Profile
7 years ago a meteor fell from the sky and destroyed all of Kyonin, the home to the Elves. Those who survived were displaced all across Golarion. Among the many that left was the Human and Elven family, join by the vows of marriage, Wilson. They didn’t know where they were going to end up but all in the family were scared. Having abandoned their home they ventured out into the wilderness and hoped that everything would be alright. Garrett Wilson, the youngest of five, was 7 when this happened and the event has never escaped his mind for an instant. Since the incident he couldn’t speak, no matter how hard he tried. As time passed by he had grown complacent and grew a shell around his inner most feelings, not that anyone would know how he felt anyway.

When he turned 9 his family started training their children in the ways of two weapons that the Wilson family was supposedly known for using. They were the Short Spear and the Totem Spear. All boys in the Wilson family were named some variation of Garrett because in some ancient tongue it meant “Strength of the Spear”. Garrett quickly learned the Totem Spear, and started using it as a replacement for his voice. He can’t “say” anything overly complicated but when he has a positive comment about something he usually responds with a high pitched, fast paced line of music and when he has a negative comment about something it is usually a low pitched, very slow line of music. It took a while for his family to realize that is what he was doing but when they understood what he was doing they were happy.

Years passed as he mastered the use of the Totem Spear to levels beyond what his parents were able to accomplish. He learned how to survive off the land and how to hunt for animals, using his trusty Totem Spear and cleaning it after every hunt. On his 12th birthday his family celebrated and went on a hunting trip. On that hunting trip a bear attacked from out of nowhere. Now it was outnumbered seven to one but it looked starved and was willing to do anything for a meal. It attacked and hit Garrett’s eldest brother, Garret. Their mother took him and his two sisters out of the battle leaving Garrett main protagonist of this story , Garett third eldest child, and Garet father to fight the bear. After a long battle the three had finally won! After the battle Garet said “Now that was a fight don’t you agree boys?” Garrett thought of saying “You can say that again dad.” because he didn’t have enough strength after the battle to swing around his Totem Spear, but as he thought of saying it sounds came out of his mouth that resembled what he had thought. Everyone gasped in response to Garrett’s voice, it sounded weak and crackled but that is to be expected from not using it for this long. Not believing that he had just spoken Garrett tried talking again and said “Did I just speak?” Garet and Garett were crying and saying “Yes you did just speak! Can this day get any better?” They returned home with the bear that they had killed. Their mom said “I’m so glad that you all are okay!” Then Garet said “Well we didn’t just bring home the bear now did we?” Both boys said in unison “Nope!” It took the mother a little while to realize what just happened, she heard Garett’s voice but at the same time she heard another that wasn’t quite familiar to her, but sounded like something she had heard before. Once she had finally figured it out she burst out into tears and told everyone to gather around Garrett to hear what he has to say. Needless to say Garret, and his two sisters were confused but the mom finally clarified with “the Totem Spear Master”. They were still confused but understood why she had said “say”. When they heard his voice they two started crying and Garret finally summed up the experience with “Now you don’t have to rely on that weapon to be heard little bro!” It was the happiest moment of the family’s life, and they ended the night with a lovely bear stew.

Two years after that event and the family received a strange visit. Hokuto, claiming to be from an “Academy of Arts”, came by and asked the family if she could see Garrett’s performance with the Spear Totem, the parents allowed him this audience thinking that if Garrett could become some sort of Bard that he would be safer with a group of adventurers than with them. So Garrett performed for this complete stranger, the best performance with the Totem Spear that he had ever done. When it was over she stood up and clapped. “Your son has excellent potential, I was moved by that performance! Now in him I sensed a magical quality within him during the performance. Have you ever taught him magic?” The mother responded with “I didn’t think that any of them had a magical spark so I didn’t even try to teach them what I could do.” Hokuto responded with “I see well no matter I can sense that this boy has a very strong magical potential, he just has to learn how to unlock it. At the Golarion Academy of Arts in Druma I believe that we can accomplish this. I can offer safe passage and a full tuition, not to mention being able to feed him. What do you say? It’s a chance to give Garrett a better life in these hellish times.”

After conversing for what seemed like hours the family came to a general consensus that Garrett should go, if he can make it to being a Bard he will have a better, and safer, life than just staying with his family. It came down to a vote and 4 out of the 7 were in favor of Garrett leaving; the mother, eldest brother and youngest daughter were against the notion.

Giving Hokuto their answer he said “Perfect, now just come with me Garrett. No need for you to bring anything. I will provide you with everything you will need until you graduate. Now say good bye to your family, you won’t see them for a long while.” Garrett says his good byes, all of the family crying but giving him words of encouragements. He waves good bye as he and Hokuto walk away from the house.

When Hokuto and Garrett were far enough away from the house, Hokuto asked “Garrett, I have a deck of cards here and I want to perform a magic trick for you. Now pick a card.” She says spreading out the deck. Garrett picked a card and looked at it. It looked like a Keep. ”Good now don’t show me and put it back in the deck.” She says with a slight grin on her face knowing which card he pulled. She shuffles the deck a couple of times, taps the top of it and pulls the top card. ”Is this your card?” Garrett notices that it is in fact his card and says yes. Her grin widens even more, ”Now let me tell you more about this card.” As she rambles on about The Keep, his eyes start to get heavier and heavier. Half-way through her speech he falls asleep. She scoffs, ”Kids these days…” They are then teleported to the College of Shadows and Garrett awaits his destiny, asleep with The Keep card on his chest.

I figured that she is the recruiter, or one of them, for this place.

Appearance
A young Half-Elf child, he takes the best qualities of the dual blood running in his veins and looks cuter than either race would have ever hoped to achieve alone. He wears a garb that traditionally Elven children wear at his approximate age comparison. He has piercing ice blue eyes and light blonde hair. His ears are rounder than Elves but pointer than Humans as most Half-Elves are but instead of it looking different it looks more natural, as if it were the next step in the Human’s evolutionary chain. His face is rounder than most Half-Elves making him look more human but there are still distinct features that make it appear Half-Elven, particularly around the eyebrows.

Personality
Garrett is shy and doesn’t convey his feelings as often as others. He keeps his true emotions bottled up and lets very few ever see them. This is because for 5 years in his life he couldn’t speak and could learned to communicate very basic things by creating music through a Totem Spear. He speaks when spoken to but doesn’t actively look for conversations with anyone he isn’t familiar talking to. When he speaks for any extended period of time his voice does get raspy and it hurts him to speak any more until after he has rested his vocal cords for a couple hours, at which point he reverts back to his Totem Spear to "talk" if he has one. If he doesn't have his Totem Spear then he will suffice with ink and pen or a chalkboard. He doesn’t mind change but he prefers it not to happen. When going out to the wilderness it reminds him of the hunting trips he use to go on with his family and he gets homesick.
