That's a mean little snaking snake!
But on the bright side - we now know that whoever just snuck in ahead of us probably didn't take this path (unless they were actually good at sneaking!).

Lucrecia Willow |

Yeah totally!
I've watched enough ESC to be pretty much immune to all dance based horrors .P
.
...
Though on that topic - would Chaïa have time to share her insight on the critters DR before spending a round stiff?

I'm a pushover; you can assume she blurted it out right before getting bit. Might be different if you're ever widely separated or there's a strong incentive for Chaïa to remain silent, but this is a pretty ordinary fight. Pretty sure dancing snake skeleton rhymes with a guy's flayed off face is a twice or thrice weekly event for most of us.
Also the entire country of France could not contain that much fabulous.

@Explode in a glorious shower of gore: We could always lessen the restrictions on the command spells.
If "Command: Explode" is a thing, I'll gladly help you out!
Range: The caster. :)

Lucrecia Willow |

It's an pre-written ap. That has scary snake-ghouls at 1st level. What makes you think there totally won't be some mean mind control before "higher level" :P?
Though I guess it is an reasonable assumption at least!

Lucrecia Willow |

Random thought - did our "priest" have any hat or similar on him?
Hat of Disguise would be one of the ways to impersonate someone. One of the easier-to-solve ways :P

Samnell |

Or did their priest seem to be wearing his face with leather straps attached on the sides?
That would also be a rather easily-solved way :)
You met Liam Sunmist here. He wasn't wearing any headgear at the time and didn't appear to accessorize with leather straps.

I toured the Northern Michigan State Insane Asylum today! It had actual steam tunnels which I, as a gamer, was allowed into. (They're on the tour.) I regret that I did not think to bring a d20 to roll whilst there but I did get a pic. The place stood empty for a decade and is about ten years into a planned twenty year restoration, so lots of it is lovely and full of shops. (I got a book for my research while there: The Frontier Against Slavery.) Had a second breakfast at a great place and was done just in time for the guided tour, which lets you into a derelict building to poke around. Great times.
It was also a full-day trip so I'm going to be making a quick sweep but if there's any lengthy resolution it'll probably wait until tomorrow.
Witchsayswhat?
Quickly! Distract her while I fetch a warhammer!
:P
Pretty sure I know enough of the technical details (or can get them from an actual medievalist friend) to do a proper draw & quartering.
You know, just sayin... :)

Saeri, Professional Harrower |

What?
But more seriously, I have some friends that lived close to a place that's been a prison, an asylum, and a native american burial ground. It's some pretty nice potential for haunting, yeah? XD

I know a couple of medievalists online. I could probably get a full technical writeup of how to properly draw and quarter from one of them. Much more exciting than just burning at the stake, though perhaps not as historically accurate a punishment to use for a witch. I understand Protestant countries preferred hanging, while Catholics liked the stake. Would have to decide which set of tropes fit better to this part of FR. It's actually neither, but if we're going there anyway... :)

Janus Alistair Eden |

Catholic is dominant around here...so maybe thats why, but the stake simply seems most approbiate.
I would much like for our witches to get burned to death.
Plus, Fire Resistance is a lot easier to come by than innate fortification against the coup-de-grace of beheading, or not needing to breath, and any other nasty measures.
@Drawing and quartering, one of your friends mind doing a proper writeup for a breaking wheel? Seems like longer-lasting fun :)

Lucrecia Willow |

Isn't that just four things that draw and then some way to attach to the limbs - or did you have something more fancy in mind?
Speaking of haunted places though ... Maybe there's some of that here too!

Might be, but I think the wheel is more of an early modern thing.

There's also castration, disemboweling, and non-fatal hanging involved. It's a big production. Admittedly it would be hard to castrate Saeri, or most of the party for that matter, but maybe you could get a group rate and someone else does that part? I mean if Janus is that interested...
Not like it would be the first PC I've castrated.

Janus Alistair Eden |

I'll pass. I mean, where's the fun in that.
Plus I don't even have perform(sing), so nah.
I did, however, play a bard princess with profession(torturer) as GMPC in my last hosted life game. She was keen on castrating someone, too. Much fun was had, there - she even offered a party member a substantial reward if he were to agree(he did not, AND he made the will save vs. charm person).
That hobby of hers came of my chart, though(Lu knows which one), so it's fun my interpretation was such and you bring it up now.
@wheel: in that form, as execution, classical times(possibly as early as 6th century) to 18th century. But hey, just trying to get some variation added here. Plus there's no inmediate death, and you can pause. Great fun if a party members is mounted there because the others CAN take some time to mount the rescue, but the party member won't be happy waiting while his limbs are broken one per day while on public display.

Lucrecia Willow |

@Skinning - I'm not sure if this is actually a synonym for squeezing money out of people in English, like fleecing, but that's the way Lu is using it. And the beetle certainly wasn't simply trying to fleece Janus and Chaïa! So there is it :P

Janus Alistair Eden |

Aside from the boards having been unstable all the time after a weekend trip I took with my family, I fell ill, too. Full procedure, antibiotics, high fever, bed rest. When the Pain killers kick in, I may check the boards(as permanent bed rest gives my back pain). But posting may be spotty for a couple days.

Janus Alistair Eden |

Hej. Feeling fine again. Got worse before it got better.
Plus, once I was feeling a bit less ill, I had the bright idea of working on updating my computer system while I was home anyway, which caused some further problems with being able to go online.(Installing W7 on a M2 drive from USB is a mess by itself, certain boxed intel chips come without cooler, and I had no PCIe solution for Wifi(I use cards, not usb connectors)).
Either way, I'm back now and will catch up with all my games plus post today(within about 12 hours). Apologies for going missing. I did update some of my games when I originally fell ill, but not all - assuming I could post somewhat normally for those not moving at too fast a pace.

Chaïa Pomala |

No worries, and I'm glad to hear you're feeling better! I thought I had posted wishes for a speedy recovery earlier this week, but the forums seem to have swallowed that post whole. Hmm. I wonder how big the post-monster is, and how many posts it can swallow at once...
Also, I'm not even going to pretend I have an inkling about computers at the level you're talking about. o.O Hope it wasn't too hair-pullingly frustrating.

Janus Alistair Eden |

Technically, I am fine with that, if the face-eating does not involve other PC's and Janus keeps being a PC under my control.
I am not one of those life supremacists, if I get to be an intelligent undead for eating a face now and then, I'm willing to work something out.
@Chaia: Thanks :) It's the intent that counts. You got the Karma even if the Post Monster ate the message. Also, it was very frustrating, but it's all better now - both computer and me. :)

Lucrecia Willow |

Welcome back again : )
And happy midsummer everyone! : )
---
Level 2 huh? So there's probably an extra +1 on that roll - not that it looks like Lu needs it :P
Although! I'm having some second thoughts about my additional class ... I haven't really utilized any of it. I'm thinking of asking of switching it to the Skald instead - thoughts? Would that be acceptable?

Go for it. Don't worry about retraining rules or anything. Lu was just always half skald, retroactively. :)
Same goes for anyone who wants to tweak something that working out or feels underused. I'm much more interested in distracting you with a pleasant play experience so I can subject you to untold horrors than I am in keeping all the fiddly bits exactly RAW.

Levelup Summary:
Magus 2 / Witch 2
HP: 8 + 0 Con (per recruitment rules, max per hit dice)
FCB: +1 Skill Point
New Magus Ability: Harrowed Spellstrike (I can smack people with spells from far away! Finally. XD)
New Witch Ability: Deadly Dealer. Better than the 1st Level Magus Ability that also gives her use of that feat, because now I get Arcane Strike to go with it. Alas, have to wait until 3rd level to use her real cards, because they're still destroyed right now.
Otherwise, just new spells and various skill points. I did memorize a few that might be useful for the current situation. ^^
