Beseth wasn't exactly thrilled about the idea of swimming in the brackish pool, and having to move a severed arm and swim beneath it seemed even more out of the question, there had to be another option.

As you look closely, you can see that the arm - disturbingly fresh-looking - is holding onto a handle of some kind. You can also see a number of giant, bulbous eggs dotting its side - and they, too, seem rather fresh.

...those of giant water bugs, which are rather territorial and will probably need to be dealt with before you can open the hatch. Unfortunately, it's hard to see through the water, but disturbing it enough would probably get them to show.

Hadran crouches down at the edge of the water and starts to splash and dirupt the stagnet pool.


Two white insects erupted out of the water as Hadran disturbed it and, though silent, immediately turned to face him.

"Don't worry, I'll protect him!" Midfoviing offered, moving between your guide(?) and the bugs.

Pulling out her new spear along with her spiked shield, Beseth moves up to attack the insect which Mak did not.

AC is 24 for the turn, due to only having 1 shield out.


Catching foes flat-footed was always nice, and Mak's pair of attacks bit deeply into the beast. Beseth's lunge was likewise accurate, striking into the second bug's side (though, admittedly, it was a shallower blow). Wasting no time at all, the two insects engaged their attackers.

Hadran stands and pulls his sword from his back and takes a swing at the closest bug.

Remember my system. Everything before the enemies go for the first time is Round 1. Everything after is Round 2, even if it's your first time acting. Otherwise, especially when we're resolving multiple rounds at once, it gets confusing.

Moving back, Beseth will drop her spear before casting a spell (Lead Blades), and then finally pull out her smaller shield.


The two insects hit the ground as Mak and Hadran finished them off. (You can keep that spell, Beseth.)

With the threat gone, you could almost certainly open the hatch that the arm was attached to - though what else might happen from there was anybody's guess.

"This water has probably pooled here because that hatch is closed. I'm going to tie myself off. Thane, you and Beseth hold onto the rope and I will open the hatch. I just don't want to be washed down as the water rushes in."

Hadran will take the rope from the climbers kit and tie himself off. He will then open the hatch.


Hadran's protection turned out to be a wise idea indeed, as the rush of flowing water knocked him off his feet as it poured down the open hatch. That was almost less noticeable than what happened to your guide, however - as the torrent of water started, he let out a happy cry and dove straight into the torrent, allowing himself to be sucked down the hole. It took a few minutes for all of the water to drain away and for the Lord of Valor to get back onto his feet - when he did, a five-foot opening was revealed, complete with handholds leading down into the necropolis below.

Makallun'abad raises an eyebrow, but is glad to see Hadran's foresight protected him from harm. "I suppose all we can do is forge onward."

Hadran stands up and creates water over himself and lets some of it flow in his mouth as he spits it back out.

"Some fo the stagnes stew went in my mouth I fear. I also could use a proper bath now but this will do. That is a strange fellow. It is like we opened the door to his play room. Be on guard I fear this is not the last we will see him. If you are ready follow me."

Hadran starts the climb down taking cation checking the rungs before he puts his full weight on them.

Beseth will follow, though she does pinch her nose to stave off the stench of both Hadran and the left over smell of the putrid waters.

"I just hope we don't run into someone even crazier then him."


As you reach the bottom of the latter, the path ahead becomes rapidly clearer. This tunnel is six feet wide, and features arched ceilings rising up above. Water slowly pools through cracks in the walls and collects on the floor, where it flows downward. The entire place is unlit - darkvision helps, low-light not so much. Around the corner, you can see a door; while the steps also continue to go down, they quickly hit a dead end.

Where is the water? Is it pooled at the bottom? If it drained out through a secret door at the bottom I would think it would leave some hints.

Hadran takes a look around wondering where all the water and the strange man got off too.

It definitely drained away - and there's evidence that a lot of the draining happened down the hallway. To the sides, you can see some washed-around rocks.

"Well Thane the water went somewhere, but lets go check that door before we search down here further."

Hadran heads back to the door and opens it.


Carved pillars in the corners of this chamber hold aloft a double-vaulted ceiling of cracked frescos. On either side of the chamber, a single step leads up into a deeply recessed area that forms an arched room of its own.

As you entered, though, a quiet babbling noise could be heard from within the chamber as two undead creatures slowly turned to face you.

Given that Hadran had unlocked the door, the two undead within could only approach him to attack - and did so, their ghostly forms floating forward as they reached out with soul-freezing hands.

The two creatures are Allips - dread creatures that are the remains of those who committed suicide and got lost between the mortal world and the afterlife. Beseth's spear passed harmlessly through the one she'd targeted, and it didn't even seem to notice that anything had happened.

Hadran's enchanted strike was rather more successful, and the creature let out a howl as part of its body was burned away. Both of the Allips focused their attention on him and reached out, clearly seeking to wipe his mind before he could do much more to them.

The creature came quite close to hurting him, but Hadran was able to muster up just enough strength to keep its prying hands at bay.

If Beseth's right behind Hadran, I don't believe he can take a step backwards.

Hadran continues to attack the one he hit unable to move with Beseth pressing the attack. The god of valor relies on his mental fortitude and takes an offensive stance.

Faced with the inability to hit the creature with her spear, Beseth drops it and pulls backwards while taking out her second shield and filling the room with her rage.

"If my spear won't hit, maybe my shield will, but I'll need to be closer." She says as she tells Hadran her intentions.

Standard start Inspire Rage, Move move back to where we don't have to fight in the doorway, AC is unchanged for Beseth, and she shares guarded stance. Temp HP: 3

Makallun'abad senses slowly return to him, his eyes unclouding as he realizes his companions are being attacked. "What happened?" he calls, but he is clearly still too out-of-sorts to assist.

Hadran's attack struck the injured fiend, and it recoiled slightly. A moment later, the two of them moved away - one into the floor and the other into the ceiling, merging into the stone. That made them all but impossible to hit at the moment, but it was doubtful they'd stay there for long.

Shaking his head, the Earthen Defender tries to get a better grasp of his surroundings. Balling his hands into fists, he prepares for the incorporeal creatures to reemerge.

Holding both of her shields, Beseth will also step into the room, continuing her performance and readying an action to attack with her shield if one of the creatures were to confront her.

The two undead erupted from the ground and ceiling next to Beseth, away from Hadran and Mak - and she promptly smacked one of them in the face with her shield, further damaging the one that had been struck by Hadran earlier. The two babbling spirits reached out with their ghostly arms a moment later, clearly trying to pry into her mind and weaken her will.

Makallun'abad moves in to strike their foes, fists flying. He channels a spell, hoping the magical attack will reach the creature.

Makallun'abad moves near the allips (move action) and casts Frostbite defensively, before reaching out to touch one of the creatures (standard action).

The weakened allip vanished into wisps of smoke as Hadran struck out at it - the other ducked away from Beseth's attack and outright ignored Mak's, seeing completely immune to attempts to cause nonlethal damage. Well, it was an incorporeal undead... and it reached out towards Mak this time, apparently wondering if the Dwarf's mind would be weaker.

Melee Touch (Mak): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10

This would be somewhat easier if it was actually capable of hitting things. Meanwhile, Midfoviing had joined you from the back, and was watching the melee with interest.

Sorry, didn't realize until I was on the road that I forgot to change my stuff and make a concentration check, which I spectacularly failed. I am beginning to think it would have been better if I just f%$~ing stayed fascinated this fight. :/
