Wow, thanks for the kind words!
I'm looking forward to Celif reaching the point that she considers herself one with the group. I think it'll be a great growth experience as her world view widens and she realizes "tending the flock" means more than just staffing the local temple!

Gezzo Wrathforge |

Yeah, Celif. Your doing great. We're still working through growing pains with this group. Which isn't a terrible thing, imo. It could lead to pretty interesting plot twists, we will see I suppose. (Maybe a little out of combat banter to explain the PCs motives would help further that along...just an idea, I guess.)
On a personal note, I've been slammed the last couple of weeks. My wife is expecting and due around mid-December. That means I'm in crunch time to get the nursery ready. But, I'm getting caught up and things are starting to slow down (well, at least for another month or two) and you should see a return of the steady flow of caustic remarks from Gezzo.

Cеlif |

Careful, folks; keep that up and you'll be doing your dungeon crawls without Celif 'cuz her head won't fit through the doorways anymore!
But: Thank you. Sincerely.
Gezzo, I agree on growing pains being a good thing. Random people recruited in a pub and instantly working perfectly as a team makes sense for expediency, but how often does it really work like that? You're going to have personalities; there are unknown issues and hidden motives.
According to the conversion guide, the cultures of the Shadowlands tend to clash, and I've seen evidence of that being played out: snarky comments, sometimes brusque or dismissive attitudes... you all are managing to keep that air of tension alive, yet at a subtle enough level to let the group work as a team.
For whatever reason, Celif's original creator cast her as Èuraith, essentially the caste of noble warrior elves. But instead of one to be feared and respected, her height was used to turn her into a gangly klutz, and she's become a quiet, withdrawn, insecure bookworm because of it. She needs time to bond with and learn to trust the team, but also to build faith in her own abilities.
It's the sort of stuff we're discussing here that, in my view, breathes life into FRP. Otherwise it's all just melee and such; we might as well be playing straight wargames or Risk!
(And no, Celif hasn't stumbled lately, but we've been dealing with serious stuff since I came on board. More appropriate times will come...)
Speaking of "personal notes" (congratulations, Gezzo!): For a couple of months starting next week, I'll be working at a remote location with zero cell signal. I can connect to paizo.com via wifi through the local LAN to read, but the firewall won't let me post. So I'll mostly only be contributing during evenings and weekends.

The growing pains and people willing to put enough into their characters to have personalities, issues and hidden motives is part of what is making this group so much fun.

Story Master, if you'll set Celif's alarm an hour earlier than everyone else's, she'll need time to commune/mediate and prepare her spells. :o)
I normally have my PCs do such things crossing dawn, but if we're going to get a solid eight it'll be much later, which is fine. Just give a nudge when the morning's arrived and I'll get her on her way, or if you want to narrate her into it so you can get everyone else up and going that's fine too; barring a temple, she'd quietly slip away and find some solitude outside.
Thanks!

Cеlif |

There. Maybe if I entertain the dungeonmaster well enough he'll forego any potential overnight attacks. ;o)

Cеlif |

He points the spoon at you and asks...
Was that directed at Celif?

Cеlif |

(Imowen, you have way more guts than me, trying to sneak into the room like that. Kudos!)
... I just mostly want it for flavor.
Use your best judgment - as long the mishaps don't control the outcome of actions, then I think just about anything is fair game.
For what it's worth, I like what you're doing with Flug. I didn't even realize you were running a Haunted Oracle at first, because your interpretation is so far off the norm. To my mind, that's a good thing. So many see the curse as a class-required necessary evil and do the bog-standard gusts of wind and moving objects thing, taking the long retrieval time and out-of-reach drops as simple penalties. The way you're approaching it breathes some flavor into the character and gives Flug his own unique personality.
In another game, I'm running a Haunted Oracle under a very gracious GM who's pretty much given me carte blanche. Since, as a youngster, that PC caused the (accidental) death of a child, instead of random spirits harassing her she's stuck with her own very personal ghost: the spirit of the child whose life she took. They've reached an uneasy truce and while they can't "communicate "per se, her ghost tends to get agitated and kick up winds and "throw things" when he feels she's putting them in danger or, for example, when she's not being truthful. She's in turn forced to keep him calm in such situations (or try, at least). It's not used to any game advantage -- in fact it can be a bit of a hindrance -- but it adds to the richness of the character.
AND it makes her distinct from another Haunted Oracle in the SAME party -- a Wind Sylph who plays her hauntedness differently still. Can you imagine if we were both doing the generic gusts-of-wind-and-things-moving-on-their-own shtick? But as it is, even if we run into a "standard" Haunted Oracle on the road somewhere, we'll still have three distinct personalities and presentations.
No point to this post other than saying I appreciate the different spin you've put on Flug.

Finally found a few minutes to dig up a usable clip.
Sorry friend Gezzo, but when this happened...
Gezzo holds a hand up and shakes it, pointing to the door.
E...e...evil...g..g...great evil. P..P..Promise nothing!
... the only thing I could see in my head was... this! :o)

Storymaster, can I use Command to attempt to make a target show themselves? Its not specifically in the list of actions for Command, but it is very similar.
No, for three reasons:
The spell is quite specific as to the Commands that can be given, and they all involve some sort of movement.
You have to target a living creature to cast the spell - however, the creature you want to target is not visible to you. Therefore, you have no target to cast upon.
Command is a compulsion Enchantment spell - one of the WORST illegal kind of spell an arcanist could possibly cast in the eyes of the Brotherhood of Magus. While doing so in this remote location would probably have no consequence (unless someone informs on you), that is something to keep in mind for future reference. See page 21 of the Conversion Guide, Banned Spells.

Gezzo Wrathforge |

Okay, just figured I would ask if breaking concentration would be enough of a movement for Command. I was under the impression that since it was a language based spell, then the target would only need to hear the command.
Anyway, concerning the Brotherhood, Gezzo is an inquisitor. He knows it has been deemed against the law, but he also knows there are times he must work beyond the scope of the laws for the greater good. He knows there is great evil present and that the laws of nature are being broken. This would be enough for him to take any action to stop this from continuing.
It should be interesting to see if the arcanists in the Brotherhood question Gezzo's methods. He is well aware that that particular spell is banned by the brotherhood, but it has been granted by his deity via his domain spells...making it divine in origin at least for him.

HP: 37 + 6 + 3 - 22 - 12 = 12
Thorgrim, what's the source of those extra 6 HP? I've never run a barbarian before and only rarely a healer, so I'm not up to speed on such things. I presumed it was a rage effect, but the only one that seems close is Lesser Celestial Totem which -- if I'm reading it right -- would be +3, not +6. (Maybe I'm overlooking the CON boost as part of it?)
I ask mostly because it may be vital to know how long they last if they're temporary. Not that any of us want to cut things that close, but...

Nastrod isn't posting much either. If someone is not able to continue, it would be nice if they say something, instead of leaving us wondering for days. Encounters are scaled according to the Average Party Level. If someone doesn't participate when combat is occurring, it is a major problem.
Alternatively, if you know you are going to be away from a keyboard for a few days, let us know so that we can continue to play your character in your absence. You can even designate someone for that purpose (as GM I am not comfortable playing your character).
For the foreseeable future, if a player doesn't post within 24 hours during an encounter, we will not wait - the combat will continue. I don't think it is too much to ask that players check in on the game at least once per day. I spend time outside of the game prepping maps, npc stats, looking up rules, etc. My time is only well spent if you are involved in the story.
And, as a last thought - those of you who are heartily playing with much appreciated gusto, you have a surprise waiting for you at the conclusion of this adventure.

Fener |

Story Master, Everything you said is fair and keeps the game enjoyable for everyone.
On that note, I will be traveling out of the country starting Early Wednesday but back Sunday night. I should be able to post nightly, but I wont have FB access,( maps) though so may need a bit of help with positioning. If you don't see my post within 24hrs and I am holding things up, please move me as needed. Thats plan B since I should be able to get posts out.

Cеlif |

And on that note, thanks again to everyone for welcoming me with open arms and letting me be a part of this grand tale. What a great group!

Fener methodically searches the battle area and the remains of the Ogres and Beastmen. The items he finds are as follows (please inform the group what you are taking and/or sharing, and what you are leaving behind):
Ogre Possessions
Hide Armor, Large (2) – (incredibly filthy and smelly)
Greatclub, Large (2)
Cloth Sack containing two dead frogs, and a half-eaten fish that smells aged.
Leather Pouch with 14 gp, 23 sp and 57 cp
Backpack, Large, containing medium-sized possessions that were probably taken from swamp residents – masterwork dagger; masterwork backpack; one quiver with 16 arrows; leather pouch with 8 +1 sling bullets; two unidentified potions
Beastmen
(All equipment is size medium)
5 wooden clubs
5 light wooden shields
5 leather armor
3 shortbows
23 arrows
19 gp, 46 sp, 92 cp
5 daggers

Cеlif |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Wiggly wolf rolls and aged fish. It's like we're in some bizarro sushi restaurant! :oP

Fener |

Fener will take the following to share with the group later:
Masterwork dagger
Masterwork Backpack
Quiver with 16 arrows
Leather pouch with +1 sling bullets
Two Unidentified potions.
33 gp 69 sp and 57 cp,
3 shortbows
23 arrows
5 daggers.
I will make a post to bring it into the story.

Cеlif |

... he turns his attention to the odd glowing glass orbs, waves his hand in front of them and carefully taps one with his sword.
"How many Svarogs does it take to break a lightbulb?"

Cеlif |

Yeah, well just try to remember that enthusiasm during the times I'm getting on your nerves. 'Cuz it will happen.
And, thank you! (Though in all honesty, the skills thing is less a matter of knowing what to use than shotgunning a problem with everything I can think of that might be even remotely applicable...)

Cеlif |

Being prone under all these busy bodies is unsettling to say the least . . .
Hey you all, PLEASE BE CAREFUL where you step!!! I am injured enough already!!! I shout as I squirm around attempting to avoid being trampled . . .
I know that was directed primarily at klutzy trip-over-her-own-feet Celif!
Suck it up Imowen, this is what you get for lying down on the job! ;o)
