Welcome to the Discussion Thread

Male Human Lvl 5 Expert

This sounds like it's going to be so much fun. Looking forward to it. Theoretically, when are we starting this? Also, can we post into the gameplay thread to give flavor text of setting up in town with our pre-game buys?

Sczarni

Male Human Rebuilding Kenabres Info

I am going to start once there are six of you ready to go in here, others will show up at whatever day it happens to be when they do show up. So basically for the first week, or two RL it will be one day in game. After that we will switch to a week at a time.

IF you want we could start earlier say a week before the 16th when I was intending on starting, That way you all can get a feel for the actions and such before the meeting with Winston over in the recruitment thread.

But ill need at least three people in here for that.

How do we earn XP in this system to level up?

Sczarni

Male Human Rebuilding Kenabres Info

There are four ways.

1 - Completing X % of the Rebuilding will grant some XP.
2 - Each day you would earn 10% of a standard encounter.
3 - Each day you can spend your characters time defeating 1 CR equilivent encounter (for 1/4 XP of a CR5 encounter, unless you enter the arena and actually duel a creature then it would be worth 100% of cr=your level of a creature)
4 - DM Fiat, I may award XP for accomplishing something really cool like earning 100GP a day or even 1000gp.

I posted a day with me in gameplay.
Ill post two more today. Kristoff you can show up on the 4th.
So you see a couple more daily examples before you start working with your teams and such.

When would you pay the -200 cost you have listed at the top?

Male Human Lvl 5 Expert

Awesome. Looking forward to it.

Sczarni

Male Human Rebuilding Kenabres Info

That's just the total for everything I spent for the day/week. or it was supposed to be. 4 Magical Capital @ -50gp each.

You take Day before totals - New Capital Costs + Building Gains + Team Gains = Current Day totals.

Pay cost before you count new yield as look at like the daily gains are paid at the end of the business day when yer counting yer loot. expenses have to come out of whatever ya made before the current day started.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Do you plan on using the special event rolls as well?

Sczarni

Male Human Rebuilding Kenabres Info

Yup I do, Each of you will have your own different %'s if needed will roll on subtables most specific to your buildings and such.

Special Events though will not take place right away though, Ill phase them in once you guys/gals get a hang of how the days work. No need to fully complicate things at the get go for ya all.

You arrive on the 14th.

On the 15th you all basically just flat out bought your rooms & teams & such. That's why you cant get them for the build price, but have to pay buy price for initial assists.

On the 16th you go through your various rooms and teams and decide which to keep for personal use and which to use for making profits.

Your Free to post your actions for the Date of the 17th over in the gameplay thread. The first campaign day.

I will make one more post with Winston. To show you guys more then just two days together. Feel Free to post after you see winstons next post in gameplay.

Question, why is it that the crypt in your example is producing 2 Magic? Should it not produce 1 considering the +5 from the Crypt would leave you with a result of 15 when taking 10, thusly producing 1 based off the Capital Earned chart?

Silver Crusade

Male appears as a Dwarf to the Eye DM Level 0

15/7=2.14 rounded down too 2.

The chart is based on a five day work week. with each roll as /1 and counting for 2 weeks.

/7 is more realistic and applies a more real daily total.

Sczarni

Male Human Rebuilding Kenabres Info

I got up to the 16th done, since you all havnt dotted or posted in gameplay, I think it may not show up.

But your good to post your turn for the 16th

I'm just about ready to go. I have to finish a few things up tonight and then I'll be able to make my initial post. However, I have a question about buying resources. If our initial gold piece balance at the beginning of a day is not enough to afford the resources (Goods, Influence, Labor, Magic) for the day, can we spend part of our gold piece profit from that day to acquire them? Or would we simply lose the chance to gain those resources?

For exmample, let's say I have 100 gp currently. Throughout the day, my buildings will produce 100 gp, 8 goods (80 gp cost), and 7 labor (70 gp cost). Do I lose the resources that I can not afford with my initial 100 gold pieces from the day or can I spend half of the profit gained from my buildings to buy the remaining 5 goods/labor?

Female Kitsune

Alright, Think I'm about ready to jump into this then. just need some time to make up the proper post and start earning some money.

Another useful tidbit of information would be how many days are in each month.

Sczarni

Male Human Rebuilding Kenabres Info

Yup, think of it like this.

I'll use my rogue Uzziah for an example, hes part of a council of thieves, his cover is a gardener, he is a tiefling. but he is not evil. Each night before he goes to sleep, about 2am after counting the books and knowing what gold and other capital hes got on hand for the next days endevors.

Even though I have 19 gold at the start of the day.. and my buildings will generate more then 1gold, I still cant pick up 2 goods, cuz the money from the buildings and such will not be in place until nightfall.

Sczarni

Male Human Rebuilding Kenabres Info

bottom right corner of your screen is a calendar, it will tell you how many days in a month. Only the names are changed, as far as time goes in the pathfinder universe.

So current month in game coordinates with February?

Sczarni

Male Human Rebuilding Kenabres Info

looks good, your turn should be on the rebuilding info link. I havnt added any buildings/teams/xp yet for anyone.. I was going to do that later tonight for everyone.

Female Kitsune

I think I've been reading the wrong part of the downtime rules on how to earn capital... Can someone check my math and point out my mistakes?

From my understanding of how all of this works, I have found two issues with how you calculated everything.

First, you round down when figuring out how many points of Goods, Influence, Labor, and/or Magic you have the potential of earning. So instead of having the potential to gain 2.14 points of Influence from your Diplomacy roll, you instead gain the potential to earn 2 points of Influence.

Second, you still have to spend the earned cost in gold in order to actually acquire said Goods (10 gp per point), Influence (15 gp per point), Labor (10 gp per point), and/or Magic (50 gp per point).

This in return means that you could not afford to acquire all 8 points of Influence (120 gp) considering you only had 22.85 gp to purchase said materials with at the beginning of the day. Instead you might wish to either acquire 1 point of Influence (15 gp), 2 points of Goods (20 gp), or 2 points of Labor (20 gp) for now. You can do this with your Diplomacy roll and by spending the listed amount behind the option you want to go with. This in turn will allow you to focus all of your buildings on generating gold so that you can afford to acquire even more points of Goods, Influence, Labor, and/or Magic the following day.

Female Kitsune

Ok, that's not exactly what I was doing, and I was getting it wrong a different way. The way I had interpreted it was that you did you're work for the day you took the gold value you earned and applied it to the cost of the commodity you're going for, so I didn't think I earned 8 points of influence I thought I had earned 8gp towards the 15 I needed to get an influence.

Now I've read a bit more closely and I see where it explains the system a bit better but I'm still slightly confused, it seems to say you can spend a day working to buy as much of a commodity as you want for half price and also that you can work to get them for free by using an appropriate check? Or is this a way of limiting how much you can buy?

If it's a way of limiting the amount you can buy then by my math I would have been able to buy 5 1 from my own check (>10but<20) and a total of four from my building, (2 checks >20 Even together <50 so 4). So if I pay the 75 gold, which I had at the beginning of the day, I should be able to buy said influence, leaving me with the gold I earned as my total reserve...

Do I have that straight now? I think I do, I'll correct for my next daily post.

My apologies, I got my numbers mixed up on what you started with at the beginning of the day.

With 75 gp at the start of the day, you have a few options:

  • You can buy materials (Goods, Influence, Labor, Magic) at Purchased Price.
  • You can use a skill check to give yourself the opportunity to buy materials at the Earned Price. (For example your Diplomacy roll)
  • You can use a room or crew to produce the material so that you can purchase it at the Earned Price.
  • A combination of the above.

For Influence, the Purchase Price is 30 gp per point and the Earned Price is 15 gp per point. So of course, it's nice to get it at the Earned Price as opposed to the Purchase Price, but you do have the choice to purchase it outright.

As for your Diplomacy roll, you take your result and divide that by 7 to get the number of points you managed to haggle down to the Earned Price. So with a 15 you managed to score the opportunity to buy 2 points of Influnce at 15 gp each. This leaves you with 45 gp if you choose to purchase both.

With that said and done, you have the ability to buy 3 more points of influence at the Earned Price. If you wish to do such, I would suggest using your bar to produce it. The 21 your bar has on it's captial roll gives you the ability to produce 3 (21/7=3) more points of influence at the Earned Cost.

This is assuming that everyone is working a full 7 days a weeks. Please let me know if you are doing otherwise, and I'll adjust the numbers.

Female Kitsune

Actually under the downtime rules in the Ultimate campign book there is a table for earning Capital on a daily basis with skill checks, giving appropriate skills for each Capital type and saying that the use of an innapropriate skill results in half value. And states that in one day a check of 10 or more can be used for 1 Capital, at least 20 generates 2 Capital, at least 30 generates 3 capital and so on.

So you should be dividing your checks by 10 for daily Capital generation rather than 7.

Look at the section entitled Working Weekends. There is a reason I added in that my values were based off working a full 7 days a week.

Edit: That's where I was pointed to when I asked a similar question.

Sczarni

Male Human Rebuilding Kenabres Info

I didn't get an update for your post Ffion, ill check it in a moment, but Fremont has the right of it math wise.

I have hard copy of UC. disregard that table. That table assumes that you are working 5 days a week, M-F with weekends off for 100% of your rooms/teams and Never will have them work 6 or 7 days a week.

I am working with the assumption that this following makes sense.

RAW says if you work your teams/rooms 7 days a week, they generate their total/7 per day.

RAI: So to represent days off you simply don't get one days worth of income from whatever is off that day.

It has worked so far, for the campaign that my character uzziah is in, for a few months. For simplicity sake. I am just assuming/requesting that everyone is going to use the /7 math, vs the /10 math.

___
The prices for the Capital are
10gold to Create: Goods/Labor
15gold to Create: Influence
50gold to Create: Magic

x2 ^ if you are buying the Capital already created.

Roleplay:

After introductions have been made:

"So Winston, my good chap, I'm sure we have all heard, and now seen, the troubles that have befallen this fair city of Kenabres and I must say that it is an honor to have been brought in to help rebuild it. And it is with that thought in mind that I ask, what does the city currently require? How might we best help in the rebuilding of the city?"

Female Kitsune

Hmmm, I see, well that makes since, will you allow me to adjust my first day earnings based on this then? Only because as it stands I earned 8 Influence but can only pay for 5, I would like to convert 3 of that back to gold.
Edit: I see you addressed this already
Also something else I thought of since the last post what sort of rulings are we going to have on trading Capital between players? Is this going to be allowed? and if so will it be regulated by any requirements or just by agreement between the two players?

For instance if I wanted to trade some of my abundant influence for some of the captain's labour could we make an agreement on our own, say 2 labour for 1 influence, or would you require us to trade on equivalent value, say 2 influence for 3 labour.

Sczarni

Male Human Rebuilding Kenabres Info

Trading between NPC( IE Winston will be standard rate of 50% full buy value, IE create rate 2 Influence for 3 Labor)

Trading between PC's is whatever you work out within this Gameplay thread, or the Discussion thread (you can spoiler tag stuff that any non-mentioned pc's/me in the thread are unaware of)

"We need to rebuild town, over half of it has been destroyed, the burial grounds I was maintaining accounted for 100% of the dead in the demon attacks on Armasse."

Beyond the town in general, both the Kite and the cathedral need to be rebuilt. Each week I have been instructed to pay for 1% of their constructions with moneys sent south from Dresden.

"How much do they estimate it will take to rebuild the Kite and the cathedral?" Octavius would ask in curiosity. He believed it prudent they get these monuments back up as quickly as possible for morale support. However, being a prudent business man, he also knew that they might be better off in the long run for him to take his initial earnings and reinvest them so that he could help more in the future.

Male Human Lvl 5 Expert

Roleplay:
Kristoff has spent a large portion of today sorting the materials and designing the framework for a bakery. Late in the evening, he makes a stop at the manor of Winston seeking an audience, plans in hand. As soon as the door is opened, he launches into his speech.

Master Winston, a pleasure to make your aquaintance. My name is Kristoff. I am one of the men sent to help rebuild Kenabres. I must say that my wife and I have settled in well and have found a rather pressing need for businesses to be rebuilt quickly in the city. I have procured a shop near the edges of the devastated sections of the city and seek what permissions I need to begin construction immediately of a new market district there. I have plans here *unrolling parchment onto a nearby table* to start with businesses offering foodstuffs such as this bakery. Beyond that, I imagine a bustling hub of commerce including inns, stores, even an academy or college if we can manage it, along with a strong group of artisan guilds. What say you?

Sczarni

Male Human Rebuilding Kenabres Info

Winston gestures at a scroll upon the table

recovery plans:

Rebuild Cathedral of Saint Clydwell: 00.00%
Needs: 192 Goods, 14 Influence, 176 Labor, 22 Magic (Cathedral x2, Monument x1)
Rebuild Fortess of the Kite: 00.00%
Needs: 660 Goods, 124 Influence, 592 Labor, 8 Magic (Castle x4, Monument x1)

"They need a fair bit of supplies. is true.

Female Kitsune

I just realized by reading Shael's character bio that I forgot to take my trait, adding it now I took a religion trait that gives +1 Diplomacy.

Also I wanted to point out to Shael that the statue room specifies that it's basicly just the plinth and that the statue needs to exist separately. After the devestation of the city there are probably a few fallen statues around that you could recover and refurbish, maybe for a couple of goods or labour at Winston's discretion.

"Ah you must be Shael yes? Owner of lovely little alchemist's shop I passed the other day. When do you plan to fill that plinth?"

"I was also wondering if any strong man might have means to give a poor fair lady some aid. I would be willing to whisper a few words in the right ear in exchange."
Looking to trade 2 influence to get 3 labor.

Also a question about the rebuilding, are we expected to donote resources to the total, or perform the rebuilding room by room? for instance can I donate an influence towards the cathedral or would I need to build an alter for it in order to contribute?

So we have the following options for helping rebuild:

  • Construct Rooms: Each 500 GP value of rooms.
  • Craft Magic/Mundane Items: Each 1000 GP Value of Goods/Magic Donated
  • Donate Gold: Each 2000 Gold Crowns Donated
  • Heal Others: Each full days spend doing do.
  • Construct Teams: Each 500 GP value of teams.
  • Rebuild Cathedral of Saint Clydwell: 00.00% worth ?? RP
  • Rebuilt Fortess of the Kite: 00.00% Worth ?? RP

All of this means that we help rebuild Kenabres by making new rooms and crews to work for us, donating capital of some sort (GP, Go, Ma, Actual Items), healing the populace, and donating to the rebuilding of the Cathedral of Saint Clydwell/Fortress of the Kite. Correct?

Sczarni

Male Human Rebuilding Kenabres Info

Aye, that is correct.

"The value of your teams and rooms, every 500 gp worth of either (buy value) will bestow confidence in the people.
Healing the people of the diseases and suchs the devastation has brought upon them. or donating the capital to rebuild either of the two landmarks within town. IF you wanted to build a room and donate the room, you could do that as well."

"As far as how much rebuilding either of the landmarks will helps the people, that's something I am not even certain of, I know it be more then just a little bit. And I also know the Queen would look in favor upon whomever rebuilt her Kite, and the Crusade would look in favor upon whomever rebuild their Cathedral, perhaps the gods would too."

"You are Here, to make, an impact, and change things around. Though I don't recommend going against the Queen's Laws, even my protection only extends so far with the crusaders.."

Female Kitsune

Yes I more or less understand the concepts of how to help rebuild, I was curious about the method of rebuilding the landmarks, whether we were expected to rebuild full rooms, or just donate the Capital. It seems that we may do either which makes total sense and on that note...

"Well I believe it is of great importance that a community in such hardship as this have something to look up to. And considering the nature of their plight a symbol that gods have not abandoned them even more so. I can not do much yet, but I will see if I can get word into the right ear about this."

Donating 1 influence to the cathedral

No worries, I understand why my GP gain appears to be going down. The projected gain only takes into account the loss of GP at this point in time. It will change as the profit from each day is applied.

Sczarni

Male Human Rebuilding Kenabres Info

yup, yup, just didn't want to you be like huh? :)

Ive got the spreadsheet good to go atm. Just need to add XP, which I will do on game day #7.

_____________

Winston raises his eyebrow."I was not expecting that at all, I will see that word is spread about your establishment, as a reward for being the first to donate anything to the causes."

I appreciate it and it is possible I would have misinterrupted it to begin with if you had not pointed it out.

Also, does this mean we are ready to proceed on with the next day?

Male Human Lvl 5 Expert

Roleplay:

The liveried doorman stares dumbfounded at Kristoff. "I'm pleased that you are so happy to help rebuild Kenabres, Mister Kristoff. Perhaps you would like me to take you to Master Winston and you can let him know of your plans as well?" He gestures to Kristoff and Kristoff sheepishly rolls up his plans and follows the doorman to meet Winston.

Roleplay:

"Indeed, it is rather important that the city have something to keep their morales high. You can expect donations from me and my partners soon."

Out of Game:

Are we just about ready for posting the next day?

Kristoff, my understanding is that you can not buy/purchase/manufacture materials (Goods/Influence/Labor/Magic) without having the funds to do such at the beginning of the day. Thusly you would have to start your day with 15 gp if you wanted to acquire a point of influence that day.

Female Kitsune

That seems to be the way we're working it. For something like your room that only produces Capital on days you can't, or don't want, to pay for it you might want to make note of it in your breakdown.

Male Human Lvl 5 Expert

Alright, I'll redo the post. No problem.

really? I didn't know that, I thought it came with a statue. Thanks

Roleplay

Thank you Ffion, I hope to get the statue sorted out soon, but I have a few details to sort.Give me a day or so, and perhaps we can help each other

Female Kitsune

Yeah. if you read the monument description under buildings it's described as being a combination of furnishings (for the statue) and a statue building for the plinth.

Winston, do you want us to keep posting a day per day or would you prefer for us to wait until you give us the go ahead after each day?

Female Kitsune

Good question, I decided to go with the "Better to ask forgiveness then beg permission" theory.

Male Human Lvl 5 Expert

Can we be constructing multiple rooms at a time that are part of the same building?

Sczarni

Male Human Rebuilding Kenabres Info

Fremont, For now yeah.. soon as I get the spreadsheet squared ill say something. Havnt been home all day or ida done it earlier.. I gotta leave again now, but ill have it all updated by tomarrow daytime.

Kristoff, you can start as many rooms as you want. you could have a simple shack, with 10,000 storage attached to it and "under construction"
