The shrine of Datrys rose malevolently into the night sky, carved from a single column of brilliant white stone, the face of madness looked out upon the world of men; its mouth was shaped in a bloodcurdling screech, rows of jagged fangs were draped along the gaping jaws leading to the drawn cheeks and its blood red eyes were fixed to the heavens and shone with abiding hatred. The ground immediately around the shrine was devoid of life, the soil blackened and charred, trees encircled the lifeless earth, branches stunted in their growth as they reached towards the corruption that surrounded the shrine. A rustle of motion and ten figures stepped into the clearing; all wore blackened leather that clung tightly to their skin making them almost invisible in the darkness, the lead figure habitually rubbed a black gloved hand over tightly bound hair, repulsion sat on his charcoaled face as he waved his company forward. I vow that the shadows of Ansa will not be cowed by madness. Grimacing at the soft rasp of metal as he drew his long knives and stalking like a tiger hunting its prey he followed his companions towards the maw that breathed the stench of insanity. He was just another shadow in the night.

They never returned from that perilous journey. Your task if you choose to accept it is to finish their mission and if possible rescue them in the process.

This will be set in a different world to Pathfinder with different Gods and cultures. I am checking for interest and if I get enough I would like to start a PbP. I am looking for 5 or 6 players either new or experienced.

If I get enough interest I will post character creation rules and I will be posting more about the different races and the world in the info tab shortly.

I will warn that this is my First PbP to GM so it may be slow moving at first.

Sovereign Court

dotting for interest. I would like to play either a fighter or cleric. I am not new to pbp, but not a veteran

I do not know how to roll.
But if I play I will be a kobold Warrior 1st level.
Can I play with purchase(20p).

I'm interested as well, probably looking to play an Oracle, but I'm flexible. I have about a year and a half of experience playing pathfinder pbp - albeit low level - and a couple more years in other pbp stuff, for whatever that's worth.

Sczarni

Hairy thanks for the invite. You know I'm down. Sounds really fun would love to play this table top one day lol. :-)

so far it is going to be a Kobold Warrior, cleric Humane, and a Oracle Humane. say if not so.

So war it will cum in the form of my name. Tarkish The Half-lizardfolk!

Liberty's Edge

I am interested. I would like to be a Tiefling Transmuter Wizard/Eldritch Knight with a focus on polymorph spells. (If tiefling is not an approved race, I will of course dip one level of fighter to qualify for EK).

The intro sounds interesting, and the campaign info so far is promising. I would like to put my hat in to play an inquisitor, or if needed, I would be willing to play a rogue to fill in the gaps that are missing.

dotting...waiting for more info

Great nice amount of interest so Il pop the creation rules up.

  • First Level
  • 20 Point Buy
  • All Core Races: Ask if you wish for others and I will decide
  • Most Classes: No Gunslinger or Psionics
  • Max HP at First
  • 150 Gold Starting
  • 2 Traits
  • Alignment: I would not want any evil characters. If there is I would like a very good reason and they must work well with the party.

Any other Info needed just ask ;)

@Neo: Tiefling should work but you will most likely be one of the only ones on Liberium

@Tarkish: Kobold will not be a playable race sorry :( Feel free to come up with something else tho :)

@Varrian: Hey :P

Everyone: I will be putting more info on the races shortly but there is a little in the Gameplay info tab atm.

Most Classes: No Gunslinger or Psionics?

Was that supposed to be banned classes?

What is the goal of the party?

Yeah they are banned.

The party will initially be hired by 'The Voice' to investigate the disappearance of a group of 'Assassins' known as the Shadows.

The Voice is the ruling religious group in Liberium and they work very closely with the Shadows to maintain authority.

Does this help give a general idea of what will be going on?

I present Groden Honorbound, Orc two handed fighter and former veteran of the human armies to overtake Liberium from the Elves and Dwarves

Sczarni

Cool I will PM you by tomorrow with a couple questions, thanks Hairy!

Looks good Groden I just put up a little information about the races let me know if this will mesh nicely with the character you had in mind.

No problem Varrian questions are cool ;)

I have put up a bit more fluff in the info section which gives some ideas about what the races are like. Next job is to give a few details on the city you will start in and also the religions available.

Let me know if there are any questions and I may dread saying this but also let me know if you have any critical thoughts about all of this.

Works perfectly for me as Groden is very honorable and wise and I was hoping to play something different then the blood crazy orc.

Going to have a look at Orc traits, and I may switch a few things around. I will let you know of any changes

Good good I was hoping to try and paint Orcs in a different light so it will be nice to have the change.

Yeah no problem.

For those interested in creating a divine character, do you have a some basic info on religions? I think areas of interest, domains, and alignments would be most important. However, I am thinking of playing a half-elf rogue. I'll come with a back story and stats later as I am at work.

Liberty's Edge

Eh, I am going to withdraw interest. I'm having trouble making this work, so I'd rather save the concept for a tabletop game. Thanks anyway, and good luck to you guys!

@Michael: Yeah I am busy sorting that out now I am trying to work out how to do it without revealing to much about the campaign. I will have a think over the next few hours and see what I can do without giving away everything :)

No problem Neo theres a lot going on so don't worry bout it. Good luck getting your character sorted.

Edit: @Michael it might be easier if you wanted to play a Divine type to choose your Domains then I will PM you the 'God' that best matches those Domains.

Dunno how well that would work but it might be an Idea.

I'm still kind of rough, but here's where I am right now. I don't really have my combat stats worked out yet because I haven't gone through equipment. Still, I think it'll give enough basic feeling for a yea/neigh on the concept. I figured I'd post the first draft this way before creating a permanent alias for it. Let me know if any revisions would be nice, or if I'm going in the wrong direction, and I'll keep checking back here as I finish things up today/tonight.

This is getting better, and easier for me to think of a way to fit in.

Are all of the deities well known, or are they secretive(meaning you would need knowledge religion to get info), and you might not even know which one is empowering you?

Everyone Characters are looking good so far. Il give them a yea feeling ;)

To answer Swagger most of the deities are very secret I would say some may know and worship but a very select few. It would also work nice if your character didn't truly know how they got their power.

Religion wise I will have something up in the morning got a Buffy marathon tonight :D

Yay for oracle being a divine caster without needing to know a divinity, I guess. I've got a pretty good handle on things I think - expecting to have my sheet/alias done when I get a bit of time tonight.

Buffy Marathon sounds like fun, enjoy it

Ok. I am just trying to get a feeling as to how the setting works.

How would one know what not to do to upset their deity and lose their powers?<--I know you are busy so I won't look for an answer until tomorrow. :)

Looking interesting.

How bad is the persecution of half-elves? Would they be playable? Would The Voice even try to hire them?

I'm thinking a rogue with stealth/disguise might help alleviate some of the problems but trying to think of a reason for him not to be an evil sod out for revenge against all his bullies and those like them is a little more difficult.

As an aside, do all the races keep the same traits as in PF or are there some differences due to the setting?

Can i look like a my avatar.

changed traits, took Brute and Veteran to up my crits and make preception a class skill

So, I'm not really optimizing as I make this character - no dump stats, only a rough plan for progression, etc. Is that going to be okay? I'm using the Oracle optimization guide on these forums to make sure I don't do anything stupid, but not really treating it as gospel. Do you see yourself as a tough-ish GM, or this as a tough campaign? I'm willing to soften a bit of flavor/rp for more optimization if you think it wise...

How do you roll the dice?

['dice]1d20+2[/dice] for example, remove the ' from it. Also see below for more formatting options where it says How to format your text.

Sczarni

I'm a teacher now? Nice avatar, lol.

I will have my character by wed. Thanks hairy!

Dotting for interest.

Are there paladins in this world? How are they viewed? How do they interact with the various races? The slavery of elves? etc? I'm not interested in actually playing a paladin, but it could effect the back story I have in mind.

Well difficulty wise I would say that I will not pull punches but I wouldn't make it impossible. Personally though I prefer role playing over optimisation so if you think something will fit well with your character go for it.

Swagger: Well if you don't know where your power is coming from then you wouldn't know how to not lose that power ;) I will say this Gods will play a deeper role in the campaign than pathfinder probably uses which is why I am been a bit tight lipped. Hmm the Gods can and most likely will attempt to influence characters at some point.

Persecution of Half elves is pretty bad but in my eyes this doesn't necessarily make someone evil. The Voice would be willing to hire them, after all they work closely with assassins so someone with a rougish skill set could be very useful for them.

Trait wise I am going to say keep the same as pathfinder for simplicity sake.

I am hoping to give enough to be interesting and allow you all to create good characters so if something is not clear please don't hesitate to question it. So keep the questions coming :D

on a scale of 1 to 5 how cud you rate the city in safety, crime, and war,

and how wud the resadnts rispond to a lizard man thay are like human but look dith rint and are more grumpy. sary i hav bad grmmar.

I believe that you should try to balance optimization and RP of your character to flow with each other. Not only should you have a behavior and rich backstory for your character, but you should also make sure you enjoy playing the character as well. A fighter that has a several page backstory that you spent weeks writting but can't hit anything to save his life is going to agrivate you. Unless you play PFS, then make as cheesy of an optimized character as you can.

Take a look at my character for example, sure he has a 19 str, but he also has a decent Wisdom, because the character himself is quite Wise. If I was optimizing I would have dumped wis and put it into dex.

if we work for the Voice thin cant we take it over sum day by force or good work.

Here is Averoon. The stat block and background are in the profile. Let me know if you have questions.

Well Paladin wise is a bit more tricky due to their alignment constriction. How about this:

Not all Humans are hell bent on the slavery of Elves. Made up of several influential members there is a party that actively works to ban slavery and free the Elves. Most of the members still worship The Silent but there is one who is devout. He has no name but Paladin of Ansa.

Would anything like that be useful at all to your back story it's an idea I just had to be honest so may be lacking slightly. Feel free to suggest any changes.

Mr. Swagger wrote:

I am looking at a ranger(urban), and an inquisitor(Infiltrator).

The basic idea is someone who hunts down criminals, similar to a bounty hunter. I don't know what the alignment is, but he is not good by D&D standards.

Now that I think about it, he reminds me of Batman, but not the version that goes out of his way to let people live. At the same time I have no intention to kill people because it is convenient either.

He is somewhere between the anti-hero and the anti-villian.

I think you might have to poll me and then choose the alignment. :)

Almost sounds like lawful evil. Lawful neutral is always your judge type, but they are usually good people, but I would guess lawful evil.

Tarkish: 1 been crime ridden 5 been perfection.

I would rate the city of Ansa a 3. There are areas especially the rich and around the church/temple that are truly clean but due to the war there is a distinct lack of guards available to patrol the poorer areas where drug smuggling and thievery is rife.

Im struggling to fit the lizard folk in. I would need a very good reason for him been in the city to consider Lizard Folk

Swagger: Like the idea. As long as he is not the joker we should be alright ;)

Averoon: Looks good can't think of any questions at the minute but may have some lately.

Everyone: I haven't decided on a closing date yet but I would imagine by the weekend it would be closed.

I have put a little information on detailing a few gods and there domains but if any more information is required on that front please just ask.

I will update with more stuff when I get the chance.

I posted that to the wrong thread. Sorry about that. :)

he can be a band member of the tribe and started a now life in the city so he will not go to sum land in the north west.

i will be ending my charictor and will make a now one soon.

hello

Reporting for interest!

Am new, very new, to Pathfinder (actual playing) and the site, not pnp RPG itself however. What is the highest "tech" level on the world? I assume it is below gunpowder due to the class restriction.

Don't worry about been new I am not exactly a veteran :P

Tech wise I would probably say close to creating a form of gunpowder just not quite there yet.
