Turniphead takes a deep drink of his fresh juice, and wipes his mouth followed by a belch. He then turns to the half elf, and glares at him.

"Do I look like I care what anybody else thinks"? "I like fruit juice".

"And I don't judge you for that, I was merely pointing out your bravery. Enjoy your drink, it looks delicious."

Tiberius turns back to his tankard of spiced rum, looking almost bored.

I was trying to think how to get a card game going. This is what I've come up with. It's not perfect, but workable enough for us to roleplay.

Kestryl's Poker:

*5 Card Draw

*You will deal yourself five cards to start, using Paizo's dice roller.

*Cards will be generating using the formula "dice"5d54"/dice", but with brackets instead of quotations.

*Reference the chart below to see what your cards are.

*If you have a duplicate, re-roll it.

**If you have any ability to cheat... extra appendages, slight of hand, magic, or just pure recklessness... roll an extra card.

*Put your cards in a spoiler, and we'll trust people not to peek.

**The only betting will be at this point**

*Betting will go on, in any order (to speed things up)until each player has had 2 chances to *raise,* *check,* or *fold.* A player will be considered folded if they don't post in 24 hours.

*Every player that has not folded can discard 1, 2, or 3 cards. -announce in a spoiler your keepers and discards-

*Then deal yourselves another 1,2, or 3 new cards.

*Re-roll any duplicates in your own hand.

*Show your final hand. (write out what it is)

*The winner takes his money.

**If 2 or more players have duplicate cards, clearly one of them was cheating. Roleplay to determine who the cheat is.**

**If anyone suspects another player of peeking at his original 5 cards, this suspicion is also encouraged to be role-played.**

I think there may be some flaws in your card game, primarily the fact that since you aren't looking at one another's cards there's no way of knowing whether or not you have the same card as someone else... you could both have the same four of a kind, for example. Not a huge deal overall, but it could lead to some interesting in-game situations as people try to figure out who snuck in extra cards :P

I specifically put multiple-player duplicates into the game. It is the chance to accuse each other of cheating-- and roleplay it out. Since I don't have the programming chops to avoid duplicates-- I included duplicates into the rules as "Someone is Cheating-- and... go."

With little better to do herself, Sharice finds her wandering attention drawn to the card game two tables over. She finishes her brandy, then leans back to watch, studying the cards almost as intently as she studies the players.

Good news everyone! Appearantly I will have electric poer in the evenings, and get signal rather well in the Owens Valley. So I might be able to post a little bit each night, even if I can't start the game yet.

Seveal other patrons start wandering over to observe the card game. Whispering rumors abound as people try to discern which of these strangers will win.

@Jensen Thanks for beta-testing with me. Although some might accuse you of cheating with 2-- 3 of spades. I know its a typo though. Let's see if we can't wrangle some more people into the game. That was a simple hand, let's see if the next one involves some real or imagined cheating.

Kestryl gathers up the cards and begins shuffling.So step on up, who wants a hand? It takes a copper to play. It takes skill and lady fortune's favor to win.

5 Card Draw, Updated Rules:

Basic 5 Card Draw Poker, with some adaptations for PbP

Phase I- Ante
. Ante a copper
. Deal yourself 5 cards with the formula 'dice' 1d4;1d13 '/dice'
. Reroll any duplicates in your own hand
. If you choose to cheat (with sleight of hand, magic, etc), roll yourself an extra card.
. If you cheat make a DC 15 check for whatever method you used. If you fail miserably, please write that into your in-character narrative.
. Put your cards in a spoiler

Cards are read by this formula:
1d4= Suit. 1=Spades, 2=Hearts, 3=Diamonds, 4=Clubs
1d13= Number. 1=Ace, 2=2,... 11=J, 12=Q, 13=K

Phase II- Bet
. Betting will go for 24 hours from first bet placed.
. Betting is in any order (to speed things up)
. Each character may bet up to 3 times
. Bets are 'check,' 'raise,' 'fold,' and 'see'
. Anyone not betting in 24 hours is considered folded

Phase III- Draw 1, 2, or 3 new cards
. Announce Discards and Keepers in Spoiler
. Roll 1, 2 or 3 new cards.
. Reroll any duplicates in your own hand.

Phase IV- Winner Resolution
. No second round of betting (to speed things up)
. Show cards
. If more than one player has the same card, clearly there was cheating. Resolve in character.
. If you suspect someone of peeking at your cards, resolve in character.
. If you suspect someone of cheating in the first round, resolve in character.

Feel free to make up new rules appropriate to your character-- familiars spying, great perception checks, great bluff checks, etc. Some may need to be announced in ooc's. Try to make it more about role-playing your character than winning at poker. Have fun!

"Waste of perfectly good fate". "Don't those boggers know that you're only dealt so much good luck in life". "Shame to waste it on cards, when you might need it to have an arrow go astray". "Still I guess it gets some of the bad luck out of the way as well". , he then begins some kind of choking, wheezing, high pitched fit, that is soon recognized as laughter.

Aula half smiles at the hobgoblin jest. "I'm not sure you could throw all your bad luck in a single card game. But then, I've already have enough bad luck for a full life, so that means some good luck is bound to come to me ?"

Shrugging again, she stands up from her stool, and grabbing it, moves to the table.

"Mind if I join you?", she asks, tossing a copper on the table,

He moves and grabs one of the cards he just threw down and reveals an ace of spades. "Young lady you have just dealt me a card that I have already thrown away." He tosses down a card he was just dealt, it also being the ace of spades.

He looks at Kestryl waiting for a reaction.

"Aye, I be new t'port. Came in with me kin aboard the 'Foam-Race'." She smiles with pride "That be that naffy lookin' Brig moored at t'end of Long pier." Sunny fairly bounces on her toes as she talks about 'her' ship. (^_^)
