It continues to swing It's hammer down on the thug.

Basic attack (1d20+14=32, 1d8+10=17)

Fabes

Spoiler:
As noted, I'm traveling this weekend, please don't hold things for me -- this was just chance.

I am also away this weekend. :D Will no doubt reconvene on Sunday night GMT!

I'll be out Sunday so I'll try and catch up come Monday!

Hello? (hello,... hello,...) Hm, Guess Monday it is! ;)

Yes, sorry. Had stuff to deal with. Will try to get back on track.

It hits. TC1 hits Rowan. TC2 misses Rowan. TC3 misses It. 12 damage to Rowan

The battle turns into a slog in the mud, as the thugs are slowly overcome.

Map unchanged. Akahale's turn.

male Dragonborn Warlock 10 (Dark pact)

Eldritch Blast (Ref) v Red 4 (1d20 9=21, 1d10 7=9, 1d8=1)

Move to H11. Concealment gained.

Akahale sploshes unhappily through the mud and aims a half-hearted blast of dark energy at cultist 4.

"My rod is not operating reliably," he informs Grafile, sotto voce.

I think you mean No. 3 as No. 4 is dead. But you hit, in any case.

Akahale's half-hearted blast is enough; the cultist is looking crazed but very close to death.

>>>>MAP<<<<

Grafire, then Mystic Cultists.

M Dragonborn Warlord / LVL 8

Akahale - when I play my warlock tiefling, for the concealment part I would move my 3 squares and role a stealth check. That way you gain total concealment and allow the thugs to take a counter check just in case you fail they will still be able to see you. Unless of course Fabes plays it differently. :D

M Dragonborn Warlord / LVL 8

All of this mud has worn on the Dragonborn. Grafire digs deep in to his resolve and finds a renewed energy as he focuses on Bahamut.

Warlord strike on Thug 3:
1d20+13=31
Damage - 2d10+9=24

-Hit: Battle Axe [2d10] + 5 Strength modifier damage. Until the end of your next turn, all of your allies gain a +2 bonus to damage rolls against the target.
-Inspiring Presence: The bonus to damage rolls equals 1 + 3 Charisma modifier. Total power bonus to damage +4

With a mighty hew, Grafire's axe bites deep and the thug dies noisily.

TC3 is dead.

male Dragonborn Warlock 10 (Dark pact)

Darkfire aura rises to 2

Fabes - do you have any thoughts on Grafire's Stealth suggestion? Would it be a minor or a standard action if used (and allowed)?

Too tired to research properly but my gut and a cursory look in the PHB says 'no'. I do say 'no' an awful lot, I feel.

I'm also too tired to research properly, but Stealth was heavily revamped in PHB2 - that's the place to look.

The Stealth issue

Spoiler:

Copied direct from the Compendium.

Stealth: At the end of a move action.
Opposed Check: Stealth vs. passive Perception. If multiple enemies are present, your Stealth check is opposed by each enemy’s passive Perception check. If you move more than 2 squares during the move action, you take a –5 penalty to the Stealth check. If you run, the penalty is –10.

Becoming Hidden: You can make a Stealth check against an enemy only if you have superior cover or total concealment against the enemy or if you’re outside the enemy’s line of sight. Outside combat, the DM can allow you to make a Stealth check against a distracted enemy, even if you don’t have superior cover or total concealment and aren’t outside the enemy’s line of sight. The distracted enemy might be focused on something in a different direction, allowing you to sneak up.
Success: You are hidden, which means you are silent and invisible to the enemy.
Failure: You can try again at the end of another move action.
Remaining Hidden: You remain hidden as long as you meet these requirements.

Keep Out of Sight: If you no longer have any cover or concealment against an enemy, you don’t remain hidden from that enemy. You don’t need superior cover, total concealment, or to stay outside line of sight, but you do need some degree of cover or concealment to remain hidden. You can’t use another creature as cover to remain hidden.

Keep Quiet: If you speak louder than a whisper or otherwise draw attention to yourself, you don’t remain hidden from any enemy that can hear you.

Keep Still: If you move more than 2 squares during an action, you must make a new Stealth check with a –5 penalty. If you run, the penalty is –10. If any enemy’s passive Perception check beats your check result, you don’t remain hidden from that enemy.

Don’t Attack: If you attack, you don’t remain hidden.

Not Remaining Hidden: If you take an action that causes you not to remain hidden, you retain the benefits of being hidden until you resolve the action. You can’t become hidden again as part of that same action.

Enemy Activity: An enemy can try to find you on its turn. If an enemy makes an active Perception check and beats your Stealth check result (don’t make a new check), you don’t remain hidden from that enemy. Also, if an enemy tries to enter your space, you don’t remain hidden from that enemy.

In a nutshell, I don't think he can become hidden based on this. He can't try to become hidden unless he's got superior cover or total concealment. Mind you, if he ever ends up lurking among trees, he will give it a try.

The -2 to ranged attacks helps a lot, particularly with the cloak of distortion which makes him -2 to ranged beyond 5 squares anyway. They don't stack, but even so, anyone attempting to blast the paranoid one off the planet is usually doing so at a penalty.

Very neatly solved. It makes sense really, as there's no way the Warlock can have total concealment in his shadows. "Hey, where's that Warlock? Oh yeah, in that mass of shadows over there."

Mystic 1 moves. OA from Seram misses. Dagon's Fang misses Seram. Dagon's Fang misses Grafire.

Dark power flows across the battlefield to little effect as the mystics try to use their magic against our heroes.

>>>>MAP<<<<

Seram and Manny are up.

male Dragonborn Warlock 10 (Dark pact)

Ahem. Not our map guv.

Akahale Gilbrid wrote:

Definately not our map. Post to come later than.

Not our map, but I think I found ours! To the left of the big map is a scroller with 296of his maps posted. I think ours is the one that says #1, 'you are at the beginning'. If that is correct,...

MAnny slogs forward through the sticky morass that their battlefield has become. He nears IT and Grafire, and asks,

"HOw's it goin'? Nice day for a trudge through the sludge, isn't it?" He asks cheerfully. He lowers his staff towards the blue-robed caster.

"YOU, on the other hand, are seriously getting on my nerves!" He declares happily in that same cheerful voice, with the same happy grin, as a barrage of thunder pours forth from his staff. The noise and force batter at the blue-robed caster, trying to literally pick him up and slam him down again,...

Many moves to E15, should put Caster 2 within 10 spaces if I'm looking at the right map. Fire off encounter power Spectral Ram, att vs Fort, dmg is force.

To hit (Vs FORT): 1d20+11=23, Dmg: 2d10+7=18

Male Human Cleric of Bahamut 8th

Rowan cuts loose another priest's shield on Red#2

Priest's shield: Roll 1d20+12: 14+12 for total of 26 to hit Red#2 if it does he does 1d10+5 damage: 7+5 for 12pts of damage and Rowan's AC is at +1 until the start of his next turn

"Heh, not worth my time anyway", he says as the mystic moves away.

"Let's test your freinds worth"

Move to O6; Howling Strike on 2, 1d20+12=30; Damage 2d4+1d6+11=19

Fixed Map

Sorry for delay, folks.

Manny, Seram and Rowan all hit their respective targets. It's turn

Mayhem is the order of the day as the heroes show what they are made of, Rowan and Seram concentrating on one of the thugs whilst Manny smashes into one of the mystics with his magical might.

N Warforged Fighter

Not clear on the map situation, so I'm assuming It is still next to a cultist and can attempt a pounding

Basic attack vs AC (1d20+14=23, 1d8+10=13)

Sorry, meant to say you were unaffected by movement changes. You have hit.

TC3 is dead. TC1 misses Rowan. TC2 crits Rowan. Damage to Rowan - 20HP

It smashes another cultist into the churning mud. The man lies quite dead.

>>>>MAP<<<<

Akahale, old chap?

male Dragonborn Warlock 10 (Dark pact)

Squelching doggedly onwards, Akahale squints into the rain and sets his sights on the pair of thugs assailing Seram and Rowan. Crisply cursing the nearest foe, he follows up with a blast of dark energy.

Move to K14, gain concealment.
Curse Red 1

Curse, Blast Red 1 (Ref) (1d20 9=29, 1d10 7=12, 1d8=5).
Extra crit damage on Red 1 (2d10=20)

Crit. 45hp damage to Red 1 (17 from the blast, 8 from the curse, 20 from the vicious rod bonus. Never seen that before. Go that dragonborn.

Akahale appears and blows a hole in the cultist, who drops to the ground smoking.

TC1 dead. Exactly taken to 0. Wow.

male Dragonborn Warlock 10 (Dark pact)

Akahale allows himself as slight, smug smile as the thug topples. "Most satisfactory. Do continue Mr Zal."

Darkspiral aura is at 3

Male Human Cleric of Bahamut 8th

"Anyone heard thunder before that lightning bolt hit?" Rowan asks casually as Red 1 hits the deck.
"Me neither," he adds pointedly to his opponents.

male Dragonborn Warlock 10 (Dark pact)

"There would be no sound prior to transmission of the energy field as the source is in fact drawn from the soundless vacuum of the dark spaces between the planes. As we saw, on arrival, the blast delivers a noise, although this is often difficult to discern through the screams of the victim."

Akahale delivers a short lecture on the properties of eldritch power.

The other cultists look on aghast and agog.

>>>>MAP<<<<

Grafire's turn.

male Dragonborn Warlock 10 (Dark pact)

Akahale is at K14 or he couldn't have hit TC1.

Double moved Grafire. Mystic 1 misses Seram with Dagon's Fang. Mystic 2 hits It (23 vs Ref) and Manny (22 vs Ref) with Storm of the Ocean Lord. It and Manny take 15 cold damage each and are immobilised until the end of the cultist's next turn.

>>>>MAP<<<<

Manny and his mechanical manservant feel a chill blast freeze them to the ground.

Seram and Manny's turn.

Seram swings his blade, but the mud and momentum of the blade almost knock the big man off his feet.

Rolled a 3 for a 16 total :(

Male Human Cleric of Bahamut 8th

On Rowan's turn

Rowan unleashes another priest's shield on his foe whilst calling upon his faith to heal himself before his injuries overwhelm him

Priest shield on Red 2 roll 1d20+12: 7+12 for total of 19 and uses minor action for healing word on himself allowing him to spend a healing surge and regain 1d6+3 hp (rolled a 2 for 5 extra hp on top of healing surge) and if the blow hit it does 1d10+5 damage or 5+5 for 10pts of damage

Thanks I keep forgetting that part! Only rolled a 1 mind you for the extra 1d but it does add up!

male Dragonborn Warlock 10 (Dark pact)

You just know if you hadn't rolled it the next crit you take would have dropped you to exactly 0. Waste not, want not.

Akahale squelches menacingly in the shadow of the trees, wrapped in arcane shadow and plotting more carnage.

M Dragonborn Warlord / LVL 8

Thanks for moving me Fabes. Been super busy and when I had a chance to log on it said the forums were down. Tomorrow looks busy as well but I should have a chance to check in.

Ate my friggin post, no time to re-type. SHORT version, manny makes bad puns, fires ray of frost at caster #2, and he is currently at 15 HP, I should maybe take a recovery REAL soon?!?

Ray/frost, vs Fort,...
1d20+11=25, 1d6+8=9

Seram misses, Manny hits. Rowan misses. MAP is unchanged. It's turn.

Mandrake the Mad retaliates with his own icy attack against the spellcaster.

N Warforged Fighter

It, as unperturbed by immobilization as by anything else, pivots It's shoulderbow around to aim at the cultist Grafire is attacking, but misses.

The remaining thug whales on Rowan but is parried by the troublesome priest.

No map change. Akahale's turn.

male Dragonborn Warlock 10 (Dark pact)

Eyes whirling with dark energy, Akahale's rod mis-fires as he attempts to follow up his destructive path by flattening Red 2. Snuffling irritably, he moves into the trees, wrapping himself in shadow as he does so.

Move to N12 - concealment gained. Partial cover as well or do they not stack?
Curse/Blast v T2(Ref) (1d20 9=15, 1d10 7=16, 1d8=6)

I believe they do, as cover is different to concealment.

Fabes DM wrote:

I'm pretty confident that's right

M Dragonborn Warlord / LVL 8

So in this case with Akahale, how would the shadow step come into play? It says the warlock takes 3 steps and stealth right? So does it realy just negate the minuses if he moves his full movement? Isn't standard stealth up to 2 or 3 squares and then you take a minus?
I am really cusrious on what you guys think about this because I want to play it right with my warlock on paper pencil games.
