Thanks for selecting me! I have high hopes for this game and am looking forward to kicking it off.

Would I have been given an overview of the town by whatever government official put me up to this? Or am I going in blind?

Look forward to working with you on this game. And I suppose now is a good a time to finalize my equipment.

Yep, time to finalize equipment. It makes my job easier.

I am still debating on some of the finer points so bear with me if we don't start tonight.

I will have a few more questions tomorrow, but here are a few now for you, not Connacht (nice name btw).

1. What do you like best in your RP games? Conan, what is best in life?

2. What do you like least?

3. Do you have any requests?

4. Any trigger areas, topics you don't wish to explore, no go zones?

5. You said you enjoyed One Out of Many (flattery will get you everywhere). What did you enjoy about it?

Thanks!

No worries if we don't start tonight. I understand.

1. I'm big on ethical conundrums and political intrigue. The struggle between good and evil (internally and externally) is great in stories, and I've always loved politics of some sort.

2. I have a pretty strong dislike for joke characters. Not funny characters. Not weird characters. But characters who exist for the sole purpose of making the game just weird. I almost always play as lawful characters, and I dislike just wild randomness in NPC's and party members.

Don't expect that to be a problem here though.

3. Would you mind if I used mythweavers character sheets for my character? I'm much more used to them than just typing things out, and helps me keep track of my character more efficiently.

4. Nothing too sexually explicit. I'm not saying those themes can't be dealt with, but just in a more circumspect way if possible. Don't expect this to be an issue either, but worth mentioning.

5. To be honest, I enjoyed the in depth and multi faceted political intrigue that a religious character is dealing with. I adore all of those themes, and you and your player handle them well. Considering my character is in, at least to some extent, a similar situation (deals with religion and law quite a good deal), I feel like we cam use some of those same themes.

Male Human Nature Fang Druid 5 |||| HP: 16/36| AC: 18 (touch 12, flat foot 17)| F: +7 R: +3 W: +8| Perc: +10 SM: +13| INIT:+1 | Speed: 30ft| Spell Stored in Armor: Ray of Exhaustion| Status Effects: Dealing with Strange Aeons

Now, I've got some questions for you, so I can help be a better player for you:

1. Is there anything at all in my backstory you would like me to clarify/modify/alter add?

2. How much do trained homing pigeons cost? I plan on using them with the animal messenger spell to send regular reports back to whoever my superior is, and enable two way communication.

3. How do Automatic Bonus Progression rules affect animal companions. I assume they don't gain the bonuses, but it's worth asking.

4. Is there anything about my character's (rough) plan of policing the town that you would have an issue dealing with as a DM?

5. Anything else you would prefer for me to know / be aware of?

6. The latest AP by Paizo deals with Taldor rather extensively. I don't know too many details, but (to my character's knowledge) is Grand Prince Stavian III still king? Is civil war actively ongoing?

--------------------------------------

Finally, I have one more detail to bring up: *technically*, druids are only allowed to be neutral, but considering you've got a LN paladin in another game... well, I figure you wouldn't care too much if my druid is LG, as it really is what fits him the best.

On this note: while my character is not a paladin, he is a divine caster of Erastil, and I always prefer to have divine spell casting come with certain behavioral strings attached.

With this in mind: would you be up to working with me to formulate a basic code of conduct for my character to follow? I'm one of the people who finds paladin codes of conduct to add to a character's depth and personality rather than just being a hindrance (I like lawful characters, what can I say). I'm not saying it should even be as strict as a paladin's, but I don't expect Erastil is the sort of being who just lets people do whatever they want with divine power.

----------------------

Look forward to starting this whenever you are ready!

Mythweavers is fine, just give me an easy link to find. If you can, please add some basic stats to the description line under your name. Just helps me out.

Poor Rudabeh. She has struggles ahead of her.

I don't do much wild randomness. I squeeze too much plot into every NPC to allow them time to lollygag about being silly!

Now, to answer your questions....

1. Can you tell me more about Lathair, the wolf?

2. Let me look into that. Another form of communication may be provided.....

3.Nope, sorry.

4. I have no problems with it. I have a feeling any plans either of us make will dissolve one you get involved in the intricacies of the town however. And there are a few twists ahead for you. I try not to over-plan since PCs have a way of making fools of plans (which is the best part of RPGs).Kinda sad you don't want to impale anyone, but ah well, what can you do? Kidding

5-6: Will be explained in the Opening Post.

I have no problems with a lawful druid. I find alignment limitations for classes to be annoying. They are good to limit characters and their choices, but not limiting their mechanics as such (this is ironic because I had another game whose entire plot was about a druid who altered alignment and lost his class levels. And he went blind).

I'm happy to help with however you want for a code. They can be a useful tool for a GM.That way I can set up interesting choices for you, which to me, is the heart of the game. Anyone can hack and kill some goblins, but trying to decide the different between what is moral, what is legal and what is right? Much harder.

Male Human Nature Fang Druid 5 |||| HP: 16/36| AC: 18 (touch 12, flat foot 17)| F: +7 R: +3 W: +8| Perc: +10 SM: +13| INIT:+1 | Speed: 30ft| Spell Stored in Armor: Ray of Exhaustion| Status Effects: Dealing with Strange Aeons

Don't you just love it when the site goes down for hours :(

In any case: I'll come up with more on the wolf but I'll be working all day today and that might have to wait until tonight.

As for the code, the paladin of Erastil code is as good a place to start as any, along with some more stuff on nature. I'll try to come to up with something for that tonight as well.

Should have that shoping done by then too!

Looking forward to it!

A word from a hardened veteran: carry a minimum of 50 tanglefoot bags at all times.

This guy (Mowque) likes to throw manticores at you from out of nowhere.

Don't believe me? Just wait. Give it 10 posts and they'll be swarming around you like mosquitoes orbiting a boggard's ass. Then you'll think "Wow I'm glad that one crazy person who was definitely not jealous of their GM's new game told me to carry 50 tanglefoot bags for seemingly no reason."

You're welcome.

(Seriously though, you're in for a treat. Mowque is GREAT, absolutely an A+++ GM. Have fun!)

Oh I plan to have entangling shot with me on my gun. What sherif doesn’t have a gun, after all :)

Also, Mowque, I’ll be making a bunch of plant and earth puns indirectly with my character. Earth puns are the new water puns :)

*looks to the heavens beseechingly*

Two of them? Dear Abaadr, two?

BTW, Connacht, while will certainly be embracing some wild west vibes, I also plan to bring in some Silk Road, caravanserai feels too. I hope that works for you?

All of that sounds cool! Whatever mire he finds himself entangled in, he'll find a way to dig himself out of it.

As for the wolf: at the last town he was at around a year and a half ago, a group of *shudders* adventurers came through with some traveling circus they were running. At one of the events he was supervising, one of the acts was a wolf cub that would be fighting someone for sport.

Not liking animal cruelty one bit, he pulled out his rapidly growing list of all the various bureaucratic and local ordinances they had been violating and had the entire thing shut down and kicked out of town. One broken nose and two black eyes were also given to some members of the adventuring crew, and as far as he's concerned they got easy.

He chose to adopt the wolf cub for himself, and chose to name him Derwyn.

Also his name is Derwyn now. Sorry for the last minute change there, but I wasn't satisfied with the last one and felt it needed to change.

BTW: I basically just have ammo left to purchase, so don't wait for me to throw up the first post.

As for the oaths, here's what I have in mind.

- The no metal armor bit all druids have (nothing against metal tools or weapons).

- Adultery is anathema, as is all dalliance outside of marriage. I am a living testament to the sanctity of all familial bonds.

- I am trustworthy and stable. If I must leave my lands and community, before I go, I ensure that they will be tended in my absence. Even when duty calls, my duties to my home come first—letting them lapse makes me a burden on my people.

- All who has surrender to me in good faith shall be given the opportunity to be tried before just authorities and the chance reconcile with the gods of justice so long as it is within my power. Where possible and prudent, outlaws will be given the means to re-integrate themselves into the community.

- Reputation is crucial. I am a exemplar of just and temperate behavior in whatever community I am in. If my reputation is damaged, I shall repair it.

- I keep to the old ways, the true ways. I am not seduced by the lure of money or power. I remember that true honor comes from within, not from the accolades of others.

- I must offer the poor in my community assistance, but I may not do the work for them—instead, I must teach them to contribute to the settlement. It is only through cooperation that a community grows strong.

- I show respect to my elders, for they have done much. I show respect to the young, for they have much left to do. I show respect to my peers, for they carry the load. And I shall carry it with them.

- Children must be nurtured lest their innocence become callousness or ignorance. I will never be cold or negligent to a child.

- My community comes first, and I will contribute to it all that I can. If I don’t give something back, who will?

Anything you'd like to add or modify?

Working away on the first post.

Interesting list of oaths.

The adultery one will be fun to explore. The part about trials in front of a judge will be interesting.

I look forward to putting you in Catch-22 positions.

Male Human Nature Fang Druid 5 |||| HP: 16/36| AC: 18 (touch 12, flat foot 17)| F: +7 R: +3 W: +8| Perc: +10 SM: +13| INIT:+1 | Speed: 30ft| Spell Stored in Armor: Ray of Exhaustion| Status Effects: Dealing with Strange Aeons

To be clear, I don't foresee Connacht struggling to greatly with that one. He's newly married and loves his wife. I included it because Erastil is very much a god of marriage, and so it makes sense for his followers to have an oath about marriage and the family.

As for trials: I don't know quite exactly how much authority Connacht has. If he's got the power to judge prisoners, well then, all that matters is that he observes some sort of formality and not just kill people. If he's not allowed to judge, well then, that complicates things.

Look forward to the opening post!

I just realized something. Is Wessa Gwennou coming with you?

Male Human Nature Fang Druid 5 |||| HP: 16/36| AC: 18 (touch 12, flat foot 17)| F: +7 R: +3 W: +8| Perc: +10 SM: +13| INIT:+1 | Speed: 30ft| Spell Stored in Armor: Ray of Exhaustion| Status Effects: Dealing with Strange Aeons

No. For the moment, she will be staying at the other city, although he will be writing her frequent letters. Once he has determined that the town is safe, she'll come along.

Besides, she still has a bureaucratic post in that city anyways, and convincing Taldor's bureaucracy to let her move will take time. They are both lawful, so just saying "screw the job" isn't an option.

I wrote an entire page for the OP, but now I hate it. Sorry but I want to make it good. Other posts always flow easier but the opening crawl (star Wars style) has to carry a lot of weight. Forgive me.

Male Human Nature Fang Druid 5 |||| HP: 16/36| AC: 18 (touch 12, flat foot 17)| F: +7 R: +3 W: +8| Perc: +10 SM: +13| INIT:+1 | Speed: 30ft| Spell Stored in Armor: Ray of Exhaustion| Status Effects: Dealing with Strange Aeons

No worries! I'm still finalizing gear anyways.

Got a price for those homing pigeons?

Well, a chicken costs about one gold piece. Say a trained homing pigeon... 2 gold pieces? How many are you bringing? Recall you will be traveling by foot to Wheldrake, which is hundreds of miles north of Yanmiss.

If you like, you can have Taldor send you pigeons along with the next caravan?

Male Human Nature Fang Druid 5 |||| HP: 16/36| AC: 18 (touch 12, flat foot 17)| F: +7 R: +3 W: +8| Perc: +10 SM: +13| INIT:+1 | Speed: 30ft| Spell Stored in Armor: Ray of Exhaustion| Status Effects: Dealing with Strange Aeons

Potentially. I'll see how much gold I've got and work from there.

Think I cracked it. Post will be going up today.

Male Human Nature Fang Druid 5 |||| HP: 16/36| AC: 18 (touch 12, flat foot 17)| F: +7 R: +3 W: +8| Perc: +10 SM: +13| INIT:+1 | Speed: 30ft| Spell Stored in Armor: Ray of Exhaustion| Status Effects: Dealing with Strange Aeons

Awesome! Look forward to it. I’ll get tat gear finally sorted out.

Gear always takes forever.

I am really looking forward to this game.

Gear should be done! I'll hold off on the homing pigeons for later, try and get them sent to me by other means.

Post is up.

Hit me with any questions or problems with the Opening Post.

Male Human Nature Fang Druid 5 |||| HP: 16/36| AC: 18 (touch 12, flat foot 17)| F: +7 R: +3 W: +8| Perc: +10 SM: +13| INIT:+1 | Speed: 30ft| Spell Stored in Armor: Ray of Exhaustion| Status Effects: Dealing with Strange Aeons

No problems, but I do have questions:

What date is it? Connacht would have tried to keep track.

2. What is Connacht's official salary for this? Depending on how much I'm expected to be on my own, I might ditch one of my items and just get more supplies.

3. Is the faith of Sarenrae still illegal in Taldor? I know from other sources that it at least used to be, but have no idea if it still is in your lore.

(of course, I might be wrong about the temple, but it seems like a likely guess, hence why I ask. )

I'll get my spell list ready shortly.

Looking forward to this!

1. You mean the year or an exact day?

2. The official salary is quite low as in Taldor they expect you to actually make a living in graft and bribes. Paying you high wages is just a waste of money. 5 gold pieces a month which they assure you will be sent with various caravans north.

3. It is broadly tolerated but there are some cults and denominations that are strictly banned. Various Emperors have enforced these are varying levels of severity. The current ruler has not made a practice of it.

4. Spell list, looking forward to it. If you have an general things you want to make clear to me about your spells, now is the time.

What do you think of the post? Clear?

Male Human Nature Fang Druid 5 |||| HP: 16/36| AC: 18 (touch 12, flat foot 17)| F: +7 R: +3 W: +8| Perc: +10 SM: +13| INIT:+1 | Speed: 30ft| Spell Stored in Armor: Ray of Exhaustion| Status Effects: Dealing with Strange Aeons

Year and date. Need to include those on reports after all :)

Also, considering my salary is expected to be compensated by high levels of graft, I'm going to be ditching one of my 1000 gp items and getting more supplies. I might be running on a deficit for a while.

Post was clear! Spell list coming soon!

Important question: what precisely are the firearms rules? Are we using emerging guns or something else?

Emerging Guns sounds right.

Welp, I just realized just how expensive firearm ammo is without the gunsmithing feat. Still going to use guns, but dang.

It’ll all work out: I’m not planning on making any drastic changes from the inventory on my character sheet at the moment, so please don’t let the game be held up on my account.

Never fear. I will, at some point, provide a RP way of getting the gunsmithing feat.

Didn't say it will be easy, mind.

Something tells me I'm not going to get to speak to a wise and erudite druid filled with wise words for her successor at the beginning of my game.

Yeah, and I am sorry for that. This game doesn't quite start out with the same bang as that one.

Still, I have plans and we will be going places Rudabeh can only dream of, hopefully.

Look forward to it! Just to be clear: I’m not disappointed with the opening of the game at all. I just thought the contrast was funny.

Without wild empathy (it got swapped out in the nature fang archetype), is there any way for me to just calm down the dogs? Can handle animal do that?

Just trying to piece together what's possible from a game standpoint, not asking about success or failure.

Handle Animal makes sense although your description of what that implies will help. More RP helps me out.

Oh of course! I'll absolutely be RPing it, not just saying "I try to calm the animals" and giving a dice roll. I was just figuring out if I could make the attempt at all.

Post coming soon, thanks for the clarification.

Man I am killing these rolls. I can't wait for all my luck to vanish the moment these rolls have some grand significance to the plot.

The plot already is thickening. Now we just have to determine how much patriotic graft the good prefect is engaging in, or what else is going on.

On this note: is the man human? And now that I'm getting closer to him. how old does he appear to be?

I enjoy the bible quote.

Trust me, these rolls are more important then you know. Small seeds can portend great things...

Gotta put that Catholicism to use somehow :). It just seemed really apt for the situation and absolutely like something that could be in the parables of Erastil.

Did you catch my question about the man's race and age? I assumed human, but if that's a mistake on my part I'd like to be corrected.
