Prashant carries a spear, although he doesn't seem to use it much.
Moving on, since that is a minor question you can settle in the background...
As night falls, you turn your steps toward the Low-Caste District, where the Apananda Silk Mill is located. It is a 20-foot-high brick building with a sloping terra-cotta roof; it looks to be about 100 feet wide and 80 feet deep. Behind the building is a small orchard of mulberry trees, each of which is covered in thumb-sized white cocoons. There doesn't appear to be a second story, but there are tiny windows around the foundation suggesting a basement. Four large but very dusty windows face the street.
Tania Teg |
Tania, as she approaches the building, feels doubt and fear crawl along her spine. She feels exhausted by the day's events and wonders how much more she can take before she's too exhausted to command the elements.
She keeps her doubt to herself, though her companion Ashaka feels her fear and lets a low growl reassure her.
Nesipho Inkosi |
Nesipho circles the building looking for guards and also doorways in.
Is there a back door? Or front door only?
Would a person be able to squeeze through the tiny windows if opened? How about Ashaka?
Perception is +11 for any hidden rolls to spot guards.
"Let me see if I can get us in without causing a ruckus."
Nesipho slips quietly into the back yard keeping to the shadows of the trees as much as possible.
Take 10 on stealth for 25
Back door if there is one, else slip around to the front in the shadow of the building.
Upon reaching the door he tries the keys taken from Lankesh in the lock.
Failing that resort to picking the lock
Disable Device: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 9 + 2 = 29
DM Shisumo |
There is a back door, and Nesipho sees no sign of exterior guards. Getting through the basement windows would be an Escape Artist check for anyone larger than Tiny, and basically be impossible for Ashaka.
Nesipho finds that one of the keys taken from Lankesh's body does indeed fit the lock. And a good thing too, since that roll was not enough to unlock it.
Nesipho Inkosi |
With the door opened just a crack Nesipho returns to his companions. "The keys fit the lock, so easy enough. It's going to be dark inside though. I've only got a dancing lights cantrip and I fear its going to make anyone who might be observing from the outside quickly aware something is going on inside. Anyone have a hooded lantern or something else we can limit the lighting with?"
Nesipho Inkosi |
"In we all go then. I'll take point." Nesipho slips back to the door, expecting the others to follow. Once inside he closes the doorly softly then gestures and four soft orbs of light appear.
Cast dancing lights
DM Shisumo |
Kharswan is of course the name of the thakur, but you will need a DC 25 Knowledge (geography) check to recognize Leckumgee. Also, please wait for the Stealth checks from the others before you react openly to this information.
DM Shisumo |
Perception checks:
Check #1: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25
Check #2: 1d20 ⇒ 4
Check #3: 1d20 ⇒ 4
You are all at the back door, which is currently unlocked but not open in any meaningful sense. Please take one round's worth of actions.
Nesipho Inkosi |
Nesipho motions his companions to step back several steps while drawing his rapier. His free hand moves in a quick motion then the mwangi disappears from sight.
Silent arcana, cast vanish. Step to the side of the door.
DM Shisumo |
The room into which you step is fairly large, about 30 feet wide by 80 feet long. Wooden shelves stacked with trays of cocoons and cases of silkworms feeding on mulberry leaves surround you, and a skylight in the middle of the ceiling fills the room with dim ambient light. Two Vudrani men, dressed in simple tunics and trousers that seem rather out of place in the cosmopolitan milieu of Niswan, stand in defensive postures, bare hands raised in a martial stance.
Initiatives, please.
Tania Teg |
Tania weaves a protective abjuration and an evanescent shield rises to protect Ashaka. The tiger roars and pounces forward, aiming for the closest man.
Cast Shield on Ashaka.

Only the shield goes off before their action.
Apparently unimpressed by the tiger, or perhaps just giving it a wide berth, the two move forward, lashing out with hard-knuckled fists toward Prashant and Markis.
Attack on Prashant: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16, damage 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10 plus a DC 14 Fort save.
Attack on Markis: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22, damage 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9 plus a DC 14 Fort save. Unless I am mistaken, that exactly hits your flat-footed AC Markis, correct?
Prashant and Nesipho can now go.
Nesipho Inkosi |
Am I able to move into a flanking position against either individual? If so can I do it within a 5' step as I was standing next to the door? If I am not able to get flanking within 5' my actions will be different than what I'm posting here.
Nesipho's voice rings out from darkness with arcane words.
Swift action: Arcane point to add +2 to weapon.
5' step to flank

"You'd be wise to surrender as my friend suggested."
DM Shisumo |
Markis feels his body become numb as the man strikes vital nerve points in his body, but he shakes off the effect after an instant too brief for others to notice.
At almost the same time, Nesipho seemingly materializes from nowhere behind one of the monks and - channeling an entire thunderstorm's worth of lightning through a single blow - runs him cleanly through, the wound completely cauterized even as the body falls to the floor. His recommendation regarding surrender is directed at the survivor, who looks over his shoulder toward the door on the opposite side of the room and cries out, "Mistress! Save yourself!"
DM Shisumo |
Prashant rushes toward the door - but suddenly there is a blur behind him that coalesces into the form of a massive purple-blue snake with a vaguely-humanoid head and face; in lieu of hair, a sharp fin-like ridge runs down the creature's back. It lashes out with its tail at the cleric's exposed back.
Attacking from invisibility: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11, damage 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (1, 3) + 2 = 6
The attack strikes one of the tables, cracking the hard wood, and the creature hisses in anger.
The creature chants a series of mystical phrases while watching Prashant warily. Concentration to cast defensively: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (18) + 14 = 32 Its form shifts and wavers, then begins flickering randomly back and forth across the nearby area.
Markis is up.
Markis Alvento |
Knowledge (arcana): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
Mark is gawks momentarily at the creature, but recovers quickly. With a few gestures, he summons a burst of discordant energy that surrounds the flickering snake-thing. Cast confusion, DC 21, and avoiding putting Prashant in the effect.
Edit: no idea if I need to overcome SR, but here goes: Caster check: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
Prashant Bhatnagar |
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Prashant flips out of the way to let the tail crash into the table behind him. "Snake women," Prashant says, raising his spear. "That's never good." As her form begins to go hazy and indistinct, the warrior priest frowns. Rather than press the attack, he decides to focus upon his defense, drawing the creature's attention.
Full defense this round. That makes my AC 24.
DM Shisumo |
Will save: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28
The snake thing seems immune to Markis' spell, although it hisses again in anger before rasping out in the same voice Nesipho heard before.
Nesipho, go ahead and take your action, and then the bad guys will go.
Nesipho Inkosi |
"Another rashaka Nesipho asks?" uncertain himself what this new threat is. "Take down the human then we can deal with the snake-witch."
Unsure of exact positioning, but spell combat, and 5' step with the following priorities - flanking position on the monk of possible, if not then 5' step to be as far from the snake as possible while still attacking the monk.
Arcane point to add +2 to weapon
Defensive Cast Mirror Image: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20

Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5SA if flanking: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 1) = 3
Crit Confirm: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (16) + 13 = 29 -2 if not flanking
Crit Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
DM Shisumo |
Getting into a flank would just be too far for a single step to reach; you are now out of the "snake-witch"'s reach, though.
Nesipho finds a gap in the human's defenses and stabs him deeply; blood flows, but the man grits his teeth and does not cry out in pain. Instead, he turns toward Nesipho, seeming undaunted by the dizzying array of illusions in front of him, and launches a lightning-fast series of blows with hands and feet.
Flurry of blows #1: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21, damage 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10, mirror image roll (hits Nesipho on a 1) 1d6 ⇒ 3; if hit, I need a DC 14 Fort save.
Flurry of blows #2: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17, damage 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7, mirror image roll (hits Nesipho on a 1) 1d5 ⇒ 1.
Flurry of blows #3: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26, damage 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12, mirror image roll (hits Nesipho on a 1) 1d4 ⇒ 3.
The blows do not land, but three of the five figments the magus conjured are disrupted in the attack.
Meanwhile, the snake-woman (the face truly does look vaguely female, although it's really difficult to say so for certain) maintains her focus on Markis, seeming more than a bit angered by his attempt to manipulate her mind. She chants again, her tail waving through mystic positions, before the stinger points at him and a pair of lances of fire burst out of it and sear the air toward him.
Ranged touch attack #1 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (4) + 14 = 18, damage 4d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 3, 6) = 19 fire.
Ranged touch attack #2 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (12) + 14 = 26, damage 4d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 6, 5) = 20 fire.
Markis' mystic protections bend the first bolt of flame away from him just enough that he isn't burned by it, although the heat blackens the hairs on his skin as it passes. He is not so fortunate with the second blast, though, which strikes him squarely in the chest, scorching skin and cooking flesh.
You guys.
