Zoggle Init: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24

Order:

1. Zoggle
2. Owlbear
3. Zern
4. Driana
5. Niah
6. Esther

Game Master

sorry zoggle, I'm gonna puppet your first round here. Also... I couldn't find any of his info in his profile (no worries), so I'm gonna work with what I do know...

Zoggle takes a 5ft step and then fires a mighty blast from his musket at the owlbear's face...

attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27

damage: 1d12 ⇒ 10

... And scores a direct shot for 10 damage!

The Beast lets out a howl, take a step towards Esther and then swipes at he with his massive claws...

attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
grapple: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (15) + 14 = 29

attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
grapple: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (4) + 14 = 18

... And the owlbear misses with one of his attacks, but the next one connects and deals 5 damage to Esther, who is also snatched up by the magical beast's magical claw! Esther is now grappled.

Zern's eyes grow wide as he watches the situation unfold. He knows how disastrous an out of control owlbear can be... he reaches into his pack and grabs one of his many fireworks, aims at the owlbear, and then lights the fuse.

The firework explodes right near the bears face...

owlbear fort save: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17

Esther, since you are grappled by the bear, would you please make a fort save as well

... but the creature manages to avert his eyes from the bright firework explosion.

Niah looks at the owlbear. And by look, I mean she gives him The Look... The owlbear catches her gaze and thinks to itself, in whatever capacity an owlbear can think, "that... that is so evil... that eye... is just... evil"...

owlbear will save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20

... but as scared of the witch's stare that it is... he does not seem to be too effected.

Ok, Driana and Esther are up, and then round 2

Realizing the reality of the situation, Driana smirked, the edges of her mouth peelin slightly open, revealing her rows of shark-like teeth. The festival had been entertaining, but now it had gotten FUN!

"Dont worry there lady, ive got this!" she yelled, before launching into a charge and a blood curdling roar.

Seems Driana is suffering from a bit of digestion fatigue, curse you chocolate bun! Hopefully I atleast hit with the grapple penalties and Evil Eye.

Game Master

Esther you make your fort save.

Draina, you do actually hit for 11 damage. The creature has taken 21 so far...

Game Master

Esther, it should also be noted the gnomish owlbear tamer was hit by your channel and is slowly picking himself up off the ground, and appears to be fumbling around in a pack.

Hp 81/81 AC 24 (21) (+12 Perc; +4 Init; Fort +9, Ref +10, Will +7)

yes i was the intent to try and "save" the gnome tamer.

Game Master

It took me a minute... but I totally figured out what you were trying to do ;P crafty PCs...

So... owlbear has Esther grappled. Gnome guy is looking through a backpack for something. Round 2... FIGHT!

On the owlbear's turn, it will...

Attempt to maintain the grapple...

Caught up in the fury and joy of battle, Driana pressed her attack. The creature was leaving itself open to easily get hit by her attacks, occupied as it were with the stranger it was viciously chewing on.

"Grraaawwwrrr!!!"

Driana rushes the magical, fantastical owlbear. She screams and swings with her sword and bites at it. Her bite is unable to pierce its fury flesh, but her sword finds a sweet spot and does 15 damage!

The owlbear has now taken 36 total damage, and the creature is bloodied.

I probably shouldn't have used to word 'stack' to describe it as it is misleading. bonuses/penalties from the same source do not stack when they are a bonus/penalty of the same type. But how awesome would it be if I could just give it an ever increasing -2 AC every turn?

Niah quiets down momentarily, close inspection shows that she is mouthing words quietly. She then looks back at the Owlbear grappling the Cleric and bursts into laughter once more.

K, owlbear is now evil eyed (again) for 1 round + x amount of cackles... -2 to ac, attack, and saving throws.

Niah, in the future, I think it would be beneficial to begin with the saving throw evil eye, that way its more likely your other ones stick around longer, letting you move or something ;P

The owlbear will retain the grapple...

grapple: 1d20 + 14 + 5 - 2 ⇒ (16) + 14 + 5 - 2 = 33

And then throw Esther 10 ft away, sending he crashing to the ground...

The owlbear hurls Esther with all it's might, sending her crashing head first into the ground ten ft away with a severe thunk...

Feeling rather upstaged by the madly cackling stranger, even if she didnt seem to contribute anything at all, Driana burst into a mad laughter of her own, sounding just a smidge more insane that fierce. "Whats her deal? Theres fight or flight woman, make up your mind!"

As the Bear thing chomped on its chew toy yet again, before sending the woman flying, Driana taunted it, oblivious to the fact that it didnt understand a word.

"Oi, looks like ya realized whos worthy of yer attention didnt ya, Featherbrain?! Aint noone ignorin Driana for long if they know whats good for em!"

Not sure if I could get a flank so didnt include it in the attack rolls, but Driana will take a Five Foot Step to get the flank if possible (or failing that, take the Five Foot Step to start setting up a flank in a later round.

Game Master

Alright one attack hits an does 8 damage. Driana also rushes in, sword gleaming, teeth flashing, and does another 26 damage... The creature lets out a final aaaaawooooo-hooo and then collapses.

At this point the gnome triumphantly pulls a wand out of his back.

aha! My owlbear charming wand!! Now time to tame the beast again... Oh dear ... WHAT DID YOU DO TO WALTER??... He better not be dead... My poor poor walter

Driana could be heard grumbling something under her breath, those with good ears catching what sounded like "Yeah ya better not be, Featherbrain, wastin good magic on ya is one thing, but wastin it on a corpse...oh boy, ya better not be dead there Featherbrain."

Jamming her sword into the grass field, she reaching a long nailed finger down towards the beast, fondling a necklace with the other hand, muttering more words. A glow so faint and brief, those watching had to question if it had even been there, lit up the space between her finger and the wounded beast.

She then proceeded to shove her hand into its mouth, waiting to feel the presence or absence of its warm breath.

Sorry for the absence guys. I'll get to posting my character ASAP.

no worries zoggle xD you messed up an owlbear prett bad with your musket, except you all may have killed it. And you maybe shouldn't have killed it. Buts it's probably ok.

Game Master

EDIT* I changed my mind, after doing the math. so the owlbear is at I believe -30 hit points after Driana's attack... I would really like for him to be alive... but alas, that's a pretty big amount of fudging ;P poor Walter. We barely knew ya

You fail to stabilize him, as he is already very dead. The gnome is so upset that he forgets how angry he is that you killed his friend...

im sorry big W... I musta forgot to recast your charms... I swore I did but I must have forgot... I know you'd never hurt me no no it was all the strangers that scared ya I know I know shhhh shhh dream up babe. It'll be ok...

bright light emits from the gnome's hands as he lays them over the owlbear, tears running down his face, as he feebly attempts to cast cure magic... but to no avail.

While he is mourning after the bear, he notices a small dart sticking out of the owlbear's neck...

What... what's this? Did one of you... you murdering thugs poison him? couldn't face ol' Walter in a fair fight?

Driana scoffed at the Gnomes accusations, however when he suddenly accused her of using poison, of not fighting fair, she had to silence the little ingrate. But im gonna give ya a chance to say "sorry" and "thank you", cuz this is a festival, not a battlefield, after all. She let the Gnome dump down upon the belly of the beast. Ester feeling really sorry for the owlbear will get on her knees and start praying for his eternal rest:

There is a city bright
Closed are its gates to pain
Nought that defileth, nought that defileth
Can ever enter in

Till in the snowy dress
Of Thy redeemed I stand
Faultless and stainless, faultless and stainless
Safe in that happy land.

The gnome stands silently as Esther prays. When she concludes, he will shed a final tear, and then ask niah for the dart.

The council will certainly want to see this... Yes... Why would someone want to cause such a ruckus... I don't understand... And where is Edarian the clockmaker... Strange days strange days...

Game Master

The rest of the day passes uneventfully. Around the market you see many exciting things... A tall man with a greatsword and a half-elf contact juggling sit under a tree, speaking loudly of certain doom. The half-elf speaks

I feel it Min, things are happening here. You see that owlbear go beserk? And remember all them fey raiding through the wood? Wonder what it is that would rile them all up... usually peaceful place... I thought clockwork Wiz was supposed to show up? Isn't that what that fairy told us back in... where.... wherever we were? That that guy is an ancient protector of the wood? Or something... bah

The half-elf goes back to his juggling and starts to sing a sad little song...

The large man examines his sword and says nothing...

DC 20 Perception checks:

Anyone who can make a dc 20 perception check notices small, metal, spider like creatures scurrying about here and there, apparently watching... Also niah... you recognize these two as old acquaintances...

You also see a Troll running around harassing people. A minotaur selling what he claims are magic horseshoes. Fairies flit about, attempting to pull your hair and cause mischief. An old crone stooped over a cauldron sells green apples. And so on and so forth... you all eventually make your way back through the wall to the town of Timber to find lodging for the night.

Many of the elder townsfolk talk about strange things in the wind... but all of it is cast off as superstition by most everyone. People say a shadow is creeping over the lands... but the people who say this... well... no one trusts anyone from in the fey wilds...

But to all of you, it is very obvious most people are a nit uneasy, and things are not quite as they should be...

Let's go see the bard, Matt. I'm sure if nothing else we will get to hear interesting stories. Lost in thought for a moment, she looks back at Matthias. Bards really are great, aren't they?

ok, I didn't foresee the festival being such a hit ;p I had originally just sorta had it as a device to introduce some plot... Let me do a little bit if writing an thinking and well have some more interesting encounters with the strange people of the market... Also! Zern takes in all of the sites and ponders the Owlbear mystery. The actions of the other Tiefling both frighten and fascinate him. I remember having that fire, before the monks beat order and discipline into me. They said that they could protect me, but... Driana. What an interesting name.

Zern wanders around the festival, and eyes the old crone with her apples. He then sees Driana march up and ask for one and quickly heads in a different direction. He finds the Troll harrassing people and marches up to him. He pulls out a vial of a dark, bloody looking vial and stares at it for a moment, then glances over to Driana and downs it. "Hey, ogre! How about you pick on someone your own size! Or am I too large for you? Little goblin, how about a wrestling match?"

Zen's muscles bulge and his horns descend an inch as they grow larger. His brow thickens and his teeth become a little pointed. He growls at the Troll Intimidate: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26

Niah:

Niah approaches the bard and his burly companion. The bard appears to be a cloaked half-elf with shortish black hair, emerald eyes, and a pale complexion. His companion is a tall muscular grey-eyed human with a scruffy beard and a buzzed haircut. He has a greatsword sheathed across his back.

As you approach, the bard sits down and pulls out an acoustic bass guitar, and then subsequently proceeds to slap some epic deathcore acid funk fuison bass line. The man busts out some bongo drums and lays down a solid beat.

You immediately recognize the half-elf as Oberst, former lead singer of Born of Asmodeus! The man is unknown to you.

Driana:

Approaching the crone, you see she appears unnaturally old. She is hooded by a dark black robe, and has wispy, snow white hair, and it is obvious one of her eyes is missing, as a wooden imitation stares blanky from her eye socket.

The old woman cackles:

Ah, my sweet, nothing like a green apple, eh? No, no, no, nobody likes those red ones... Green is so much better... won't you buy an innocent green apple from a kind old lady, my deary?

Esther:

You stumble out into an unexpected clearing devoid of any market stalls or tents. Instead, the little field contains what appears to be some sort of miniature race track. There are several small cages, and inside each one contains what appear to be different neon colored hedgehogs; green, orange, purple, pink, and blue.

An enormously fat little man, barely over three feet tall, sits on a stool near what seems to be an entry gate. He is finely dressed in a suit and tophat, monocle and all. He greets you as you approach:

Step up, folks! Get yer bets in, the next race is about to begin! Test your luck in the fantabulous extra amazing world renowned Timber Market Hedgehog Derby!!!

Zern:

The troll grunts in anger,

OOOOO? YOU ANGRY BRO? ANGRY? BRO? WHAT YOU GONNA DO BUDDY? HUH? YOU GOT PROBLEMS? PROBLEMS BRO?

Upon seeing you get all beefed up and whatnot, he immedietly changes his tune...

Woah, bro. I was just kidding man. It's just a game I didn't mean it, chill out...

He then attempts to quietly and cowardly slink away...

Oh my look at them hedge hogs go! It's a close one folks! They're neck and neck! Pink is pushing for the lead! But what's this? Orange is racing up the side! Orange passes pink! It's a photo finish!!!

You didn't win, but you did come in second, so you get your 1 gold back! Next race begins in 10 minutes!

Hp 81/81 AC 24 (21) (+12 Perc; +4 Init; Fort +9, Ref +10, Will +7)

That was fun.

i'll go to some other stand and buy some munchies for the Hedgehogs.

Female Sylph Witch (Wordcaster) 3 | HP: 17/20 | AC: 13/13/10 (+2 vs NMR) | Init: +3 | Perc: +5/+8 | Fort: +3 | Ref: +6 | Will: +6

Niah squees.

Oh my god! Oberst!? I never though I would see you again after you quit the band! How have you been? Can you sing us a song?

Matthias fidgets excitedly on Niah's shoulder.

It seems Niah's obsessive habit of arcane chanting is suppressed in the presence of Oberst.

Perhaps if you bet on the blue hedgehog and then say "Gotta go fast!" at the beginning of the race he will win everytime?
