There is only one way to become skilled at something and that is to fail repeatedly. Talent is when someone is good at something in the beginning, and it rarely takes them very far. After that, you practice, but you don't really learn much from winning. Eventually, you reach a point where you hit your best effort and that's where you sit. If you want to get better after that point, you have to go back, unlearn your mistakes, and start building again.
Quoted for truth. Well said.

I do not play LOL, so I don't really know how much difference a level signifies, but it seems to me that winning 40% of your games against people significantly higher level than you is pretty good.
I have mixed feelings towards games against other players. I enjoy group PVP in MMOs but do not like taunting or poor sportsmanship. Most MMOs remove those elements from group PVP and so I have a lot of fun.
I almost always lose 1v1 fights because it is not the focus of my game and I therefore do not get better at it. If those were the only kind of fights, I probably would not play because I don't think that is fun.
However, that is not the same as quitting something I do enjoy because I have been losing. If I truly enjoy it, I strive to get better. The only way to do that is to learn from my mistakes.
I take it as an immutable truth that everyone eventually finds themselves on their knees. Character is determined by whether you stay there or get back up. Winning all the time may make life fun just as being rich may make life easy. Character however, is what makes life worthwhile. It is why we live and the impression we make on those around us. It is worth infinitely more than the other two.

Too bad you can't remove taunting from your own teammates... Sure you can mute the person but then what if they actually need your help later in the match, they are SoL... That is what makes LoL's player base so bad, not the cross team taunting but the internal taunting about how bad their own teammates are.
