Kwiazy
"And what purpose would that serve that could not be served by you telling us your tale and having us tell it to the dwarf leaders?" Kwiazy considers the fact that perhaps this ghost has some agenda against the dwarf leaders and bringing them here could spell their doom...

Sense motive: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8 Lel
Sounds like plan! How many is many? 3, 3 plus 1, 3+2? Can we have cheeki breaky sneek peak of story though? Compensates likes story times!
This is hilarious, you there, hand me the popcorn Smirks his copilot in his head.
Kwiazy is almost certainly correct, but Compensates wouldnt suspect aynthing.
GM Redelia
She introduces herself as Bellachal and spins a woeful tale of vicious gugs invading and a medusa in the center of the vault, betrayed by her master and lashing out. She insists that you deal with the gugs and then bring the dwarf leaders so she can tell them her tale.
sense motive checks welcome
Petrahk Jadetalon

Sense Motive: 1d20 ⇒ 11
"Not that it makes a difference or anything. We will have to clear gugs. And medusa too." Petrahk offers from her unseen location as they flit along looking forwards a bit.
Velvunk

Velvunk moves his goblin dog, Itchy, next to Compensates and nudges the paladin then whispers.
"Ghost not dwarf, not short like dwarf? Me think too it lies. Want to hurt dwarf. That's what me think."
Compensates for nothing!
Mid-USA? Thinks Compensates? never heard of it. Can you tell me how to best make Smesh of Mid-USA? Also, Gug sounds tasty? Is edible? Compensates asks Petrahk.
You wish to SMESH the middle of the USA? Oh my compensates, you are moving up ambitionwise!
Well, you would need a degree of interplanar transportation, and presumably some nuclear weaponry. Let me just call up my good friend ROSOBRONEXPORT And Compensates hears something akin to a tail slap. OUTSCH Apsu, that was kind of rude. Yes, OK, I will not turn your little Paladin into an interplanar terrorist. Effing Killjoy.
Kwiazy
Kwiazy has his suspicions of the ghost, but it's nothing specific, just a nagging unsure doubt about the ghost's motives. In general, he's not very in tune with motives and sensing them... just doesn't quite believe with no particular reason. He looks to the others and shrugs. "What do you all think? I'm not quite believing it, but not sure why not."
Yvra Brunhasson
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (15) + 17 = 32
Yvra exchanges a glance with Velvunk, and nods. That's my impression too.
He holds up the sigil. "I was raised in these halls by Brunha, Priest of Folgrit, and I can speak for the leaders of Kraggodan here. Go ahead. What do you have to say?"
Bluff: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Xakroo the Arrow Shooter
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Xakroo's not sure what to think, but this whole thing doesn't feel right for some reason...
Velvunk

Velvunk nods at Yvra then taps Compensates on the head with his closed fist and whispers loudly again.
Nu friend no hear me...have pickles in ears?
"Nu friend you hear me? Me and Yvra think statute not dwarf want to hurt dwarf..."

I rolled a nat 1 for the sense motive, figuring out how to roleplay that. Paladin code of Apsu posted:
I am the talon of Apsu’s wrath. I strike where I am needed, but only when evil has been unmasked and there can be no doubt of my enemy’s malice.
Cani cannot initiate hostilities if he is uncertain of the enemies malice, which he would be even without a Nat 1 on the sense motive.
Hmm friends Cani whispers back rather loudly.
Apsu make smesh of me if I make smesh of non evil being before Evilness is fully established. Maybe we take look around and smesh certified evil first, perhaps we find clues of what deal of maybe evil ghost is?
I dont want to speak for the party either
Yvra Brunhasson
Yvra glares at it, and then reflects on what she recalls about how to give a ghost their final rest.
Religion: 1d20 + 31 ⇒ (9) + 31 = 40
GM Redelia
Yvra remembers sometimes ghosts need to be defeated in combat or sometimes they need help completing a task.
However, Yvra also realizes this in not actually a ghost, but is instead a projection of someone who is somewhere else (like not in this room) pretending to be a ghost.
Compensates for nothing!
Oh, extremely knowledgable about evil beingz with pretty wings in compensates head, compensates Paladin-Dar sometimes picks up evil beingz as not evil, but has never so have non evil beingz pinged as evil. Can you make tell if it is possible pretty please with cherry on top?
Compensates asks his occassional copilot
Well, since you asks so kindly... Several spells would create and evil aura around a target, the fairly pedestrian infernal healing being the most common one, but there are also specific curses and affliction that can create such effects. However, on a permenant fashion it would be rather involved. I kind of wonder as what you would ping if I were to profanely ascend you... But I wont for reasons that do not concern you. Generally speaking, there are about 12 ways for like, Shamira, to not ping as evil for you inspite of her being a nascent Demon Lord, there are a lot less ways for like, Sun Wukong to ping as evil when he actually isnt.
Shamira? Really hot Lady with Mythic-Mastery of Grilling? She made such expert grilling of Demon that it actually was of great tastyness! Compensates tasted and was much surprised!
Yvra Brunhasson
Sorry, I was out of town and lost the thread!
Yvra's eyes narrow. She gathers her companions close and whispers, "Whatever this projection is, it's no true ghost. Someone's trying to trick us...and I don't think they're in this room with us. I say we continue on our path...but first I want to take a look to see if I can see any traps or other things here that could cause harm. I'm certain the fake ghost was trying to get the elders here to harm them...but if it's not truly a ghost, who knows how they meant to do so.".
As they talk, Yvra scans for traps, or other means of harming those in this hall.
Perception: 1d20 + 24 ⇒ (13) + 24 = 37
FYI, I have The Scout Talent Heightened Awareness, which says:
When actively searching with the Perception skill (a move action), you may detect the presence of ongoing magical auras, such as those left by spells such as alarm or invisibility. If the target does not normally have a Perception DC, the DC is equal to the original spell DC as determined by the spell’s caster (DC 10 + spell level + caster’s casting ability modifier), or DC 25 if the effect does not originate from a source that would make it possible to determine a spell DC. This does not give you any information about the exact nature of magical effects detected in this manner, you are merely aware that a magical effect is active and the general area it is active in.
.
So long as you have martial focus, you may make a Perception check to notice the presence of traps or ongoing magical effects (as described above) whenever you pass within 10 ft. of them, whether or not you are actively looking.
Xakroo the Arrow Shooter
I guess if this "ghost" isn't a threat, Xakroo wants to move on as well
Yvra Brunhasson
Sorry to be slow to respond. I'm puzzled as to if/how we can stop this projection from here. I'll try one more thing.
Yvra strokes the scales of his chin. No magical aura...and not a true ghost...what exactly IS this thing? And can we thwart it from here, or do we need to find the source of the projection elsewhere?
Knowledge (religion): 1d20 + 31 ⇒ (1) + 31 = 32
Knowledge (engineering): 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (16) + 25 = 41 +5 on checks made to repair or understand mechanical devices,
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 24 ⇒ (20) + 24 = 44
Depending on the answer, I can certainly try to dispel magic here. Otherwise, I'd vote to go further, and seek out whatever is the source of the projection.

I agree
"Ghost you no answer me! No pickles for you!"
Velvunk sticks his thumb to his check, palm open, wiggles his fingers and makes a raspberry sound with this mouth.
"Pttffff!"
GM Redelia
Yvra realizes that the 'ghost' is a special ability of a medusa who petrified this dwarf. It's only the presence of the statue that allows the medusa to send an image here. This also suggests that the medusa cannot be completely defeated if any of her petrified victims remain; you will have to either undo the petrification or else completely destroy the statue.
To be clear, this petrified statue is in very good condition, and the dwarf does not look like she would come to any harm from being-unpetrified.
Velvunk

Velvunk feels himself growing very stiff.
fort save, please, Velvunk
Velvunk almost freezes.
"Whoops...bad ghost...argh"
Fort: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (19) + 13 = 32
Yvra Brunhasson
"Woah! Don't look at the statue. Whatever medusa did that is trying to petrify us.
Do any of you know magic to reverse petrification?"
Compensates for nothing!
Cani cunning plan has!
Gripping his bedroll, Cani runs up to the statue and wraps his bedroll around the statues head.
Good thing you be Dwarf-Dwarf statue, if you was Ogre-Ogre I would have to climb climb!
Fort save and Dex check if neccessary.
Fort: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (17) + 19 = 36
Dex: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8 I hope I dont have to climb!

1 person marked this as a favorite.
"Not that it'd be important for gathering information or anything, but maybe a bunch of scrolls or salves or whatnot to help deal with petrifying magic might be handy... and maybe some smoked glasses for those who aren't super-good at seeing things?" Petrahk offers while considering options.
"Don't ask ME to cast any scrolls to de-stone folks, though. That's not my wheelhouse unless you want the statues melted down."
Strongly recommending we go back, because it will also be the 'good' thing to make people not-stone unless they're oread...
Compensates for nothing!
Great Idea Lady Petrahk! Apsu says it is always better to save hostage life then to smesh hostage taker, hostage taker smesh can be done when hostages be saved! You related to Apsu by any chance? Could take days to prepare materials because I think needs complex mixing yesyes
Cani is awed by Petrakhs Great reasoning, or he pretends to be?
He does wink at her.
Bluff: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
Perhaps he is not completely clueless of the fact that the projected spirit is still there and hears everything?
Oh my, am I subtly influencing you via mental Osmosis?
Whats Osomosis, beautifull knower of many interesting names?
Thankfully for you, the biology lessons I do teach on occassion have other topics
First aid? Very helpfull topic that is.
Oh, Nurse roleplay? I can totally do that!
Weee, another step towards redemption!
You are actually adorable Kobold.
Compensates for nothing!
Hurriedly double checked my item calculations, which happened to have been wrong, after hurriedly downgrading his weapons (forgot redeemed is a +3 not a +2, and that ring of prot is more expensive per bonus then cloak of resistence) Cani has spent 182K, expected wealth level of 185K for a level 14 has about 2K to contribute.

I'll contribute 1000. I don't think break enchantment would work because "the effect of a spell with an instantaneous duration can’t be dispelled,"SRD
Yvra Brunhasson
Looks like they cost 1,650 each. I only have 695 GP at hand, currently, but I can contribute the 650 for one (leaving me with 45 GP pocket change).
.
I'm also happy to even out any imbalanced spending when we get loot.
.
And in terms of amount? It seems like we might be happy to have four of them, if we can afford it. Especially if one of us were to fail a save vs Petrification in the near future...and I'm sure we'll find others like this statue as well.
.
If we go with 4 scrolls, that's 6600 GP (of which we currently have:
2000: C4N
1000: Velvunk
650: Yvra
...meaning we'd need 2950 more, if we go with Yvra's suggestion of 4 scrolls. (1300 GP more, if we just take 3.)
Yvra Brunhasson
When Petrahk offers to share generously from her 'horde', Yvra nods in gratitude.
"Then follow me!" Yvra will lead to wherever he thinks such scrolls would be available.
K.Local, if needed: 1d20 + 31 ⇒ (9) + 31 = 40
Let's buy 4 scrolls then...and if there aren't more available, let them know they might need to make some more!
.
Once we have them, I'm happy to return. We should have both Petrahk and Yvra carry 2 apiece, so if one of us gets stoned, the other can use one to save them.
