John Fleet |

How would you like to handle the question of my starting rations if I've been surviving on the island for a little while? Should I just happen to have enough jungle fruit or whatever to amount to my normal starting rations?

Amy Eir |

Amy has subtracted one ration from her gear. John, I see that you have 5 rations. Can you subtract one. Gleus, you have 10 rations. Can you subtract one also. That leaves the 5 NPCs and Silvio that don't have food. Have subtracted 6 from the party gear. Or should I just remove 8 from the party gear and leave each of us with our rations.

Gleus Hightail |

Amy then offers to Gleus that if he needs to sleep that she could do some of the watch.
Gleus seems to still be smoldering when Amy comes over to offer to share watch duty. The large man instantly seems to soften up, "Much appreciated. We'll see how rough the night is. I'll wake you if these eyes get too heavy." Gleus gives her a weak smile.
Take Watch: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 3) = 7
I will remove 1 ration

John Fleet |

Assuming I have rations to offer after having barely survived in the jungle, I would be happy to share in exchange for watchful eyes to keep an eye on the dangers of the jungle while I sleep. I imagine I also would have picked up some tips about foraging for food in the jungle, I share that information freely, doing my best to make the other NPCs warm up to me. I can roll Defy Danger: Charisma to avoid the danger of being disliked if you wish, haha.

Silvio Callgari Pazzi |

Silvio takes the groups silence as confirmation that all is good and that he managed to quiet any reservations they might have had about the way things are going. After all, the only other explination would be that they choose to ignore the great Silvio Callgari Pazzi! And that is, of course, unheard of. "Excellent", the chelaxian summarizes. "Silvio is pleased that consensus has been had. Should anything happen, feel free to wake up Silvio. Tomorrow will be a day of adventure as we start to explore this island's secrets!" he finishes and prepares to go to sleep.
He's pretty close to referring to himself as "The Silvio" instead of just Silvio...

Your Benevolent Dictator |

@John: You can have the normal amount of starting rations.
-------------------------------------
@Silvio: During the night, your sleep is filled with strange and disturbing dreams. You're back aboard the Jevenive, bent over the railing being seasick. After your latest bout of retching, you slump back and see the rest of the passengers and crew are on deck, all of them sick save for the captain and the quiet Varisian scholar Ieana. She whispers in the captain's ear, then gives him a kiss on the cheek. At that point, the captain holds up a wooden soup spoon, and you realize you're holding one as well. Everyone has a spoon. The ship is sinking, and the only way to stop it is to bail out the hold with your spoon! You work feverishly, but the waters keep rushing in. In the water, you can see monstrous things with pincers trying to claw their way into the ship...
------------------------------------
@Gleus: The night is dark, and a chill wind is blowing. After a while, it starts to rain, and you can see an eerie green glow coming from the ocean. Suddenly, a dead monkey falls from the sky, almost hitting you! The corpse has been completely drained of blood.

Silvio Callgari Pazzi |

Silvio wakes with a gasp and his trusty stiletto in his hand. He looks around with wild eyes for an enemy or threat to confront. Finding none he relaxes and sheathes his blade.
"Silvio had this terrible dream", he tells Gleus (assuming he is still on watch). "We were all onboard of the Jevenive, and we were all sick. Strangely Silvio as well, eventhough he has a formidable immune system and incredible constitution. But that is beside the point. Silvio saw the captain and the varsian, whom Silvio believe was called Ieana, had somehow escaped this sickness. Then the water came and Silvio had only a spoon to keep it at bay! And then the creatures. Monstrous beings with claws like scythes determined to get onto the ship. This is when Silvio woke up, just before defeating these abominations from the bottom of the sea", he says retelling his dream with conviction. "How was your watch? Everything calm and quiet?"
You're this insufferable when you've accomplished nothing - I can only imagine the smugness once we actually DO something. :)
Silvio is Silvio. That is accomlishment enough :)

Gleus Hightail |

@Gleus: The night is dark, and a chill wind is blowing. After a while, it starts to rain, and you can see an eerie green glow coming from the ocean. Suddenly, a dead monkey falls from the sky, almost hitting you! The corpse has been completely drained of blood.
Gleus wraps up best he can in the rain. Its colder on the beach than he thought it would be and Gleus starts lament not making camp. Then he sees the green glow out on the water. What is that? Gleus watches the light for several moments. The warrior rises and before he takes two steps the primate falls at his feet. Startled by the upexpected drop Gleus steps back, muscles tense. He scans the sky briefly before he hears Silvio cry out in his nightmare.
Silvio wakes with a gasp and his trusty stiletto in his hand. He looks around with wild eyes for an enemy or threat to confront. Finding none he relaxes and sheathes his blade.

Gleus listens to the account, but it feels surreal like HE's the one dreaming. "Ieana?" Gleus ponders for a moment before patting Silvio on the shoulder, "It was probably just a bad dream friend. Go back to sleep and we will discuss it in the morning." Once he convinces the Chelaxian man back to sleep Gleus walks back to his tree. Far to much of that story does not sit well with me. Gleus steps up to the monkey and gets a better look at that. That cannot be good...
Gleus will hold out until morning but the he's really gonna need to take a nap or something! If we are going to head into the jungle that is.

John Fleet |

In the dark of the night, Fleet stirs when he hears the monkey's corpse hit the ground. A few weeks living alone in the island jungles is enough to make him into a very very light sleeper.
Without moving, he calls out quietly, "Is something the matter, Gleus?"

Silvio Callgari Pazzi |

"You are probably right. Just the notion of Silvio being ineffective is just ridiculous. Thank you, friend, for putting things into perspective." Now calmed down Silvio puts his head back on his makeshift pillow and returns to sleep. The chelaxian is completely relaxed, even to the point that his soft snoring has a tranquil melody to it. Who knew that snoring could be so soothing?

Gleus Hightail |

With all the noise going on, Amy wakes up. Slowly getting up and walking over to Gleus, Amy ask "Do you need me to cover the rest of the night? "
Gleus addresses both Amy and Fleet, "No its alright its just..." Gleus looks to the monkey corpes he cannot explain. "I'll tell you about it in the morning." Gleus stares out at the sea for a little too long. Amy gets the impression he's exhausted and brings his attention back to her. "Uh, yes. It's been a long day." He gives the two a tired smile. "I'll catch some shut-eye. It's gonna be a long day tomorrow." With a nod Gleus gives up guard duty and slinks down to sleep. "Keep an...eye...out".
Gleus begins to snore. Silvio's snoring adapts to add Gleus into his snoring melody.

Amy Eir |

As the sun raises after a quite night, Amy watches as the group one by one wakes up. One she is sure that the group was safe, she pulls out her red and banner and covers her eyes. Once it is secure in place, Amy looks for the sun. " Sarenae! One of your faithful stands before you. I give you thanks for the light and warmth that shines on this morning." Amy continues her morning worship for the next hour.
Commune with my god and update my spells
Amy looks at the group and ask, Any suggestions for today? I was thinking of hiding any supplies we don't take up in the trees and explore the island. Does anyone agree or have any other suggestions? Amy looks over each person that survived and still with the group.

John Fleet |

Upon awakening, Fleet glances over at the 5 others who were suspicious of him. Thankfully, at least the Tien man doesn't stare back at him with open hostility.
"Er, I had the idea that we could explore northward. It's where the island's Hook is, and a lot of shipwrecks off the north shore that could have useful supplies for us to make a semi-strong residence here on the island. Until we get rescued, that is..."
Fleet coughs, then continues. "There's this cool misty island that I saw, within swimming distance of shore. Harriman here," gestures to the zombie, "before he croaked, said he was sure he detected magic coming from that island somewhere. I couldn't tell, but I wanted to find out what was out there once I found some companions. What say you all?"

Silvio Callgari Pazzi |

Silvio awakes with a glint in his eye, smile on his lips and a spring in his step. Transformed from his earlier rather weary look the chelaxian looks relaxed and energized with a hint of rugged handsomeness. Despite the current circumstances the dashing hero manages to put a very litteral meaning to the concept of "beauty sleep".
Amy looks at the group and ask, Any suggestions for today? I was thinking of hiding any supplies we don't take up in the trees and explore the island. Does anyone agree or have any other suggestions? Amy looks over each person that survived and still with the group.
"Lady Amy speaks with wisdom. We need to explore this island that we for the moment are forced to call home. Our best chances of escaping this place does not lie on this beach. If it did we would already have found it. Silvio would be happy to lead an expidition to explore the island further. Perhaps we start venturing north exploring this island that John is describing?"

John Fleet |

Fleet nods, pleased that the bombastic Silvio was supporting him. He makes sure to keep Harriman at a safe distance, lest the zombie ruin his credibility.
"If you don't want to accompany me, I won't force you to. But I do believe that misty island to be worth exploring, and it may give us the edge we need to survive on this island. Besides, it's something to do. As...fun as it is to spend all day lounging on the beach, I sunburn quite easily."

Amy Eir |

"That is a very smart idea Ichiro. Thank you. May Sarenae watch over you. Here is the list of items we have:
Ornate key and shackles
Small wooden model of the Jenevive inside a glass bottle
Pouch containing 50 coin
Holy Symbol of Nethys
Crates of Preserved Meat (Dungeon Rations x14) 14 Weight
Two large canvas sheets 1 Weight each
150ft of hemp rope 2 Weight
Five shovels 1 Weight each
Bullseye lantern and enough oil to last for 24hrs 1 Weight
Miscellaneous odds-and-ends (Adventuring Gear x8) 8 Weight
I recommend bring with us all the Miscellaneous odds-and-ends unless Ichiro wants one. At least one shovel, hemp rope, and canvas sheet would night. Does anyone want to carry the Holy Symbol of Nethys or Bullseye lantern and enough oil to last for 24hrs? Don't forget to take two days rations as well. Everyone please let me know if you want to carry something so the list is updated. states Amy as she looks over the supplies.

John Fleet |

"What a smorgasbord..." Fleet comments in awe as he stares at the hoard of supplies. "When I shipwrecked I was barely able to save my own gear! I'll take the lantern and the oil."

Silvio Callgari Pazzi |

"Excellent, it is settled then. First we move .. north you said, yes? Silvio will happily take point but he would like some assistance navigating the jungle. While Silvio is an experienced seafarer the jungle is new. Do we have any among us with and inclination towards more rural areas?"
If nobody steps forward Silvio will start to lead the group north along the beach retelling stories of his numerous great and daring deeds.
Before heading off Silvio rummages through the adventuring gear. "Ah, this will indeed come in handy. And Silvio can see plenty of uses for one of those."
Take one of the Adventuring gear

John Fleet |

"I might as well trailblaze since I'm traveling through the most familiar territory of any of us," Fleet offers, hesitantly.
Let's see if this works...: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 4) = 10
Booyah!

John Fleet |

Actually all three roles in a Perilous Journey are based on Wisdom. So that means you gain an XP, and something bad happens to us as a result of your failed attempt at scouting. Amy needs to roll +Wis to determine how many of our rations we burn up on the journey.

Amy Eir |

rations: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (5, 3) + 2 = 10
"Aerys, Gelik, Jask, and Sasha. Are you coming with us as we check out the north side of the island? Could use your help. Either way, do you want any of the supplies? We have reserved meat, Two large canvas sheets, 150ft of hemp rope.Five shovels Miscellaneous odds-and-ends. " ask Amy as she looks over the supplies.
IF the NPC's take supplies how much can they carry? I am assuming that you would list the items they will have in their position???
" Gleus, can you carry one more miscellaneous odds-and-ends? Silvio, can you carry one of the helm ropes and one of the canvas sheets? I want to make sure if needed that we have everything for our mission." request Amy.
Turning to Ishirou, Amy ask, "what do you want to help guard the remaining supplies?

Your Benevolent Dictator |

When Amy lays out the available supplies, Jask immediately takes the holy symbol. "Praise be! I thought it was lost forever!" At Amy's question, Ishirou simply looks over the multitude of supplies. Fishing gear, axes and saws, nails, daggers, and everything else you recovered from the wreckage. "I think we'll be able to manage." Nobody else is willing to leave the safety of the beach, though. Mysterious islands are intimidating, after all, and it's wiser to stick with two large groups. That way, the scouting party will be able to retreat to a safe place if needed.
-------------------------
It would normally take at least two days to reach the shrouded island, but John is able to lead you along some hidden trails that drastically speed things up (how did you find them, and are there any notable features?). The shortcuts enable you to conserve your limited rations (@Amy: subtract one ration per person). It's almost nightfall by the time you reach the northern beach. You can see the island, but the sun will have set by the time you reach it. Do you dare risk spending the night there, or will you make camp on the mainland?
Now's a good time to share some highlights (or lowlights) of your journey. :-) Don't worry - I haven't forgotten about Silvio....

John Fleet |

Fleet takes the lead, with Harriman the one-armed dwarf zombie shambling along ahead of him to clear a path with his undead strength. Relying on the zombie to bushwhack, Fleet takes this time to regale his newfound friends about the benefits of reanimated flesh. "Why, when my dear teacher Harriman was freshly zombified, I was set upon by a Bengal tiger! It was only through his valorous and stench-ridden defense of my person that the tiger was dissuaded from feasting on my flesh. It still almost got me, but Harriman managed to claw one of its eyes out and forced it to retreat into the jungle! Climb up on this rock, easy does it..." the necromancer helps everyone following single file behind him up some rocks on a minor cliff face that leads to a rocky path. The rocky path is barely visible underneath all the foliage, but Fleet got lucky when he noticed it was there. It cut a lot of time off of their journey.
The rocky path leads across a river that spills over into a beautiful waterfall that creates a rainbow in its spray. "I camped down there for a night before," the necromancer points out, gesturing to the pool at the bottom of the waterfall. "Wouldn't recommend it. Pretty spot, and nice drinking water, but I woke up completely damp, and there was also a huge insectoid predator of some kind that was interested in the watering hole as well. I was only able to escape being eaten by hiding under a tree root."
When they reach the northern shore, Fleet casts about himself. Did we emerge from the jungle anywhere close to where Harriman and I were marooned? We constructed a humble lean-to shelter near to the beach that we could use to spend the night at.
-1 Ration from my inventory

Amy Eir |

-2 Rations from my inventory for Amy and Silvio. Gleus can you subtract one from your inventory? Silvio and Gleus, did you take the items Amy ask about?
I agree with you John, the lean-to shelter might be the best place to camp. Do you know of a way to get extra food? Maybe there are some game near by to lay a trap for?
@ybd ~ if we lay a trap on a game trail, could we possibly get some animal and cook it for rations?

Your Benevolent Dictator |

@Amy: Of course! :-) I'd need to know what kind of trap and how it's set-up/baited. I'd rule it to be a +WIS roll. For whoever does it, I'd love to know how you acquired the necessary wilderness survival training, as identifying game trails and creating anything more than a simple pit trap requires a specialized skillset. It's definitely something I'd struggle to accomplish IRL. An in-character flashback would be ideal. :-)

Amy Eir |

Amy thinks back to her trip from her home town to Everlight. It had been a long year and half but she had learned so much. She remembered one event: The group that she was traveling with had a ranger with them named Rhovanor Shadespyre who had a red tail hawk named Evrantilen meaning oath-sworn. I was so bright eyed and ready to see the world. Rhovanor taught me to take care of my self. He spend several days over the trip teaching me how to hunt not that I was that good at it. I did better with the traps. One time that I caught a rabbit by bending a small baby tree down with bit of vine. The other end of the vine was tied in a slip knot that was help in place by a small piece of wood. This was called a hanging snare. A little piece of food is used to bait the trap. After Rhovanor showed me how to set it, we came back the next day a found a rabbit hanging by its leg in the air. Over the next several days I set my own traps and caught rabbits and other small game. I learned how to skin and prepare the fur and the food. Rhovanor also taught me how to set traps for larger animals also and how to notice game trails. The most best way to find a game trail is to head to water and look small trails that were created by travel of animals to the watering hole over and over again. Or look for animal dropping and foot prints, that means that an something has been there before but not promised to back again.
Amy walks down wind of the lean-to and sets up her snare. She uses of her ration to bait the trap. trap: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (5, 1) + 2 = 8

Your Benevolent Dictator |

Amy's trap works, but as game (or any kind of animal life) is scarce in this part of the island, she only catches a single iguana. While the meat is supposed to be tasty if properly prepared, there's only enough for one person.
There's a much more pressing problem at hand, however. Silvio, in his excitement at being on a proper adventure, completely failed to notice the Massive One-Eyed Tiger that's been stalking the group for the past several hours. As the party separates to check out the lean-to and set up traps for game, it strikes.
From out of the jungle, the beast charges past Silvio and Harriman and pounces on John, pinning him under its weight. It snarls angrily at the necromancer, teeth bared and ready to bite.
What do you do?

Silvio Callgari Pazzi |

Occupided with trying to build a campfire from the firewood he collected Silvio barely gets a glimpse at the giant cat when it swishes by and pounces on John. Fortunetely the dashing hero doesn't need ocular input to rush into action! Grabbing the necromancer's undead companion by his (its?) belt and coat he heaves the post life dwarf at the cat aiming to push the beast off his friend.
Some kind of defy danger (str): 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (1, 1) + 1 = 3
Ouch...
-2 Rations from my inventory for Amy and Silvio. Gleus can you subtract one from your inventory? Silvio and Gleus, did you take the items Amy ask about?
Yep, I'll update Silvio's sheet. I'm guessing they're one weight each?

Your Benevolent Dictator |

@Silvio: The Parry move is designed for blade-to-blade combat, but I think we can make it work here. Basically, if the tiger tries to claw you, and you attempt to deflect the blow with your sword, roll +DEX and choose from the list. Also, Amy has the tiger momentarily distracted, so you can regain your feet without having to roll anything.
Amy's movement draws the tiger's attention, and it swipes at her with a paw the size of her head. What do you do?

Amy Eir |

Seeing that Silvio was now able to regain his balance. Amy takes a defence stance again the tiger. Amy tries to divert the paw with her staff.
Defend: 2d6 + 0 ⇒ (2, 6) + 0 = 8
Open up the attacker to an ally giving that ally +1 forward against the attacker
