From behind a tree, Raziel adds to his companion's arguments - "We have no quarrel with you, nor we desire one. As my friend has pointed out, we paid for those horses, and know nothing of how they were acquired"
Raziel mirrors their actions, and moves out of hiding also - "Let us talk then. We are travellers aiding a friend - someone dear to him has been beset upon and kidnapped. I am being as straightforward with you as I can" - Raziel nods.
Killian spits like he has a bad taste in his mouth.
"Cultists of Hecate. Their methods are deplorable. We would remove them ourselves but they have cleverly based themselves in that vale which makes them untouchable by us due to territorial agreements we must abide by. Since you aim to take up arms against these heathens, you may pass through my forest without paying tribute. But you must free the horses. On this point I must remain firm."
"I do not think that will be a problem, and I thank you for allowing us safe passage through your lands" - Raziel bows.
"Things got a little hectic back there, and with the arrows and screams flying, I did not fully understand the reasons for the quarrel - would you mind explaining further why the animosity, and the hostility towards those that would use these horses as a means of transportation?" - he questions further, the curious nature of the tiefling taking over.
"My men spotted you creeping up on them and got the drop on you. We told you to drop your weapons, not reach for them and cast spells. What other response could you possibly have expected? As for the horses, my people once rode them bareback on the plains. They belong to no one and should be free."
Ghae continues to watch the vine as it retracts. Not really paying attention to the conversation as much as the others.
What type of creature is that vine? I have always had great interest in the flora of the land.
As she says this, she reaches down and scratches Trangles which has skittered up nest to her. You think you can hear purring, but are unsure as it is a plant and not a cat.

1200xp! WOOT! I'm accounting Raziel at 3400xp...
A.l..m...o....s.....t there.
"Ok, I guess I can understand that" - Raziel agrees - "We will let the horses go free, and we will keep the saddles and whatnot stashed around here somewhere - maybe we can retrieve them when we return. We will have some explanation to do once we return to Zelkor's Ferry, but I guess that one does not concern you. The town is aware that you do not wish the animals to be captured from their ancestral lands, and used as riding horses, I assume?"
Should we all have leveled then? I started with 690, should that have been 690, or 2690. I may have misunderstood. I figured we got the level 2 starting as a bonus, but needed to get the exp for level 1 and level 2 before moving up a level.
I have us at 3225 (or 5225 if we started with 2000 base).
"Funny they only saw fit to take my bow... I guess my reputation has preceded me." Q says, telling a painful joke to supplement his quite painful encounter.
"I admire your mens' skill." he says to Killian. "Had they been any closer, an arrow surely would have made it to my heart. Tell me, where did they learn such precision?" as he talks, he begins ripping off strips from his cloak and wrapping his wounds.
Killian isn't very forthcoming, he's bottled up pretty tight, but Ghae can roll Knowledge History or Religion. Maybe the tattoos or the story rings a bell.
Killian turns his attention to Eli's question to dodhe Ghaelja's.
"There is an ogress, a witch, who has a claim on that territory. Hecate is sacred to witches, so I can't touch those scum. They have kidnapped others. I hope you remove that stain from the Forest of Hope."
Knowledge(nature): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16 <-- only skill I have, druids are not really a knowledge class except nature
--> any inkling about the tattoos?
Ghae knows the druidic symbols but not the history of why someone would display nature magic without belonging to the druidic order and speaking the tongue.
Ghae knows the druidic symbols but not the history of why someone would display nature magic without belonging to the druidic order and speaking the tongue.
Would Raziel know why? His roll would give him a 22 on an History check?
Raziel is aware of a schism that occurred centuries ago when the offspring of a bloodline that had yielded many arch-druids began to manifest innate magical powers connected to the natural world despite having rejected the druidic order and it's precepts.
It's possible that Killian traces his ancestry to these bloodlines.
"I think I may know what it means Ghaelja, but we should discuss this later, and press on to our immediate objective, agreed?" - the tiefling pipes in.
Q looks a little dejected that they won't share their bow secrets with him. "I'll continue covering from behind... Hopefully next time I'll be ready when the forest decides to steal Gladys away from me." He fingers his bow lovingly and walks to the rear of the party, ready to continue.
"Good to know what we're walking into; thank you for the heads up. Anybody planning on backing out, do it sooner rather than later. Everybody else, lets get a move on. We're killing time here."
