Kiknikricker |

Kiknikricker considers Evrail's words carefully, not wanting to make a quick decision. "That may be true, but it may not. It is possible burning the grass would cleanse the area temporarily... but it is also possible it would release the poison into the air we breath. I think the taint is deeper, and would return with any new plant life. We must find and eliminate the source. If we do, it is likely that nature will take care of the cleanup for us. It's not the grass's fault the poison has seeped into the land."

Evrail |

He said after you find the source of the poison.
Evrail sighs than says "I said after we find the source of the poison. I know it would be pointless to just burn it all for it to grow again like this. I do not know where the poison is coming from or what type it is to know if it will go in the air but if we leave it like this might be while before everything gets flushed out."

Kiknikricker |

Kiknikricker is a pyromaniac. You start talking about burning stuff on a mass scale, that's all he's going to hear ;)... But I was merely reiterating the importance of it, didn't mean to imply you hadn't said the same thing.
"It shouldn't take more than a year or so to clear up. It is a type of Lich that is causing this poison, although there may be many undead that live here. It is a draining type of undead, not physically imposing, but we will want to fortify our mental defenses."
Kiknikricker examines Halvair and does what he can to ease the potential harmful effects of the poisonous plant.
Heal (with Kit): 1d20 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 1 + 2 = 21
Edit: Would actually be leeching kit... does that have a limited number of uses?

Surveen Walsh |

Surveen hearing the gnome's words, looks at the ground, trying to see where the undead presence is, he stamps his large booted feet down as though doing this will remove the undead's evil from the ground. "I'm definitely not liking this purple stuff." He stands still, concentrating, quietly under his breath you might hear him chanting the word 'Sarenrae', until he jerks his head up and stares into the distance.
Using his Detect Evil ability, Surveen tries to see if there are any areas of more concentrated evil auras, against what I presume is a background level of evil from the undead's influence poisoning the land.

Shanosuke |

Sorry, been out of the loop sick for a bit.
Halvair seems to be suffering from some form of sickness related to too much contact with a corpse. He will have the sickened condition for the rest of the day. Depending on the quality of the heal check, he could be sick for more. Leeches wont help for this
Surveen, the whole land radiates with evil under your gaze. I will need a perception check from you to discern more.

Halvair |

Wheezing a bit as he leans against a wagon, Halvair does what he can to calm down his worried companions.
"I think I'll be alright; the fumes were just a bit potent and" He coughs a few more times. "Yes, well, poisonous as I heard too late. Any idea as to whether or not this is localized here, or are we talking an entire plain of negative energy?"
With the right transportation and market access, maybe we could sell this as pipe weed to the Whispering Way. Now that would be a money-making scheme!

Shanosuke |

Yes I am a bit too sick to do the research necessary to make posts. Also, I need my players to post a little more than they have been.
Surveen your perception yields no further clues about the taint except that it is everywhere.
Durban looks at Halvair. "Well boss? Shall I set up base camp or not?"

Evrail |

"It is not to hard to eliminate a lot of things if you are prepared for them. I think moving closer to water would indeed be a good idea but while we are moving we should try to figure out as much as we can about the land or areas where this undead might be. Once we set up camp we could than go get some information on the undead." Evrail says to the group wondering to himself what this undead is like.

Surveen Walsh |

Surveen watches Halvair and the purple grass. Thinking aloud he says after Halvair has finished, "We've no idea where the undead that cause the taint are found, perhaps we should camp ere and wait for them to attack? Oh I dunno!" Hr wanders round scanning the horizon and stamping is feet.

![]() |

Looking around Surveen looks into the distance, trying to work out how far this purple grass extends.
If I can take a 10, its 13 perception...plus how much more of the day is there until we must make camp for the evening?
If the purple grass goes on for as far as the eye can see, Surveen replies to Angus.
"But we've no way of knowing how far the land is tainted, it may go all the way to the lake, it might even get worse. So I guess Halvair has to weigh up whether we make camp here where we at least understand a small amount of the dangers, or move forward and hope that the land gets better. It depends if we can tell how large this patch of evil might be, eh Angus? "

Halvair |

Halvair looks down at the plants and then looks towards the purplish horizon that promises a lake.
Hmmmm...
He looks back at the plants.
Pretty ugly situation...
...and back towards the horizon.
"It looks like we're going to have to risk pushing on. If this is what the lakefront property looks like, imagine how crazy the mountains would have been!"

Evrail |

Evrail laughs at Halvair than stops suddenly. Looking at the group he says "Well to the lake than. I still wish to know how an undead did all this or if it has a range to how far it can taint things. I may have to wait until we find the undead doing this before I can get my answers unless any of you can answer me?"

Halvair |

"Let's try to make it closer to the water, which I believe is due north. We may find some more signs along the way regarding the epicenter of whatever undead catastrophe caused this blight, and there's little doubt in my mind that we'll be combating it soon. Still, I would sleep better at night knowing we aren't completely surrounded by zombie plants."
Assuming I would sleep at all under those circumstances...
"Yep, just keep a special eye out for any existing structures. Maybe somebody else tried settling this place before, and we're walking through the overgrown remnants. Evrail? Surveen? Any professional concerns as we proceed?"

Surveen Walsh |

"Well Halvair, just the normal concerns, we now know that we'll be facing something horrible and undead, though quite when we don't know. Yes tonight will be interesting, for foul and tainted beasts are surely going to around. No, the country here is flatish and we have good sight for anything trying to creep up on us. We should be safe. We just have to be watchful and alert." he goes quiet for a few moments before he turns back once more and says, "And best keep clear of the largish vegetation, no knowing how that has been tainted by this foul curse."
Surveen, listens to Halvair and Evain's words before he spurs his horse to the head of the caravan on the left, being ever watchful for threaten.

Evrail |

"I agree with Surveen. I also think some should just be on watch to make sure. Never know what we might miss if we are busy taking notes or checking tracks we find." Evrail looks around the plain and the purple grass after speaking thinking to himself "I hope the fear of tainted beasts is not a real one."

Shanosuke |

So what I see is that you guys want to find the lake. It is about 2 days northeast of the recommended site for the settlment. This also puts you 2 days further from the nearest Bathalras settlement. The charter states that you must find a suitable location within 3 days of the nearest Balthalras city. Just so you all are aware. And just incase I forgot to mention it in the first place.

Surveen Walsh |

The charter bit puts a slightly different complexion on this, so we may want to reconsider our decision.
Surveen takes Halvair aside and whispers into his ear, reminding him of the charter limitation on where to start a settlement.

Shanosuke |

You all only need to back track about half a day. From there Durban orders the other caravan hands to set up base camp. This camp takes the rest of the day to build but has all the luxuries of a small settlement.
There are three large wagons broken up into five pavilions. The wagons themselves are turned into store houses for the supplies. Durban has just about any piece of nonmagical equipment you could ask for and a few magical items as well.
Pavilion one contains a lab for alchemy and experimentation with various item such as flora or fauna, as well as a good deal of reference books.
Pavilion two contain food and cooking area for preparing food for meals.
Pavilion three contains crafting tools and map tables for people to make things or plot maps and hold strategy sessions in.
The final two Pavilions are the barracks. One for Guys, one for girls.
With everything set up you should be able to adventure up to 70 miles in any direction from this point using it as a place to return to where you can dump excess gear, study findings more thoroughly, hold meetings and planning sessions, or anything else you would need a secure and well equipped location for.
After a good dinner provided by excellent chef Gina, you all head to bed. The next day rolls about and now it is time to explore this area and decide once and for all if it is a place you guys can settle.
I have given you all the info you need or can acquire for the present. Halvair, you have recovered from the sickness. It went with a good night sleep. You guys need to decide what to do next to make this area safe for settlers.

Shanosuke |

No one has made any check on anything other than the purple lich. I gave full info on that topic too yet no one seems interested in using it. I think I have lost a few players too. As much as I don't want too, I may have to put this campaign out of its misery. It works best IRL because everyone sits at the table and discuss their actions while I watch and answer the occasional question. People aren't able to discuss the same in a PBP.

Surveen Walsh |

I'm sad to see this one hit the dust, really wanted to see how Surveen fared in this strange land. Also when you designate a leader and we all RP the leader, it doesn't work so well. Like in real life, when the leader isn't around (or posts for a while), then ...well it all slows down. As a player somethimes, when it comes to skill rolls and stuff, feel free to roll for us, or ask us for rolls, as players in RP don't always see they need one. I've enjoyed playing with you all, it sounds like an interesting land we just died in....Thanks DM, liked what you did, best of luck with DMing PBPs in the future.
However if you decide you want to carry on..I'm still here.

Halvair |

In part I've just been lacking information that only Serravael could provide; said player being AWOL for the past month makes things complicated. To Halvair with his present information, the only means of tackling this problem is to muck around until something leaps out at us and gives us a lead.
If this marks the close of the campaign, then I shall look forward to joining you in future games. I am also checking this thread regularly.

Shanosuke |

There are about three players I have not heard a peep from. I will let you guys know that I will be starting a Star Wars campaign sometime this week if you are interested. It will move at a much quicker rate as it is a guided story line that I will be updating daily regardless of playee posting. The danger is that some players may get left behind but unless it involves NPC conversations, I will only post once a day. So if there are any interests in that I will post the link to the recruitment once it is up on this thread. Cool? I have four campaigns going strong, I think this one just wasnt meant for PBP

Shanosuke |

I am running this campaign with a Real life group of six players. It is crazy. They will literally spend an entire five hour session gathering info or even discussing what to do and where to do it. It is really a lot of fun, but people online don't post enough for me to keep it around and I just don't want to have to replace the three missing people. For the Star Wars campaign, I will be using the Star Wars Roleplaying Game Core RuleBook the Revised edition. Thats the only book I have. The Sage Edition is too expensive.

Shanosuke |

You can find the book on Amazon, it is from 2002 but it uses the D20 rules. Yes, a bounty hunter is a prestige class in that game. I will be recruiting up to 18 players for three separate threads once I get it started. It is quite different from pathfinder and should be a lot of fun.

I haven't spoken because it seems like you're looking for a reason to can this one, Shanosuke. I can dig. It's hard when tabletop reality hits PBP reality. PBPs are slow and sometimes require a kick in the pants to keep going. In a game like this, you've got to be willing to err on the side of proving a LOT more information than you have or you'll have one character waiting for your input while seven others wait for that one character to make his decision. I think the Leader idea works fine on tables, but poorly on boards. If you want to continue this, you may need to make some changes in the way things run or else this will be an ongoing difficulty.

Deevor |

Much as I would like to play in another of your games, I have consigned Star Wars to the attic, the graveyard of gaming books. Good luck with that, sounds like it will be fun. Just not feeling very Sci-Fi at the moment. Really enjoyed it and your colourful posts setting the scene and stuff. Also had fun with the rest of the players too.
Many Thanks and hope to play with some of you in future pbps.
Farewell from the blue one.
