Wait... where is the 2d8 for your greataxe coming from?

Unless I'm missing something, Uro should have exotic proficiency with the great axe. He starts out with martial for being an orc, then is upgraded to exotic for being a barbarian.

I haven't read through Kirthfinder since an earlier version. I don't remember that "stance" section of the Feats, but some of those are pretty nice for casters. Some of the others are pretty situational, though.

M Goblin Beer Snob 1/Freethinker 3

Uro -- Yep! Correctamundo.
And, yeah, 2d8 upgrades to 3d8. In real life, I'd make it 4d6 because that's easier to roll, so you'd be able to pick which, in this case.

M Goblin Beer Snob 1/Freethinker 3

Andostre -- Yes, casters end up "paying" less for most [Stances] in terms of action economy, because they can't move while casting anyway. But, yeah, some of those feats are pretty situational, so there's that.

M Goblin Beer Snob 1/Freethinker 3

OK, play is open! See HERE.

Hooray!

I could swear that I saw a feat that gave you +1 to a physical ability score and then another +1 per 4 levels. I can't seem to find it now. Does anybody remember seeing that?

Check out Strength Training, Stamina Training, and Agility Training, under "General Feats." They're all +1 enhancement bonus per 3 ranks in relevant skill.

It's in my head. Like most things jumbled up there.

  • Minor noble family.
  • Dad is alive.
  • Mom is dead.
  • Scythe was her mothers.
  • All about fighting and hunting. (Needs to take a rank in Survival next level or whatever the equivalent is.)
  • Prefers Wee Jas, tries to hide it. Dressing in red and black does not help with this.

Character inspiration here.

Ugh. You just had to link that, didn't you -- knowing as you did that it would make me want to claw my own eyes out? ;P

So just listen to it. I mean really, you're just making this more difficult than it has to be.

M Goblin Beer Snob 1/Freethinker 3

Giving you a hard time about Anime is never difficult for me!
But, yeah, no volume here at work -- I'll listen to it at home, where the speakers work. Mrs Gersen will probably want to watch the whole series.

They do have DVDs of both seasons, if you're not hip to the streaming services yet. :)

M Goblin Beer Snob 1/Freethinker 3

LOL! I was griping once about having to wait for a DVD for something that wasn't available for streaming on Netflix, and my friend Frankie was all like, "A DVD? How quaint!" I didn't have the balls to admit I still own a VHS player, too...

Yeah, since I couldn't get my act together over vacation, I better stop wasting your time now that I'm going back to class.

Bummer, man. Was sure looking forward to having you in the PBP.

I'm just too out of practice at PBP to jump into an unfamiliar rule system right now. :(

Yeah, bummer.

Silver Crusade RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32

Hello friends! I'll be joining you soon if all goes according to plan, and I hope to have a character created soon. So for now, here are my attribute rolls:

4d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 6, 1) = 11 10
4d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 3, 6) = 15 13
4d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 4, 1) = 17 16
4d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 6, 4) = 12 11
4d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 3, 5) = 17 14
4d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 4, 4) = 13 12

Not bad at all. I was thinking of coming in with an archivist cleric. For my first domain, I'm thinking Greed, Liberation, Luck, Theivery, or Travel. I'm not sure what pantheon this game is using, but do y'all know of any appropriate deities for those themes? I'm considering something pirate-y or scoundrel-y.

Liberty's Edge

Male Human Commoner 2

The setting is Greyhawk. Olidammara is the primary thief/trickster god, with Kuroth being a treasure-seeking thief god.

Also, welcome aboard, matey!

Silver Crusade RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32

Olidammara looks perfect. I think I want to take the Thievery domain; it looks like a custom Kirthfinder domain (and isn't listed as a domain for any other theif-y type deities I could find in Greyhawk), but it seems like the perfect fit for Olidammara even though it's not technically listed under his domains. I'll wait for an official Kirthfirmation on that, and start putting together everything else!

Yes, Thievery is most definitely an Olidammara-y domain!

Welcome, mechaPoet! Andy thoughts as to what race you'll be?

Silver Crusade RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32

Well, I want to try out a cleric, but I've never played a full caster before. I was also thinking an archivist might be interesting, since it'll help cover some of the skill gaps in the party. My concept is a bit MAD, as I essentially want all my mental stats to be good. :P

So I think I'm just gonna be a plain old human, since it's simpler, and it makes more sense to me for this character. I've also moved away from the pirate-y concept, and now I'm thinking she'll be more of a librarian by day, rare book thief by night sort of deal. I'm hoping to get an alias up today. :)

Mutated Animal Turtle Smasher 10

Welcome aboard mechaPoet!!

Silver Crusade RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone!

I've got the mechanical side of my character sheet all ready, and all that's left is:
-Bonus languages (I get 2 more, and I have no idea what to pick! Any ideas?)
-Writing the background/appearance/personality. Based on background stuff: is Knowledge (Linguistics) fair game for a secondary skill, or should I go with something closer to Profession (Librarian)?

Also, a question about spell casting: based on the table for prepared casters, it looks like I'm limited at first level to only casting bonus 1st-level spells, which would be the ones granted by my domains?

I was hoping to get the alias up soon, but it looks like there's a bit of technical trouble right now with editing aliases. I'm sure they'll get it sorted soon.

mechaPoet wrote:

No idea, but I would find a Greyhawk wiki and see if there's a page about languages and choose prominent "ancient" languages. Or maybe do the same thing with any material for ancient empires.

And then check with Kirth to see if your understanding of how useful the languages will be is similar to his understanding.

Linguistics is extremely useful with Kirth as a GM, but between my bard and the Arvhivist's natural progression in that skill (that I'm assuming you get), you should consider the other professions or craft skills. They can give some fun side benefits.

But admittedly, Linguistics is extremely appropriate for an Archivist.

Domain spells for the Thievery Domain from page 146 of the KF document:

1st—detect secret doors
2nd—locate object
3rd—dispel magic
4th—death ward, freedom of movement
5th—shadow door
6th—passwall
7th—phase door
8th—mind blank
9th—foresight

M Goblin Beer Snob 1/Freethinker 3

Because an archivist is a prepared caster, you also get bonus spell slots for high Int. That means that, with Int 12+, at 1st level you can prepare your domain spell, plus one spell of your choice from your prayer book, each day.

Also note that, at 5th level, the Archivist automatically gains the Rune domain, which grants you 1 rank/level in Knowledge (Linguistics) for free. Likewise, your Knowledge domain grants you 1 rank/level in Knowledge (lore). If you do end up choosing the Thievery domain, you get 1 rank/level in Disable Device for that, too. Add that to your free ranks in Concentration and Knowledge (the planes) for being an archivist, plus your 2 + Int modifier skill points, and there's a LOT of bases you'll have covered, skill-wise -- between an archivist and a minstrel, it will be hard to miss anything needed.

I'm assuming Sasserine was settled by a variety of traders and so on, so that they speak Common there. You're relatively close to the Amedio Jungle, though, so Olman is very useful in speaking to the native islanders. Having everyone in the party able to speak Halfling might give you a chance to discuss things more or less privately, when non-speakers are listening in.

Spoiler: At least one person in the party will eventually need to learn Abyssal.

Silver Crusade RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32

So I get the bonus spells from Int because I'm a prepared caster? Neat! I've chosen Wisdom for my casting stat, in any case.

At 5th level, I guess I couldn't get Kn (Linguistics) as a secondary skill anymore. Hm. I think I'll just put it in Profession (Librarian) for now. We've already got a Deep One sorcerer, and Library Use is a very valuable skill in Call of Cthulhu!

For languages I've gone with Halfling and Abyssal. Olman would be good for speaking to the islanders, but this archivist is a city girl with what amounts to random book learning.

Here! is the profile of Korynne the Well Read, archivist of Olidammara! (Ignore the current name and picture, the edit alias button is busted at the moment and the tech team is working on a fix.) Let me know if it all looks good!

M Goblin Beer Snob 1/Freethinker 3

Profession (librarian) would get folded into Knowledge (lore), which you've already got -- how else do you get so good at lore except by reading all those library books?

Might I recommend a Craft skill, in case you want to pick up Imbue Item at some point? Or, if you must have a Profession, (music) is already covered by the minstrel of course, but (dance) might be good for entertainment value.

Or, barring those, Profession (mining) is always helpful in a dungeon...

Any special craft feat needed to make scrolls?

Actually, for an Archivist, any skill could be justified using yer fancy book learnin'.

Silver Crusade RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32

I've decided to go with Craft (Needlework). Easier to fix your clothes than buying new ones when you have nothing!

How would you prefer that we insert Korynne into the campaign? Perhaps she missed the dinner and arrives at the docks a little late?

Andostre wrote:

It sounds odd, but scrolls fall under Knowledge (linguistics), the rationale being that reading magic, deciphering scrolls you find, etc. is all already under that skill, and I just wanted to keep all the scroll stuff together.

M Goblin Beer Snob 1/Freethinker 3
mechaPoet wrote:

One possibility is that she was consulted by Jym at the library, regarding the statutes governing seizing of ships in the harbor or something -- you know, to cover his bases. And then, being CG and sensing potential profit, maybe she decides to show up there and see what's shaking...

M Goblin Beer Snob 1/Freethinker 3

Sorry for the hiatus. They blocked Paizo at work -- but that's OK, because I put my notice in (not for that reason!) and am now planning another move halfway across the country. When things settle down I hope to continue posting at a much higher rate, and hopefully we can keep things rolling.

Andostre and houstonderek -- be afraid! The new job, as it turns out, is in Katy...

M Goblin Beer Snob 1/Freethinker 3

So... I'm settled back in Houston, enjoying the new job, and able to post during the day (unless they block Paizo). Does anyone want to try again to get this thing rolling?

Again, apologies for the earlier false start.

I'm still up for it, Kirth.

The water level in the reservoir just south of my house is about 6" below the edge of the roadway (you can see treetops poking up out of the water!). So, another decent rainstorm will flood the area. But so far we're staying dry!

OK! Andostre, MechaPoet, what do you guys think?
