RnR Test Campaign: The Ruins of Zuras

Game Master DarkLightHitomi

A test play game for Roads and Ruins.

A ragtag group of adventures discover the legendary city of Zuras.

In the kingdom of Lorati, in the city of Graphunduur, there is a tavarn, this one is on the ground and made mostly for the larger folks in town. This is the Oak Barrel Tavern.

Inside there are some Fealin, several kobalds (most with their paired Zypher), a few dwarves, and even an elf family.

The bar comes out in the middle of the room, with a dwarf tender, one side of the room is tall and for medium sized creatures while the other has the floor raised significantly and made for the fealin (who stand between 1'3" to 1'7") with the bar inbetween.

Suddenly a kobald dressed as an official courier riding her Zyphor rushes into the bar in a very excited fashion. "There's been an amazing discovery up north. Sky mountain had a landslide and revealed a passageway, a constructed passageway!"

Sky mountain is well known as the tallest mountain. It resembles Devils Tower a bit but is so high, it makes Mt. Everest look small. Many have theorized that it was constructed, but no evidence was ever found, noteven ruins have been found near the mountain. Until now, according to the courier.

Many folks start buying the courier drinks and ask details, which seem rather sparse, but one thing is clear, the courier claims, "The Northern Guard have closed it off until the University scholars arrive. Knowing them, they'll probably hire locals for protection and labor. People are already gathering up for it at the mountain."

This is where your story starts, what do you do?

Male Ifrit Paladin 1

a tall and regal looking elf walks into the tavern, he has a greatsword in a sheathe across his back, a pair of hunting daggers and a small pouch that could hold minor spell components hanging from his belt. His cloak looks like it was taken from the pelt of a bear, though his clothes look unsophisticated.

He walks up to the bar.

"Barkeep, I need a strong drink, a local brew preferably. Name is telthes by the way."

While he waits for his drink he looks around the bar at the various people in it.

You very rarely need material componants for spells, and generally when you do, it is because you are transfiguring that material into something else, which would require as much material as you would be converting.

The barkeep hands over a glass of dark beer, "Try this. It's made by Rhoad and Sons. They are quite popular around here."

As you look around, you see a kobald courier with a large group surrounding her and asking lots of excited questions.

Male Ifrit Paladin 1

"There some kind of excitement in town today?"

Ok that works. Also what would the average lifespan of an elf be in this setting? I picture Telthes as being in his late 20s if he was human.

This would Lecky.

Leealda removes her cloak upon entering the bar, revealing her leather armor filled with intricate patterns, you'll be amazed on where she got it. She puts her bow and quiver on the table and upon doing so reveals some light blades strapped on her sides and a few daggers strapped on her legs. She more than likely looks like she just came from a hunting mission if you would observe closely.

Noticing the commotion around the courier, she approaches the crowd, while touching most of them along her way. Those that were touched left in an instant, with a very happy and excited feeling, kinda like the feeling of winning the lottery although they don't know why,
"Move along now fellas, a man needs to enjoy his drink." as she sits down to enjoy the drink with the courier.
"What's that all about?"

Can illusion spells alter your emotions?

No that would be transmutation or conjuration. This is more scifi magic. Changing emotions requires altering the chemical balance in someone. Possible but difficult. Middle range magic really. You could be very charismatic and pretty instead though. :)

The bartender looks over at the courier, "She claims a landslide on Sky Mountain revealed a bunch of passageways. Supposedly the University is gonna set an expedition to explore it. Normally wouldn't believe it myself but Sheena there is well known to me, and she doesn't tell tall tales." The bartender finishes mixing a few drinks and sends it away with the waitress over to Sheena's table.

Leealda has a rather difficult time getting to the table, but catches as the courier explains for the upteenth time how a landslide revealed hidden passageways in Sky Mountain, the subject of many stories, and contsantly getting intterupted by folks with questions and such.

Male Ifrit Paladin 1

"Interesting, can you give me directions to this university? It sounds like intriguing work."

The elf continues to listen from his position at the bar.

"The University itself is in the capital but if you want in on the expeditions, you should head straight to Sky Mountain. The University folks almost always hire locally to their item of interest." The bartender gets pulled away by another customer buying a drink. You do know that Sky Mountain is north and the Green Road goes by the foot of it.
