Dargrim Rumblecask |

Dargrim's deep frown is well concealed by his unkempt hirsute, but the deep gravel of his voice conveys his mood plainly enough as he calls out, "Hark yer spores ye husks o' th'dead! Ah've a peace t'offer yens. . ." Lullaby is in his hands in an instant, short strides carrying him into the left flank of infested corpses. The head of his enormous hammer whirls through the air with a hiss towards the nearest of the creatures.

DM Locke |

Actions for Tranche #3:
Dorn's crossbow bolt nails one of the corpses right in the chest. It remains standing and advancing, however.
Dargrim's hammer ruptures the head of the walking corpses before him; the body quivers, before dropping to the ground.
Actions for tranche #4:
The plants sits there, being a plant.
Tranche #5 is up next, Ulciscor, Kevkas and Gyro.

Kevkas the Battle Oracle |

Kevkas takes a step back and swings his huge sword at the creature on his right. "I wouldn't eat any of these things even if I did eat vegetables."
Takes a 5' step to avoid AoO from corpse C, power attack on corpse E.
Greatsword PA: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Damage: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 2) + 6 = 10

Ulciscor |

I panicked. I'm sorry.
This was far more amusing to me than it probably should have been. :-)
Ulciscor stepped up beside Lioslan, touching the elf on one shoulder, and infusing him with the blessing of the Doombringer's guidance. "As His righteous wrath falls like thunder, may thy strikes fall like lightning upon the heads of the deserving."
5' step to C22 (map updated), cast Guidance on Lioslan (+1 competence bonus on a single attack roll, saving throw, or skill check in the next minute).

DM Locke |

Actions for tranche #5:
Kevkas swings hard but misses the oncoming corpse.
Ulciscor casts guidance on Lioslan.
Gyro charges at shambling corpse F, attempting to finish it off:
Attack: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 5 + 2 = 9
Damage: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
The gnome misses! His charge will also mean he's easier to hot next round (-2 to AC).
Round one is over! Round two, up next - tranche #1, Innocent and Lioslan.

Lioslan Shaelara |

Lioslan will move to A17 and shoot at corpse A.
C.longbow, Guidance, PBS: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
dmg, PBS: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Lioslan felt Ulciscor's touch, but he was already moving as the man's words rolled out over the scene of the fight. Perhaps he had moved too soon for Hoar to pinpoint who it was that was meant to have his blessing - at least, his next arrow whizzed past the ear of the corpse he had aimed at.
It would be tasteless for a gold elf to spout curses better suited to human tongues, but Lioslan thought one. Hard.

Innocent of Yûlash |

The blade flashes across the former mine worker's abdomen in a slash clearly intended to disembowel if it hits it's mark. Innocent does not wait to find out and withdraws a pace back from the combat, eyes intent on his combatants to measure their speed and attentiveness.

Actions for tranche #1:
Lioslan's attack misses, and he has moved to A17 on the map.
Innocent misses, then takes a 5 foot step back, hoping to take advantage of the shambling corpses' slow reactions. (Moved to D19 as D15 is out of range).
Tranche #2 - the shambling corpses, up next!
Shambling corpse A moves forward to D16, so close Dargrim can smell the death and decay.
Shambling Corpse C takes a five foot step forward and lashes out at Innocent:
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
It misses, though it did show surprising quickness!
Shambling Corpse D takes a five foot step forward and strikes at Dargrim:
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24 crit? 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9 negative!
Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
The foul thing slashes Dargrim, though the wound is not serious!
Shambling Corpse E strikes at Kevkas:
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
A solid hit! Kevkas bears it well, though, and flinches not an inch.
Shambling Corpse F lays into Gyro:
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Another hit! A vicious blow from the back of the shambler's hand lashes across Gyro's face. That will leave a mark!
Tranche #3 - Dorn and Dargrim - are up next!

Dorn Kindleheart |

"Bloody hell!"
Dorn strafes right, takes aim and fires at a different corpse.
Move to F25. Fire at Corpse E.
crossbow: 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (17) + 3 - 4 = 16
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 5
Hmm. Another hit maybe? Not bad considering I don't even have precise shot.

Dargrim Rumblecask |

Dargrim growls through clenched teeth and twirls his earthbreaker around for another pass at the next infested corpse. The weapon continues its destructive dirge, continuing to hiss through the air with each frenzied swing.

Actions for Tranche #3:
Dorn perforates one of the oncoming corpses with his crossbow, a good shot, though not enough to fell the rotting abomination.
Dargrim blasts one of the walking dead, hard enough to lift it off it's feet before it lands hard on the ground, unmoving.
Dargrim is going to have his own little fort of corpses, if he keeps this up!
Actions for Tranche #4:
You might be seeing things, but you're pretty sure that big, horrid looking plant just got up on stalky tendrils and moved forward five feet.

Kevkas the Battle Oracle |

Greatsword PA: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Damage: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 5) + 6 = 13
The big half-orc roars at the plant-corpse-thing that had hit him and swings his greatsword in another powerful, shearing arc.

Ulciscor |

Channel: 1d6 ⇒ 1 Oh, for Frick's sake! Apparently, Hoar still hasn't taken a liking to you Chaotic party members... *sigh*
Seeing the damage being dealt - to both sides - Ulciscor summoned the power of his God, sending a wave of healing energy across the battlefield with a timely prayer.
"Strengthen arms that support Thy cause, bring succor to those who would serve Thy will, and bring Retribution upon those who deserve such."
The wave of healing seemed to pass over the enemy, with no effect. Unfortunately, it seemed that the Doombringer still felt little affection for those Ulciscor had chosen as his companions. Still, little was not the same as none, and Dargrim and Kevkas felt the pain of their wounds lessen somewhat.
Channel, excluding the 4 living enemies within 30'. Dargrim and Kevkas regain 1hp each

DM Locke |

Actions for tranche #5:
Gyro strikes at the shambling corpse that struck him, crushing it to the ground, unmoving.
Kevkas cuts his target nearly in half, filling the air with horrible smelling, black ichor.
Ulciscor channels his gods' energy, bringing a measure of healing to Dargrim and Kevkas.
Round two is over - round three, tranche #1, up next! That's Innocent and Lioslan.

Innocent of Yûlash |

One eye watches the massive plant encroaching onto the battlefield, and Innocent calls out a warning. "Keep a tight formation! That's no ordinary plant."
As he does so, he chops at the plant-zombie's midsection with disemboweling force while sliding into a position between the zombie and Lioslan. He doesn't say anything to the archer, but for a split second, does look over his shoulder to meet the elf's eye...

Lioslan Shaelara |

Lioslan's golden eyes met Innocent's darker ones with approval. He even allowed a tiny smile to grace his lips. "You appear to have the dead ones well in hand. I'll see if I can give pause to yon eggplant."
He stalked a few steps north to clear his vantage, then took aim at the approaching pile of underbrush.
c.longbow: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
dmg: 1d8 ⇒ 8
He drew and fired in a graceful motion, all economy of action, but the results left something to be desired. His arrow lodged itself somewhere amid the greenery, but it was difficult to immediately tell if it had actually struck anything important to the plant's well-being, or merely gotten his arrow stuck in the tangle of vegetation.
Lioslan needs a rage translator. :P If he could actually hit something, we'd at least know if ranged attacks were worthwhile against the thing. Here's hoping that if it's full of spores, it wastes them where it is, not while surrounded by melee combatants.
I think Ulciscor's channeling would have reached Lioslan at his previous location 10' south? I've added a hp to his total, let me know if I should remove it again.

Ulciscor |

I hadn't realized that Lioslan was hurt, or I'd have included him in the description. Yeah, he's in range (I think I'm positioned so that the entire party would be in range of a channel - at least, that was my intent).

Dargrim Rumblecask |

Dargrim piles the bodies up as high as his head before slapping a "No Girls Allowed" sign on the window-opening, then begins his shifty-eyed vigil.

DM Locke |

Actions for tranche #1:
Innocent strikes hard at one of the shambling corpses, hard enough to disembowel the thing. It still stands, however, and gurgles and snarls at Innocent though ruined, rotting lips. BTW, I think you might have mistaken your position with Dargrim's - I had Innocent strike at the zombie in E19, and 5' stepping to C19
Lioslan's arrow strikes the plant, but lodges in thick, fleshy foliage and has no discernible effect.
Tranche #2, the shambling corpses, up next!
Corpse A lashes out at Dargrim:
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
It's clumsy blow misses the dwarven warrior!
Corpse C pursues Innocent, striking at him with its grotesque, clawed hands:
5 foot step to D19;
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
But the clumsy former miner misses!
Corpse E lashes out at Kevkas:
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
It hits! The blow, enough to kill any normal man, is enough only to knock the huge half orc to the ground, unconscious.
Kevkas is down, and at -3 HP.
Tranche #3 is up - Dorn and Dargrim!

Ulciscor |

Yeesh! I really missed the boat on this one, somehow. For some reason, I had thought only Dargrim and Kev had taken damage, but in re-reading, Dargrim, Kev, Lioslan AND Gyro had all taken damage before Ulciscor Channeled. Which means that Gyro should also add an extra hp to his total, as he was also in range of the Channel last turn. And HOLY HELL! This is not looking good for the visiting team.

Gyro Titanblade |

i suggest when u channel. Dont say who you heal. Only say who you dont. That way those who need healing on the team can just add the extra HP ;)

Dorn Kindleheart |

Dorn's eyes widen in surprise. He gulps audibly and squeezes his trigger. The shot is awkward, and the sorcerer puts more distance between himself and the deadly plant monsters.
Can't see the tags on my phone. But I'm shooting the one at F20.
Crossbow: 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (12) + 3 - 4 = 11
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 5
Dorn then moves 3 squares to the left to C25.

Dargrim Rumblecask |

At this point, Dargrim's huge hammer head is pure momentum. All the dwarf need do is maneuver its culling arc towards the onslaught of infested corpses to disperse the creatures into bits of organic and rotten matter. His hammer soars into the nearest body with another sickening crunch of bone and fiber before Dargrim wheels away to flank the yet-standing foe in front of Innocent.
"Thrice an' climbin' laddie! Hasten yer steel afore ah've killed yer share as well, huehuehue!" the dwarf bellows with mirth.

Actions for tranche #3:
Dargrim brings down yet another shambling corpse in emphatic fashion, before repositioning himself.
Dorn's crossbow bolt narrowly misses his target. He also repositions himself.
Tranche #4 - the plant - up next!
Quivering slightly, two of the plant's horrid, fleshy pods open, and humanoid figures pop out. Horribly disfigured, covered in bulbous growths, the two figures scramble to their feet, turning their unblinking stares upon your party!
Tranche #5 - Gyro and Ulciscor (and a KO'd Kevkas) are up next!

Ulciscor |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Ulciscor couldn't help but look towards the sky when Kevkas fell, and the plant-thing disgorged more enemies.
"If I'm just here to witness these people receiving Retribution for something they did, please let me know, Lord, and I'll stop wasting Your time," his complaint was soft, and (mostly) in jest. Stepping forward, he called upon the Doombringer in earnest, as he knelt and touched the fallen Kevkas on the shoulder.
"Yea, he who lieth down and letteth his enemy prevail, who striketh him once, inviteth all of his enemies to strike him, alway, and take from him all that he hath. And he who giveth unto his enemy all that he hath shall not be entrusted with more by the Lord, for he hath proven himself a poor steward."
CLW on Kevkas: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
"So get up, you big lug," he said to Kevkas, with a smile, "and teach these things what a mistake it is to oppose us. They're slow learners."
5' to D22 (map updated), drop Entropic Shield for CLW on Kevkas (that should put him at 5hp and awake).
EDIT: And for the record, that's the last time he can do CLW today, since Prot:Chaos is a Domain spell, and can't be dropped. Just an FYI :-)

Gyro takes a 5 foot step to G20, and lays into the shambling corpse with his oversized hammer:
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Damage: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
The blow caves in the back of the corpses' head, dropping it to the ground instantly.
Round three is over! Round four, tranche #1 is up next - Lioslan and Innocent!

Lioslan Shaelara |

c.longbow: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
dmg: 1d8 ⇒ 8
Lioslan frowned at the new combatants the plant had spewed forth. Whipping out another arrow, he fired it into the closest one's head. "If a charge into the maw of that heap of rutabagas is required, I can join you if needed."
Firing at Bloatycorpse A.

Dorn Kindleheart |

"If a charge into the maw of that heap of rutabagas is required, I can join you if needed."
"I'll be perfectly fine in the back, myself. Thank you."

Innocent of Yûlash |

The warrior's kohl-rimmed eyes narrow as the dwarf's jovial banter throws him off his concentration. The swing comes up short, giving the plant-zombie room to move in, but Innocent has planted himself as a square target to lock the enemy down for Rumblecask. "I stopped measuring my life by how many I've felled. But I will try to keep up."

Actions for tranche #2 - the corpses:
Shambling corpse C goes after Innocent:
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
It misses the grim warrior, however!
Bulbous corpse A advances 30' to E15.
Bulbous corpse B advances 25', right up to Dargrim, stopping in F17.
Tranche #3 is up next - Dargrim and Dorn!

Dargrim Rumblecask |

"Tha's th'spirit!" Dargrim howls with glee, Lullaby already descending in another masterful arc. The fine points of the weapon's metal head drive downward and through what had been the corpses's head only a second prior. As bits of ruin spread around the point of impact, Dargrim begins laughing hoarsely once more. "A skullbreaker!" */Korgan*
He wheels to face the advance of more foes, the din of battle all around him emboldening the dwarf's maddened fervor.

Dorn's original target was annihilated by Dargrim, so his shot goes at bulbous corpse B instead.
Dorn takes aim and sends a crossbow bolt into one of the new arrivals, driving deep into the undead things chest.
Actions for tranche #4:

Tranche #5 - Ulciscor, Gyro and Kevkas - are up next!

But his blow is ineffectual, leaving his foe unharmed.
Round five, up next! Tranche #1 - Innocent and Lioslan - are up!

Innocent of Yûlash |

Innocent dashes towards one of their new targets, scimitar brandished and lips taut with battle intensity. Even though these creatures are devoid of any motivation, with an emptiness in their eyes, the warrior returns to a familiar feeling of hatred that makes true his strike to the creature's neck - the desire to eradicate another, no matter the reason.

Rejuvenated by the will of the human's god, Lioslan hesitated. The dead did not appear to be as vulnerable to his arrows as he had hoped, but he still hadn't given the plant a clean shot to test whether or not it was more fragile than the dead men. A glance at the fight going on to his right was enough to decide for him: the others seemed to have the walking corpses well in hand. He would try to stop or injure the plant-creature before it reached them, if he could.

Innocent advances and slashes at the bulbous, walking corpses. His blow - delivered with deadly precision - lops the head right off the newly arrived foe. As the body drops to the ground, limbs still twitching, several of the large growths on the corpse burst, leaving a foul, yellowish cloud in the air around the fallen corpse.
