You know, I rolled up the Oracle, and I like him, but he's way too similar to Calvin the Surgeon right now. Maybe I'll save him for another time and stick to Digger here.

I have decided on a oracle of battle. I am currently working on the background. I will post something soon. The crunch will not be hard.

Well well. Quite a motley crew we have assembled here. Just my kind of folk.

Kracow steps out of a shaded foyer and scans the scene like a butcher looks for prime cut.

sorry for the delay in my post, been busy.

Disguise self as rough and ready male, bearded and scruffy looking with hands harden from polishing metal.

Fik is no fool. Fik is mighty and supreme goblin, will be biggest chief of all. You two guns? Fik is One ear. All we need is No nose and we all set.

A goblin, without any ears of his own, seems to have decided to take somebody else's as a trophy.

I finally figured out how to add character information into a profile, so now Fik is all set up. Just need to nail down and write out his background sometime. That's always the hardest part for me (I want to include too much and it starts to make no sense).

Name:Vidor Varkony
Race:Human
Class:Ninja
Role:Support
Backstory:

:

What happens when a Varisian entertainer becomes a favorite of a Tian Xia noble? Well, in the case of Vidor you end up stuck in the land of mist as a "guest" of a daimyo for a decade. So it came to pass the swarthy adventurer earned his eventual freedom through service to his unintended lord through use of skills taught to him by the lord's spies, men called ninjas in the Tian language. Moving from household to household, Vidor learned the secrets of these other feudal lords and passed it back to his own. Never suspecting this outsider of such treachery the other daimyo too, came to enjoy his company. But it was not company Vidor sought, only freedom to return to the Inner Sea. Through use of the information Vidor brought him, his daimyo swept away his foes in battle. A man of honor, the daimyo kept his word and freed his friend bidding to return one day on his own terms.

Using the skills he learned in this exotic land, Vidor quickly made his way back to Abaslom where he set about making a business for himself a purveyor of information. Willing to take a job if the price is right, not much is beyond the gypsy's doing.

Alright, having thought it out over the course of work I may have something workable/interesting and fun.

Thinking Sorceror (or other Arcane)/Paladin, going Eldritch Knight, Dragon Disciple, or (unlikely but possible) Hellknight Signifier. Basic story is a formerly evil sorceror who was spared and brought into the light by another paladin. Think it might be interesting to play a risen evil rather than a fallen good. Somewhat jaded by his experiences but wanting to give everyone a fair shot at changing their ways.

Question: What are you feelings for the Paladin(Redeemer) archetype for races other than Half-Orc? Eyeing Human, Elf, Suli, Tiefling (my favorite for this), and Hobgoblin (close second).

I don't think I want to start swapping out archetype requirements, that seems like an even more slippery slope than allowing 3rd party. But the risen evil idea is interesting.

MiniGm, I sent you a PM.

Vixen:
Got it, story/background is good. Please continue with the build

PM sent MiniGM

Looks like you have Meera under the right heading.

The well built and well toned woman walks confidently into the room. Good, solid leather boots buckle upto her mid-thigh. A wide belt tops sturdy leather pants. She wears a light leather vest over a well cut shirt and as she folds her arms -the leather of her long, fingerless gloves creaking softly as she does so. A silk bandana (Of no particular gang colours) holds back her mane of rich, dark hair.

She eyes the Goblin and other Human. Her attitude is not dismissive, but that of calculation and evaluation. She simply nods to both and waits, moving to casually lean against a wall.

Davor's Submission:

Just need to get my Familiar Stats, then I'm good to go.

Grand Lodge

The goblin eyes the newcomer for signs of a nose and, upon seeing that she has one, looks somewhat crestfallen. Appears to think, possibly about asking if she is missing some other singular body part or paired body parts, but thinks better of it.

Meera shifts under the Goblin's scrutiny.

"So, seems as if a few folks found that scrap of paper..." She says by way of introduction.

EDIT: Duly noted Master MiniGM. Post removed. *Bows*

Hey all

Please dont post in the gameplay yet. I just put that up so it is ready to go when I make selections later.

Recruitment will close on Friday at noon PST

All good Meera, I was coming over here to post that, and got distracted

However if people want to play around like Meera and Harte have a blast, I can certainly pick out submissions

Meera:
Looks Good!

Shadow Lodge

Hullo,

Party role is primarily going to be a front-line fighter. Big blue-skinned lizard-dinosaur with a falchion and a lotta strength. Plus some buffs and other arcane spells.

If you'd like I can show you a character sheet I made for another game at the same level. It would be a little different but mainly the same.

*Bows* To Master MiniGM. Thank you sir.

Nathaniel:
It's ok Nathaniel, I think I have the gist of him now

Eva:
Looks pretty good, why Grenadier alchemist as melee type? Why not Rage chemist or something like that? Not a critique just a curiosity with the low Dex

MiniGM wrote:
** spoiler omitted **

The Grenadier gets an ability that lets her add alchemical items to weapon attacks, i.e., Alchemists Fire + Earthbreaker, or with a dagger to help up the damage against foes with DR.

Plus, they get a short-range conical ability, too, which would make sense with a melee type. Low dex fit her character.

Plus, I think it's unclear as to whether or not I can apply my bomb admixtures to a weapon, so I figured I'd leave that option up to you.

Whew. Took longer than I anticipated.

Without further ado, I now present: Tarragon. An ironborn oracle. It was a lot of fun to create. I look forward to seeing if he makes the cut.

Moff Vixen:
If selected I would love to know something about his creator, even though he is dead, could be a hook later on

MiniGM wrote:

What sort of info are you looking for?

moff:
just details on his plot, how far reaching was it? And briefly who was he? This way perhaps there can be a tie to him later on...just looking for a few possible hooks

Hmm, let me see about that. I will do some fleshing out on that. I will post an update when I have more.

it can wait if you want till selection.

Sounds good. It would definitely give me some time to think about that in the meantime. I look forward to selection time!

Alright, so I have done the crunch on my Oread. Ehad Tsur still needs the background, He is very unorthodox for an Oread. Rather than stand still as a rock, Ehad is a tad more fluid (Janni Style and Flowing Monk).

Hey Rameth :p I'd like to submit this knife master rogue. If I got in I would level her up to 5 and mess around with the fluff. I've also got a concept, but no build yet for a human Evangelist Cleric of Cayden Cailean who goes around proclaiming the good news of beer.

Dark Archive

Finally got the crunch done. I used some of my money to buy more spells is that alright?

Hereldlon:
, that is fine

I'd like to be considered, I'm working on an Urban Druid (first idea, I may tweak that), I'll post story and numbers tomorrow. This sounds like an excellent opportunity!

Interested - I have Garrick Thorne, an Oracle of Life that can fill that divine position. :)

Garrick Thorne Background:
Raised in the village of Abken, Garrick never truly felt like an outsider (even though, among the town some considered him such). He had arrived near to town as a young boy of 8, face covered in blood and barely alive. As the farmer who found him cleaned him up, he found two astonishing things. First, even though the boy looked human for the most part, there were a couple of indications that he had orcish blood in him. Second, the boy had been injured, not by a fall as the farmer first thought, but by an edged blade which had cut a gash from the middle of his forehead down diagonally to the side of his neck. When the boy recovered days later, he didn't speak of what had happened, but began working about the farm earning his keep. In time, the farmer began to think fondly of the boy, even considering him his own son.

As the boy grew, it became apparent that his injury had dulled his thinking processes, by he showed a well above average amount of awareness about his surroundings, intuition and willpower. He also showed a good deal of physical strength, but his hand-eye coordination seemed to suffer as well. Once in his mid teens however, Garrick's path changed dramatically.

While he and his family were always devout followers of Sarenrae, Garrick himself questioned whether being devout to only one diety was the correct thing. Was there not many different races and philosophies out there in the world? For nearly a year, he pondered this. The thing that turned his path to service instead of growing plants was when, late in the day after getting supplies from town, Garrick watched a young girl wander into the street in the path of a runaway wagon loaded with wood. Without hesitation Garrick grabbed the child and threw her clear, but himself was trampled under the horse and wagon. For the second time in his life he hovered between life and death. It was at this time, according to Garrick when he recovered, that Sarenrae herself appeared to him and told him that his destiny lie not with her, but with all life. She laid her hands on him in his fevered state and he remembered nothing more than a glow that surrounded him.

After he awoke, it became obvious to most that something had changed for the young man. While he walked with a limp that magic could not seem to cure, something about his personality seemed so much stronger than even the priests of the town. When he learned that he had injured the girl while saving her, Garrick visited with her and, somehow knowing what needed done, laid his hands upon her shoulders and spoke a prayer to the god and goddesses to heal her. To everyone's surprise, it worked and the girl and he family thanked him. Knowing that he had to learn more about his gifts, and hearing rumors of a new, grand temple being built in Sandpoint, Garrick journeyed to Windsong Abbey to study for a couple of years. While there, he was a slow study, but he learned much of the divine blessings he'd been gifted with.

Shortly before the completion of the temple in Sandpoint, he began receiving dreams of a city he knew as Absalom and of something dangerous under it. Knowing that it was his diety's wish, he began his journey to the city, facing many dangers along the way but arriving with a newfound strength and experience to face the dangers of the city.

Oooh. Two oracles. Yours with with life and mine with battle. Mmm. I like it!

I am unsure as to what the DM specifically would like by way of back story for Meera beyond which I've already outlined.

Meera:
You are fine, it is pretty complete I just was putting out there that there are lots of good submissions some with more or less story filled in, and with the deadline made I wanted to remind everyone to make sure it is filled in, as that is where hooks will be coming from, and to me is more important than the build itself.

That's why I have am in the habit of making a background and then tailoring the crunch to suit it. That's how I came up with the battle oracle. I am really liking it a lot. Once you have a story, then the sky is the limit.

I like the way you think. I wish more players would do that when making a character. It makes things a lot more fun both in game and in character. Mmmmm. I look forward to seeing the selection process with the current lineup.

Developing a character through interaction with others developing characters is one of the great unique things about this sort of game, and one of the highlights for me. Finding who gets along, who doesn't, rivalries, etc.

I prefer to do that as well with a character. I have a bit of an idea as to class and a bit of an idea as to story, then as I write the story with the class in mind the archetype, spells, etc comes out.

Kracow brushes bits of mud and debris from some dark place. His clothes are more testament to his history than any words he could say.

M'Lord is ... well you'll see. I need take care of business for a bit. When we meet again, we all will know more.

Kracow nods and leaves as unassumingly as he appeared.

I am assuredly going Arcane/Paladin, working on deciding race, fleshing out backstory, and getting all the crunchy goodness. I have a backstory outline done, just writing it has been taking a little longer than expected. Run down is a formerly powerful and monstrously evil mage who was toying with extraplanar powers and was stopped by a party of adventurers, after being shown the error of his ways by the group pally he stripped himself of most of his powers and took up the divine calling. To add a little more I'm thinking this was a complete paradigm shift from C/E to L/G and he has been in Absalom a few months after traveling around do-gooding and such. Almost certainly of Chelish ancestry and possibly a Hellknight (relearning about the orders and seeing if any is appropriate, its been a while since GMing CoT).

And sometimes when you're flipping through the books for good crunch, something catches your eye and changes the entire character concept...

I've changed my idea slightly, instead of a human urban druid, she's going to be a grippli menhir druid, because I had an idea for a background while I was flipping through the books and saw the grippli...

Background Story: (not the best editing but I wanted to get it in under the deadline - crunch to follow):

Once upon a time there was a dashing and handsome grippli prince who adventured throughout the swamp righting wrongs and doing good deeds. One day he came upon an old grippli woman by the path who was weeping and rending her clothes.

"Why are you crying grandmother?" asked the prince, who was moved to great emotion upon seeing her tears.

Stifling her sobs and sniffling she told him her tale, "Good prince, my granddaughter has been taken from me and she's barely older than a polliwog. An evil human hag has beguiled her and kidnapped her away." Unable to control her weeping any longer, she sobbed for a while and struggled to regain her composure. Finally, between sobs, she continued, "And more horribly she turned her into an ugly, dry-skinned human girl with *hair* the color of gold, skin the color of disgusting milk, and *blue* eyes of all things. The color of vile clear water, not our beautiful, stagnant swamp water."

Aghast, the prince said, "Grandmother! That is a dreadful tale and if it is possible to break this curse and rescue your granddaughter, I pledge I will do it!"

"Thank you good prince! I am lucky the fates led you to find me in my most desperate hour. I know the key to freeing her and you are the only one who can do it, although the task is not pleasant."

"Tell me please dear grandmother for I will do anything to rescue your granddaughter from this hideous fate."

With renewed hope, the old woman stopped her crying and told the prince how to free her granddaughter, "I have gone to the hag's hovel in that scary, dry and sunny forest to spy upon my poor enslaved granddaughter forced serve the old witch. One day, while my granddaughter was out tending the evil woman's sheep, the hag had a visitor, another evil enchantress. While talking, the vile hag told her that the only way to free my granddaughter from this awful fate was for a grippli prince to kiss her!" As she finishes, tears well up in her eyes as she recalls her granddaughter's enforced servitude.

"Loving grandmother, I shall take it upon myself to do this task, freeing your granddaughter. Even though kissing a human is reputed to remove our beautiful warts, it will be a small price to be disfigured if your granddaughter will once again be a beautiful grippli. I will return with her as quickly as possible." He mounted his magnificent lizard steed and headed off towards the scary depths of the dry, sunny forest.

He soon came upon the hag's house and saw the poor girl doing chores and he indeed saw that she'd been transformed into a most dreadful creature, she had a small mouth, a miniscule tongue, blue eyes, white, wartless skin, and golden *hair* growing from her head. He steeled himself for the odious task ahead of kissing her and thought, "It shouldn't be too hard to convince her to let me kiss her, I've been told I'm very handsome and quite charming, many beautiful grippli women want to kiss me."

He hopped toward her confidently with a splash as he left the pool of stagnant water he'd been sitting in and said to her,

"Come to me, my princess dear,
Be free! Kiss thy true love here!"

As he slowly hopped back to his pool, he wondered at her reaction, "Why did she scream like that and run into the hut, slamming the door? Doesn't she want to be free of that ugly body and back to her slick and slimy one?"

Thinking about it further, he realized, "Ah yes! The old grandmother said she didn't remember who she was! I shall have to sneak into the hovel under cloak of darkness, avoid the evil enchantments of the hag and kiss her in her sleep."

Night came and the prince sneaked into the house, starting at the old witch's snoring. He came upon the ensorceled girl lying in scratchy dry sheets instead of on damp leaves or a lily pad, he thought, "One kiss, even though like this you are hideously ugly, and I will return you to the fair swamp, far away from this hell."

Bending over, he closed his eyes, steeled himself, and kissed her upon the lips.

She felt the cold, wet lips upon hers and awoke, when she saw the prince sitting on her bed, she screamed. As she screamed the old woman ran into the room, the scream slowly turned into a long, drawn out croak as her skin turned green, her mouth broadened, her eyes bulged and turned yellow, and she shrunk, turning into an incredibly beautiful grippli.

"What have you done to me! You vile frog!" she croaked out.

"I have freed you from the evil spell laid upon you by this witch!" he replied.

"A witch! She's not a witch! She's my..." the beautiful grippli princess started to say, but the prince, seeing the old woman grab a broom and prepare to swat him realized the enchantment on the poor girl's mind had not faded yet. Ignoring her cries, he grabbed her, threw her over his shoulder and hopped as fast as he could out of the hut and onto his fast, magnificent steed, which slithered off quickly toward the swamp.

Screaming, "Let me go you hideous frog!" the entire way bent over the front of his saddle, kicking her heels; the girl struggled against the strong prince's firm grip.

"Do not fear, soon the evil spell on you will cease and you will remember who you really are," he said to her as he pulled up rein where the old grippli had been by the side of the path.

"I wonder where your grandmother has gone," he remarked, looking about into the gloomy swamp trying to see her.

"My grandmother?" said the enchanted girl, her webbed hands on her hips as she looked at him sternly, "You just stole me out of my grandmother's house in the middle of the night!"

"But I do not understand, the old grippli told me you were her transformed granddaughter, turned from a beautiful grippli into that hideous human by the evil hag you lived with. And that a kiss would free you!" he explained to the still addled girl who's tongue at that moment reflexively darted out to catch a passing fly, causing her to gulp in surprise as she swallowed it.

Spitting and wiping her mouth she yelled, "You idiot! That old grippli has been trying to get rid of us for years! She keeps bemoaning that we built our home in the middle of prime fly growing land. Well, I'm off to find a way to reverse this curse, good night and good riddance to you!" She hopped off back towards the forest.

"Too bad the spell still affects her mind, otherwise I would wed her and she would be the most beautiful princess in the world," sadly thought the prince.

And the prince lived perplexed ever after.

--------------

Since then, Princess Rose (name subject to change), as she calls herself, has traveled to Absalom in search of someway to free her from this curse. By day, she searches the city wild-shaped into the form of a dog or cat and spends the nights in the sewers or other dark, damp places. (This solves the problem of being a 'monster' in the city - she blends into the day to day animals that exist in the city.)

BTW Kracow is the player already in the game, and the one that you will all be joining. So that is why he is not on the list :)

I'd like to introduce Princess Rose and her Velociraptor (mount/companion) named Thorn. All of the crunch is in her profile. She has a hat of human disguise that allows her to look like a small human child (as Disguise Self) and she can wild shape if she needs to to blend in further.

I have an alternate build for her with the Weather domain and no companion if that would fit the campaign better.

hehe, Weather might fit better, but I personally like the raptor. I'm interesting in reading how said raptor was acquired.
