***The Rusty Dragon Inn***

It's been a fairly decent early spring. The town of Sandpoint itself is full of the hustle and bustle of early spring as ships come and go on the tides and farmers begin to plant crops. The thoughts of things like Chopper or the Cathedral fire starting to settle into distant memory. With the dedication of the Cathedral tomorrow the evenings festivities are light and lively. The Rusty Dragon is especially full tonight. The gangs all here. Even the Sheriff and Mayor have stopped by to have a nice ale or two with the Liaison to Magnimar. Adrien that's you. The balmy yet cool coastal air flows nicely off the bay and up Salmon Street to blow the salt licked breeze through the freshly cleaned and opened windows of The Dragon. Ameiko spends most of her time going from table to table laughing and cutting up with her clientele who she treats just like her family.

One of the favorite adopted daughters of Sandpoint has just left the small stage where she sang "Varsian Maiden" to the applause of everyone here. Esme please add 11 silver to your CS in tips for singing

OOC info:
All of you who have stated in your backstory that you work for Ameiko or at the Dragon may earn 2d6 copper in tips for doing your job at the Dragon tonight before the start of the game officially. Every night you work at the Dragon please roll 2d6 and you will receive that as tips at the end of the night. If you have a Skill that helps you perform said job then copper becomes Silver.

As Adrien finishes clapping, he tosses up an extra silver piece-1sp, puts his hands up around his mouth and shouts "Bravo, bravo" with a smile.
He turns to Kendra and Belor "I'm glad you both found some time to join us. You definitely picked the right night. I'm sure you've already met some of my companions, but allow me to take the opportunity to introduce the rest of them."
Adrien points out each one of the party members and introduces them each by name.

Copper let's out a sharp whistle after Esmeralda finishes her performance. Rohan gives a smile and some applause along with the crowd. When their favorite waitress/songstress gets back to her other job, Copper gets her attention. "That song was amazing. So is this food! Tell Ameiko she's outdone herself. What is this again?"

"Curry chicken. Your song was lovely." Rohan replies. "Right. I knew that. Anyways, we'll let you get back to work. Though if you could, I need some more bread. Please?" The wyrmling asks. "Copper, I'm sure she has better things to do than to wait on you all night." His human compatriot scolds. "I said please."

Talon politely smiles.

His early upbringing among one of the mercantile families in Magnimar put him in many social situations that required care - whether in front of nobility or the affluent merchant class. Though capable, while not exactly polished, he prefers to allow others to handle the diplomatic. Adrien's piloting in this arena suits him fine.

"Its a pleasure" he confirms, shaking their hands following the introduction as he bows his head slightly in deference.

He then looks to Esme and gives her a warm smile from across the room as if to say 'well done'.

Female Human Bard 1

Esmeralda exited the stage with a bow and a smile, a colorful scarf on her arm, her sky blue hues scanning the crowd to view who was in the crowd.

She leaned forward slightly, her long silky locks of raven colored hair flowed over her shoulders, a few strands fell before her eyes, and with a hand she brushed them away in annoyance. She wore a dark blue gown, the frabic wrapped around her form, hugging her curves, around her waist was a gold chain, the gown was sleevless, revealing her flawless slightly tanned skin, around her neck was a gold band.

A few moments later, she sighed softly, as she walked over to the tables to begin taking orders. She continued onwards, counting the coins in her pouch from the performance as she relayed to the cook a set of orders. She ended up at the table of Rohan and Copper and gave them a warm smile at their antics.

"Anythin for you, sugar. Maybe I'll get you somethin extra on me, aye?" she replies to the golden wyrming as she pets him fondly. What could she do? She had a soft spot for the little guy.

"Thank ye for the complements. They are always appreciated." she replies to them both with a wink before writing down the order and after giving a little wave turns to continue her work. Esme notices Talon give her a smile and her heart warms a bit as she returns the smile and gives a small wave in return. She was looking forward to the festival. A lot.

Rhasa stops, with two trays of food precariously balanced on her arms, as she was introduced. She seems a bit flustered with the crowd as she normally only serves during the day. With the upcoming Cathedral dedication and the larger than normal crowd, however, she was required to help out with the tables.

"Pleased to meet you," she said with a curtsy. She then stood there for a moment before remembering the food she was carrying. "Um.. If you will excuse me, sirs..." And with a sheepish smile, she moved off to another table, passing the dishes down to the patrons. She then collected empty dishes from another table and pocketed the tips before speeding off into the kitchen to deliver the dishes.

Talon surveys the room, noticing Rohan and Copper at a table near the small raised platform that serves as a stage. There are a couple of open chairs. He walks over, "Rohan, good to see you. Copper a treat as always." and sits down in one of the chairs that gives him the best view of the room and the door to the street.

Assuming that since by this time we are 'family' that it is a given that each others company at the table is always an open invitation.

He sinks heavily into the wooden chair, weary from a long day at the docks. His thoughts on a strong ale to take the edge off.

Sheriff Belor Hemlock: claps and smiles warmly at one of his favorite young talents at The Dragon. "Bravo Esme! Good again, girl!" he turns to Adrien "I have known some of these you introduce me to all their lives, boy." he chuckles knowing that everyone here has likely had way more libation than they should. Any other night he would have cleared half the room, but it had been a long time since the town was able to be truely festive without a true house of worship. So he grudgingly listened to the woman next to him chatting openly with the local drunk.

Mayor Kendra Deverin: turns back from the man she was just talking to with an alcohol induced smile and a glazed look to her eyes somewhat and said "Oh lighten up Belor, You know you just wanna go pet the kitten anyways.."her slightly effected speech trailing off into sheepish drunken girly giggles before she covers her mouth and lays her hand on Adrien's arm saying "I am sorry Sir, must be one to many ales. Please excuse me, but I need to retreat to the loo if you men don't mind." With that she goes to push her chair back and rise....

Sheriff Belor Hemlock:having known the Mayor as long as he has he simply smiles and shakes his head knowing full well the benefits the town will receive in extra kindness after his boss has gotten pleasantly tipsy and embarrassed herself. Nods to Talon and shakes his hand firmly enough to be uncomfortable."Talon, is it?"

Mayor Kendra Deverin: Stops backing her chair to miss the thin little elf girl that bounces along swiftly behind her acknowledging introduction before scurrying off again. Looks to Belor "Ok I have been mistaken for a man twice now. Is it the hair?"

Having missed the performance Noro enters the Rusty Dragon in a hurry she notices Rhasa waitinting tabes she runs over to her.

Rhasa, Ish Lou here? I need to shpeak to him, Noro asks with a Lisp.

Noro glances around the room and calms down a bit when she notices the Sheriff and the Mayor in here. apparently Noro got into some trouble again.

Noro notices Talon at his usual spot and she quickly turns away and tries to pretty herself up before she says anything to him.

Glancing to Talon H...H...hi Talon she manages to stutter out.

Noro starts to head for the Kitchen not watching where she is going and manges to stumble over a chair. she quickly gets up and gives that quick "I meant to do that" look.

After Noro heads to the kitchen looking for her brother a couple of men obviously from the docks enter one with a bloody nose an the other a black eye. they scan the room and noticing the Sheriff and the other town officials they decide to make a hasty exit.

ooc best pic of Noro I could find:

Talon, noticing Noro preening out of the corner of his eye, conceals a wry smile. In response to her salutation he replies “Wondering when we'd see you” and notices that she seems a little short of breath, a couple beads of sweat on her brow.

He notices the two men enter the Dragon and nudges Rohan, nodding in their direction. Readied, he expects their arrival is not a surprise to Noro, and that she will quickly make herself scarce.

Female Human Bard 1

She just kind of sat behind the counter, watching the scene before her for a good bit before she righted herself and began to snicker at Noro. Esme felt divided about her friend. She wanted the tomboy to be happy but it seemed she would have to give her some more lessons on flirting if Noro had the patience for it. While she did like Talon, she reasoned, at least she wasn't madly crushing over him as her friend Noro was. Indeed, when the girl left to find her brother in the kitchens , it all became clear.

This was madness.

Wait, madness?

THIS. IS. SPAR-

Oh, wait. Wrong story.

Shaking the thoughts from her head, she noticed Rhasa picking up some of her slack so she decided to get back to work. She was working tonight so she have tomorrow off and would not be found slacking off by her adoptive big sister. Esme didn't like hearing lectures from Ameiko. No one did. The young women grabbed some orders and began handing them out ending once again with Rohan, Copper, and now Talon. Placing the plate of warm bread and a extra treat for Copper she looks between the two and asks "What I miss?"

Sczarni

Adrien attempts to stabilize Kendra as she stands up, using the same arm she had just grabbed.
"My wits must be abandoning me. I think I've had more to drink than usual." He responds to Belor.
As Kendra wobbles off, he thinks to himself "I've had far too much to drink too."
Adrien lifts his hand to gain Rhasa's attention"Rhasa, you holding up alright? There's more people than I think I've ever seen. Do you happen to have anything sobering to drink? Perhaps a glass of hot ginger or lemon balm? I'm sure you know just what I need."
Amidst all the chaos, Adrien tries to keep a keen eye to what's going on in the tavern between conversations. He figures someone is bound to cross the line soon enough, and would rather not suffer that the girls be left to take care of the mess when all is said and done.

Copper has a huge grin on his face as he is handed the bread and his special treat. Rohan shakes his head. "Jealous?" Copper asks smugly. Rohan responds by pushing him off the stool. "Worth it!" Is what you hear from the floor as he pulls himself back up. Rohan just smirks to himself.

Talon surveys the room while minding the two men who appear to be trailing Noro. The Dragon is fuller than usual, and with the surge in the town's population due to the festival, he doesn't recognize several of the faces. The Sheriff and Mayor appear to be at ease, but Talon hasn't survived this long by seeing only through the eyes of others.

Female Human Oracle (Heavens Mystery)/1

After scouring her stew pot with warm water and soap, Zelaria rises from her stoop and stands to her full height beside the massive container, near equal to her trim waist. Sometimes Zelaria wonders if she is in fact the tallest halfling in the world, or... indeed, how her predecessor had managed to use such a pot on the ship. She exhales sharply and wipes her pruned hands on a clean dish towel, then uses it to mop sweat from her brow. Cleaning the galley and her tools after each successive meal is an effort, but one that she knew the crew appreciated when their seafood bisque did not taste like the remains of the chicken noodle soup.

Zelaria replaced the cover on the stove top, and fluttered her loose dress over her modest bust for ventilation. Most above envied her position as cook because she was able to remain below deck in the warm while they were climbing the rigging in storms, but Zelaria was also responsible for maintaining the heat without setting the boat aflame. She opens the grate and stuffs a rather large log on the embers, far too much fuel, she knew, ensuring that there would be little work to be done to stoke the flames when she returns, and removing her apron, moves to her little cabin beside the kitchen.

And finds it in a state of emergency. Zelaria knew that the boys were agitated about their impending return to Sandpoint, and had oft times before pulled such tricks as hiding her plain clothes so she felt some private shame leaving the ship in her soiled uniform, or her soap, once Eugeni had even stolen her charm anklet. Zelaria tries to remain calm as she picks up after their tantrum, knowing that acknowledging the behavior only encourages them to indulge in greater horrors.

Quite confident in the fact that she is alone in the galley, Zelaria answers their whispered conversation. Yes, she was going to town, and she did intend to see Balor. And there would be a festival for the opening of the Cathedral they had watched being built the last six months. Rhasadilara was working at Ameiko's Dragon, and she was well. Zelaria has recognized that even when behaving badly the boys are rarely malicious. The discipline inherent in supplying the ship's crew with nourishment, even if she was regarded as one of the lower members, has done wonders for the boys temperament as a whole.

Of course, they do not understand that the amount of time she spends cleaning reduces her meager shore leave, and theirs. Zelaria undresses to a chorus of groans, and quickly changes in her shore clothes. Two skirts dangle from her hip, stuffed into an overlarge and garish belt, the top being purple and underneath a layered patchwork of orange and pink washed so frequently they almost matched. Zelaria tucked the purple up against her hip beneath the belt, along with her coin purse, making it nearly impossible to pick without being noticed. Her top is jade and its large knotted collar resembling lace is almost as long as the hem, which leaves no part of her tanned stomach to the imagination, dull as it was lacking piercings and tattoos. She simply has not found the time to sit for one.

It is no great challenge to navigate the gang plank used for unloading goods, and Zelaria responds to the various cat calls from the crew with a cheery wave as she descends. Zelaria picks a round about route to the Dragon, admiring the general splendor of a Cathedral dedicated to her lady, as well as a stop by Sheriff Belor's office. She is quite surprised to find him at the Dragon. Seeing that he is occupied, she steps to the bar and orders a glass of milk, noting in her peripheral vision that the boys are flitting about the pretty girls. She waves to Rhasadilara, but recognizing that she is on duty, does little more than smile and acknowledge her presence.

"It appears that I have missed some celebration," Zelaria opines as she approaches the table, bending to help Copper to his feet, all four of them. "Good eve Sheriff, Talon," and slightly softer, "Adrien."

Sczarni

Adrien looks Zelaria in the eye with a warm smile. His elevated eyebrows show renewed sense of enjoyment since he realized he'd had one too many ale's. Most would just be getting started after a couple of mugs, but Adrien is not willing to leave his actions to chance in a social setting, and couldn't forgive himself if he let someone down because he was drunk.
"Zelaria, you look lovely tonight. If I didn't know you could take care of yourself on the street I'd forcibly employ myself as your bodyguard. I bet my sword would see more action shadowing you than it ever did guarding my previous employer."

Female Human Oracle (Heavens Mystery)/1

Zelaria purses her lips and takes in the state of Adrien. She has not the greatest senses in the world, but it is not difficult for one used to being in close quarters with sailors to determine his gait and very forward manner of speaking that Aiden has likely imbibed beyond his limit. Zelaria steps forward and places her hand on his shoulder, on the opposite side of his sword arm, and has very little distance to lean to whisper in his ear.

Adrien, Perception 25:

"You should eat bread and drink only water from now on."

She lifts her head and touches her flat tummy with her hand and offers Belor a smile while she considers his companions.

OOC to ALL:
At this point I am going to assume that those working are mingling. If you are not working you are sitting at the same table as the rest of the party. I am arbitrarily forcing all non-employees to the table with the Sheriff, Mayor, Talon, Rohan, Zelaria, Adrien.
Working in the kitchen doing dishes is Noro w/ her brother.
Working the floor and waiting tables is Rhasa & Esme.

Noro add 50xp for your pic.
Talon, Rohan, Zel, & Adrien you all need to make Fort saves DC 15 before posting again.

Noro, Rhasa & Esme you need to make Fort saves DC 10 to see how ragged you have been run by the crowd.

If anyone fails these rolls you will be taking a simple -1 to all attack rolls and skill checks til you have a chance to sleep it off.

Ameiko comes downstairs from the upper rooms of the Dragon looking ravishing in her scarlet red form fitting dress of pure silk. Her hair done up in a bun with two chopsticks thrust in the back to form a striking "V" above her head. Everyone in the bar and common room is hushed by murmurs almost instantly as she turns and ascends the small stage. In a voice like the that of some celestial goddess Ameiko gives a singing performance of "Eastern Maiden, Western Sun" that needs no accompaniment. After she is done there is not a dry eye in the house. Even Belor is trying desperately to hide the fact that his eyes are slightly more moist than they should be.

After bowing and leaving the stage...the Whole entire dragon is plunged into utter darkness...

GM Rysil:
I don't think that I have anything that can thwart magical darkness, my half-elven abilities only apply to low light and exclude total darkness whether magical or not. Let me know if I am trying to do too much or embedding too many options into the following

Talon draws his rapier as a free action and stands up from his chair. Can he make out anything in the darkness, whether the source of the apparent magic or a determined rush/attack above the regular sounds of tavern or the gasps of shock of its patrons.

Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28 adjusted downward for the failed Fort save.

If he is able to make out anything he will use his surprise round to move toward and attack the percieved threat or threats if there is more than one. To the extent that he is able he will position himself between Ameiko and the attackers, not that they are necessarily targeting her, feeling that Rohan , Adrien and teh Sheriff are in good stead to look after the others. If there is a flanking opportunity in the process then he will maximize by doing that as well. I am assuming that it/they are not surprised, are not flat footed, etc.

Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4 Assuming I maintain my Dex bonus if I can percieve the attacker despite the total darkness.

EDIT: forgot to apply the -1 mod to the attack role

Bill Turner's Boy Aka Talon:
I don't give a flyin'flip who you are. If you roll a 28 for perception in total darkness....your ears work just fine.

So you can sense that from the entrance of the Dragon comes the scurrying of little feet and what sounds like the muffled sound of hideous squeeky laughter trying to be suppressed. You also smell and hear torches burning. Your best Tactical guess is that the bar is being swarmed from the front by more than a dozen small individuals no larger than children carrying torches.

Rysil:

Darkness

This spell causes an object to radiate darkness out to a 20-foot radius. This darkness causes the illumination level in the area to drop one step, from bright light to normal light, from normal light to dim light, or from dim light to darkness. This spell has no effect in an area that is already dark. Creatures with light vulnerability or sensitivity take no penalties in normal light. All creatures gain concealment (20% miss chance) in dim light. All creatures gain total concealment (50% miss chance) in darkness. Creatures with darkvision can see in an area of dim light or darkness without penalty. Nonmagical sources of light, such as torches and lanterns, do not increase the light level in an area of darkness.Magical light sources only increase the light level in an area if they are of a higher spell level than darkness.

If this works, Adrien will cast daylight on his shield and run to the bar, blocking the creatures from as many people as possible.

She sighed and a tear slid down her cheek by the end of the performance when she straightened herself and prepared to continue the gruelling work. The room went dark and Rhasa froze in terror. Someone's scream shook her out of it and she pressed her back against the wall muttering "They're here... They've found me... Oh no..."

"Everyone DOWN Now!!" Her voice the stern battle cry of a warrior maiden and then she begins into her Rendition of Patton bolstering each person who can listen to her with the same bonuses as Esme.

Male Definitely. Definitely male. Human it would seem Wizard Maybe?

Turns to his companions at the table off behind the stage as the Bar goes dark.

"Well isn't this a fine mess. And on the eve of celebration too. Seems someone has a score to settle."

With that the bar goes back to normal lighting conditions as he waves his hand and the darkness is dispelled. The goblins near the front door scream in abject terror and frustration as the Daylight spell washes over their sensitive eyes.

All Goblins in the Bar while Adrien's spell is up will take a -1 to all rolls to hit, skill checks, & Sight based perception related checks

The mayor steps out of the outhouse stall and closes the door only to be faced with several very unhappy goblins and one tall Shoanti Woman in Dark Blue Hooded robes. In her hand is a ebony colored wand with and obsidian sphere at the end.

"Really? You guys do this tonight. A******S!" She whips around and runs for the back door of the Inn and pulls it open in time to see Belor headed towards her and screams...

"Belor there are 9 here and one Wizard!"

Talon's reflexes kick into gear, he leaps up from his seat, jumps backward and vaults towards Ameiko. His senses, though slightly numbed by the ale, alert once he exits the zone of darkness. He is able to hear the oncoming hoarde and aleryts his mates. Just then the pockets of opaque illusion fade and he stands readied, gfacing a number of goblins running towards him, Ameiko at his back. His rapier drawn he is about to assault the first green scoundrel that lunges his way.

Male Would appear to be Human in his late 60's but in good shape & good health "Is this thing recording?"

Goblins(Tsuto's group 2)
The Goblins coming through the front door howl with glee even in the brightness of the daylight now in the room, but the lil monsters scramble across the floor of the Dragon like crazed butchers wielding dogslicers with glee. As Talon comes to the defense of AMieko the lil buggers swarm towards them clambering to get past Talon and trying to stab Amieko with their vicious weapons.

Talon you currently have three goblins in front of you and the rest are lined up in a cross formation between you and the rest of the party.

Goblins(Lyrie's group 1)
The three goblins holding flaming torches charge the back door to the common room avoiding the charging sheriff and try to sqeeze through all at once looking all to comical. The two riding goblin dogs charge towards the sheriff leveling their horsechopper's and kicking their dogs with wild abandon screaming goblin curses as they fly towards the huge Shaonti Tribesman.

Goblin Warchanters(both groups)

The two female goblins begin to jump and gyrate spinning whips in large circles around them as they spit and curse out their ribald rhyme

"Goblins chew and goblins bite.
Goblins cut and goblins fight.
Stab the dog and cut the horse,
Goblins eat and take by force!

Goblins race and goblins jump.
Goblins slash and goblins bump.
Burn the skin and mash the head,
Goblins here and you be dead!

Chase the baby, catch the pup.
Bonk the head to shut it up.
Bones be cracked, flesh be stewed,
We be goblins! You be food!"

Sheriff Hemlock charges past Mayor Devrin out the back door of the kitchen and into the oncoming goblins taking a howling swing that can easily be heard inside as he brings the large ax to bare on the now boggle-eyed goblin.

To hit: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 271d8 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8

His swing cleaves downwards and takes the poor goblin out of his saddle to the ground as Belor finishes the swing putting himself in the middle of four goblins. His massive Darkwood shield at the ready.

"C'mon you lil Bastards! BE GONE YOU FOUL VERMIN!!!"

Female Human Oracle (Heavens Mystery)/1

Zelaria swallows her fear and attempts to assess the situation rationally. The globes of darkness lend the greatest challenge, and beyond that, the fact that a good many of her allies were scattered across the field. She breathes a prayer to Desna for luck, and gathers Her influence in a globe of magic at the tips of her fingers, which spreads to Adrien in a rush of energy and heat like star burst prickling his skin.

"May the Lady's grace guide your arm, to protect the dreams of those gathered here," she says and smiles weakly. "Now pray that Chance favors you as well."

Zelaria casts Guidance on Adrien, giving him +1 bonus to any one attack roll, saving throw, or skill check for the next minute.

Initiative-wise, Rhasa goes after the Mayor but I'll post now since I don't think Rhasa's actions will conflict.

Rhasa takes a deep breath to calm herself now that the light has returned to the room while Kobo slips over beside her. She then frowns seeing Ameiko and Talon being accosted by the large group of goblins. Muttering soothing words and making mystical gestures, Rhasa sprinkles rose petals into the air. The petals takes on a sparkling dream-like quality as they float over and settle upon the group of goblins near Ameiko and Talon.

out back the main cobatants are Noro and the Sheriff so I am posting Noro's combat assuming to draw aggro of two of the goblins from the Sheriff also confused on the number out back one post says 9 but the map only shows 3 goblins, 2 riders, the chanter, and the leader which is 6 goblins

Noro was sitting the kitchen sharing some wine with her brother discussing their plans for the festival. When Amieko decided to share some music with the other patrons.

Noro teased her brother about “his girlfriend” was performing for him Lou stopped to listen.

Just as the song ended the kitchen went dark, Noro heard Lou stumble over a mop bucket attempting to find his way out of the darkness. Then shortly after in the confusion Noro was able to make out something out back (she could have sworn it was a dog growling).

Then just as fast as everything went dark the tavern was lit once more. The sheriff dashed out back only to be confronted by goblins and Noro also saw a couple of goblins attempting to squeeze through the back door.

what the.?. she exclaims out of confusion, where did they come from.

Seeing her brother knocked out on the floor (obviously to much drink, or so Noro tells herself) Noro moves to drive the goblins at the door back out of the tavern. With one goblin nearly pushing the other to the floor as they both attempt to squeeze in the doorway Noro takes a swig of her wine and steps up to kick the goblin.

unarmed strike: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23 – damage 1d3 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

Seeing the obstruction of the doorway the fight moves out back where Sheriff Hemlock stands to face the goblin riders and warchanter beating away her evil chant to motivate her comrades.

The first goblin having a its face just introduced to Noro’s foot reels back from the pain allowing a second goblin to move on Noro with its dogslicer.

goblin attack on Noro: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

Noro catches the counter attack from the corner of her eye and spins to avoid the stab of the goblin's blade. Noro lays into the second goblin at with her fist now equiped with her brass knuckles.

Noro attacks: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8

It would appear that Noro failed to compensate for the goblin's small stature her puch sails over the head of her diminutive opponent.

goblin attack on Noro: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9

The goblin attempts to take advantage of Noro's mistake but fails to connect the blade glancing off of Noro's armor.

Noro attacks: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16

Noro reponds with an uppercut Noro's damage: 1d3 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8 sending the goblin flying back and with a smashed jaw and it gurgles its last breath.

Male Would appear to be Human in his late 60's but in good shape & good health "Is this thing recording?"

As I had a long post prepared and my computer crashed...I will now be slightly lazy

Mayor The Mayor runs past Noro and the Sheriff and goes to the butcher block by the sink and pull a cleaver from the wood and stands over Lou waiting to see if any goblins come to attack the helpless Lou.

Bale Lights his pipe with the snap of his fingers and sits back to watch the show. Turns to one of his wild eyed table companions and says' "This younger generation is.. feisty to say the least. Dontcha think?"

Rohan you posted out of initiative order, so I will advise everyone to ignore the error this time please. I also ask that you wait for your segment in initiative order before posting during combat please, Rohan. Thank you.

Hello everyone! I encourage all of you to start by reading the info on this alias. Secondly I would like to warn you all that I have not had much luck keeping a party together for any length of time in a PbP game. I will try to do better at this, but I am still very flexible most of the time.

The following rules are for character creation submissions:

Abilities: 30 point Epic point buy – Stats do not matter much to me as they are easy to work around if you know how to manipulate the math.

Races: Standard races only. I know a lot of you want to play something fun and freaky, but I have little time to read every special rule and remember them all at my age. Not to mention the more powerful ones can introduce game mechanics that become OP at lower levels.

Classes: Any of the ones introduced in the Pathfinder Core Rulebook, Advanced Players Guide, Ultimate Combat, & Ultimate Magic. (This does include alternates at my discretion. If I disallow something I usually have a reason so just ask)

Level: First Level. 350 starting gold for all characters.

Feats & Traits: Any of the feats out of the already mentioned books are acceptable. Beyond those I will take on a case by case basis. Traits will be allowed under the same basis, but you may only take two. I will accept traits from the RotRL Players guide, but not more than one. If you take a trait or a feat it needs to be explained in backstory. If they are not…your submission will be tossed out.

Hit Points: Maximum + Con bonus. I Believe PC’s should be heroes, thus harder to kill. Makes it easier for me to not have to fake it when the NPC’s roll well.

Posting requirements: I say that once a day is fine. Yes this means twice on weekends. I do not expect long elaborate posts. So a “Sorry guys I am going to grandmas wait til Monday” Will suffice. Going to grandmas over the weekend or for several days with no posting is not ok. I am much more inclined to waive my ejection process for a halfhearted excuse beforehand than a “gee guys sorry I slowed down the combat for three days” asking of forgiveness. Is just a respect and courtesy to others thing I guess.

Ejection Process: 1st time missing a reply to a post involving you by more than a day and I will finish the scene stepping in to Godmode your PC. You can accept the results of said action or leave. Is always your choice. Just let me know. 2nd time missing a reply to a post involving you by more than a day and I will again Godmode your PC through the scene with a warning that if it happens again your character will suddenly lose interest in the campaign and fade off into the world of Golarion. I do not want to seem harsh but I have watched too many games fail due to poor communication. Just like around the table top if you aren’t happy, find another group, but please don’t leave those you leave behind holding the bag. Once again I feel this is just common courtesy. 3rd time you fail to reply in 24 hours I will exit your character in the best way for the story, and I will post in recruitment for your replacement.

Group & Group Size: This group will consist of a Tank, a disable device specialist, an Arcane Knowledge junkie, and a devout follower of a chosen deity (If you would like to worship Jehovah PM me). This means you may want to consider carefully before submitting a Gunslinger that does not fit one of these roles, or even a Monk who has no Knowledge: Religion. In your Submission post for everyone to see you MUST accurately describe How your character fits one of the four roles I have set forth.

Tank – This will be a High Constitution or High Dexterity (High = 18+) d10+ HD 18+ AC Melee class who can stand their ground well enough that the healer isn’t feeling like the Tank’s lil heal bot. You are about Damage avoidance and Damage absorption, Not Damage Dealing. Any tank character should be able to “Hold the gap” for two rounds without needing assistance from another player. If you would like help with Tank builds PM me. Just remember at first level a decent tank should have at least 14 hp. (House Rule - Fighters who take the toughness feat get 3hp every odd level and 1 every even level)

Disable Device Specialist – This means one of 2 things.
1.) Rogue- Rogues of any kind that put max ranks into both Perception and Disable Device.
2.) Alchemist - Alchemists of any kind that put max ranks into both Perception and Disable Device.
Arcane Knowledge Junkie – The Rise of the Runelords is well suited for any type of knowledge hound or archaeologist types. However to fill this role you must have at least Kn: Arcana, Kn: Planes, & Spellcraft. Use Magic Device helps but is not a requirement.

Devout Follower of a Chosen Deity – This means any Divine casting class. Your backstory should include heavy church affiliation and the ability to cast healing spells. This is not JUST a healer. Consider your role as the spiritual leader of the party and what that means. This means if other members follow an opposing or unaligned deity then what? This Role should have Max Ranks in Diplomacy and Sense Motive. They should have access to Detect alignments of some sort.

Party Leader - The last role is Party Leader or Party Mouthpiece. This role should have Max Ranks in Diplomacy. I will also look more favorably on any one planning to take the Leadership feat. (High Charisma is a MUST)

At most I will consider 5 submissions for PCs which will be posted on Thursday June 21st. I however will be making selections based on a 4 PC party. The Fifth slot will be for any submission I like enough that I cannot live without. SO wow me. The leadership role will be in addition to the already existing role unless I decide to dedicate one player to that role and take a total of five.

How to insure a good chance at success: Backstory. If I read your backstory and I feel like I have the potential for a hero that works well in a group and knows his or her role. You will get a much better chance. My main focus is a group of players that understand how well a party functions as a group of team members and not a bunch of super-solos and divas. If you want the spotlight more than 25% of the time you will likely not function well here. The Leadership role is not a carte blanche to do whatever you feel like. It is the responsibility of keeping your team alive and making sure they also function as a team.

As I have done in the past, I will eventually choose a PC Leader silently and begin coaching them in ways to achieve better balance if the need arises. I ask that the person playing them not only have the crunched diplomacy, but have a genuine clue how to effectively manage a group. In other words please don’t submit to fill that role if you feel that you cannot do it effectively.

This leads me to alignments. My experience has shown me that even chaotic neutral alignments are often covers for disruptive players. When I run a game like this it is with the understanding that only Lawful good, Neutral Good, & Chaotic Good are the preferred alignments. I will accept Neutral and Lawful Neutral for Players who show me in backstory that they understand the concepts of how a Neutral or Lawful Neutral PC fits in a Mostly good aligned Party. That being said I have run groups of neutral Mercenaries before.

Party Development – Once submissions have been selected and the submission time closed, we will enter a process where we figure out how the party formed prior to coming to Sandpoint. This will be an open brainstorming session where you the players will come to develop relationships and ties to each other PC to PC that bind you together as a team before play begins. Any and all ideas are viable so long as the entire group agrees before moving forward.

Other than this I will try to be around once a day (Time varies as my schedule is not reliable beyond daily) to answer the accruing questions, Review submissions, and chat with you. Always feel free to PM me and I will give whatever help I can. Other than that I hope you will enjoy the game.

Sincerely
GM Rysil

Well, this is a character that has been through 2 Rise games that have died, so I understand where you're coming from the posting. I am looking to fulfill the tank role, albeit in a different way. He has 14 hp at level 1 and can have AC 21 after he takes his first turn to cast shield. Even without it, he has decent AC. And also since he is going dragon disciple, he can aid the arcane knowledge junkie as well. And his eidolon is ironically able to be the scout/trap monkey. Granted this is probably not what you expected, but I hope it is atleast interesting enough for you to consider. I have been really trying to play this AP as I find it one of the most interesting ones. His traits come from the fact that he was bred and raised to be a pinnacle of humankind.

As long as you can continue to maintain the role of attracting the attention due the more squishy members of the party and get along well with the healer enough to do the job of a tank I will consider you. I say you better fit the role of Disable Device Expert were it not for your current inability with magical traps, but it is also something that can be overcome by the right build.

So far it's a new approach to the same old problem. As long as Drake functions well in the group and can take direction from the groups leader he will be strongly considered.

Your backstory is good, just be ready to think about how this sailor would come to be in the party if your submission is chosen.

Well, I believe he has a good mix of durability and damage to be a decent threat. And he also has reach which helps with battlefield control. Thank you for your input.

Rohan Drake wrote:

He certainly has many tools in his tool box for getting the job done. But I have seen the worst possible builds played well enough to shame 90% of us. I also have seen the Leetist Munchkin build on the planet fall flat on his face because the halfling drank a potion before inspecting it. So most of what we think of here is how you play Drake. It's really all about how do you make him a hero, a legend, The next Odysseus or Achilles? Or maybe in your case a lil bit of Ajax and Loki ;p

So you've read some of my past posts then? :) Copper is probably my favorite to write dialogue for.

I agree with you, it's not just about the tools. Its also how you use them. Granted I'm not exactly General Patton when it comes to tactics, but I'm not a slouch.

I present Adrien, Enforcer of Abadar.
Adrien is built to be a tank and a party leader. The backstory is super long, but I've put in a bit of research and thought into it. The avatar image is a bit feminine, but I assure you he's male. It's as close to what I had in mind as I could find :)

DM:
Let me know if you feel the backstory is sufficient for the racial consideration. Also, just for some flavor, check out the wondrous item in the last paragraph. This item is easily removable. The purpose of it is to enhance RP opportunities all around. If you feel it's a little bit too much, it's completely removable, and wouldn't mess with his story at all. Thanks!

Kybryn

This is Esméralda.
She is built to be the Arcane Junkie and Party leader. While she is a bard and does love to sing and enjoy life she has a passion for magic and responds to gaining magical knowledge with girlish glee.

I am still working on the background and a description of her personality. Should have it by tomorrow afternoon. It's late here so I'll finish that part soon.

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32

Is there a space in the RotRL AP for golem crafting? I'd like to try a wizard focused on animating constructs, but the crafting rules require lots of free time to craft even the relatively simple stuff (3 weeks for a wooden golem, for example). If the AP doesn't allow this, I'll think of something else.

Flykiller - If you are wanting something like that I recommend you play a summoner whose eidelon looks like a Golem. I know it's not a perfect fit to your idea, but it does lend itself well later on as you can still craft golems and I do give downtime between modules(As much as a month or more in the case of crafting).

Kybryn

Kybryn - I like most of the story. I like the fact that his lineage could be just coincidence in regards to the bounty of his life in Korvosa. I like the fact that he is unsure if it is his lineage and connection to his God. I do not like the confirmation at the end. I would much prefer for the ritual to be the grueling event you wrote it as, but instead of the glowing figure, allow the key to be the only thing left behind on the Altar. Then that night He has a Vision of a Great Demon Rising off the coast of Varisia and attempting to swallow the world.

I will consider this as a Divine Follower of Abadar submission for now. I think his Leadership would need to be proven amongst his teammates. Also consider revising your backstory about 30% I would say if your submission is approved.

Very good work. I am impressed :)

I'd be interested in playing as the Disable Device specialist. I'm thinking Rogue or Ninja for this. I'll look over archetypes and get a submission up tomorrow.

While I understand that the race creation stuff from Advanced Race Guide is out since races have to be Core, I was wondering if you would allow some of the alternate race traits, archetypes, feats, and traits found in it. The first chapter does a really good job of fleshing out the core races and making them very diverse from just the standard "Hi I'm an elf just like every other elf".

***TO ALL***

I do not mind the use of Traits or feats to enhance your Core race so long as you post the description of the trait in your Submissions. This means if it is published in a source I have not mentioned please give me the following:

The Book number
The title of the book
The page number the Feat or Trait is on.

As to additional races. Let me be clear.

I do not want them. I have one submission for a non core race already. At most I will accept one such submission for inclusion in the final party. So let me say that unless you wow me with backstory asking to play a tiefling or a Drizzt clone is likely going to make you hit the delete pile faster than I can eat fried turkey (And thats fast).

Hope that sufficiently answers your question. Thank you for asking :D I knew I would forget something in that mammoth opening post.

For consideration ... Talon Eldercourt.

Epic reflexologist and rapier wielding skill monkey designed to give the party an edge on survival - high perception, initiative and disarm skills.

He's an unpolished gem that will likely respond well to the right mentorship.

EDIT: Need to work on equipment, open to suggestions on build.

I like what I see so far. I am hoping for a good backstory from someone who knows Amieko personally. Amieko is my favorite NPC in the whole adventure so keep that in mind. Think of it like I am Simon Cowl(Or however you spell his name) and you are singing my favorite song as an audition. No pressure :P

I really like this for the DD Specialist. I like how his stats and crunch look. His backstory does not lend itself to team play very well. If you are willing to work WITH the party to become a "family" I see him being the most loyal of them all. If the party dynamic is not there how will you develop it on your own? Just some thoughts as I am still wanting a party of team members or family members. Remember: Friends help you move....real friends help you kill orcs and bury the bodies.

Rohan might recognize this little lady's name, but her new guise is an Oracle. I obviously need to trim her back from a previous game, and do some more mechanics stuff, but the backstory is there.

She's got the haunted curse, and I made her haunts her dead brothers, or... maybe not, maybe that's just how she perceives them as. It was real fun writing that for the few weeks I could and I would like to explore it more.

Tossing my hat in the ring for this. Full Sheet on the page. I am applying for the Skill Monkey Slot, with heavy focus on disable and stealth. Can go either melee or ranger once we get started. I posting from work so I will toss a back story once I get home.

Thanks - I don't envision playing him as an isolationist, rather, I see him starving for inclusion and an 'adopted' family. His trust might be a little harder to earn, but it will be all the more stronger as a result. He will be generous and while initially unsettled, he will look out for and even be protective of others (aka the party). He knows how to work well with others' hes just been on the outside for a whoile.

I took a stab at the link to Ameiko in the updated backstory and have pasted it below as well.

For the past several weeks Talon has been getting by scrounging up whatever work he can, most often as a dockworker or deck hand. When he’s had the gold, and hasn’t drank it away, he’s been staying at the Rusty Dragon. Its there that he met Ameiko. What for her started as the standard barkeep’s duty to listen to her patron’s sad drunken tales has evolved into genuine interest, even concern. She can’t help noticing the similarities in the circumstances between Talon and her own brother … a questionable birthright and ostracization from his family. Talon, however, seems to have it even worse. Many times, after she has closed down the tavern, they have talked into the early hours of the morning. Perhaps she can help Talon where she couldn’t help her brother. Perhaps this is a second chance. His plight tugs at her instincts to protect and she can’t help but be drawn to his story.

Good use of an NPC in Background. I like it so far. Thank you for submitting more. Keep in mind that you may need to incorporate all this into the pregame sequence.

Dotting for interest. Will be making a tank role most likely. Just give me a bit of time to fix up my character submission, and everything will be set.

Hi, here is an early rendition of my submission.

Link: Rhasadilara Wynterfall

An elf witch with the Winter Witch archetype (from Inner Sea Magic) if allowed. If not I can swap to a regular witch.
Name and gender may change.
Need to buy equipment.
Point form background to be fleshed out a bit later.
Function as the "arcane knowledge junkie". No interest in other roles with this character.

If we need to have a link to Ameiko in the background, she could have been the one to help her get back on her feet after landing in Sandpoint peniless.

The crunch looks decent, but to really have a good chance the backstory needs to wow me as you do not have the Rog or Alch Bonus to Perception and DD for being able to work w/ magic traps and seeing them on the fly. I am really looking for a rogue or an Alchemist specifically for this role. Please keep that in mind for any future submissions.

Here is Esméralda. I believe she is mostly finished. I don't know much about Amieko other then what is in the player's guide so I hope my bio reaches the bar.

Arcane Knowledge - How do you feel about crafting magic items, as in a Wizard dedicated to such?

Tank - How do you feel about a Half-Orc having been raised among one of the Shoanti tribes (Tamiir-Quah)? Obviously marginalized and abused, as a youth? Still turned out NG. I can work the backstory, think you'll like it.

Cheveyo Windwalker: Barbarian - 14, 19, 16, 12, 12, 8... HP: 15 minimum, AC: 18, 20 in melee w/shield. Dodge, when appropriate for +1.

Always bow/xbow, then javelin, then melee. Besides not being ugly (low charisma is a bad reaction, but not due to ugliness... mannerisms, harsh speech, not politically correct, etc...), imagining the Uruk-Hai from LotR, especially that alow motion scene.

Yep, me and Copper definitely remember you. Had some great dialogue if I remember correctly. Congrats on getting in. Hope I make it in too. Or rather I hope we make it in. Copper would throw a fit if I forget to include him in something.

doting for intrest. on my phone right now should have the character up tomorrow. Aiming at the tank roll with an Ulfen fighter. early crunch has my sc at 22 and HP at 15 possibly higher if i settle on Toughness.

I just read Zelaria Quiatris's backstory and realized how similar our stories are. Perhaps we could be from the same wagons that were attacked by bandits and are close friends because of it.

Profile has been update with new ending to backstory.

spoiler:
Before Adrien left for Sandpoint, he requested a final private audience with Tuttle. He asked that Tuttle lead him in a prayer ritual to address Abadar. The purpose of this prayer was to seek guidance, and perhaps even get the chance to find out if Abadar had a hand in his birth. After a three hour ritual with no notable success, Adrien, began to get the feeling the answer to his question would not materialize yet. After the ritual was completed, and all praying had ceased, Adrien opened his eyes to find Tuttle now standing with a deep stare at the altar. As his eyes began to focus, Adren noticed a golden key sitting atop the alter. Adrien grasped the key with purpose, and then looked back up at Tuttle. "I cannot tell you what this means, but I know that you have a long road ahead of you." Firmly nodding his head, Adrien embraced Tuttle, his beloved mentor, and started on his way to Sandpoint.
Adrien arrived late that night in Sandpoint. Without wasting any time, he went to the local inn to secure a room for the night. Feeling uneasy, and full of mixed emotions, he eventually managed to fall asleep, clutching the ring which he now had around his neck in his fingers. He dreamt a long and strange dream, depicting a great demonic figure rising up from the coast of Varisia. In a wake of destruction, the demon started to consume the entire world, with a seemingly unstoppable force. Just then, he awoke to the crow of the cock, still firmly grasping the key. He donned his breastplate, and strapped his sword at his side, without the least bit of certainty of what lay before him.

Given that the worshiper spot is filled, I'd like to get your take on how you see him potentially fitting into the party. I built him with the intention of fulfilling the roll of tank. His religious background need not take a central roll in the plot, as it can remain a personal thing. As for party leader, the skill is built into his stats, but I understand that legitimacy is earned. Thanks for the feedback.

I apologize for saying you were in for divine follower. I realize now my mistake. I like this for the "TANK" role. I apologize for the earlier mistake.

Shadow Lodge

Two questions:

1: For traits... I wasn't aware there were any from the player's guide, I am only seeing bonus feats. (aka upbringing) Is that what you mean? (As in have a bonus feat (a 2nd one, must be upbringing?) (or are you talking traits from the shadows under sandpoint (from APG)?)

2: When the hardcover comes out (I think next month), plan to use that? Or stick with the 3.5 material?

Have to update backstory, character was originally from a RotRL game that didn't make it very far. (Going for TANK)

Grand Lodge

Please consider my alias Tavrik for the DD specialist.

Elf rogue (scout archetype), raised in Korvosa, then among Varisian wanderers. His full sheet and background is in his profile.

I agree with you that something could be done to tie your two characters together. If you want to have better chance why don't you PM each other and then send me a joint submission on how you two would have grown up together in Sandpoint and become connected with Amieko.

***TO ALL***

After reviewing what I have so far I would like to let you know the preliminary short list. This list is not final and is subject to revision up to June 21st. But so far this is what I like for a Party.

Tank - Adrien Duran Mandreiv
DD Specialist - Talon Eldercourt
Arcane Specialist - Esmeralda Klimo
Follower of Desna - Zelaria Quiatris
Leader- ??
5th slot- Rohan Drake

If your name is not on this list, why? Have you carefully considered how your crunch effects your backstory? Have you followed the character creation guidlines? If you can answer yes and still wonder why you didn't make the prelim list...PM me and ask. Once again this is NOT a final list. It's just what I like so far. Final decisions will be on the 21st.

If you really want in and are still wondering why you aren't considered? I don't bite. PM me and I will tell you :D

For those of you in the list above. If you want to stay on the short list you must update your character to be 1st level (Zalaria). You must show in a revision of your backstory how you would integrate with each of your fellow preliminary party members. If I do not have this by the 21st I will consider it a lack of interest and will open the spot to those who still wish to play. It does not have to be long, but I want you already thinking how the 5 of you will become a team. Feel free to PM each other for ideas and hit me with a group Leader elected. If I see all five of you working in earnest this early....You could go a long ways to sealing the deal and closing submissions early. Up to you. I will be online throughout the day as I work. I will do my best to continue checking submissions.

Rysil
At this point I will be honest that unless I see a submission that really captures me or one of the existing 5 is not up to the extra leg work to keep their spot I will likely close submission a day early.

Please don't give up though. I am very encouraged by the responsesso far. Keep up the good work

And Arcane crafter with a bent for crafting him/herself or even one who is a knowledge junkie with a point in as many as possible plus crafting would be very good if the backstory fits.

Half-Orc Barbarian is a very good build. I just recommended such to someone asking advice. I would say though that it would require one heck of a lot of work to impress me with not only party integration but how has he survived to be a part of the celebration in Sandpoint. Only shot I see here is a tie somehow to Sheriff Belor Hemlock as he is a Shoanti. Other than that be creative and I am sure we can see what happens.

Think of this like auditioning for a play. If you audition well I may not need a second casting call. I say good luck to you all and no decisions are final until I say "You're in" or it's the final list on the 21st.

Please consider my alias Tavrik for the DD specialist.

Elf rogue (scout archetype), raised in Korvosa, then among Varisian wanderers. His full sheet and background is in his profile.

I will tell you now that his background is not going to cut it for a submission. If you want to rework it with a bit more detain and also explain why he is in Sandpoint I would take another look.

So far I am seeing very few good submissions. I have posted today's shortlist and I will not likely come back online much tonight. I know I sound like a grumpy old man, but my life and experience has taught me that the ones who don't want to write a good backstory aren't going to last in a long running PbP game. You are going to have to write. And you are going to have to do it like you mean it most of the time or any PbP game will suffer for it. I am not going to mince words with any of you. I put what I expect of my players out there for all of you to openly read. I love that you all want to play. It makes me smile to see any interest at all. I will not however take submissions where I see someone has let a computer do the crunch work and then they answered a list of 10 questions or less for a backstory. I know that some of you are just trying to get your hat in the ring here and I applaud you. I just don't want you to be discouraged if I tell you that your submission is not up to par. Ask me why I think it isn't up to par in a PM and when I give you feedback go back and revise. It will go a very long way to making your experience in the game and your fellow players experience much more enjoyable.

Once again, I enjoy reading all of the submissions. It's like panning for gold without all the wetness. Please keep them coming and if you aren't on the shortlist today don't give up. Just PM me and lets talk :D

Sincerely
Rysil

Well, I was thinking that Rohan met Adrien and Talon through the friendly tournament held at the festival. And when I say met, I mean beat the tar out of. Or vice versa. And for Zelaria, I just think back to a past life when they met in the Rusty Dragon. With Esmeralda, it might be the same way, but I'm not sure.

Sczarni

Rohan, Zelaria, Talon, and Esmeralda, I've started a discussion thread for us to get synergizing. Here's the link:

RotRL Short List Discussion

I would like to submit Noro Kasuri the Human Barbarian(Brutal Pugilist/Raging Drunk) back story is here need to complete the crunch part.

also if need be I can drop the raging drunk (unless you are ok with two archtypes)

I am applying for a tank position I can only hope that I can fit in.

The character personality is included in the story at the end as well as a bit of motivation.

Noro Kasuri back story:

Noro Kasuri was born of mixed blood her father was Tien and her mother was Varisian. She is the younger of their two children. Noro grew up on the Kasuri family farm, just outside of Sandpoint. Her father was an honorable man of Tien tradition, and her mother was a Varisian Gypsy. Noro was your average girl save only one small flaw; she could not correctly say the “s” sound often sounding rather comical. This really would show when she was nervous or anxious. Lou would tease her about it and Noro would respond with a punch to the arm, or gut, or face if she got particularly angry.

Noro and her brother, Lou, were complete opposites. Lou was always reserved and followed father’s strict regime of exercise and training; while Noro was more like her mother, wild and impulsive. Her father was constantly scolding her in an attempt to make her more disciplined, but this only drove her emotionally further from her father. She will always love her father and will never willing do anything to bring dishonor to his name; unfortunately she could never really understand how.

Noro and Lou studied martial combat with their father since they were old enough to walk. He was adamant in teaching the children the old ways and to fight with honor. Lou managed to grasp much of these concepts, but Noro was another story. She didn’t mind learning to fight and stand up for herself she just didn’t have the discipline to know when to avoid a fight and not to attack out of emotion and anger.

Noro would often accompany her mother into town especially to the market. She always enjoyed this time; it was time away from father’s lecturing and his pointless proverbs. Of course they seldom bought much being a family of limited income but the time together is what she really cared about. It was on one of these outings that things changed; some of the other children in Sandpoint began to tease her about her speech, she tried to ignore them but they would not stop. Noro became infuriated and leapt at one of the boys teasing her. With a swift right hook she broke his nose. This did not go over well with her parents. She could only imagine what her father would say.

Noro’s Father was infuriated over the incident and was forced to pay restitution to the family to restore the family honor. Noro was emotionally crushed at the lecture she received from her father. She vowed that she would one day make her father proud and restore her honor in the family.

Noro would work hard at her studies attempting to be calm and reserved like her brother. But at every turn there were the other kids tormenting her again, attempting to urge her on in the hope to see her get angry again. Luckily Lou would intervene on many occasions before it would get to far.

Lou was always there for her until he found someone new. There was a new girl in his life, Amikeo from the Rusty Dragon. Noro has no idea how or where they met but Lou always had that lovesick puppy dog look whenever she was around. Of course Amikeo never seemed to even notice Lou, a fact that Noro would frequently point out. Perhaps, she was just a bit too old for him?

Noro would follow her brother to the Rusty Dragon and spy on him as he would do anything he could to get her attention and fail every time. However once word got around that Lou was pre-occupied Noro was soon again the target of the hazing and bullying.

Finally things got to the point where she decided to hell with the training and the “turn the other cheek” attitude. She tracked down her tormentors to the Sandpoint docks and there outside the Feedbag she challenged them.

Of course the challenge sounded more like a cartoon that a real threat and it was answered with laughter. The boys decided it was time to teach this “not-so-tough” tomboy a lesson. After the first punch Noro flew into a rage finding inner strength she never knew she had. She managed to pummel two of the three boys nearly to unconsciousness the third ran off.

When the fight was over she realized she had a crowd. She was approached by a man asking her if she wanted a job working for him. Noro, not really sure what to do looked around and there among the crowd was her father. Once she saw him he looked to her and there in front on everyone disowned her then he turned and walked away. Noro turned to the man and agreed to work for him.

Soon she was fighting for money. Without realizing it she was work for the Sczarni. Noro found herself on more than one occasion in the local garrison jail. She turned to drink and drugs looking for meaning to her life. She finally hit rock bottom when she actually killed a thug on the docks when he commented on her lisp.

Noro escaped jail with the help of the Sczarni but she wanted out, she wanted to turn her life around. Noro needed a way out; A Chance to reclaim her life and restore her family name. Until that day she will never call herself a Kasuri.

Noro likes to drink and also is addicted to the drug Barbarian Chew; the drug that she was fed when she was forced to fight for the Sczarni. Her only connection to her family is her brother Lou whom she can only see when she visits the Rusty Dragon. Lou has started working there as a cook in the hopes of gaining Amieko’s attention. Noro knows Amieko but not a close friendship. Noro has even commented to her about her brother’s affection for her. The Rusty Dragon id just about the only place in town she feels welcome anymore.

The upcoming festival seems like a chance to begin anew if she can only avoid fighting. Perhaps she can offer her talents as a tattoo artist (a skill she picked up trying to fit in with the other dock fighters).

Noro is a tomboy and seldom dresses up, if she even knew how to wear a dress, she wears boy’s clothes and carries many of the mannerisms of a boy. She is frequently barefoot but has been known to wear a soft shoe once in a while. Noro is “Short Fused” and frequently flies into a rage at the slightest insult; she struggles to try and control this rage. Noro hates killing but at times she loses control and it has happened in the past. She still is training in the martial arts but is not as reserved as a monk would be, she fights with raw emotion. She knows the use of many weapons but has always preferred her fists.

@Adrien - thanks for setting up the discussion thread, great idea.

@GM Rysil - thanks for the initial nod, understand that this is a journey and that we are not at the final destination yet.

Cheveyo Windwalker... there's a whole more intricate backstory, but how does this work for "writing sample" and arrival at Sandpoint?

No good deed...:
... goes unpunished.

Chevyo Windwalker found himself on the receiving end of a gang-beating, in this case the “gang” was Sandpoint’s town militia.

The Half-Orc knew if he tried to explain about why he was here, it would only make the beating worse. These were townsfolk, small minded his mother had taught him. Fearful.

But, this is where his witch-mother had sent him, when he insisted on striking out on his own. She said if go he must, to reach Sandpoint and the twin hawks that watched over it. He hadn’t seen any hawks… He loved her, but must she always speak in riddles?!

He felt his rib almost crack, he rolled into a tighter ball of long flat muscle. He was going to have to fight back soon. But, he knew he shouldn’t… keeping his wits about him, he tucked his head in and protected his skull. Beatings were nothing new to the half-orc raised among the Shoanti. If he fought back, the hard part would be not killing them.

From the glimpses he could steal, a tall dark skinned man approached.

He had an air of authority about him, but more importantly his features betrayed his heritage. Although he seemed urban in every way, his features were Shoanti and more specifically, Shiikirri-Quah. Hawk clan. Is this the hawk she was meaning?

A short stream of words escaped Cheveyo’s lips as the man peeled the assailant’s off the youth, one by one. The long haired half-orc was mussed up pretty badly, but Belor Hemlock knew when a man wasn’t fighting back.

“Let him be!”

Bloodied and bruised, the youth kept repeating the phrase. It was Shoanti, certainly… but unfamiliar to the sheriff.

“He tried to take Garridan’s girl, he came at us…” offered one of the militia.

“Shut your mouth and stop lying! I can see he’s unarmed, he dropped his weapons over there in one spot. A bow, quiver, axe, knife. He disarmed himself, fool.”

That’s when a little girl came running towards the group, closely followed by a man and woman. The woman was townsfolk. The man was the other hawk, another of the Shiikirri-Quah.

As the second hawk approached, he tilted his head as if listening for something. Cheveyo repeated the phrase. It is all he said, all he did. Cheveyo knew he didn’t look Shoanti. He did not shave his head, he did not display tattoos. He was half-orc to them. Filth.

“My girl says he saved her from a wild boar at the edge of town. He was leading him to the Inn. What is he saying?”

Belor repeated the phrase, not knowing what it meant. And, that’s when Garridan shoved his brother aside roughly half-kneeling to offer the youth a warrior’s arm-clasp.

“He asks for succor in the tradition of the Shoanti. ‘A warrior approaches your tribe, alone. Service for shelter, peace…’ the innkeeper translates.

Cheveyo Windwalker stood then, bloodied and bruised but head held high. His hands are open and empty at his sides until the girl walks up to him and places one of her hands into one of his.

Slowly, with his other hand he reaches into a belt-pouch. Producing a small carved wooden horse head, he offers it to the girl.

Response:
+ I really really like the time you took and attention to detail. I like your writing style and you have a firm grasp of how to weave facts into fiction. All good qualities.

- Drug addict & Alcoholic. I am all for realism in my games. In fact I try to stay as close as I can in a fantasy game. However starting a character off with those two defects is a bit of a stretch for me. I have nothing against anyone with either of those diseases. However as a recovering addict who has been clean for over 15 years....I don't see the need for it here.

+ I like the fact that you have her tied to several different people or families in Sandpoint. You did it well, and in a way that makes a lot of sense.

- Not having your crunch done before submission. I like to see a complete picture, but in this case I am flexible. I do however like for my potential players to wait to present the finished product.

I will consider you for Tank, but please have the crunch done and try to join in the Prelim thread that was started

Response:

+ Great way to introduce a character to me. That's like a succor punch at Ye Ol' Heart Strings. Good Job.

- Telling me there is an intricate backstory without letting me read it...tease.

- No crunch up front. I like my meat bone in thanks. Give me something to hold on to. (Any sexual jokes in reference here will likely win you a grin but no points.)

Hit me with your crunch and your "Intricate" backstory and I will hold you in the running for Tank
