Sammy and Sammi (who might be half-elves based on the picture I chose for them) bicker during most of the walk over. René half considers telling them to be quiet before they alerted the goblin hoards to their approach but resists the urge, recognizing it as simply their method of dealing with nerves. Their was a slight twinge of homesickness in his heart as he watched them, even though he and his Ma rarely, if ever, fought. But he still couldn't help but miss the sense of family that was evident between them. It also caused a twinge of a more unpleasant feeling at the knowledge that they might die. Or perhaps more cruelly, just one of them might die, leaving the other alone. But they had volunteered, hadn't they? It was more than he had gotten a chance to do. He had just kind of been thrown in to all of this. It wasn't like he was actually foolish enough to sign up with the town guard. And then even more foolish to volunteer for possible suicide mission.

On the other hand, they had already taken care of Tsuto, and surely he was the bigger menace than what they were about to face, wasn't he? This presumed-dead girl was just an angry child? Or...I guess, probably more accurately 'young adult'. She probably knew a few magic tricks, but that was about it. She would be no match for the strapping six soldiers that were with them PLUS Tylur and Skarn the meat shields. Especially given Aurora's apparently healing abilities. Most likely they'd all just get banged up a bit from the goblins but otherwise be fine. Wouldn't they?

As they reach their destination, René hangs back. Partially to mentally prepare himself and partially to physically prepare himself [ooc]via Mage Armor[/i]. He misses the bulk of whatever the goblins are saying as the twins pull out their spears, showing off slightly with a few dramatic twirls. Their hard swallows betray their nervousness, but they give each other a look and nod, steeling themselves for a likely battle.

Back in Sandpoint

As breakfast comes to a close Tylur mentions to the others "Before we leave I will need to stop by Savah's Armory to purchase some armour that will provide me with better protection. We will need every advantage available to us." He bites off another piece of bread and then drinks down the last of his water.

At the armory knowing time is of the essence he does his best to put together several pieces of a chainmail to make a full suit. Giving the vendor the two hundred gold he thanks him then leaves to meet up with the group.

As your cannon fodder companions round the corner, they see the source of the noise: nearly a dozen goblins stand huddled together in the low-ceilinged chamber. A shallow fire pit smolders in the center of the floor, while nine tangled reed-and-leaf nests line the walls.

Cordwin understands some of what they'd been saying. It sounds as if they're refugees from the Birdcruncher clan. They speak of impressing Ripnugget and earning his favor.

The goblins all turn as they notice that eleven people have intruded upon them. They point their crude weapons at you as they launch into a frenzy of shrieks.

Goblin:

"Longshanks! Kill all, and Ripnugget will reward! For King Ripnugget!"

Now that's a cramped room.

Sammi and Sammy double team the white-tuniced goblin, driving their longspears through its green flesh. The goblin gurgles up blood as he falls over. Tylur removes another goblin from Thistletop's forces when he wraps his spiked chain around the goblin's neck and detaches its head.

Perhaps Jimmy and Fodder require additional training. Both of their attacks miss.

As her brother holds the line, Sammi bravely advances, hoping to take some heat over the barely standing Fodder. "Fodder! Get your ass outta here. What are supposed ta tell the sheriff if you go and get your dumb ass killed?" Aware that she just put herself in a rather precarious position, Sammi swivels back and forth between the goblins, taking a defensive stance. Sammi moves and takes the total defense action to try to draw heat off of Fodder.

Skarn pulverizes the orange-eared goblin to a pulpy green mess, while Fodder earns redemption when he slices the legs off the red goblin. The town militia continue to shine when Jimmy wounds another goblin enough to render it unconscious, and Aurora's summoned eagle pulls the blue goblin through an opening in the tunnels, sending him plunging to his death.

With all other creatures helpless from sleep, combat is effectively over. What will you do with the sleeping goblins?

Sammi and Sammy quickly and efficiently disarm the sleeping goblins before each pointing a spear at the throat of a sleeping form. They glance briefly at the so-called 'Heroes of Sandpoint' for guidance on what to do next.

"We kill them now, yea?"

"But they're sleeping. Can we really kill helpless creatures in cold-blood? Is that really the right thing to do?"

"Well, if you recall, they and their buddies had no problems trying to kill us just a moment ago."

"We did charge in with arrows blazing, as it were. It could have just been self-defense."

"So then why did you start trying to kill them just as hard?"

"Because that was in my self defense!"

"I suppose. But if they didn't want us coming after them, maybe they shouldn't have launched an all out attack on our home for no damned reason!"

Sammy's expression simultaneously hardens and darkens at this reminder. "You're right. The bastards brought this on themselves."

Unless told not to or stopped, the twins will start coup-de-grace-ing the sleeping goblins.

René stays quiet through the argument; as long as they couldn't kill him, he didn't really care one way or the other if they were killed or kept as prisoners. If they had been trying to 'impress' Ripnugget, it was likely they weren't important enough to have any useful intel to give them, so the question was purely one of morals over practicality. And this was neither the time nor the place to get in to a morality debate.

Their lives are barely worth living but that is not the choice we should be making here. Bind them if the Sheriff finds them guilty and proven to be executed then that is his right as the appointed judge of Sandpoint, but if they do not attack us we have no right to take their lives ethically, morally or legally."

With Tylur being the only one against it, I will assume the militia likely have their hatred on for goblins given the incident in Sandpoint, and will eagerly kill them. Will update properly tomorrow.

After Sammy, Sammi, and the other militia take turns ending each helpless goblin's life, you take stock of any loot in the area. Each of the goblins wore leather armor, wielded a short sword, and carried twenty arrows.

With the loyal Sandpoint militia team leading the charge, you make your way up out of the refugee cavern and back into the forested area just above it. You head east and see the same rickety bridge you'd previously passed through to your north. This time, you head south instead.

A cloying musky scent lies heavy in the air here. A matted nest of red and black hair sits to the east.

A snore changes to an angry snarl as what appeared to be a nest of hair begins to move. The firepelt cougar turns and shows its fangs to Jimmy.

Then, a robed goblin hobbles forward, a flaming wand in his hand.

Goblin:

"Adventurers come to murder Gogmurt and Ripnugget, huh? Many longshanks too. More food for Tangletooth!"

The cougar prepares to pounce, beginning the fight..

With a nimble dive, Sammi leaps over the suddenly animated grass and lands clear, training her spear on the spellcaster while keeping a wary eye on the large cat.

Sammi moves out of the entangled area, and then defensively readies an action to attack the goblin if he attempt to cast a spell or use a wand.

I'm sorry I have been so slow moving with this game! I'll try to be a little more active here.

Jimmy can't quite charge through there, so I've at least moved him out of the entangled area. You can move through the brambles too, but at the risk

While Jimmy, Sammi, Cordwin, Fodder and Tylur manage to avoid the tangle of weeds grasping at their boots, the rest of the party find themselves stuck in place. Old Scar looses a bolt that slips into the trees, and Skarn scrapes up some mud with his pick.

Tangletooth rears up on its hind legs and snaps its jaws at Skarn's arm.
