With Kima's warning, you remember that some nice ysoki on Absalom Station gave you some plant bulbs that might help if you get poisoned...

I will assume that you consume these at this time, because...

A mere 15 minutes after you've been trekking across the sandy dunes of Ulmarid, a sudden rainstorm of sharp purple crystals begins falling out of an otherwise clear sky!

Everybody, please give me three DC 12 Reflex Saves! Remember that some of you have +4s to this save!

If you fail -
Your first failed save: 1d6 ⇒ 5 Slashing damage
Your second failed save: 1d6 ⇒ 6 Slashing damage
Your third failed save: 1d6 ⇒ 4 Slashing damage

If you take any damage from the storm, roll a DC 12 Fortitude Save or else:
You gain the encumbered condition for the next hour.

Eating the plant bulb gives you a +4 on the above Fortitude Save.

Kitlul does its best not to get hit by the larger purple crystals by always looking above where it next expects to have to leap.

Yes, Kima's healing only helps hit point damage. However, because Zez'ka and Kima both identified the weather patterns correctly, I am going to assume that those of you who took damage are going to take a 10 minute rest (and spend 1 Resolve point) to recover all of your stamina :)

After resting, you press onward until you can see the wreck of the crashed Starfinder vessel (hatchmarked area on the map).

Salamander and Kitkul recognize the weapon buried in the sand as an immobile Tactical X-gen gun. This heavy weapon is still operational, but it has only 10 charges remaining and it is too damaged to be reloaded. It is on a swivel-mount, meaning that if you are in its square, you can fire it at any target in a 360-degree arc.

I will move people later tonight, because I know one or two of you are having busy/hectic times offline, but I'll give you each a bit before moving forward. Kitkul grunts as the skreebara's bite crushes into its shoulder carapace. It also realizes that this beast is harder than expected, so it does it best to hit it as hard and as often as possible.

To hit 1st time: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (4) - 1 = 3 to hit the skreebara.
Damage for first hit: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5 +1 energy and +1 insight being photon attuned. I forgot to add that to the last attack

Damage for first hit: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7 +1 energy and +1 insight being photon attuned.

Kitkul's aura starts to pulse with a blue-white energy.

I also forgot to mention that 2nd round attunement was last round (sorry, 1st time playing a solarian, and this week has been heck (and it is only Tuesday...sigh)).
This is now the 3 round of attunement. Next round....supernova.

Kitkul's first attack misses, but the second one connects!

Kima's shot is also a hit on the beast's shoulder!

Zez'ka catches the Skreebara totally unawares, connecting with her shot!

Vodra advances and fires, scoring a hit with his pistol!

Shiohn likewise connects with her shot, hitting the beast in one of its eyes!

Finally, Salamander opens fire with the heavy weapon - the damage isn't overly much on its own, but combined with the full volley that your team dished out, it is enough to slay the Skreebara!

You are now out of combat!

Nice shooting, everyone! It didn't even have a chance to react with its two morale conditions before you took it from healthy to dead! More coming in just a minute.

After the battle...

Engineering DC 10 & Soldiers can attempt this check untrained:
The tactical X-gen gun affixed to the section of shattered hull can be removed with about 10 minutes of work. Although the weapon is too damaged to be functional (apart from firing its remaining shots), it can be sold for parts and scrap for 212 credits.

If you would like to examine the corpse of the Skreebara -

(Note - attempting and failing this particular check may have negative consequences, so please note if you are using the aid another action before rolling - thanks!)

Life Science DC 12:
The tough, overlapping crystals that make up the skreebara’s carapace are valuable. You are able to harvest crystals worth 800 credits from the creature.

Once you reach the wreckage of the Unbounded Wayfarer, you can plainly see that the vessel is far beyond repair. Although one of the Starfinders survived long enough to activate the distress beacon, there are no survivors—only six desiccated corpses remain in the wreckage, while the remaining crew members were apparently pulled out by the skreebara and devoured.

Perception or Piloting DC 15:
You recognize characteristic impact marks of heavy metallic slugs on the ship's hull, such as those used in coilguns or railguns on starships. The damage on the ship’s hull indicates that it tried to dodge the strafing fire but darted the wrong way. This information might be very useful to your crew if you encounter the ship that brought the Unbounded Wayfarer down.

Nothing else of value remains in the wreck; anything obviously worth salvaging was taken by the Corpse Fleet explorer that plundered it earlier. Although the Unbounded Wayfarer’s computers are beyond repair, they retain sufficient power to interact with the Starfinder insignias that you brought with you. The computer interface ports contain an indentation the same shape as the Starfinder insignias. (The Corpse Fleet explorer overlooked this connection.) When one of the insignias
is slotted into the indentation, the computer flares to life just enough to display a datafile of worlds previously explored by crew of the Unbounded Wayfarer. They include:

  • A wasteland planet called Elytrio that displayed signs of scattered technology.
  • A sentient asteroid called Lamentia teeming with morlock “children” in the Vast.
  • A massive space station called End of Bright Things stuck between the orbits of two blue dwarf stars.
  • A stormy, oceanic world called Wealdriad, with upthrust columns of basalt piercing the storm-tossed ocean’s surface.

The final location’s coordinates are too damaged to display, but the computer has enough power to open a slot containing a salvaged item from the lost location - an Iridescent Spindle Aeon Stone.

You can easily download this data into any personal data device, or send a wireless transmission of the files to the Odyssey for storage.

Is there anything you would like to do before returning to your ship?

"HAPPY!" Zez'ka exclaims. "I am very pleased that none of us died a horrible death!"

While the others examine the skreebara, Zez'ka heads over to the wreck of the Unbounded Wayfarer.

"Hello? Are there any survivors in here? Hopeful!"

As she pulled the desiccated corpses from the wreckage, her antennae droop sadly. "There is only death. SAD!"

Zez'ka lines up the bodies carefully. "I desire to return them to Absalom for proper burial. Mournful!"

Then she sifts through the wreckage of the ship along with Kima. When Kima points out the markings on the ship, Zez'ka's antennae twitch. "Oh, yes! This is most interesting!"

Inside the wreckage, Zez'ka uses her insignia to access the information and transfers it to her ship's drives.

When she finds the strange stone, Zez'ka holds it up and looks at it. "Curious!"

Kitkul watches its allies do engineering and science stuff while it decides to take a ten minute rest....that fight was....intense.

"Thank you.....my friends. ....I now know that the Lorespire is my warren, and you all...and all the other Starfinders are my broodmates...my friends...my family. I am a formian soldier...one that was flawed, as I was more independent. The hive mother decreed it must have been because I was manifesting powers...becoming a solarian. Because of this it was either death or exile. I thought I would never find another family, but this fight showed me you all were willing to fight overwhelming power. I was the armor...you all were the blade. Again.....Thank you."
