Defense Maneuver: 1d20 + 8 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 8 + 4 = 28
With a whoop, Duke flips out of the way of the beams reaching for his Valkyrie.
He then pulls a high-g turn and rolls in to make his own attack.
Pilot: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
"This ain't my first rodeo hoss!" He shouts as he fires.
Laser Cannons: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9 for a possible 4d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 1, 3) = 8 points of laser damage.
"Elray" Leo Raines |
He snorts seeing Duke's hot dogging.
Caught watching a split second... another lance of the enemy starts to flood his heading. Elray drops his speed. He fires at the wingman of Duke's target, and rolls to fall into position - four o'clock high to Duke.
He glances at the screen showing the blips to his rear. "Aaaa... ! " he struggles to think of a rodeo metaphor for enemy reinforcements...
piloting: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Laser Cannons: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16

Ajit |
Seeing the REF pilot in imminent danger, Ajit maneuvers by and fires upon the invid running Elray down. Even as it hauls a big drum gun around, the strange red bioroid moves with a fluid grace that most mecha can't match.
acrobatics: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14

is my drum gun ballistic or laser?

IT would have to be energy based. Based on how long the Tiresians had their empire.
Oh yeah, you hit. :)

Defense Maneuver: 1d20 + 8 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 8 + 4 + 1 = 28 I assume success
Duke does a corkscrew spin to evade the mighty close shots from the enemy strafing attack.
He then pulls a high-g turn and rolls in to make his own attack.
Pilot: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27 Easily sliding into enemy's six-o'clock.
"Strike two boy!" He shouts as he fires.
Laser Cannons attack: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 4 + 2 = 13 Assuming a miss.
Duke swears as his easy shot is spoiled by his eagerness.
"Elray" Leo Raines |
Pilot: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Elray sees Duke maneuver in behind the enemy, and tries to adjust his own heading to be ready to assist.
"Anything I can do to help you shoot your targets down faster there Duke?"
When Duke's target banks in front of Elray, he is a moment too slow to take full advantage of the clean shot.
Laser Cannons: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
damage if hits: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 6, 2) = 13
After the missed opportunity he glances again at the "bigger picture" blipping all over the screen.
"Gettin swallowed up here...."

The red bioroid flips over the strafing fire of nearby enemies to slide into the danger zone to provide suppressing fire to take the heat off of the young REF pilots.
Wayne "Duke" Lenez |
"Let's all gang up on one of 'em!" Duke called out to his squadron. "Maybe we can actually HIT one then!"
"Big John, this is Duke." Duke called the carrier. "Boss, you got a count? Just how many of 'em ARE there? I see thruster flares everywhere!"

Getting overconfident, the red bioroid's pilot makes a sketchy maneuver that exposes him overmuch to enemy fire.
Wayne "Duke" Lenez |
Duke pulls the g's, trying to stay on his chosen victims tail.
Pilot: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
"Not this time rabbit..." He muttered as he fires.
Laser Cannons attack: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 4 + 2 = 18 for a possible 4d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 5, 1) = 11 points of laser damage..
"Elray" Leo Raines |
Elray brings up Duke's target to help his multi-tasking.
He drops his speed to loop tighter, and gets a shot off before flipping the input switches on his personal laptop.
Elray then sets his headphones to the attenuation setting as a pass-through for the audio portions of his data collection, and his mic to verbal commands.
"Gonna set up some game tapes here... try not to get shot down or look bad."

Wary of overextending himself, the pilot of the red bioroid takes a more defensive approach to his strafing fire, and moves into a better position.
Wayne "Duke" Lenez |
Duke continues to stay on his chosen victims tail.

Unable to maintain his position behind his target, he rolls out and comes at him in a more difficult crossing attack. He continues to fire at his target.
Laser Cannons attack: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 4 + 2 = 23 for a possible 4d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 5, 2) = 12 points of laser damage..
"Elray" Leo Raines |
Confident Duke has his target handled, Elray peels, and ends up on a collision course with an enemy obscured by wreckage. Muscle memory and panic fire off his cannons before he can even think.

Invid attacks Ajit!
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
One more round of this and you will see the Ground Mobile Unit being deployed off the SDF-3.
The next thing you notice, the Invid strike at the SDF-3, blowing the engines and disabling it's Fold Drive! You see the SDF-3 leak atmosphere and the bright orange fire that comes from the oxidization of the SDF-3's atmosphere!
"Elray" Leo Raines |
Elray 's scanner finally warms up, he switches it to record data from scanning as timestamped footage along with visual recording.
He then see the SDF-3 on fire. Instantly in shock, he nearly forgets where he is, and fires a moment past a window of opportunity.

"Negative Duke, you're assigned to the ground crew, repeat, you're assigned to the Ground Mechanized Unit."
You see the GMU drop from the ship and head down to the planet's surface. The SDF-3 forward gun batteries begin to open up. You hear a general order for all groups to leave the area immediately.
Wayne "Duke" Lenez |
"Roger that Big John, we're with the GMU. Out."
Duke switches to the squadron link.
"New orders boys and girls! We're heading planetside with the GMU. Form up with them as escorts, be ready to fend off any interceptors. Break!"
Duke hauls back on the stick and hits the burners to get to his assigned position.

Going down is like trying to enter atmosphere. In fact you are entering it. On the way down, your mecha has flames all around it, but they are designed for reentry. It's not an easy way to fall, but you do. You soon find yourselves safely within the atmosphere, though. So far, none of the invid have been following you.
You see a city of Roman like construction before you. :)
