I think the system we were using is quite fine, but then I'm a character with bad initiative.. I think Gezzo's grouped method would be a good balance, but it has a definite downside potential. The time difference in international parties can be quite large. Like a European and a Australian, if either has to wait for the other a single round can jump from roughly 24 hours to 48. But that is an extreme case. I still wouldn't mind trying it.

Thanks Gezzo, Fener, and Argyros for the feedback on my comment about initiative rolls. I guess I had not considered some of those things, and I know there is still much I have yet to learn about everything in these games. That is one of the main reasons I play, to learn more and expand my mind. However, I tend to be somewhat slow and am not a master of the obvious.

No problem, Imowen. I'm no expert either and I agree with you, I learn the most by playing and discussion with other players.
My primary PFS PC that I use during table top sessions is a rogue. If you want to talk about play styles or have any questions concerning the class, shoot me a PM, I would be glad to compare notes.

I have been reading up on Take 10 and have realized that I have been sorely under-using this in my PF sessions (mostly because of ignorance). So, I plan to start using it a lot more, even though I don't think the rule is really logical in every situation (and I really like to roll dice).
But, since this is more of a third-party game, I wanted to pass it by the GM before I lay down Take 10s a lot. Story Master, what say you concerning the Take 10 rule and its applicability in the Shadowlands world?

Generally, same as the Pathfinder guidelines:
When a character or creature is not in immediate danger or distracted, it may choose to take 10 on some rolls (specifically, skill checks). Instead of rolling 1d20 for the check, calculate the result as if the die had rolled a 10. For many routine tasks, taking 10 makes them automatically successful. Distractions or threats (such as combat) make it impossible to take 10.
In most cases, taking 10 is purely a safety measure—you know (or expect) that an average roll will succeed but fear that a poor roll might fail, so you elect to settle for the average roll (a 10). Taking 10 is especially useful in situations where a particularly high roll wouldn't help.

There's a 'How to format your text' thing beneath the 'Submit Post' part that explains everything.
For dice rolls, though, you do it as [d1ce]1d20 + 3d6 - 1[/dice] where 1d20 is 1 dice of D20 and similarly 3d6 is 3 dice of D6, and so on. You can add and subtract numbers for modifiers, like - 1 there. There's also an optional title/explanation for what the dice roll is for done doing: [d1ce=Something] for the first part.
So it'll be:
Something: 1d20 + 3d6 - 1 ⇒ (1) + (6, 1, 6) - 1 = 13
(just replace the 1 with i for d1ce)

I'm replying to Celif in public, so that you all know my philosophy about using skills. In my humble opinion, many times players don't use their skills unless prompted to by the GM. I think that is a passive, rather than active way to play your character.
For example, when seeing an item for the first time a character might ask the GM, "What is this?", instead of rolling a Knowledge skill (appraise, nature, arcana, or whatever might be appropriate) to get the answer.
Fortunately, we don't seem to have that pattern with this group. I usually don't prompt people to use skills - you each have a character who is proficient in some skills applicable to either his or her class, traits, or feats, etc. Skills are an inherent strength of your character's background, physiology and training, and would be used in reality as a second nature with little thought. Use any skill at any time you think it would be appropriate.

There are many premade kits available for purchase (they are not free). One for a cleric can be found --> here. And, I don't think there is such a thing as being too active.

Since you are a late arrival, and you would have acquired the items before you set out on your journey, go ahead and equip yourself with the kit. You can deduct the 16gp later on after some wealth is found. You already have some of the items (holy symbol).

Update:
XP Earned:
Roleplaying 100
Defeating Wolves 390
Ad Hoc: Rescuing Cayden 250
Ad Hoc: Arriving at Temple 100
TOTAL 840 XP
We are on the fast track, Level 2 advancement is 1,300 XP.
Items Acquired So Far
Potion of Cure Light Wounds (2) 100 gp
Red Gem (Unidentified)
Medium Wagon 75gp
Heavy Horse 200 gp
Riding Saddle 10 gp
Bit and Bridle 2 gp
Wagon Harness 2 gp
Magic Amulet of Septimus (Unique)
Wand of CLW (8 Charges) 120 gp
Heads Up: Above is a list of the items the group has acquired so far in your travels. Fundamentally, it is my task to tell you when you acquire things, but it is the group's task to keep track of them - who has the items (either by individual or in a "group fund"), and when they leave either the group (spending money or gems when selling and purchasing items) or disappearing from your individual inventory (drinking a potion, using up a wand, etc.). So, at some point, you folks will need to figure out a system to do so (an Excel spreadsheet works well). The master "loot list" can be maintained in the FB files area so that everyone can access it. As you can see, we have been traveling for only 2 days, and already the list is growing rapidly. You might be amazed at how quickly this can get out of hand unless you take steps now to keep track of your possessions.
You may notice that there is an item listed as "unidentified." Some things may not be categorized clearly unless you use a skill to examine them (Appraise, in this instance), Spellcraft for a magic item, or using such spells as Detect Magic or Identify.
I leave it up to you to figure this out. I will upload a spreadsheet to the FB files area shortly, that I use as a player in a tabletop game I participate in (I am the treasure tracker in that game). It might help you as a starting point for this endeavor.

Couple of questions:
How are we handling the announcement of items that are found or received? Is it just assumed the party knows when an item is acquired? Or is it up to the PC to let everyone know what they have found?
I can go either way, but since this has been a fairly heavy RP campaign so far, allowing the PCs to tell what they find (or not tell the party) might be fun. We are all non-evil alignments, so we wouldn't try to be hording for our own pockets. But, allowing characters to RP how they would distribute items might be interesting.
Also, you forgot to add the 500 gold and the two potions of Neutralize Poison Gezzo received at the beginning.
As we close in on lvl 2, are there any restrictions with character progression due to Shadowland rules or does it continue to the follow PF rule set?
Fener
I am ok with roleplaying but we may want to discuss at times here on how we will distribute items and make sure everyone is in agreement and then we can roll play it out in game. sometimes it wont be needed but we should keep the option open.
Case in point. I think the healing potions should go to someone without healing abilities already. A lot of us can cure if they take the spells. Barbarian, Rogue or Magus should hold onto them. my 2 centavos.
That actually brings me to a second subject, since we have quite a few who can have heal spells, it might be wise to have only one or two with that roll on a regular basis. I can heal if need be but in the wild I am better off not taking healing as I have better spells that can be more helpful.
I will not normally take heal spells. I am more set up as a combat/controller Druid. if we get really banged up i can always pull those spells after a nights rest.

Well I'm going to be bringing bless on a regular bases, kind of going for buffer/healer. I was gonna ask what compenets do I need for my spells? Cause my book wasn't too discriptive on the subject. Or at least I missed it. Ill look when I get off work but if someone could give me an idea id appreciate it

A cleric should never prepare a cure spell in advance. Clerics have the power to spontaneously cast a cure spell of the same level.
Spontaneous Casting
A good cleric (or a neutral cleric of a good deity) can channel stored spell energy into healing spells that she did not prepare ahead of time. The cleric can “lose” any prepared spell that is not an orison or domain spell in order to cast any cure spell of the same spell level or lower (a cure spell is any spell with “cure” in its name).
Also, the amulet can be used to cast the Bless spell as if you cast it yourself:
EFFECT
Range 50 ft.
Area The caster and all allies within a 50-ft. burst, centered on the caster
Duration 1 min./level
Saving Throw none; Spell Resistance yes (harmless)
DESCRIPTION
Bless fills your allies with courage. Each ally gains a +1 morale bonus on attack rolls and on saving throws against fear effects.
Bless counters and dispels bane.
The amulet casts the spell at Caster Level 1, so the effect lasts for 1 minute.

Dang, you guys have been active. Flug can work as a secondary healer. He's more of a social character but works as a support/debuffer in battle (though he doesn't have those spells yet) and will probably attack in combat most of the time.
Flug Managarm
Oh, and I notice that the 500 gold and the two potions of Neutralize Poison Gezzo received hasn't been put in the document yet. I've taken the initiative and added it in. I wasn't sure about the gp since it belongs to Gezzo but I've put it in so we don't forget about it for now.

Story Master, any input on my last questions?
I am starting to flesh out my idea for what I'm going to do at lvl 2 and don't want get too deep, if its not going to fit with campaign.
Great treasure list, Celif!
If we are going with the RP option of letting other PCs know when we receive an item, then maybe we can have a column that indicates if the status of the item with the party. It might help out later on when the list gets long and people forget who knows what.
Argyros Amyntas
Argyros is pretty ambivalent about treasure found. If he sees something he really wants, he'll speak up. He'd prefer no to load himself down carrying a ton of stuff though.
As for long term planning: how do you run item creation? I may or may not take the crafting feat for wonderous items eventually.
Do you allow spell research? If it is an available option I may come up with a few ideas eventually.

Hi Everyone,
I will be moving on 8/8 but should be back up and running on 8/12.
I may have a chance to log in between but plan that i will not. Story Master, please run my character if the need arises. Also, please feed Rudy as needed and keep him tanked up on Rumboozle.
