"Ah, thank you so much! I'll make sure to remember it next time, sorry about the interruption." As she speaks, bowing her head repeatedly in shame, she picks out a nice green set from Grant's box, nicely matching the forest green case of her tablet.
========
Erthriel smiles and laughs along at the old crone's "joke", but her wandering gaze does stop on the vials. In a similar jocular tone, she replies, pretending to be deep in thought: "Hmm...perhaps one of these could help with that? Or keep me alive until I can?" Dropping the awkward joke, she asks more directly (but still in a light manner): "So, what have you got here?"

Augrer Gredrist |

Pausing to pull a large red can from his pack, the young biker starts chugging. After a few seconds of drinking, he lets it hang from his hand. Leaning back, Jay's brows bunches together. "Yeah, but that's the point. You shouldn't have to worry about the pally, and be free to play what you want." Snorting at the comment of the dice, he adds, "That may just be a double crit fail fight."
At his resultant 20, Jay raises a finger. "I retract that statement."
_____________
Loosening his grip on his weapon, Augrer reaches into his armor and pulls out a single gold coin. "Here then, take this. You need it more than I do." Tossing it to the urchin and shooing the child away, the holy warrior turns to the woman with an inquisitive gaze before sighing. "You'll find the Regency and I do not agree on some tenets of Temerious."
Chuckling darkly, Augrer gestures to the marketplace. "Surely you can come up with a better lie than that? The people here associate my worship with conquerors, and have no desire to engage me. You don't seem any more fond of my choice of god either." Tapping the head of his hammer against his buckler, Augrer smiles. "I'm here to do good. Justice and fairness and all the aspects of faith that lead people to believe. What else would a wandering holy man do?"

Aeshelia Breeze |

Dan Laughs."NO worries character conflicts can be fun if handled right, besides I am having fun already" He says with a wide smile.
"Now lets have some fun shall we."
-------------------
Aeshelia smiles slightly as she narrows her eyes. She shifts her position and laughs."Well, now a Fair Temerite!!!" She gasps a bit mockingly letting her hand cover her feign shock."I shall believe it when I see it, Which means holy man I am watching you!" She says as she walks past giggling as she looks for some people to talk to about Cyanthia.

GM Infamous Wes |

"Enough," Torek growls. "Your mouth is outrunning you, boy. I've got your commission, and you'll have your precious book by the end of the day." The orc turns back to you with an apology written all over his face. "Zanessa, Kaden... go enjoy the market. If you still want to help your old Torek, you can keep an eye out for unusual items I could use in the upcoming auction."
DC16 Perception check to identify. You can taste-test each one individually.
She adds in a hushed tone, "Those Regency whelps may be out to ban magic, but they can't stop me from turning a profit from someone else's work!"
The leader, a middle-aged man sporting a handsome salt-and-pepper beard, approaches Augrer and bows. "I see we are not the only believers in this place. I am Javier, and my associates and I have come from Castle Ein to discuss the peaceful integration of Adelveldt into the Regency."
Can attempt a Sense Motive check to discern if Javier speaks the truth.

Zanessa |

Whitney rolls her eyes at the way Dan is playing a woman, but says nothing.
Along those lines, she wonders whether Zanessa would obey Torek because she respects him, or whether she would stay because she wants to find out about the book. Hard call, but she feels like she definitely wants to make it clear that Zanessa is an adult with a brain.
_____
Zanessa glances at Kaden to see if he wants to leave.
Torek, we're not children. Just tell us what is going on. What kind of book would people say doesn't exist? Besides, we came here to meet you.
She lowers her voice so that no one but the four of them can hear.
It's about magic, isn't it? I can go find someplace unobserved and cast detect magic if you are looking for something like that, or need things like that for your auction.

GM Infamous Wes |

Kaden looks intent on staying, having inherited his father's quiet intensity and penchant for follow-through.
Torek seems loath to impart any more information, but Bertram quickly jumps in. "It's a journal. It looks normal on the outside, but it's enchanted and very difficult to decipher. I can't tell you much more - just know that it's extremely important to our history."
Can attempt Knowledge (History or Local) check. Untrained check is fine in this situation.
Torek adds, "Bertram and I have some mutual acquaintances who've been searching for this journal for a long time. Unfortunately, so have the Regency. They're probably skulking around as we speak, hoping to seize it for themselves." Like most Adelveldtians, there's no love lost between Torek and the Regency, but the force of the snarl in his voice is almost enough to make you believe his grudge is personal.

Zanessa |

Whitney looks up at Grant. I have a plus 8 on both knowledge skills, so either one. I'll just roll it. She plucks a black/green die from her group of d20s and lets go... and then smiles. That should do it, right?
_____
Knowledge: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
Well, the Regency hate me for something I can't even control, so it isn't like I'm going to take their side. You think it is here, in the market, or somewhere else?

GM Infamous Wes |

"We know the journal is being held by someone who hates the Regency as much as we do, but they've remained anonymous and only delivered messages through middlemen so far," Bertram says. "They were planning on delivering the book to us during the auction by hiding it inside a dwarven rug."
"The catch," Torek adds, "is that we won't know which one until the messenger points it out for us. It's all very subtle since we don't want the Regency finding out." The orc looks displeased with the plan for obvious reasons.

Augrer Gredrist |

Hearing Grant describe the Regency Jay whistles."Wow. Now I see why people dislike the Regency." Shaking his head, he downs the rest of his drink before starting his turn.

Watching the kid dart away, Augrer's eyes quickly lock onto the other Temerites. Bowing stiffly in response, the paladin raises an eyebrow at the comment. "Peaceful acceptance is not how I believe such an action would go over."

Aeshelia Breeze |

"Great my luck proceeds me even here? Hopefully I can go unnoticed!" Dan says laughing at the fact he now had his character basically within earshot of more Regency members.
--------------------
Aeshelia curses under her breath as she walks away from the group wanting to distance herself before she would have to deal with the likes of the Regency. She didn't want to fight four on one because she doubted the one she was talking too would stick up for her.
So she left them and headed gingerly over to another group of people in hopes of joining in with them and avoiding the Regency goons altogether.

Zanessa |

Zanessa addresses Torek:
Quite a catch. That isn't a very good plan, and no way to make it easier unless we buy all the dwarven rugs. Which I'm guessing we don't have the coin to do. Do you know anything about the messenger? Why would they risk telling you which it is in public rather than just contacting you privately?

GM Infamous Wes |

Make a Perception check, please.
Torek interjects, "I'm still convinced they're going to try something soon. The market is the perfect cover. We can't go in expecting everything to work perfectly."

Erthriel |

Olivia takes a moment scrolling through her tablet, looking for something. "Oh, found it. Can I, uh...'take 10' on that perception check?"

Augrer Gredrist |

"A man can only judge wisely based on what he sees." Blowing out a pent up breath, Augrer bows properly this time, forming a sharp 90 degree angle. Lifting his torso upwards, the paladin dips his head. "I was indeed, though the high council neglected to inform me of others in the area. My apologies."
Bluff: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (17) - 1 = 16

Zanessa |

Whitney smiles at Olivia's question, and is pleased that Aeshelia and Augrer both seem to be solidly anti-Regency. That would make their party a little bit less contentious. She wonders how Grant is going to pull them all together. So far, this seemed fun and like it was going to work.
After saying the bit about Kaden she asks Hey Grant, can I play two characters? Kaden could be a good meat shield maybe. He's the strong, silent type. I've never really played a fighter type, but I bet I could come up with something good.
____
Zanessa asks Torek What do you think they will try?
We're with you, whatever it is.
She doesn't have to glance at Kaden to know that he would agree to that.

GM Infamous Wes |

Grant only needs to take a moment to consider Olivia’s question. “Sure! You’re not threatened or in a rush, so taking 10 will be fine.”
=====
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 23
After reaching his conclusion, he replies, “Yes, I believe the ’high council’ had a brief lapse in oversight.” With a curt wave, he motions for the other men to follow. “If you can be of further assistance, do not hesitate to reach out. May Temerious guide your hand.” The trio depart immediately, leaving you to your own devices.
Torek grunts. “They’re snakes. They’ll slither around until they find a clue, and then sink their fangs into whoever they please to find it.”
“Allow me to elaborate,” Bertram says. His wide-eyed enthusiasm screams ‘conspiracy theorist’. “The Regency will track down the journal secretly and attempt to steal it from the owner before they can deliver it to us. They’ll also have assigned someone to watch the auction as a contingency. If you’re going to help, let us handle the Temerians while you look for Ollie and grab the journal.”
“The auction isn’t until the first evening bell. We have a while to wait.” Torek is far from the sentimental type, but as he looks at you and Kaden, he seems more than proud. “Looking at you, young-bloods, I have a bit more hope for our future.”
=====
Grant has to take a bit longer with Whitney’s question. “I know it would run similarly to playing a pregen in Society, but I’m not sure. We could try to figure it out before our next session.”

Aeshelia Breeze |

Dan looks over at Whitney."Running two characters can be fun if you can pull it off. I myself don't do so well unless it's with an already established character. Like one I've played before but either retired or the game fizzled out."
--------------
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
Aesheila notes she is being observed and continues trying to just blend in.By heading over to look at some fabric.
"Do you have any thicker cloth, looking to make a traveling coat for an elderly man. He has the worst shakes in the winter"

Augrer Gredrist |

Shrugging, Jay grunts noncommittally at the idea of two characters. "It's sixes to me." Forming a surface with his hands, the young male slips into thought. Man, I had no idea I'd be starting this much trouble picking the war hammer god just for the hammer. Though it does make the whole paladin thing work better.
___________
Returning their blessing with his own "May Temerious guide your hand," Augrer watches the group leave before turning to find the woman from before. Searching for her, the holy warrior's thoughts drift back in time. Amazing how divisive a single community can be. Standing a decent distance behind her, the paladin coughs.

Erthriel |

"Great! Then I'll do that." Seeing as she hasn't really even got playing one character quite down yet, she obviously has no idea how doing two at once would even work.
================
Erthriel smiles at the woman's comment, nodding along knowingly. Before she can take a taste, though, she's momentarily distracted by the crowd behind her, but as whatever's going on seems to move away, she returns her focus to the vials, studying them quickly.
As agreed on, take 10 on perception for an 18.

Zanessa |

Looking at her companions, Zanessa says Well, if we have some time, let's get some of that fried bread and sit down and talk further. I am famished.
... and I do want to look at the bows she says. I know I can't afford a really sweet one, but I still like to drool over them all the same.
______
Whitney nods at Grant's offer. Okay. Let me know when you have some free time this next week and we can get together and talk about it.
We didn't really establish anything about Grant and Whitney earlier. I was assuming she had been to his house before and knew she was welcome when I had her walk in without knocking, but I don't know if they have been on a date yet or what... so this is kind of a straight offer, but the idea of spending time together is also an end in itself.
Whitney responds to Dan with I've never played two at once, but I do play in several games, so I'm used to switching off. Could be cool for teamwork feats as well maybe.
She looks around at everyone.
If you guys are against it, totally don't have to do it, but I have this kind of blank-slate half-orc brother standing around with me, so I thought, hey, make him into something. If you guys have suggestions about what we need in the party, we could customize him a little. He has to know the bow because he and Zanessa learned it from his dad, and he is definitely a half-orc, but everything else is flexible.
...Or, I guess if Grant knows someone, or you guys do, we could invite in an actual person to play him. I didn't really think of that, but that would also work.

Augrer Gredrist |

Glancing at his character sheet, Jay pauses. "I've got tank down, I sacrificed lay on hands for a really helpful self heal after kills." Grabbing some snacks, he adds, "Maybe a rogue type? Wouldn't hurt to have a skill monkey about, and the more stabby types, the faster combat ends."

GM Infamous Wes |

"Teamwork feats would be pretty cool to see," Grant admits. "I'm okay with you running two characters as long as the rest of the party has no objections, which you guys don't seem to have. I can put out some feelers and see if a fifth player would be interested in picking up Kaden as their PC, but either way, we'll figure it out once we're done with tonight's session. If you want to swing by on Saturday, we can grab lunch and work out the details."
=====
A young girl with a shaggy haircut pops up from behind the cart. "Hiya! I'm Olivia, but my friends call me trouble. Lookin' for somethin' thick, are ya? I might have just what ya need." She beams at you and starts rummaging around on the side, giving you ample time to ogle the clothing, fabric, and rugs for sale.
One noticeable difference is that the nasty looks have mostly stopped coming your way. Your attempt at standing up to the Temerian ambassadors, short-lived though it was, may have struck a chord with the locals. It's too early to tell what the effect may be, but you've taken a step toward gaining their trust.
"Since you're a sharp one, I can part with them for 20 gold coins each," the old woman says. "That's with the discount for getting on my good side!" She cackles again, appearing to enjoy your company much more than you would expect. "Of course, these are far from my only wares, so if something else catches your fancy..."
The food vendors are much more affordable than the rest of the caravan, and you can pick up a snack for five copper apiece. A gnome with a shock of frazzled pink hair prepares your fried bread right in front of you, his grinning, larger-than-life likeness painted on the gigantic wooden sign on top of his cart. "Here you go, tall ones! Three of Tupanuck's finest Fried-Food-On-Sticks!" He dances a little jig after being paid and waves goodbye as you leave. "Spread the word! Tupanuck Liftwick is gonna be HUGE someday!"

Augrer Gredrist |

"I didn't just miss a plot hook did I?"
________
I need to figure out what's going on here. There is a hostility towards the Regency here, and that woman from before is probably the only person who will tell me anything about it. Moving next to her, careful to not bump into anyone or any wares, the Temerite loudly clears his throat, announcing his presence. "I don't suppose you'd be willing to enlighten me as to my fellows?"

Aeshelia Breeze |

"Whitney if you think you can pull off two Characters more power to you!" Dan says reaching over to grab another taco and eating it.
----------------------------------------------
Aesheila smiled."Nice to meet you Olivia I am Aeshelia. As for the Trouble I have been known to have been called that myself, especially by my father" She said as she watched the woman go over and look through the fabric.
"I am looking to make a Long coat, preferably a rich earthy color so I can later do some embroidery"As she looks about the other items and raises her brow.
"I'm Curious are you a new fabric and tailor group? I know many from my years working for my Father Xiath Yashedran, from the Azure Rose group. Your logo is new and your work seems a bit reminiscent of Joule-de-Mar. Who has beautiful pieces"

Olivia gives a little shrug as Whitney asks about her plans, then chuckles a little as Grant introduces a new character that shares her name. So far this game is certainly surpassing her (admittedly low) expectations.
================
Erthriel can't hide the disappointment in her eyes as the woman names her price - twice as much as what she's got on hand. Putting on her best sorrowful smile, she says softly, "I'm afraid I don't make enough gold for these". She adds with a chuckle, "I'm sure that little boy that tried to pickpocket me would have been disappointed".

Zanessa |

Whitney smiles at the mention of Saturday and says Perfect; I'll be here.
As she listens to the description of what is happening with the other characters, she wonders if the Olivia character that Aeshelia is interacting with is the "Ollie" that her character needs to find later. Might be a good clue.
____
As Bertram bows before leaving, she catches his arm and says in a low voice Wait, before you go... what is the agreed-upon signal?
After Bertram leaves, Zanessa enjoys time with her family and relishes the inexpensive and delicious food, even buying an extra portion from Tupanuck to split with Kaden despite needing to save for a bow.
She laughs at Tupanuk's request and says loudly for his benefit, and clearly audible to all passers-by, Wow, this food from Tupanuk's Fried Food on Sticks is delicious. Maybe even the best I've ever had! And so inexpensive!
Kaden tries not to choke as he laughs.

GM Infamous Wes |

"Jay, I set this game up so you'd be swimming in plot hooks. All you have to do is pick which one to bite." Grant taps the side of his head knowingly before continuing the scenarios.
=====
Augrer's arrival elicits a quirked eyebrow from the girl as she looks your clothing up and down. "Fresh out the stables, yeah? You lookin' to clean up and make somethin' of ya'self?" She reaches into one of the cabinets on the cart and pulls out a tunic that's nice enough to fetch a good price, but still obviously made for peasants.
Your endorsement for Tupanuck's food stand is enough to draw a small crowd. Between his cheerful attitude and utter joy at making sales, you think it's very likely that he'll succeed and if franchises existed in this world, he'd be one of them. In the meantime, you, Kaden, and Torek still have the afternoon to while away as you wait for the auction to start. The auctioneer's platform is still being set up by several of the caravan's attendants, though a parchment bearing the list of items for sale has been pinned to a stake next to the platform's frame.

Zanessa |

The swan? thinks Zanessa, wondering what form that will take.
After eating, Zanessa suggests
We should probably look around, especially at stalls selling Dwarven rugs I would think.
When they see that the list of items for sale at the auction is up, Zanessa goes over to get a better look, wondering if it would have the seller listed along with the items so they knew where to look, and exactly how many dwarven rugs there would be.

Augrer Gredrist |

Nibbling at a taco, Jay looks relieved. "Oh thank goodness."
____________
Picking at his rough hewn tunic, Augrer shakes his head. "I appreciate your offer, but I'm not in the market for clothes." Tapping at his scale mail, the paladin smiles. "Besides, I hardly think stable hands walk around in armor."
Tapping the elf on the shoulder, Augrer maintains his smile. "You know, it's came to me I'm a tad bit ignorant of the locale. I don't suppose you'd be willing to enlighten me?"

Erthriel is surprised by the woman's sudden change, but smiles at the message she gives. "I'll make sure to come find you next time, then", she says, while checking to make sure her coin purse is still there...
As long as we're not drowning in plot hooks! :P

GM Infamous Wes |

Fair enough. I don't expect you guys to chase after every little thread of the story, but I do want to provide enough material to keep things interesting and to give you plenty of opportunities to interact with the world.
Torek seems to be keeping a close eye on everyone you come across. Ever since the meeting with Bertram, you've been seeing a different side to the old orc - tense, wary, with the air of a predator who has become prey. It's a far cry from the blacksmith's usually calm and steady demeanor, and makes him seem more like his kin than ever before.
Trying not to push too hard until Aeshelia's had a chance to post a response.
Having only just entered the market a short while ago, you still have plenty of time to shop around, or you can find some other way to pass the time.

Zanessa |

I just thought the plot hook line was meant to be funny, because you are throwing us a lot of them. No worries. Interesting to try to fit the pieces together.
Zanessa notes the names of the weavers and guilds, and starts visiting any of their stalls or shops set up here in the market area.

Aeshelia Breeze |

Aeshelia looks at the Paladin and rolls her eyes. She, however, laughed as she looked at Olivia."I do like some of them, did you do the work or did your dad only allow you to finish the stitch? My old man used to the same thing until I finally showed him this amazing dress. Low cut back that draped from around the front." She said as she smiles.
"Wait, Are you saying that you don't need better clothes! To two seamstresses?" She laughs and then shakes her head. "I am gonna have to change your mind, and your fashion sense."She said as she looked back to Olivia.
"So Olivia, maybe I should dress this guy up? What do you think he would look good in?"

Augrer Gredrist |

Jay laughs. "Dan, the goal isn't to teach the paladin fashion. I think looking attractive outside naturally chiseled jawlines is banned by the 'Paladin Rules'." Tossing finger quotes around his last words, the young man pauses in mock thought. "Gotta remember, oh mighty and excellent DM, paladins bite the most obvious hooks, namely orphans and the plight of the poor."
____________
Chuckling awkwardly, the paladin rubs the back of his neck. "I'm a Temerite, but I'm not a part of the Regency." Pausing, Augrer holds up a hand. "Taxes? But Adelveldt isn't part of the Regency, that Javier fellow was here to discuss integration." Life was easier when I was just a peasant boy with a small shrine, not sorting out the excess of my religon and its actions..
At Aeshelia's remark, the paladin's brow furrows. "But I don't. My current clothes keep me warm and covered. Why would I get better clothes if they're just going to get filthy and torn? I can use that gold to help others, like the boy." With a questioning inspection, he adds, "You're more than just a seamstress, no offense intended. It's a respectable profession." He holds his hands out in supplication to Olivia, weathered palms out.

GM Infamous Wes |

So many plot hooks, I keep putting them through my thumbs by accident...
"As much as I love clichés and well-worn conventions, I'm trying to avoid some of the obvious story traps in this one. I don't mind getting a little cheesy here and there - it's just gotta be done in moderation."
=====
Even though the vendor is a listed guild member, all of his products look haphazardly arranged and don't match; every article of clothing, piece of furniture, and random trinket seems to have come from a different set, with no underlying theme to his stock. The dwarven vendor manning the cart wears a wide-brimmed hat and a fine set of clothes, with bejeweled rings adorning his thick fingers. "Good day, friends! Come to ogle at the fortunes of the great Grumdil Grindstone?" Torek looks mistrustful of the dwarf, but Grumdil pays him no mind.
Aeshelia's suggestion elicits a snicker from the young apprentice. "Oh, yeah! Maybe he needs a nice smock to keep people from making a mess all over his posh manners."

Zanessa |

Grumdil! Finally I find you among all of these other lesser merchants. Can you show me what you are offering at the auction?

Zanessa |

Zanessa picks out a random trinket (a shiny, silver turtle?) and asks Grumdil about it.
______
Whitney tells Grant that she is trying to get a sense of who this guy is, and is planning on asking about several things, so that it seems casual, working her way up to a rug, then to something else, etc. so if he wants to skip ahead to the highlights he can.
Things like, does he let anything slip about being pro or con on the Regency, or does he know anything about his merchandise? Is it fairly priced? (Should I roll for that?)
Also, what exactly is illegal with regard to magic? Magic items are okay to trade, but just not magic practice? I'm not sure whether Zanessa should ask about magical items or not.

Erthriel |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

As she leaves the old woman's stall, Erthriel suddenly notices her stomach starting to growl - she hasn't eaten all morning, being too focused on her work. Ordinarily she'd have some of her homemade elven bread, but the caravans often have more exotic options. As she looks around, she hears a woman shouting something about fried food on sticks; the elf heads out that way while still looking around for other things that she could buy.

GM Infamous Wes |

Should the party prefer it, we can move things along to the time of the auction itself, or we can continue with the RP you've all got going. I'm enjoying myself either way, so I leave that decision to you.

GM Infamous Wes |

I shouldn't be pushing you guys along - the pace is yours to set.
"I can see I was right about that eye of yours," Grumdil says with a smug smile on his heavily bearded face. "Made that one myself back in Finnfrith, and it's been with me on the road for about thirty years now. I'd say... it's worth a hundred and fifty, that one." He nods sagely at his own estimate, and given the relative lack of similar mechanisms in Adelveldt, it's difficult to tell how much the music box's true worth would be.

Augrer Gredrist |

"Temerious sounds like a god of puppy kicking rather justice."
______
Coughing, Augrer shakes his head. "No, I'm afraid you're incorrect." At the manners comment, the paladin starts snickering, before doubling over in laughter. "Me, posh manners. Oh by Temerious's hammer that is hilarious." Straightening and wiping a tear from his eye, the dirty faced paladin chuckles. "I must be quite the posh stable boy eh."

Aeshelia Breeze |

"Nice I shall think of Temerious as the kicker of puppies!"Dan chuckles as he then goes back into character.
--------------
"That's' what I like to see laughter. You sure you are a Temerite!"Aeshelia says with a smile."I doubt you are a mere stable boy. Besides, I saw how you handled those more jack booted members of your order." She says smiling.
"Also the clothes make the man, and everyone deserves a nice set of clothes, besides You never know when you'll need to speak to a lord or other affluent people?" She says with a smile.

At Grant's description of the smell, Olivia starts chuckling, unable to hold in her amusement. Her reservations about the game have mostly faded away, and she seems to be enjoying herself.
Sorry, I was too busy laughing my head off at that myself to post until now. Yeah, that's my excuse. :)
===============
Erthriel isn't usually one for such unhealthy food, but today she's in a good enough mood to wait in the extremely long line. This "fried food on sticks" must be really good (and inexpensive) for there to be so many people here.

GM Infamous Wes |

Glad you enjoyed that! I've been struggling with a nasty cold all week, so my head feels like a bag of cotton balls inside a trash compactor, but I managed to squeeze that little gem out of the creativity bank.
"That's for me to know and you to find out," Grant answers with a sinister little smile. "Then again, it's very possible that the Regency is just misusing the name of an honorable deity to do all the puppy-kicking themselves."
After a moment, he adds, "Don't forget that if you see something you want to change - or don't see something that you'd like in the game - you can make it happen. This is the first campaign using this setting, so there's a lot of wiggle room with the lore."

Zanessa |

Don't forget that if you see something you want to change - or don't see something that you'd like in the game - you can make it happen. This is the first campaign using this setting, so there's a lot of wiggle room with the lore.
Grant, I'm not a cleric in this game so it won't do any mechanical good, but I've always thought there should be a deity of ... well, bad things that turn into good things. Does that make any sense? I was thinking a god of forest fires, which cleanse and renew the forest and promote new growth... and the same things in people lives, like obstacles that you have to go through that make you stronger.
She looks around, embarrassed, wondering if she sounds too idealistic.
Anyway, I actually worked on coming up with something for a different game... maybe it would work for your realm, since you only have four deities? If not, no problem. Just an idea.
She pulls out a folded piece of scratch paper and hands it to Grant. If he takes a look he can see that she's written over lots of things and made notes and scratched out some things, but this is what he can make out:
Deity: Thorn [good name?]
Titles: The Cleansing Fire, God of the Forest
Alignment: Chaotic good
Portfolio Destruction, Renewal, Change, Repentance
Cleric Alignments
NG, CG, CN
Domains: Chaos, Plants, Fire, Strength (Self-Realization), Destruction (Catastrophe), Good (Redemption) should put in subdomains too... ash, decay...?
Favored Weapon: Bows (He wields a Thorn Bow (the one under specific magic weapons, not the one that says "treat a thorn bow as a short bow")) I guess an ash bow would also be thematic.
Thorn is basically the God of Forests, and Forest Fires, which are devastating, but which fertilize and feed the new growth of the forest and spark renewal. He represents change and growth, but also cleansing and destruction, and fights against corruption I don't know... corruption as in disease, not rot. Rot can help a garden by fertilizing it, but disease can kill a whole forest... is that the right word? and stagnation. Things that have life should be always changing and improving, giving way to new life.
