Let's go..This place reeks of creepiness.

Ascending the steps and leaving the Thassilonian ruins below the Crow behind them, the friends make their way back towards the daylight of the evening sun... and with Joanna seemingly afflicted by delusions the very moment that she lifted the shard from the altar, the friends make haste towards the moored boat...

Taking a final look at the Crow, the friends push the boat away from the quay and, pulling hard on the oars, slip out from underneath the shadow of the vast pilings... navigating a route that disguises the fact that they came from the Crow, the friends ride the rising tide all the way back to the shore. And, for a few precious moments, the world seems relaxed - the friends have retrieved two of the shards, discovered a vast Thassilonian complex and have risen to the challenge, at least thus far, that Lady Heidmarch set them many weeks previously...

Mooring in a discrete location, the friends make their way - trying to remain as inconspicuous as possible - through Magnimar up to the Heidmarch manor... leaving the squalor of the 'Shadow' and the 'Shore' behind, they march along the streets of the 'Summit'... and, for some of the group, the arrival at Heidmarch Manor brings back memories of their very first visit...

...indeed, being ushered into the Conservatory by Jacanne - the young man dressed in Qadiran garb - the day seems to hold echoes to that day back in Rova... although this time, when Lady Heidmarch strides into the room with a smile, there are no dead pugwampis to contend with, "You have returned!!! Tell me... were you successful? Do you... do you have it?"

Teldon makes everyone pause on the way out while he collects several vials full of the toxic fungus.

"Yes," Teldon answers, "although there was a... complication... The ioun stone we brought with us didn't fit. Josephina carries the shard now but we must find a suitable stone to adorn it quickly."

Josephina is rather impatient while waiting for Teldon to fill his vials with the vile fungus, but she keeps her mouth sealed.

Its not until the party moors the boat that she speaks again.

"If you would be so kind, keep a lookout while I... change into something less..grimey," she says, though she seems to be having trouble getting the words out.

Though she looks longingly at it, she passes up the lovely jewel encrusted dress for the more common outfit Arsith had bought for her, though it seemed to sicken her to do so. She quickly changes before looking at the others and saying, "Well, let's move it so I ca-- I mean we can claim our reward!"

"Yes, a proper stone and a proper chain. Something refined," Josephina says as she shows off the shard with unrestrained pride at having such a treasure.

"I suppose it could've gone much worse," Brianna adds with a glance at Jo. "Um...I hope you do have another stone that'll fit though, or know where we can find one."

"Oh...and we didn't get as much time to really look at the stonework or make sketches this time either," she says sadly.

I'm sure we would all benefit from some rest, Teldon.

At the news that the friends have dealt with the derro, Lady Heidmarch smiles, ”How fortuitous that your quest led you through to their lair... They must have found another route into the pilings I suppose… how interesting - I needn’t remind you that such information must be held secret… if other parties were to become aware of secret entrances into the Crow, or indeed any of the other pilings, then it would be open season for treasure hunters… And have you made the authorities aware of the derro? You should let your discovery be known to the Arvensoar… they will be, I am sure, pleased to know that the abductions have stopped”.

…and then, turning to Briana and Joanna, ”The stone that I gave you doesn’t fit? That is unfortunate… Joanna? How are you feeling? You say you would like a better chain for the shard? …and maybe a better stone… could I maybe take a look?”, Lady Heidmarch, perhaps sensing Joanna’s changed temperament, talks softly and makes no attempt to take the shard from her…

"It is Josephina, milady," the young woman tells Lady Heidmarch politely when the Venture Captain calls her Joanna, "and yes, I think that a nice gem, something large enough to catch the eye, but not too gaudy, would set this off just right! Oh and a platinum chain so one could wear it would simply do..."

The young woman talks rather animatedly as she goes over her ideas for the shard, letting Lady heidmarch look at it as she answers how she is doing ("Quite well now that I am in this cozy little cottage. Much better than the dank chambers beneath that crumbling ruin! Anyway, I think that setting this in platinum filigree would be what it needs to make it pop. Oh and of course I'd need to...")

As Josephina chatters away, something that seems to keep cropping up is the want, no need, for finer, and expensive things.

If Lady Heidmarch gives Joanna the ioun stone needed to suppress the shard...:

Josephina looks at the shard and the stone, appraising the stone, before setting it within the slot on the shard. As she takes a seat next to Teldon.

Shadlah frowns at Jo as she speaks ill of the ruins, but says nothing, leaving the fancy talk to those who know Heidmarch better. She rolls a small piece of stone, one of the few shards that survived her blasts, between her knuckles, savouring the cool feeling of marble.

As Briana watches the exchange, a feeling of doubt begins to grow in her mind.

Both of these shards change whoever carries them, without some sort of outside influence like those ioun stones. And it's not for the better, either. At least Nalathi could be helped and I think Jo can be too. But with what it did to Natalya...should we even be looking for these things in the first place?

"Lady Heidmarch," she says abruptly, "how's Natalya doing? Was there ever any change in her condition?"

”Josephina? Why, of course it is”, Lady Heidmarch smiles warmly. ”If you will excuse me for a moment? I do believe I have quite the thing for you… in the meantime, Jacanne?”, the Qadiran lad waiting at the door bows, ”Tea I think… and some of those Korvosan pastries as well”. Whilst Jacanne and Lady Heidmarch are out of the room, the friends have a small amount of time to appreciate the peaceful chambers that the Lady has nurtured over the years… the walls are lined with pictures and maps from across Varisia – some seeming to illustrate the current nation and some showing the land as it may have been during the era of the Runelords... and dotted around the place, subtly hued flowers festoon various Tien vases.

Before too long, Jacanne has returned – bringing with him a silver tray festooned with savoury pastries and a bronzed teapot from which delicate aromas spiral into the air. Setting the provisions down, he asks the friends to help themselves and then, moving with a near silent grace, returns to his position waiting at the door… no more than five minutes later, Lady Heidmarch returns clutching a small pouch in one hand and, in the other, a rather grand looking platinum chain.

”Josephina… I do believe that this chain would be appropriate for so fine a piece? ...and, these stones?”, Lady Heidmarch brings three pale blue stones from the pouch, ”I was wrong to think that one would automatically fit the piece… please, could you try one of these? I am confident that one of them will fit”.

Joanna:
Indeed, one of the stones does fit… and when it does, the nauseated feeling that had almost engulfed Joanna lifts. That desire, the need, the entitlement for jewellery and finery departs as quickly as it had descended upon her.

The way that I have been playing the shards, to keep them a little fun, is to suggest to the players who are carrying them that, on occasion… maybe in times of stress or when it seems that particular sin is in danger of coming to the fore… that some of the residual shard behaviour manifests itself. I will leave it to the players to decide when, and to what extent, this might happen.

Whilst Lady Heidmarch waits to see whether the Ioun Stone has suppressed the Shard, she returns to Briana’s earlier question, ”Ahhhh yes, our patient… I am glad to say that, finally, we have started to see some improvement. Teldon, we followed your suggestion and sourced someone capable of reading thought – initially, the prognosis that they gave us was poor… there was no obvious sign of Natalya’s personality within her mind, indeed all that could be observed was a presence whispering those same words that were scrawled on the walls of her chamber… who or what that presence is, we have yet to determine… but the good news is that, when our contact returned yesterday to examine Natalya, he could definitely hear Natalya’s presence… she’s still there and she’s fighting… maybe, when we examine her later, there will be further improvement”

…and then, turning to Joanna, ”How do you feel?”

GM:

Works for me. Jo's not going to be hanging onto the shard, though.

Josephina takes one of the stones from the bag, one that looks like it might fit, and gently sets it into the slot.

Joanna blinks once, then twice, before practically shoving the shard into Teldon's hands.

"I'm sorry," she blurts out, "I was being stupid, then I acted like a jerk and I'm sorry. I'm sorry." The young paladin repeats those words over and over again as she buries her head in her hands and begins to shake.

"It was foolish to grab the shard without attempting to minimize it's influence first," Teldon answers, "especially knowing what happened to Natalya, but you needn't apologize for your attitude while under it's sway. We all know the influence these shards can exert; I think you handled it fairly well."

and I appreciate you recognizing that I am best suited to carry these... unfortunately, it makes much more tactical sense to distribute them judiciously until they can be reassembled...

"I strongly suggest we study this new shard right away and determine its properties, then we can decide who best to carry it..."

As they examine the shard, Lady Heidmarch and Teldon provide a short commentary as to what they are looking at;

The shard, a polished triangle of jet black, is exactly the same dimensions as the Shard of Pride being carried by Teldon – forged of Adamantine, the most common of the skymetals; known for being extremely strong, it is favoured by weapon and armour smiths alike for its ability to cut through solid barriers with ease or to withstand heavy blows. In ancient Thassilon, adamantine was most often associated with Transmutation magic, generosity… and greed.

…as Teldon takes it from Joanna, he instinctively knows that it has the passive ability to assist its bearer through use of ancient transmutation magic.

The bearer can use Haste once per day as a Spell-Like ability, gains a +2 insight bonus on saves versus transmutation spells and gains a +1 insight bonus on attack rolls.

Lady Heidmarch speaks softly, ”Nalathi was able to divine the location of this Shard by concentrating upon the Shard of Pride whilst she was the bearer… maybe one of you could do the same here?”

"Jo! It's okay, you weren't a jerk at all," Briana smiles as she gives the paladin a quick hug. "But I'm happy to see you acting like you again!"

"And I'm glad that Natalya seems to be improving," she continues as she returns to her seat, "but I wish there were some way to actually break whatever hold this 'presence' has on her..."

An odd thought occurs to Briana and she fidgets as she decides to share it. "Um...do you think maybe if the Shard of Pride were brought back to her, now that it's got one of those stones in it, that maybe that would help? Or would it just make things worse again?"

Teldon considers Briana's question for a moment and then replies, "If she's recovering with time away from the shard it seems like a big, unnecessary risk to expose it to her again..."

When Lady Heidmarch finishes examining the shard he takes it once more and holds it out to Arsith. "Here," he says, "a token from your sweetie pie. It makes the most sense for you to carry it."

If anyone has different ideas feel free to interject- it seems to me that she'd benefit the most from the bonus to hit and can afford the action to cast haste when we need it.

"Hmmm, I'm afraid that I'd have to agree with Teldon... Natalya has been very unwell and, whilst the most recent signs are encouraging, anything that may send her backwards", Lady Heidmarch sighs, "Well, I just don't think it's worth the risk... she's safe here... let's just see how the next few days go". The Venture-Captain stops for a moment, "It was a sound suggestion Briana... and I'm glad you shared it with us... and who knows, maybe we will have to come back to your idea. If you would like to, maybe once we are done here you could go up and see her... the young Lupescu girl has been taking care of her for the last day or so... I guess you would like to say hello to her as well".

Pouring herself a cup of tea, Lady Heidmarch watches as Teldon profers the Shard of Greed to Arsith... and then, smiling warmly, "Arsith... you were not here when Nalathi received her vision... I'm not quite sure what she did beyond simply concentrating on the Shard whilst holding it... do you think you could try?"

Inactive

"That's more or less what I thought, but I thought it might be worth a try," Briana admits. "Maybe if she weren't making any progress at all it would be different, but since she is I'm sure you and Teldon are right - better to not chance it." Her expression brightens slightly. "I'm glad that she is making progress though. I think I will go check in on her once we're done here; Shel too. Hopefully she's been adjusting to city life without too much trouble."

When Teldon offers Arsith the now-pacified Shared of Greed, Briana looks a little surprised but then nods. "I think Teldon is right; if Jo isn't comfortable carrying it then it sounds like you would be the other good choice," she offers, smiling encouragingly.

Letting Briana go, Joanna turns to Arsith and gives her a hug as well.

"We can't have that," Joanna laughs, feeling better.

==After Shel and Natalya are brought up.==

"If it would be okay," Joanna says, "I've been wanting to check up on a few other things as well, and there's that favor we agreed to do for Captain Lackerbie."

Lady Heidmarch, sipping her tea, enquires gently, "Who is Captain Lackerbie? I don't believe I recognise the name"

Yes, doing what we can for Captain Lackerbie would be a good thing. I promised we would search after his wife, so she can stop mourn him. As a recent servant of Sheylin, its the least I could do.

Taking a glass of light wine, the white haired woman looks on the Shard

Poor Nalathi. I miss her, even if I didn't knew her for long.

She tries to concentrate on the shard, trying to find out if Lady H theory is valuable, that someone having just one shard can detect the remaining ones.

Gripping the shard, Arsith concentrates upon the jet black metal…

Arsith:
For a moment, nothing happens… and then, a shimmering blue washes over the shard. Concentrating upon it, Arsith watches to see if it will change… suddenly, feeling as if she has been torn from her seat in the Heidmarch Manor, she finds herself standing in pitch darkness. Taking a moment to acclimatise, she realises that her feet are wet - looking down, she can just about see that she is standing in turbulent water… the darkness suddenly lifts as, standing high above her, the image of a woman… imperious in her demeanour… appears. Held aloft in her hand, the woman carries a torch burning with a blue flame… and now, with her surroundings illuminated, Arsith realises that she is standing upon one of thousands of jagged rocks at least one mile out to sea.

…and then the woman, at least two hundred feet tall, sees Arsith. Turning to look at the Shard Bearer, she whispers in a voice laced with passion, ”Come to me… Come to me… My... Sweety Pie”

The aroma of tea and pastries suddenly catches in Arsith’s nose… and, almost as suddenly as when the vision hit her, she is back in the Heidmarch Manor.

wow....I think we will need a bigger boat for the next shard..

She tries to sit, and nearly miss the seat.

I've seen the sea, laced with thousands of jagged rocks, a big woman, tall as a .. as something very tall. She carried a burning torch, with a blue flame. Does that ring a bell for any of you?

The Lady of Liberty, maybe?^^

"Er...well, if it's a landmark then it sounds like it'd be almost impossible to miss," Briana responds, trying to think if she'd ever heard of anything that fit such a description.

So the next shard would be in New York City? Sounds like we've stumbled into the realm of fanfiction and crossover stories! :3

Lady Heidmarch watches, her tea quite cool now, as the friends discuss the vision...

Knowledge (Geography) DC14:
Arsith is, almost certainly, describing 'The Lady's Light'. The Lady’s Light is an unusual monument in that while all of those who have sailed to Magnimar from the south have seen it, very few have actually visited the site. The towering statue looms at the southwesternmost point of mainland Varisia... at night, the upraised scepter held by the Lady’s Light flares with a cold bright radiance serving to warn ships away from the reefs that line that part of the coast line.

male Human Investigator [empirist] (VMC Magus) 7 | HP: 52/52 | AC: 18/13/16 | F +4, R +8, W +7 (+9 v Illusion) | Init +2 | Perception +17 (+20 v traps)

"The Lady's Light," Teldon blurts out, "it's a fairly famous monument; in fact, I saw it on the journey up to Magnimar from Absalom. As far as I know it hasn't been explored much at all, perhaps because it's not very safe to bring a ship into the rocks?"

After a moment of thought he continues, "I was surprised to find the greed shard next... we were operating under the belief that the next shard would connect to the first, but from what little I understand of Thassilonian magic Pride, associated with illusion, is opposed to Greed, which is associated with transmutation... They should be on opposite sides of the sihedron... I'm not sure what that means, or how these will fit together, but if the pattern holds the next shard will be Lust. Pride and Lust should be adjacent... perhaps we'll be able to attach those two?"

Lady Heidmarch, nodding at Teldon's identification of the monument, expands further, "The construction of monuments to symbolize power long served to assuage the egos of Thassilon’s runelords. Several runelords took to the tradition of carving their visages into mountain peaks that overlooked their realms, but Runelord Sorshen wanted the world to remember more than her face — for her, no mere mountaintop bust would serve. Instead, she commissioned the construction of numerous towering statues of herself throughout her realm of Eurythnia. Most of these have sunk beneath the waters of the sea or have crumbled... indeed, all that remains of a once-mighty statue of her near Korvosa is a single foot".

"But one image remains in full view — Teldon, as many others who arrive in Varisia by sea, has seen it... the Lady’s Light. This towering statue of Sorshen is among Varisia’s most famous and most iconic Thassilonian monuments... originally built in –6060 ar, over 750 years before Earthfall, the Lady’s Light stands today, towering nearly 200 feet tall and bearing the torch of blue flame that originally proclaimed the Runelord’s power"

Lady Heidmarch points out the coastline around the southern tip of Varisia, "It's here, in the Mushfens... even getting there is going to be adventure in itself... you'll struggle to find a boat that will go near it - and, by land, you've nearly fifty miles of swamp to contend with".

I have highlighted the Lady's Light on the Campaign Map of Varisia.

Hearing that Lust was next, Joanna lets out a groan.

"This next one is just going to be one long awkward moment, isn't it?"

GM Zed, would it be alright if I posted some stuff that happens after this meeting? Joanna's going to be doing a lot, and I didn't want to bog down the game while everyone's waiting on me.

"That's...quite a ways then and it'll be even harder going than it was to get to and from Ravenmoor," Briana sighs. She didn't even want to think about the ramifications of anyone carrying the Shard of Lust, so she focuses her attention on the logistics of getting to where they'll want to go. "Sounds like we'll need to plan on being away from Magnimar for some time."

I was sure it was the Lust shard, because I was quite wet..

Arsith smiles and let the words sink.

Then I realised it was because the sea was quite high.

oh come on, it was just a small joke.. After all the horrors we went through, we could have a laugh sometimes.

”Well… it seems that you will be travelling again soon. Few people ever have cause to enter the Mushfens so I have little advice that I could give you… I may however be able to find you a guide, I’ll have a conversation with a few people… there is someone I have in mind that may be able to help you but I haven’t heard much of him for a few months, I am hoping that Unselm will know of his whereabouts”.

Lady Heidmarch suddenly catches herself, ”Oh!!! I’m so sorry, in my excitement to learn more of the Shard I have overlooked my responsibility as your hostess… you must be quite exhausted after your time in the Crow. Please, take the time to freshen up, rest and relax… our library is yours as always… and join me for dinner at seven?” The Venture Captain nods at the young boy who has been watching the entire time, ”Jacanne will show you to your rooms… you will stay here tonight at least?”

This is an ideal time for you folks to knock off a couple of the ‘to do’ items on your list… use the library to research the Derro fungus, write letters to folks, maybe catch up with Shel Lupescu (she is in the Heidmarch Manor somewhere), etc.

As the friends stand, Lady Heidmarch approaches Shadlah, ”Shadlah, if I may? We should probably talk further… would you mind having another cup of tea with me? I would like to talk about the Pathfinder Society”.

As per the Shattered Star Player’s Guide, Teldon, Arsith, Briana, Ziomarra and Joanna receive 6 Prestige Points and 6 Fame within the Pathfinder Society. I will track this gradual accumulation of Fame and Prestige in our Campaign Tab.

Briana chokes a little on her tea at Arsith's joke, her expression a mixture of shock and amusement. "I think *hack* "that's about the last thing I expected to hear you say Arsith!" she continues, caught between laughing and coughing the tea out of her windpipe. Once upon a time she would've needed to feign complete shock at such language but now she was free to respond how she saw fit - and it was rather funny in its unexpectedness.

Turning her attention back to Lady Heidmarch, she offers a small bow of thanks as everyone stands. "Thank you, Lady Heidmarch. It'll be nice to relax, at least for a little while. You said Shel was here? I think I'll go say hello."

Joanna turns almost as red as her outfit at Arsith's joke, though she did let out a surprised and embarrassed giggle.

"Oh... my," the paladin says as she smiles. She was shocked, but she was far too happy to see that Arsith was fast turning away from the woman in mourning she had been.

"Yes, I will, at least," she says to Lady Heidmarch when she asks about them staying the night.

WIll post more tonight. Not enough time at the moment.

"Yes, the Lady's Light. I have heard of it, of course. My travels across Varisia have so far been firmly on land, and I've never set eyes upon it myself. It is said to be a wonder to behold!"

She happens to take a sip of tea just at Arsith makes her joke, and she snorts with suppressed laughter, barely managing not to choke or spill any tea.

Teldon looks around awkwardly after Arsith's joke, unsure how the only man in a room full of women should respond to such humor... then breathes a sigh of relief when the conversation moves on.

He stands when Briana does and walks with her towards the door. "I'm going to go to the library; please say hello to Shel for me," he says looking adoringly into her eyes. He then takes her hands in his own, lifts them to his mouth, and kisses them each softly. "I'm really looking forward to sharing a proper bed again," he says with a smile, "come and get me when you're ready to turn in?"

"Me too," Briana beams back at Teldon. She'd not had a chance to give it much thought as of late, but he was right - since their return from Ravenmoor they'd been so busy that they hadn't had much time to themselves. "And I will, to both questions," she adds as she stands on tiptoe to give him a brief kiss. "I promise!"

Joanna heads up the stairs to see Shel and see how she's adjusting to life in Magnimar.

And hopefully this isn't moving too quickly.

After speaking with Shel, Joanna asks Lady Heidmarch or one of her retainers if she could have some ink and paper to wrote a few letters.

Letter to the Korzhas:

Dear Mr. Viorec Korzha

I hope this letter finds you and yours well. I know Sandpoint is different from Ravenmoor, I wanted to see how everything was going for you. I have talked with Mr. Donovan and he should be finalizing the details soon, if he hasn't before this letter arrives.

As for us, we laid Nalathi to rest outside of Sandpoint. While we still miss her, we've meet a new companion. She is a shoanti named Shadlah, and a powerful mage of the earth. Her skill has helped us on several occasions, including fighting off goblins from a tavern in the southern part of Magnimar where we met her.

I hope to be able to visit soon, but I'm afraid that other obligations and certain circumstances will prevent me from doing so. I'd love to see how the farm is coming and to see all of the children again.

Until then, take care of yourself, and let the little ones know I said hello!

Iomedae's Humble Servant,
Joanna

And I just realized we were never given Captain Brast's full name. Oops.

Letter to Brother Titus:

Dear Uncle Titus,

I've been trying to keep a low profile, and as much as I'd like to avoid passing trouble to you, I'm afraid that I've come across a situation that I need your advice in dealing with.

While performing our duties as Pathfinders, my companions and I came across an unfortunate man, a Captain Brast. The man had succumbed to Ghoul Fever several years ago, but had thought only one or two had past. He helped us out, and we agreed to find his wife and let her know that he'd died at sea and give her his brooch.

I want to help him, though. I know that I am not a great vessel for Iomedae's power, but you are. I am hoping that you know of a method of reversing the transformation that turns men into ghouls.

Other than that, I am doing well and hope to see you again soon.

Ever your little niece,
J.

Letter to Mr. Donovan:

Dear Mr. Donovan,

I wanted to check up on a few things, the first was a if the new deckhand was doing well on the Golden Key and if the ship had left port yet. The second was to see how things were going with the farm the Korzhas will be running. I know that I am asking a lot of you, and I appreciate all that you've done for me.

Also, if you have heard anything about the matter I mentioned last time we met, I would like to know. Tell Vivian I hope to see the two of you soon.

J.

After writing the letters and sealing them in their envelopes, with wax the tired paladin goes to bed.

Holding off on the next morning until it looks like we're ready to move on to that. Again, sorry if I'm getting ahead of myself. :)

Teldon smiles all the way to the library thinking about the kiss he'd just received and the hope of more kisses tonight. He then settles in and goes to work researching the fungus.

Focus, you don't often have access to libraries these days... you can give Briana every ounce of your attention tonight, but for now pay attention to the books... Hmm, this one doesn't have anything about fungi... Last time I opened this one was when I was looking for a cure for Fenster... Briana's grown so much in her casting, I wonder if she could manage a remove disease spell... she smells so good; I miss her smell right now... Books, focus on the books... Ah, this one looks promising...

I can't remember, are we using any kind of check for research here? If so...

Arsith moves to her room, removes her armor, stretches, and asks Lady H servants for a warm bath.

Then, alone, she takes of her clothes and relaxes in the warm water..

I wonder what happened to me earlier... Usually I'm not one to use such crude humor. Everyone seemed surprised, but at least the girls laughed. Well, not all girls. Shadlah was as stonefaced as usual.

She giggles in the bath, rubbing her feet together

Face it, silly girl, for all these years you mourned your lost one, and kept a sad face. Now you must embrace life again, and what would be life without some pleasures? I will love again, surely, if Sheylin wants me to. I shutted close my eyes, my heart to the beauty of the world. Now it's time to open my eyes again, and to seek joy and happiness.

Pensively, she washes her long white hair, stroking a few nasty locks until they uncurl

Gosh, I miss taking a bath with you, Lenore. I miss the sound of your voice, of your laugh, I miss your smell, your warmth, feeling your hand in mine, feeling your body in the bed against mine. These things won't happen again, I know it, I'm slowly accepting it.

Despite the emotion, Arsith manages to smile, closing her eyes
Thank you for the memories, Lenore. Thank you for bringing joy and tenderness to my life. I never knew how empty my life was before I knew you. I will never forget you, my love. My heart slowly start to learn how to beat again, fueled by the love you put inside it.

Still eyes closed, she sends a long kiss to the invisible world
This is my small tribute, Lenore, for all the gifts I received while we where together. May Shelyn warms Pharasma's heart, as your warmed mine.

Teldon

Finding his way to the library whilst the others make their way to other parts of the Manor, Teldon sits down with his samples of fungus from the derro lair... and, in his element at last, makes his way through the Heidmarch's impressive collection of texts.

...pretty soon, Teldon has built a picture of what it is that he has brought back from beneath the Crow; Cytillesh is a dangerous type of Darklands fungus also known as brain mould... and is prized by the derros, who appreciate its benefits and are not fazed by its severe detriments, which include stillbirths, birth defects, and insanity. As such, it commonly grows on the walls and ceilings of derro communities.

Derros brew a powerful poison from the mold known as cytellish extract and derro alchemists frequently use the spores of the cytillesh fungus in their crafts. The spore is a versatile alchemical reagent and often combined with other poisonous elements to create deliriums, hallucinogens, and psychotics... it is almost certain that the kidnappers were using cytellish to ensure that victims the derros are done with have no memories of their time as experiment.

Joanna, Arsith, Briana and Ziomarra

Whilst Joanna, heading to her room to write a series of letters, and Arsith, retiring for a bath, keep themselves to themselves for the rest of the evening, Briana and Ziomarra seek out Shel Lupescu. Asking Jacanne where she may be, he directs them to the room where Natalya has been made comfortable... and, obviously hearing the approaching women, Shel rushes from the room with a look of happiness upon her face, "It's you!!! You've come back already... I was wondering if I would see you so soon... It's been so interesting here, the Lady has been so welcoming... and she's shown me so much... who would have thought that a young girl from Ravenmoor could ever end up here? And, I just have to thank you so much for it". It is clear that Shel Lupescu, excited as she is, has settled into her new lodgings well...

"I've got a few errands I need to run now... and a little later on, I will need to look on poor Natalya again... maybe you could tell me a little more of your adventures at dinner tonight? I would love to hear all about it..."

...but it was not to be, at least not that night; the meal prepared in honour of the returned adventurers remains uneaten whilst, upstairs, the friends finally succumb to exhaustion... seven o'clock comes and goes whilst the friends sleep... Indeed, within the comfort of the Manor and without the risk of ambush that accompanies an adventurer's journeys, the friends slumber all the way through to daybreak... when, awakening in beds, the smell of coffee permeates the entire manor.

We can retcon Shadlah's conversation with Lady Heidmarch... but other than that, it's reconvening for breakfast and some pertinent information from the Venture Captain.

Is there any kind of alchemy lab in our lodge here?

Teldon awakens with his face buried in Briana's hair and he smiles broadly. It really had been wonderful to share a proper bed again. He contemplates waking her with kisses but decided to let her sleep. With one quick kiss on her neck, he slowly removes the arm wrapped around her, letting his fingers graze gently across her soft skin. He hurries down to the kitchen before the coffee is finished and grabs a bowl of cream and a piece of the leftover meat from last night's uneaten dinner. Returning to the room, he sets both out for Rowenna before quietly climbing back in bed to hold Briana until she wakes.

When the time inevitably comes for her morning rituals he gives her a long deep kiss and heads down to await breakfast.

Ah, sorry. I hadn't realized it was before dinner. Oh well. I'll just roll with it.

Joanna wakes up ravenous.

Most mornings, she was merely hungry, but today, she is feeling the pain of her stomach trying to eat itself as the smells of food greet her rising. Teldon beats her downstairs, and the cream and meat he was carrying as they passed each other was enough to earn him a narrow-eyed glare from the starving paladin.

By the time Teldon arrives downstairs the second time, three plates with the remains of several different dishes lie around where Joanna had apparently fallen asleep again, her arms, folded on top of the table, acting as a pillow for her head.

Teldon smirks at the sight of Jo surrounded by empty plates. "You know, if my theory about the sequence is correct the next shard after Lust will be Gluttony... we may need to keep that one away from you or you might eat the poor Heidmarches out of house and home."

Despite his joke Teldon makes a small plate just to hold him over until he can eat breakfast with Briana.

Previous Evening

Despite still being rather worried about Natalya's condition, Briana is happy to see that Shel is adjusting well to her new life in Magnimar. "Yes, we made it back! I think Lady Heidmarch will have something else for us to do fairly soon but I'm hoping we'll be able to stay for at least a day or two - it would be nice to have a little time to relax." Though a little disappointed to have caught Shel right as she was headed out for her errands, Briana nods enthusiastically when Shel asks for more details of their exploits later. "Of course! I'm not the best at telling stories but Zee here certainly is and you know how Teldon likes to talk," she laughs. "We'll see you later at dinner, then."

After having peeked in on Natalya, Briana takes the opportunity to have a few quiet moments to herself and slips outside to the veranda with her paints and sketchbook. "Even though the murals and monuments n the Crow are...amazing, really, I still think there's something to be said for more simplistic scenes..." she murmurs as she works, her painting one of Rowenna dozing on one of the fine lounge chairs. It isn't until she bumps her forehead against the still-damp painting that she realizes that she was dozing off. "Whoops...I think you've had the right idea all along Rowenna," she yawns as she dabs the wet paint off her face. "A nap before dinner would be wonderful."

Heading back inside, she pokes her head into the library long enough to mention to Teldon that she's heading upstairs for a nap - and is mildly surprised when he offers to join her. "Oh, okay - I didn't realize you were ready to take a break so soon," she smiles. "Were you able to learn anything?" she asks as they settle in...and though she tries very hard to stay awake long enough to listen to Teldon's explanation, the coziness of the bed and of his arms around her is too much and she soon drifts off to sleep...

Morning

When morning comes Briana is amused to find that both she and Teldon had apparently slept through dinner and all the way through the night. "Good morning..." she smiles sleepily. "I guess we missed dinner, but I guess we also needed the extra sleep," she chuckles, motioning to the fact that they're both still dressed in yesterday's clothes. "Nice of the others to let us sleep, too."

As she sets about her morning rituals, she nods at Teldon and waves him on downstairs. "Go on ahead, I'll be down as soon as I can, okay?"

Unsure of what sort of trials the group might face that day, if any, Briana hesitates on picking one of the little floaty wisps to join her...until her eye is caught by one with fluctuating colors, first vibrant like the banners of a marketplace, then dull and muted like the cobblestones on the streets outside. As it joins with her, she realizes that it's the very essence of the city itself in all its splendor and squalor.

I didn't know that a city could have a spirit, have a soul...I guess I still have a lot to learn.

After quickly washing up, Briana joins Teldon and Joanna downstairs. "Is that coffee I smell? I've not had a cup in ages!" She chuckles as she spots the dozing Joanna surrounded by numerous empty plates but opts not to wake her, instead filling her own plate with a generous portion of meat and fruit.

"I wish we could start every day like this," she enthuses as she digs in. "Meals like this are maybe one of the few things I miss about home."

Arsith awokes in the bed, streching and yawning.

A good night sleep can do some wonders... especially after yesterday warm bath!

She takes a few more minutes under the sheets, rolling herself on the bed.

Then the hunger get the better of her, and she rises, adressing a silent prayer to Sheylin for the beauties of the world.

You welcomed me last night, bed, but now we have to part way.. You can come with me, don't be silly..

Giggling and in decidely good mood, Arsith playfully set her white mane in two pigtails, before putting on a modest dress. She looks at her reflexion in the mirror

I really have to buy new clothes too...Something more beautiful. These modest, loose robes were perfect for a Pharasman, but I'm supposed to support the goddess of Love and Beauty. Something more colored would be a start.

Barefooted, she goes to the kitchen, and sees some of her friends already downstairs.

She kisses Jo on the cheek, then Briana and Teldon
Hi Sweetie Pie, hello lovers...How are you today? Did you sleep well?

She glances, amused, at Teldon and Briana, then says with a beaming smile
I'm so happy to see you everyday more in love than the day before. It's a true blessing for me, you know?

Female Aasimar (Angelkin, Scion of Humanity) Bard 1 | HP: 9/9, NL: 0 | AC: 15/12/13, CMD: 15/13 | F: +1, R: +4, W: +3 (+4 vs. Charm and Compulsion)| Resist: Acid 5, Cold 5, Electricity 5 | Spells: 1st - 2/2 | Bardic Performance: 6/6 | Alter-Self: 1/1 | Init: +2, Per: +5 (Darkvision)

Joanna wakes up as Arsith kisses her on the cheek, She looks a little confused for a moment as she takes in her surroundings, but then what happened starts coming back.

"Kinda bad when you doze off at the breakfast table," she mutters as she rubs the sleep from her eyes, "I guess I slept okay, I was just starving when I woke up, and I'm still a little hungry."

"Is it true that coffee can help wake you up," she asks as she sees Briana with a cup, "I've never had any."

Joanna stands up to stretch some before stacking her previous plates and fixing a fourth with fruits, muffins, eggs, bacon, and sausage. As she eats she looks to the others.

"I know I said we probably shouldn't split up, but 'Pellius Crispin' still needs to meet with Sylvain at the Aspis Consortium. I don't think Arsith nor I should go to that since we might be recognized as the retainers you let go, so what if we took care of Captain Brast's request, along with Shadlah? We could also begin getting things for our trip to the Lady's Light from the Bazaar, as well as selling anything that we or the Heidmarches don't want. That'd, hopefully, save us time so we can meet up and head back out to the Crow together to do the stuff that we didn't do before, the paintings, rubbings, and sketches, and let the captain know we delivered the brooch to his wife. Shadlah could probably help us out by making replicas of the carvings and statues we find. I she was working on a carving when Arsith and I met her in Ordellia," Joanna tells the others.

So, my idea was deal with the Aspis Consortium and Captain Brast's request at the same time since some of us risk blowing something if we go. After that, since we have to head out to the Crow anyway to let Captain Brast we fulfilled his request, we can also take along enough supplies to make sketches of whatever we needed to and get that done while we're there. After that, we can finish getting ready for the trip to the Lady's Light.
