The refugees - at least most of them - having been stabilized, Ulciscor was about to set forth to deliver some Retribution, when he saw both Dargrim and Kevkas get hit.

Heal: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20

A quick glance told him Dargrim's wound was survivable. Kevkas', on the other hand, looked much, much worse. But there was no way Ulciscor was going to be able to get to the big warrior in time. He paused to send forth another wave of healing from his God, again excluding the wounded orcs, but also the two fallen refugees that lay at the orcs' feet.

"Doombringer, we who act in Thy service this day would fain live to see the end of it. Grant Thy blessing of health and strength to those who have need - and pray, sweeten the bringing of Thy wrath with the irony of health to those who need it not - but who will have need of it - and find it not - soon enough."

Channel: 1d6 ⇒ 1

Even in his haste to get to Kevkas, Ulciscor felt how his God begrudged healing those almost as given to the chaos of battle as those they fought. In His wisdom, he also did not heal the refugees to the point of consciousness, again. Ulciscor sighed, and moved as quickly as he could anyway. "If they die, You know You'll be stuck with just Innocent and I, an Elf, and a Gnome. I know You appreciate irony, Lord, but that seems a little too rich, even for Your designs." Ulciscor's quiet mutterings as he moved were unlikely, he knew, to change his God's opinion on the matter, but since he was planning to invoke a prayer of healing on the big half-orc as soon as he could anyway, he figured a little reasoning couldn't hurt.

Channel, excluding the two injured Orcs, and the refugees in N18 and P18. *sigh* OK, Dicebot, it was funny the first time...

Move to L20. Intent is to drop Command for CLW on Kev next round (just as an FYI). Map Updated.

Ulciscor channels energy, healing Dargrim and Kevkas for 1 hp each.

Will save vs DC 15:1d20 - 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 = 2
The Orc is unconscious, blind and stunned for 2d4 ⇒ (2, 1) = 3 rounds.

Group B is up next - Dargrim and Innocent.

The sound of Kevkas' greatsword impacting the orc's body drew Innocent's attention as Rumblecask lays low the combatant in front of him with jovial brutality. Innocent calmly steps over the fallen orc's corpse and closes ranks with the orc engaging Kevkas, driving his scimitar squarely towards the beast's abdomen...until a bit of the orc's blood greases the bottom of his boot and he slips on the ground, the lunge missing its mark.

Innocent frowns.

Seeing the vicious strike dealt to Kevkas, Dargrim decides to surge forward before the orc's bloodrage scores a fatal stroke. "On yer arse, big'n!" Dargrim cries upon approach, his earthbringer a whirlwind in the dwarf's hands as it zeroes in on the orc's head. A sickening crunch and spatter of skull and brain matter precede a maddened smile crawling across Dargrim's face.

Satisfied, Dargrim cries out again, nodding at the fallen form of the orc that stood before them, "'Ey be fightin' less when ye take their heads off, aye!?"

I have had a weird couple of days. It involves government bureaucracy, so you can imagine my frustration. But don't feel bad about DMPCing me. A color spray was my next move anyway. I'll just RP it out.

Dorn focused the magical energies that wafted from the Weave and mentally sculpted them like clay into a swirling ball of brilliant prismatic lights. He unleashed the spell with a word of power that he didn't even comprehend.

As the blinded Orc hissed in pain and frustration, Dorn laughed and wondered, not for the first time, why everyone didn't learn at least a little magic. After all, it was so very easy.

Actions for round 3 - group B:

Innocent's attack vs Orc warrior B misses!

Dargrim, however, does hit and Orc warrior B's head explodes into dozen of little Orc giblets!

Group C is up - the Orc sorcerers!

Orc sorcerer A, spying a healer amongst your group, begins chanting in it's foul language before loosing a bolt of red energy at Ulciscor:

Spellcraft DC 16:
Magic missile

Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

Orc sorcerer B, seeing himself confronted by a wall of enemies, screeches a grotesque incantation before lifting both hands, palms out, at the party. A gout of flame engulfs Kevkas, Innocent and Dargrim!

Spellcraft DC 16:

Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 2
Reflex saves vs DC 13:

Dargrim: 1d20 + 3 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 + 3 = 19 - 1 hp damage

Kevkas grins at Dargrim's deadly attack. "You are blessed by Tempus indeed!" He turns in time to avoid most of the sorcerer's gout of flame but still gets singed, drawing an unhappy growl from the huge half-orc.

@ Lioslan: since he's just an Orc and he isn't going to be getting up for a while, you can just administer an automatic coup de gras on him. On bigger or higher level creatures I might require the attack roll and all that but not on him. Unless you don't wish to we can count him as dead.

gold elf fighter 2, HPs: 20/20 - AC: 18|14|14 - For:+3 | Ref:+4 | Wil:+0 - Init:+4

Oh, I thought I couldn't coup de grace because I moved first. If I can, awesome! Lioslan avoids impaling himself on his own sword. ;P

Edit: Actually, it may be a better idea to just inflict some NL damage so that he won't wake up when Dorn's spell wears off. Then we can ask him stuff later.

Reversing his grip, Lioslan delivered a solid thump to the fallen orc's head, ensuring his future interrogation.

Actions for group D:

Lioslan ensures that Orc warrior A is out of the fight, hoping to question him later!

Gyro goes into a barbarian fury, before lashing out at Orc warrior D, hitting him flush in the chest. The Orc is stunned by the force of the blow, and is near death -though it remains standing!

Kevkas steps forward and lashes out at Orc sorcerer B, but his powerful blow misses!

Group E - the Orc archers - are up next!

Actions for group E:

Orc archer A, seeing that the big half-blood is injured, attempts to finish Kevkas off:
Attack: 1d20 + 5 - 4 ⇒ (9) + 5 - 4 = 10 (-4 due to being engaged in melee)
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
But the arrow goes wide!

Orc archer B takes a bead on Dorn, hoping to fell the spellcaster:
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
The arrow bites deep into Dorn's side!

Orc archer C takes aim at Ulciscor:
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
But Hoar will not allow his servant to be felled, not yet.

Actions for group F - the Orc warriors:

Orc warrior D tries to strike back at Gyro:
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Damage: 2d4 + 4 ⇒ (4, 3) + 4 = 11
A brutal blow, but it misses!

Round three is over - round four is next, group A - Dorn and Ulciscor!

The magical dart that had punched him in the gut left Ulciscor with eyes still watering tears that shined like miniature rainbows in the light of the burning tents, but his vision wasn't so clouded that he didn't see the arrow that had missed him. He whispered a quick prayer of thanksgiving to Hoar, and made note of both of his attackers for repayment.

To help deliver that repayment, Ulciscor hustled up behind the hulking form of Kevkas, and rested one hand on the big warrior's back, briefly.

"Though the unrighteous wield strength of arm against thee, He shall bring thee strength beyond their own, lo, even in the moment they may seem victorious, take thee heart, for He shall turn victory to ash upon the tongues of the unrighteous."

"Also," Ulciscor added in a quieter voice, "He appreciates it if you don't get His servants killed by making them chase after you through hordes of enemy orcs. Just a word of advice, my son." Though Kevkas probably couldn't see it, Ulciscor's smile was likely evident in his tone.

EDIT: DM, to remind you, Ulciscor casts CLW at +1CL, which is why it's 1d8+2, not 1d8+1 (Outlander/Missionary Trait)

Actions for group A:

Ulciscor converts one of his memorized spells into cure light wounds, which heals 6 points on Kevkas.

(DMPC)Dorn moves forward to engage Orc sorcerer B, casting color spray. No other enemies are caught in the 15' cone.

Orc sorcerer B - Will save vs DC 15: 1d20 ⇒ 8

Innocent angles his head to the left at Dorn's brilliant explosion of colors, lifting his shoulder reflexively to prevent him from staring overmuch at the display. When the spell is ended he looks at Dorn with tight lips, not of annoyance but compliment and a light nod.

He then advances with bravado into the fray, spearheading the group's advance into the orcish reserves and planting himself directly between the spellcaster and the archer, forcing one or the other to move beyond the reach of his blade if they want to safely maintain their current tactics. He brings the scimitar swinging in and upward arc towards the orcish spellcaster's chest! The swing comes too early to make impact, but he has nonetheless placed himself in a threatening position to either.

Ulciscor looked around the battlefield. Most of his companions were hurt in some way or another - Dorn looked to be in particularly poor shape - but they were managing. Watch-Captain Kundgen used to boast about a perfect stroke he landed on an ogre many years prior. The old dwarf said he struck the creature so hard and true that that it exploded into a hundred pieces all around him, cascades of innards and sanguine spraying in all directions around Kundgen without getting a drop of it on himself. Everyone figured he was full of it, but it is in this moment that Dargrim wonders if there was truth to the Watch-Captain's telling.

The big half-orc grinned a toothy smile at Ulcisor. "Tempus isn't fond of his people dying in his name, either, priest." He turns and his grin turns into a snarl. "He likes us to make our enemies die for theirs!" With that, he rushes the archer, flanking him with Innocent.

"Comforting to know the god of war shares my goal," Innocent responds, driving his scimitar into the orc as it weaves out of the way of the battle oracle's whooshing greatsword.

Actions for group B:

Dargrim's mighty blow annihilates the Orc before him, reducing what was once a monstrous humanoid to an unidentifiable, bloody mess. Even the Orcs seem impressed - archer A laughs heartily at seeing the dwarf's vicious destruction of his tribemate!

Innocent's scimitar finds it's target, cutting deep into the Orc archer!

Group C - the Orc sorcerers - up next!

Actions for group C:

Orc sorcerer A takes a 5' step back and casts his final remaining spell:

spellcraft DC 16:
Color spray

A cascade of colours bursts forth from the sorcerer's outstretched hand, engulfing a cone 15' at it's widest point in front of him. Lioslan and Innocent are caught in the area of effect!

Innocent will save vs DC 13: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Lioslan will save vs DC 13: 1d20 ⇒ 16

Both warriors resist the effects of the spell, however, and remain unfazed!

Group D is next - Lioslan, Gyro and Kevkas!

Having managed to ignore the kaleidoscope patterns of the Weave spinning around him, Lioslan advanced on the sorceror with murderous intent. Heartened by the swift felling of the orcs responsible for the merciless attack on the refugees (even if he did suspect he was wearing a little of Dargrim's orc), Lioslan struck again.

While the archer is reacting to Innocent's stab, Kevkas smashes his heavy greatsword down into the orc's back. He grins at Innocent. "You're good luck, priest's friend! You pick the next one and I'll follow."

It would be helpful to me if I could have you guys list your targets and specific actions - for example, Lioslan would have had to take a 5 foot step to reach the target of his strike, and Gyro would have had to have charged. Stating your specific target - Orc sorcerer B, for example - will also help to make things smoother and easier.

@ Gyro - adding the bonus to hit from your charge means you hit Orc archer C. I'll roll damage for you.

Actions for group D:

Lioslan steps forward after the retreating orc sorcerer and slashes at him with his curved sword. The blow cuts the Orc's shoulder, drawing forth a grunt of pain!

Gyro charges forth, slamming into Orc archer C and striking him for:
Damage: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
The Orc snarls as the gnomish warrior slams his earthbreaker into him. Before he can counterattack, however, Kevkas drives his greatsword down, nearly splitting to monstrous in two!

Actions for group E:

Contrary to what is often beleived, orcs are not entirely stupid, mindless brutes who live for battle. Some are brutes who prefer to live to fight another day. Orc archer A is such an Orc. He surveys the battlefield with his reddish tinted eyes and comes to the conclusion that the numbers are not in his favour. He turns and, taking a withdrawal action, leaves the lone Orcish sorcerer to his fate.

Round 5 is done! Round six, group A - Ulciscor and Dorn - are up next!

@DM Locke - Quick question: Who was the "one more" refugee that Ulciscor stabilized? The one at W9 is out of range of his channel from where he stands now, if you meant him. Just asking in case there's someone else I've missed.

Ulciscor let a small, dissatisfied grunt escape, as he saw one of the orcs manage to avoid proper justice by fleeing. Only for now, he promised, and moved to a position where he could call upon his God once more, to the greatest effect.

"Bring unto those who defend and avenge the innocent, yea, even the innocent themselves, strength and health, that they may avenge themselves against their unrighteous attackers."

At last, it seems Hoar has recognized the plight of his priest (or been badgered by said priest long enough to relent), and a wave of healing energy flows forth, strengthening and healing the companions and some of the fallen refugees. Even some of the fallen orcs seem to be touched by the wave (though it does not heal the dead - more of a bitter tease as their souls leave their bodies, 'if you had been strong enough to hold to life only a few moments longer...'). Of course, those Orcs still living felt nothing of Hoar's blessing - though they might soon feel of His wrath, if the look in Ulciscor's eyes was any measure.

5' Step to q13 (that should put Kevkas at one edge of his 30' radius, and the possibly refugee at W9 at the other edge). Channel for 5 HP healing (that should hit everyone in the party, the refugees at N18, and P18, MAYBE the one at W9 - but not the ones at Q21 or M21). Exclude all the living Orcs in range. Map (and Ulciscor's status) updated.

Channel: 1d6 ⇒ 5

Yes, I thought the refugee was going to fit within the area of effect for Ulciscor's channeling. He's clearly not, and without line of sight the channel isn't going to affect him, perception roll or no. Can't save em all!

It's not line of sight that matters for Channeling to affect someone. It's just line of effect (if the tent blocks LoE, then that's fine). If you're in range, you're of the type of creature that can be affected (living or (un)dead, as the case may be), and there's not something hard between you and the Channeler, you're affected (whether the Channeler likes it or not). But for the Feat that allows him to Exclude people, Line of Sight matters. Which means, for example, if there was a wounded Orc on the other side of the tent, and the tent didn't block LoE (it does block LoS), Ulciscor would inadvertently heal the Orc, because he can't see him to exclude him. But all of that said, if the refugee is out of range or LoE, it's more important to heal Kev than the refugee. After all, Kev is delivering Retribution. And if the refugee dies, well, that's probably because he did something mean to an innocent orc baby or something. ;-)

"That's the nicest thing I've heard all year. Let's make sure this one doesn't live to fight another day, shall we?"

The magus speaks with only a fraction of Kevkas' mirth, sparing a glance at the retreating orc who will report the mining town's defenders, making the element of surprise all that more critical when those defenders become offenders. If not for the fact that he suspects the tribe will cut the runner down for deserting the battle, Innocent would mark him for later retribution.

Innocent moves swiftly behind the orc sorceror, attempting to cut off its ability to flee...and its head, too.

@ Ulciscor - thanks for the clarification.

Actions for group A:

Ulciscor channels energy, and the positive energy closes everyone's wounds!

Dorn helps a refugee to her feet and directs her to the gate.

Group B is up next - Dargrim and Innocent.

@ Innocent - not a worry in this situation. You declared just before your group was scheduled to act, which is fine. Declaring two or three groups in advance can potentially cause an issue, as the battlefield could potentially change in that time and then a second post would be required to restate an action. I like organization....

Innocent deftly slips behind the Orc sorcerer and beheads him with his scimitar. The body drops to the ground and the head rolls away, the mouth still trying to articulate one last curse...

Combat is over! Everyone gets 192 xp - well done!

As you survey the battlefield, you observe that the Orcs are in general retreat, the handful remaining fleeing the refugee camp. There is a price to be paid, however - numerous tents and shelters are alight, killing anyone who would have been inside and destroying their worldly possessions. From your vantage point you can see over a dozen dead refugees and several dead guards and volunteers.

Argentia sheathes her sword while approaching. She surveys the dead Orcs, and the refugees you saved. Nice work! I see you men can back up your words with action. This was no full on attack - just an exploratory raid, twenty four or twenty five attackers in all. Bold, though...
