Oh I know. It's just that Tot's 6 CHA isn't entirely because she's abrasive. There's plenty of self-doubt in there too, especially lately.

![]() |

Well, I'm all caught up! Just waiting on a reply from the GM about the dimension I walked into, then I should be good to go.
Also, it's been a while, but do we roll for HP on leveling, or was it the PFS average?

Yasmin al Akbar |

I think it's PFS average... at least my HP is precisely average.

GM Zed |

Yes, everyone's HP is max at 1st level and then average rounded up for subsequent levels... I have PM'd Murassa a response to his question as to where he has been... and we'll get him caught up into the Gameplay thread quite quickly - in the meantime, I have just moved you along in the Gameplay Thread - welcome to Nicolas Logue's 'Pleasure Gardens'...

Yasmin al Akbar |

Zed probably needs to add you back as a "current" character and not a "former" character for you to appear on the campaign tab. That's not an answer to your question unfortunately--I don't really know how to do that.

Titania Olivia Thrune |

There should be a link at the bottom of the page that says unhide all. That should get it to appear if Zed already added you back. I had a similar issue with another game and that fixed it

Yasmin al Akbar |

Dot the gameplay thread if you haven't.

Yasmin al Akbar |

Try one more time now that you're back on the current character list. It's worth a shot, anyway.

Yasmin al Akbar |

Is there a level 13 map up? I see the level 12 one.

Titania Olivia Thrune |

So, little confession time here.
I hate Twilight.
I picked it up specifically to give it a negative review for my freshman english class in college, and I was not disappointed in that respect. I'm not a huge fan of first person and I can only recall one book I've read that was done in first person that I liked (Name of the Wind for the curious) and the characters, especially the viewpoint character, just made that worse.
I forced myself to read that book and I hated every minute of it.
Then came the movies.
Ugh, the movies!
I had to sit through the first two with my sister, who had gone full fangirl at the time. I don't remember them much beyond vampires shatter like marble apparently. The worst part, I think, were some of the cringeworthy commercials at the time. Thankfully, I never had to deal with the fanbase at large. I'm sure they'd have strung me up somewhere if I had.
So yeah, I tend to lampoon it whenever I get a chance. Honestly, the most surprising thing is that it replaced The Great Gatsby as the most hated book I've ever had the misfortune to subject myself to.

![]() |

Okay, confession time.
I've read all the books and seen all the movies. I think the books are a lot better than the movies, by far, but I can't stand Bella and Edward. One is an emotionless drone, and the other is a creepy stalker that should have been shot by the father. Alice, Jasper, and Jacob were the only ones I really liked.

Ea Zalinsel |

never read the books or seen the films, but I hate them anyway.
I've read the first book of "50 shades", never seen the films. I guess it's worse than Twilight. Or as worse, if that could be possible.

![]() |

I think they're both equally bad, as both promote the acceptance of abuse from a partner. And "50 Shades" is a horrible example of a true BDSM relationship. Grey breaks literally every accepted rule, does everything wrong, but because he's rich and handsome, it's alright. If he was fat and lived in a trailer park, it would be an episode of Cops.

GM Zed |

Yewch to Twilight...
Considerably more Yewch in the direction of Fifty Shades...
...but, on the positive side and a total recommendation to anyone who has Netflix (outides of the US) or lives in the States and can see it at the Movies, we watched 'Annihilation' last night - very stylish, some great imagery and still thinking about it, and what it all meant, the next day.

Rallos Therinor |

Twilight....Barf! i happened to watch the last movie for the fight scene...still barf!
50 Shades....triple barf....it's the Penthouse Forum done in a hardcover and romanticized. If he wasn't rich it would be an episode of Criminal minds...

Titania Olivia Thrune |

Suddenly, I'm all too happy to never have been interested in the 50 Shades crud.
Honestly, I prefer Sci-Fi and Fantasy, though I'm going to be trying to broaden my horizons this year and look into some other stuff, especially non-fiction.

Titania Olivia Thrune |

True, but I'm looking for story fodder. Fact can often be stranger and twistier than fiction. Currently worldbuilding for a story that cross the legend of Ol' 666 and the Battle of Britain in space.

Yasmin al Akbar |

Sadly, I don't find myself reading much at all these days. My job already involves excessive reading and I find myself wanting to do anything but once I'm home. (Although I suppose PbP also involves a lot of reading and it doesn't bother me!)

Ea Zalinsel |

i'm currently reading the Harry Potter series (5th tome so far, in English, even if I'm French) and enjoying them.
I'm a big fan of Terry Pratchett Discworld series, and of Eoin Colfer "Artemis Fowl" saga.

![]() |

Been reading a lot of LitRPG books through Amazon and found some good ones. The Divine Dungeon series is excellent, and the Star Justice series is pretty good, if a bit juvenile as it's a harem book.

Rallos Therinor |

oddly enough, i don't read as much as i should. i dont read fantasy, even though i should. i like Tom Clancy and William Gibson. And i have read every Battletech novel as well as iwning them too.

GM Zed |

My 10 year old is working his way, at a break neck pace, through the Artemis Fowl novels... and, as for me, I'm on to my third China Mieville book in as many months (although I am currently diverted and reading Carrie Fisher's Princess Diaries).
I tried reading some of the later Discworld books, I used to read them in school / university, and I really couldn't get into them at all... I don't know whether I had rose-tinted specs about them being as good as I thought they were or whether Pratchett's style moved on - but I just didn't find it very engaging reading...
...and yeah, I write for a living (technical, scientific and regulatory) so I really shouldn't want anything to do with the written word when I get home - but here I am!!!!

GM Zed |

Congratulations to Ea on reaching 1,000 posts!!! In recognition of shaping your own fate, she receives a blessing from Pharasma.
Moment of Pause (Sp) – Once only, as a melee touch attack, you can stop time for one creature, briefly freezing them in place. For one round only, the creature can take no action and experiences time as if that round never took place. The creature may make a Will Save (DC = 10 plus Character’s HD plus Character’s CHA modifier) to negate this effect.

Yasmin al Akbar |

Very cool, Ea! Fate be with you. Happy we've been able to adventure together for so long.

Titania Olivia Thrune |

Sorry for my absence. Work and my sister's birthday have eaten most of the past two days. This is the first chance I've had to post since Monday.

Yasmin al Akbar |

Work is a big mess right now, so don't hesitate to bot me if needed.

Yasmin al Akbar |

Thanks! Not really drama, just too much work! Though I always find time to post, it would seem.
By the way, if confusion strikes and causes me to attack an ally, is it appropriate for me to go all out in casting spells? I held back the time we were fighting the Seugathi, but that was vaguely justified by the weird spell-sucking firepit in the room. As we all know, Yasmin's normal "attack" is a freezing arc to the face.

Happy 2018 everyone! Been missing you folks and the boards in general. And hey, Murassa's back too! I just wanted to pop in and say hello and hand out well-wishes.
Two of my buddies and I are actually creating our own TTRPG right now. It is a lot of work but I think we have some awesome ideas! Maybe I'll recruit you guys as playtesters when the time comes.
Work is decent, life is going on, my wife and I are trying for another baby so that's my most important endeavor right now. I hope you friends are doing well.

So glad to hear you're doing well... and reappearing with a glorious '1' - way to make an entrance!!!

Yasmin al Akbar |

Hey Grayface, nice entrance! Glad to hear you're doing well, and it's really cool that you're working on your own TTRPG! What's the setting? Fantasy, modern? I would love to break your game be a playtester sometime if the opportunity arises!
Good luck and good wishes to you and your wife!

Titania Olivia Thrune |

Same here. Glad to hear things are going well for ya!
What kind of TTRPG is it? Fantasy? Sci-Fi? Generic? Narrative?

Ea Zalinsel |

Probably speaking for everyone here, but we're glad to see you back on the path to happiness
I'm glad to see you lurking around, and happy for you and your wife.
Take care!

Grayface |

Thanks for the kind words everyone. Right back at you.
What's the setting? Fantasy, modern?

Our main love in RPGs is Fantasy so our game is fantasy at its core. With that said we want the game to be built on a chassis that has room for sci-fi elements to play a role. We're casting aside science in favor of simpler explanations for such things - ancient tech left by a forgotten race, a tube that fires projectiles with focused gusts of wind (functionally a gun, but fantasy!), etc.
To your question about the setting/theme - we're discovering a lot of tough questions that need answers before going too far in the design scheme. For example, D&D/PF can be setting-neutral and yet certain fantasy elements are baked right into the rules. For example the race choices are all thoroughly "fantasy" though a D&D/PF game could be played in a wide variety of settings/campaigns. We're thinking about which kinds of races to add to that end, or whether to not pre-make races at all but instead have a list of a la carte add-on powers to create your own character from scratch. Those types of decisions we're still very much "on the fence" on. For now we're trying to focus on what the core math assumptions are, like what kinds of dice are used for skill tests, attacks, what kind of stats shall we use, etc.
One neat concept we're working on is a sort of limited metacurrency that the players can opt to use (call it "Luck" for lack of a better term at this stage. Very similar to Hero Points in PF) to modify rolls, empower their attacks, or enable a better outcome. The trick is every time a players uses "luck" they have to pay a toll in the form of that same currency to the GM, a sort of "fate" pool. (We're calling it "pushing your luck" or "tempting fate") The GM can then use that pool to pull similar tricks against the party. We want to make it more dynamic and fun that this may sound, but its a work in progress.
Big stuff. Overwhelming even. But for now it is still fun and interesting to us so we're moving forward!

AdamWarnock |

Sounds more like Karma than Luck. ;)
One thing you might want to consider is instead of having the GM spending those points, each point the players spend gives the GM some card or die to add to a pool that can be used to figure out if something happens at a critical juncture. Each card or die can shift the something happening to be either positive or negative to the party. By making it a gamble, I think you'd get more players spending and trying to get those points. Honestly, that'd be a cool thing to have on top of the Bennies system that's in Savage Worlds.
I like how GURPS handles skills and attacks, which is everything is resolved by rolling at or under on 3d6. It relies heavily on the skill system to work. Because GURPS does rely so heavily on it's skill system, it does have a lot of skills, and when you factor in defaults, attributes, and how buying a point in a skill scales, it is rather daunting. One of the advantages to using Pathfinder or 13th Age is that there's only a couple of dozen skills, or your skills are basically whatever is logically covered by your background.
Actually, have you guys decided how people buy skills and abilities yet? That may affect how you want to handle resolving those.
