit damage: 2d3 + 2 + 1d6 ⇒ (3, 3) + 2 + (1) = 9
"Drop your weapon and get on your stomach!" she demands, her eyes narrowing.
Nicholas "Nick" Hasel |
Ouch
Nick stumbles back another five feet...
"I... I won't surrender... this is my new family, you fiend!
And with that final encouragement he lets loose two arrows, more likely a last whisper than a real try to fight back.
Point Blank Rapid Shot: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 251d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
PRAISE BE ERASTIL FOR HE GUIDES MY HAND
Confirmation: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 101d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 63d8 + 9 ⇒ (6, 3, 7) + 9 = 25
GM Molly |
She begins chanting what sounds like some arcane language before finally blowing ln the reeds.
Sonic damage: 1d8 ⇒ 5 Fortitude save to avoid being stunned... but I don't think that would be your main concern.
Just then, a blast of sound strikes you and everything around you, causing some of the more fragile boxes to shatter while you are absolutely battered by the sonic wave.
As you begin falling unconscious, you can hear the halfling say. "I'm not going to kill you, but I can't have you in my way.
1d20 ⇒ 10
And with that, you can feel her bandaging your stomach wound. You are stable, but unconscious at this point.
Nym, Grunyar, you hear a huge blast coming from downstairs. If you pick up the pace from this point you can make it in a 5 rounds.
GM Molly |
Arlan, you clearly hear the explosion coming from downstairs. You and anyone you inform can make it downstairs in a minute or two if you hurry.
What you see comes as a shock. Nick is unconscious on the ground with a pool of blood forming. Strangely it looks like the deep gash on his stomach has been bandaged. Even more strangely is that there seems to be another bit of blood further away than he is with two holes in the wood.
Anyone else who comes downstairs at this point note the same scene which Nym and Grunyar do.
Arlan Sandor |
"Did you hear that?!" Arlan exclaims suddenly. "Sounds like trouble, we should go check it out." he says as he makes for the door.
I don't think Arlan would have his combat gear on, can I snag a weapon on the way down? If the count has a rack in his quarters Arlan will ask if he may borrow something to defend himself with
Azrielan |
"What sound?" Azrielan responds inquisitively before watching Arlan stumble around for a weapon.
"Alright, fine. Paracount, I will go investigate whatever this man is yelling about, and report back."
She then takes off out the door, following Arlan and the skeletal thing towards whatever may come her way.
Nymarchemadias |
Nymarchemadias surveys the situation in the storage room and instincts take over. He immediately steps into the nearest cover and shadows treading softly as he opens his senses searching for the unseen assailant.
Stealth: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (1) + 11 = 12
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
He tries to cautiously approach the unconscious paladin and when reaching him begins channeling healing energy into him.
Cast Cure Light Wounds on Nick
Grunyar Goldenbelt |
"Nick!"
Grunyar runs to Nick, laying a hand on his wounds and hurriedly uttering a brief prayer.
"Abadar, please heal these man's wounds and bring him new vitality so that he may continue on his journey."
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
He'll then get his shield ready and look for who did this.
perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
Get that you have potions, but Grunyar wouldn't know that and you'll probably need those later.
Nicholas "Nick" Hasel |
That 4 hp worth of heal are more than wnough!
"Grunyar... you seadog, I'm glad to see you. Did you catch her? Did you catch the halfling?"
Nicks gets a potion out of his bag and drinks it.
Potion: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
"I had to defend myself... disn't want to hurt her. Where is she? Wait. WHERE IS MY BOW?
Nicks looks around for her weapon.
"And my arrows too... Damned backstabbing child..."
Grunyar Goldenbelt |
"Wait, there was a halfling down here? We don't have her. She took you out? Is that what caused the bang?" Grunyar grabs his hammer, and looks around the area.
Looking for general features, specifically exits that she might use to escape. If you want me to use the same perception for both the halfling and this, that's fine but I'll roll a different one for now because rolling is fun.
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
Nicholas "Nick" Hasel |
"It's been a lot of time since the loud bang? Because I plunged two arrows right through her chest, she couldn't have fled easily... not without a trail of blood at least and carrying my bow, which is bigger than her!"
Nicks draws his trusty longsword and shield and looks for blood trails and places where she could have hide.
I will roll perception too, but if I recall correctly Grunyar have already spotted something strange when he arrived:
Even more strangely is that there seems to be another bit of blood further away than he is with two holes in the wood.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Grunyar Goldenbelt |
It's been barely a minute, and most halfings are as slow as I am, She can't have gone far. There!"
Sorry, but I'm having a bit of difficulty visualizing what that is. Are the holes big, as in someone could go through them, or smaller? (or bigger?) Are they in the floor, or in the wall, as in an exit someone could go through? Where exactly are they in relation to the blood? Is the blood a trail or just a few spots? Sorry if I am being too inquisitive (Ha-ha)
GM Molly |
Ah, terribly sorry about that. Let's see, to answer your questions in order: Those are arrow holes. I didn't specify because technically you didn't know they were arrows, but seeing as Nick's weapons are gone, it is fair to assume. They are located further away from Nick than the pool of blood. As for the blood itself, it seems to be a pool that does not lead anywhere.
Arlan, Dominucs is glad to loan you one of his silver longswords in his weapon rack. He stays behind with Akkad so as to avoid aggravating his leg pains.
Nym, you blend into the shadows, but don't seem to spot anyone hiding about. Grunyar, you do not seem to spot anyone either, although you do spot that a few of the panels in the wall seem to be ridged slightly, almost as if you could pry them open and move them. Though you know that magic was used in the area, you do not seem to be able to spot any auras by the time you cast your detect magic spell other than the potions which Nick is carrying on his person.
NickYou, yourself do not see anything new, but do remember the footprints on the ground might give someone a clue as to where she might have gone... if someone can decipher the now multiple sets which lie on the dust."[/b]
As you were searching and healing Nick, everyone else would have had the time to make it to the scene.
Nicholas "Nick" Hasel |
"Now that we gathered around let's keep it brief and fast so she can't escape."
Nick tries to remember which footprints were the first ones and what are the new ones I guess some kind of Wis or Int check. Just tell me
"I've found the halfling and fought her in self defense. She knocked me out with some kind of magic but I plunged two arrows deep in her. She can't escape now. There were already footprints here but if we can track the new ones we'll catch her.
Arlan Sandor |
As Arlan steps through the door, his eyes widen. "What in the nine hells happened here?" he asks, surveying the pool of blood and shattered crates around the room.
Listening intently as Nick explains everything, he moves purposefully toward the pool of blood. Crouching down, his eyes dart toward the many footprints marked in the dusty floor.
Survival to track the halfling: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Nick beat me to the post by 37 seconds! If no one else attempts to track I'll take ten for a total of 17 if able
Nicholas "Nick" Hasel |
"You are right. Azrielan, as a Hellknight trainee you can feel the chaos in other people's hearts, can you? I tried to bring the judgement of Old Deadeye upon her, but she seemed impervious. I don't think that evil motivates her... but she talked about Calistria. Maybe you can try and sense her if we can't track her."
Grunyar Goldenbelt |
Assuming there are no other exits..."Aye, I believe she wants to kill the Paracount. If Nick put some arrows in her then she likely won't try immediately but there's a chance... There's a few strange panels in the wall there... perhaps a secret door? I don't detect any magic, if Azrielan detects no choas either, then I'd say it's unlikely she's still here, but perhaps we should put a guard." Grunyar walks to the planks and cautiously inspects them a bit more.
perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
If he finds nothing of note he'll attempt to pry them open.
