Have fun GM! :D
Rune GM
Slept for 16 hours yesterday. Jet lag maybe.
But we should be back to our regularly scheduled programming now.
Laurana Kanan
Great to have you back! Vegas is my hometown, hope you enjoyed it.
Laurana Kanan
Get some Rig! I cant see how this could go wrong!
Rig Veda
lol

I love Vegas. I was there back in 2004. Two nights though is not really enough time to really do anything in Vegas. Also, being the end of my trip, I didn't have a lot of US currency left, and Vegas is certainly more fun if you have lots of money.
We tried to see Mystére but the show ended up being cancelled due to technical problems. :(
I did notice that the strip had changed a lot since I was there last. Aria, Cosmopolitan, Mandarin, Linq, Planet Hollywood, SFS, none of those were there last time I was in town. Wynn was being built when I was there but Encore was obviously later.

You must be THIS tall to feign respect to your undeserving betters ;)
Rune GM
Sorry guys... got stuck in the middle there. Wanna get this one right. Might not get to this until tomorrow.
Laurana Kanan
Okay, I was going to post more but I will wait. Probably best anyway :p
Floredana Mandulescu
Well that went to hell in a hand basket! GM, how does Ameiko respond to her father's demand?
EDIT: As a noble on the council for Sandpoint, is it one of Kaijitsu's responsibility to care for and help support the defense of the town in it's time of need?

Sort of, but there's no requirement he do it in person. Proxies can be appointed.
Cade Goodbarrel
Cade is not trying to start a war of words with the Lord. He is not happy that this dude just put the whole city into chaos. I like to think that he chooses his words carefully and with the right tone to get his point across. Cade is gambling on his popularity with the town folks to help him out here. Stating that he made the mistake of suggesting that the Lord stayed in his mansion in front of the whole room was a calculated attack on him. It is Cade's hope that this news spoken out loud will make the lord feel he is in a corner and needs to tread very carefully on what he says next even to one that is below him. Even if he is angry at the words, he should understand that having a whole town hate you does not do well for your coffers. That is Cade's thinking and most likely he will be wrong..LOL
Next Cade went for the..hey you said these words...what do you mean. So Cade said that you were hiding and now you are claiming there is a war coming. Where is your proof.
Last Cade went in to hopefully give the Lord a way out and to also calm the crowd down to understand that the Lord is being a father and may have misspoke in his attempt to protect his daughter.
It is a HUGE Gamble but one Cade hopes will pay off.
Rune GM
No worries about Cade's motivations. If you haven't figured it out yet, it's okay not to like Lord Kaijitsu!
Most of the goods of his glassworks are shipped to Magnimar and points beyond though, so disrupting things in Sandpoint doesn't hurt his business much. And Lord Kaijitsu certainly doesn't feel that he is in any way obligated to supervise the defense of the town personally, so he feels no shame for staying in his house where he belongs.
Anyway guys, I meant to post earlier but was having trouble getting organized. These multiple NPC posts take some planning. I started yesterday but I had a double shift and I was too tired to concentrate. Then last night I got messageboard goblins for a while.
I admit though lately I have also been distracted by Starfinder. Got the rulebook just before I went on my trip. Anyone tried it yet?
Kargas Stormscar
I have a Vesk Soldier/Outlaw and we have a little group going through Dead Suns. We haven't been able to meet lately, but that's okay since the release pace is so slow. It's a good time! Hoping it does well so they can expand the ruleset and world. I want mechas!
Rig Veda
and I'm playing a ace pilot android operative on the boards. It's okay so far. The space combat mechanics are kinda neat
Floredana Mandulescu
I've only done it on PBP. Space combat is pretty cool. I'm not totally sold on the rest of it though tbh. None of it is bad, it just doesn't feel different enough for me. I think it does the setting very well though, which makes me feel like a Pathfinder: Adventures in the Stars Beyond super splatbook would have done the same thing.
Additionally, it may be that I am playing a Soldier primarily and I've only played through a small selection of scenarios, but it seems VERY skill driven and combats have been a nerfed cake walk. I think that is the nature of the setting to an extent, but then all the classes should have been given serious skill support. Sure, they all have at least 4 skills per level, but that's not enough IMO when technology has so many relevant skills.
How do you all feel about it?
Rig Veda
yeah, only done PBP as well. I agree that skills are pretty important, which is why I choose the operative. I'd like to see how the combat runs in RL before I make any judgements on it. It's kinda nice that you're less likely to be taken down by a single hit at level 1 (unlike games like MERP where a simple bar fight can kill your character). The HP, RP, SP thing is kinda cool for that cinematic feel (only a flesh wound, shrug it off). I think it's weird that they took a workable system and made any changes at all. Like changing the 5' step rule, for example.
So far the only thing that's really bothered me is an equipment thing. So at level 1 you can get up to level 2 equipment? Why not just call it level 1 then? Why needlessly complicate that?
Kargas Stormscar
I actually like the equipment thing. It has nothing to do with the characters, it has to do with how powerful the gear's special abilities are.

There are some game effects that depend on the item level for a skill or save DC. And at large markets (like Absalom Station, presumably) you can get items that are your level +2 instead.
But overall, you're basically right.
Overall you would think that the price of the item would be an effective limit, though if the whole party pools their money to get the soldier one big heavy weapon I suppose I can see why it would be an issue.
Instead of an item level, I would have preferred an "availability" score that represented a skill DC to find someone willing to sell it to you. Then you could have situational rules for black markets and such.

I have to admit, I like the idea of having the two "angry father" encounters happening simultaneously. :)
Laurana Kanan
It gets worse Rig, you're a father! Congrats!
Rig Veda
cackle. Fortunately, there are no shotguns in Varisia

They have pitchforks and torches though...
Just saying... ;)

GM, I just wanted to say that your GMing is phenomenal and is only diminished in magnitude by your dedication to this game. *high five*

I also like this game. I both look forward to what happens and dread it at the same time. Cade talks a lot you know.
Thanks guys.
It's not that hard, though. The source material is well-written. Well, a lot of it anyway.

It's more than the source material though. You're easily the best of the three GMs we've tried this game with, and we appreciate it!

apologies for having such a hard time with this old man, guys

Tell him you've got friends in the town guard now! Kargas will *totally* help you jump this guy later! CN to the rescue!

No worries, I have no problem waiting for this to play out :)

Just offer to marry the girl, that would be the right thing to do after taking advantage of her innocence... ;)

I think that ship may have sailed LONG before Rig came along

It would at least allow you to make a bluff check, which is way better than your diplomacy! :)
Rune GM
Rig is now out of danger... for the moment. :) We can have a bit of RP as he returns to the tavern and then we'll move on to the next bit.
Rune GM
Really tired right now... will post something in the afternoon or after midnight.

Excellent dream sequence Rig :D Freaking loved it.
Rune GM
Sorry guys, I've been under the weather for the last few days. I'll try to get caught up soon.
Rig Veda
no worries, hope you feel better
Rune GM
Hey guys. Been burning the candle at both ends lately, so I apologize again for the slowdown. But we should be nearing the end of the freeform social encounters for a while, and will get to some more structured types of encounters with combat. Those tend to be a bit easier for me to put together.

Linked page is safe but the site is NSFW:
Never Mess with a King who can Dance
Cade Goodbarrel
I do understand that but the character Cade does not know this information about the Sczarni. At least that is how I am playing him.
I am thinking it is some local group of criminals and not some world changing criminal organization. I figure him being in this town for only a very short period of time would know a few things like that there are crime groups but not any real details about the actual members. I figure he knew the name of the tavern owner but never met him as this is not an part of town he would travel to. I am sorry any confusion or derailment.

FYI I will be off-line most of today. Going to a local Board Game convention.
Floredana Mandulescu
Flo doesn't have anything to do right now, she isn't feeling to good.

Guys:
FYI I am making preparations for Christmas and I am not sure how much time I will have to post on the weekend. I'll try to fit it in but I may not have anything for you until Sunday.
Floredana Mandulescu
Forgoing my standard action. Not a whole lot to do at the time without crowding the more capable melee characters out.
Doesn't cover negate AoO's?
Floredana Mandulescu
I was thinking a restore corpse spell would work. Actually... if we stall them for 15 minutes, I could prep it myself! :D
