Tolvan |

Well, I am headed off tomorrow for DragonCon and will not be back until Monday night. So, if Mug shows up between now and then please have him bot me. Everyone have a good Labor Day weekend.

Kimberly Snow |

just a bump but feel this is dead now.
maybe recuit a new GM?

Kimberly Snow |

I think we are done here...
I see some new Carrion Crown games recruiting... should I apply? I would hate to bail on this I like you guys way too much.

Tolvan |

I concur with Andjela. Mug is a great DM.
That said, no reason not to apply to another game. Mug will not mind if you play it with another character. I think I would recommend you not play it with Kimberly though. But your call.

Kimberly Snow |

I like Mug as well, I don't think I'll even bother with the other game... it just won't be the same.

Anna Dunsany |

I haven't posted here in a while, but I'm still around.
As long as I'm on these boards, I'll be ready to pick back up with this game. Hopefully Mug's life will get to the point where he can have the time to pick this game up.

Kimberly Snow |

just a still here post...

Kimberly Snow |

please come back

Kimberly Snow |

did everyone get my message?
or should we call it completely dead and place this game on D.N.R. list
I personally would like to go forward if we can find a GM.

Anna Dunsany |

I got your message Kimberly; sorry I didn't respond. I've been mulling it over how I feel about ditching Mug for someone else.
I suppose if Mug gave his blessing, then I might be for it, though we'd have to find a good GM with the time to read through 5,500 posts. Not saying that it's not entertaining; I've gone back and perused our old adventures some. (As an aside, did you know Pyotr looks different now? The old player revived him for another campaign and changed his avatar.)
What does everyone else feel like? Who's still around?

Kimberly Snow |

I did not get any word from Mug, I didn't want to abandon him either, its just that I saw the game move out of active due to no posts, I wasn't getting any confidence in Mug being able to return.
of course I would love for him to return but realisticallly, he has much better things to be doing now.
Tolvan thinks maybe do a quick sum up of book 2 and start fresh at book 3

Tolvan |

Yes. I am here. In more games than ever. But none are better than this one was when it was running good. Such is life.
I have wondered if we could even self-run this final battle to conclusion. Someone would have to get book 2 of the AP. I do not know what the creature can do, but I suspect its play is pretty strait forward. Thoughts?

Kimberly Snow |

I don't think this one is coming back. It's been fun and i will miss it. but If another Carrion Crown comes up I may just apply there.

Anna Dunsany |

I starting to rethink the idea of getting another game master in to pick this one up. Another GM that's running a game I'm in also has a Carrion Crown PBP going that has about reached the point where we are. I'm thinking of reaching out to him and asking him to check us out. At least I'm pretty sure he's got the books!

Kimberly Snow |

i agree as well, i would like to continue

Anna Dunsany |

Just an update, I was politely turned down on the offer to pick us up as game master. He said he'd peruse our game, so there's always the possibility that our awesome roleplaying will inspire him to change his mind, but I'm not going to keep my hopes up.
Any other suggestions?

Kimberly Snow |

I posted a request in the recruitment thread.
we'll see if there are any takers.

Kimberly Snow |

I got someone interested
I need everyone to check in. He wants to know who all is here and willing to continue

Danica Quinn |

Sorry guys. I haven't checked in a while. I'm game to continue if another GM will have us.

Kimberly Snow |

I may have a DM lined up I just posted for him I can PM him as well but lets give him a chance to see the post first.

I can do it - just need a few things.
1/ a bit of understanding. I am GMing two games ATM plus I tend to lower level play so that moving forward I may need you to help me out on rulings etc
2/ I get involved in international projects a bit. From time to time I may disappear but will give you notice if and when that is necessary.
3/ some one to manage the loot etc via a google drive sheet.
4/ some one to tell me how involved has a certain secret organisation been involved with you or has everything been driven by you as characters.
5/ how content are you (short term) to ride the plot train until I am comfortable?
Finally can someone write me a summary of where you are at as your characters see it.

Kimberly Snow |

This game was really on hold from July, right?
yes it was.

Tolvan |

Hey Helaman. Welcome, and thanks for stepping up. I am willing to help any way I can and will agree to write up a summary from the wizard's point of view. But I may not find the time to do so until after Thanksgiving.

![]() |
I've read the games last few pages.
We can go one of two ways. We can epic battle this one or I can fast forward it to the end of the battle and bridge to book 3?
For my own part I'd like to bridge to book 3 as the final battle with be a real tough one to play out.
Your thoughts?
Also do we have a dedicated loot tracker person?

Anna Dunsany |

4/ some one to tell me how involved has a certain secret organisation been involved with you or has everything been driven by you as characters.
5/ how content are you (short term) to ride the plot train until I am comfortable? Finally can someone write me a summary of where you are at as your characters see it.
Okay, wow.
First off, welcome, and thanks for volunteering to take the helm of this adrift campaign. Hopefully Andjela will be by soon enough. I take it then you're familiar with the Carrion Crown AP?
#4: Not sure what "secret organization" you mean. We're on the trail of the Whispering Way; I'm pretty sure we mined all the information available to us in Ravengro. There was also some secret group that Her High Judgmentalness Daramid belonged to. Me and her never really got on. I might have been partly at fault there, but I couldn't believe her nerve about interfering with the trial of the Beast. Sheesh. We should've just sprung him.
#5: I suppose, but I think there were a few spots we went off the rails a bit. There was the time when Pyotr got possessed (I don't think that was in the script), the seance (which was EPIC by the way), and then the funny thing about the letters and the advance of cash from A.A. I don't trust him one bit, but I'm happy to spend whatever gold he sends our way. I wonder if that was just the GM's way of making sure we were at the proper wealth by level. We also met up with a traveling side show of freaks, but we haven't seen them since we left Lepidstadt.

Anna Dunsany |

As for a summary from Anna's perspective:
Well, let's see. I was on the run from Irovetti's goons in Pitax when a professor I knew sent me a letter, inviting me to his home in Ravengro. By the time I was able to get there, he was dead. It really was a shame; I liked the guy. He had a lot of other friends as well, an orc, dwarf, elf, and a creepy haunted child. Good people, actually. Then Andjela showed up late.
Turned out, the professor was murdered while he was investigating these Whisperer guys. They had turned the old Harrowstone Prison inside-out with some sort of magic, and the bad ghosts up there were loose. One of them got a local guy -- man named Gibs -- to do some blood writing to weaken the one good ghost still there.
Pyotr the orc went missing, the dwarf got sick, and Danica showed up just as the town council got attacked by these flaming skulls. The villagers decided then to hire us to clear out the prison, because there were the ghosts of five really bad ghosts that were about to do some major damage. Ask Kimberly to sing you the song. Creeps me out.
We went up there, met the warden's wife in ghost form, and got most of the rundown. We found the five bad prisoners' belongings, which were cursed. That first day, we figured out what we had to do.
That evening, Kendra (Lorrimor's daughter) conducted a seance, where we learned a few things, mostly that we shouldn't touch the prisoners' stuff. (Sorry, Danica.) But also, Kimgald the dwarf got possessed too, and he attacked us. We knocked him out, thankfully. But the spirit board told us that the one behind this whole thing was Adriss... A or O? It never finished spelling it out. I wonder if Adriss A. is the A.A. from the letters. I'll get to that.
Next morning, we go back to the prison. We fight some more ghosts. We fight Pyotr, who was also possessed. He wasn't so lucky.
There was also an...
iron maiden
.
.
.
Um, sorry. Anyway, we fought all the ghosts and gave the warden's wife her husband's badge, which stopped the threat.
We stayed in Ravengro for a while, then we needed to deliver some of the professor's books to Lepidstadt. There we find out there's going to be a trial for this big old monster they call the Beast. This judge wanted us to look into it -- am I allowed to talk about her involvement? I still don't trust her.
We find out the Beast was framed, big time, by these alchemist guys. There was also a village nearly wiped out by a wraith that they blamed on the Beast. That was pretty scary. We were able to find the evidence that proved the Beast was innocent, and I really couldn't believe it -- the tribunal actually let him go! The mob wanted blood, and I was sure they would cave in to their demands. But thankfully Tolvan had that stinking cloud spell to take some of the fight out of the mob.
The Beast left, and invited us all to his dad's place outside of Lepidstadt. Before we left, though, we got a letter and a huge amount of gold from some "benefactor" with the initials A.A. Even though I didn't trust it, I know how to spend it.
So after I'd tapped out Lepidstadt of its luxuries, we went on to visit the Beast's dad. He lived in some crazy house on the side of a cliff, which had been attacked. We got through most of the place, even though there were some crazy traps and weird monsters this guy either collected or created.
At the highest spot, we found this guys little servant, who gave me a great little ring that let me turn invisible. I found Caromarc (that's the Beast's dad) inside a... a...
Thing... for days...
I've got to get him out. I have to.
Problem is, there's this monstrosity that's guarding him. The others are trying to get the Beast to fight it, but it's going after them! Tolvan, and Kimberly, and Danica and even Andjela -- It's ripping apart the ceiling to get to where they are. So I'm going after it, too.
I can't believe I'm doing this.

So firstly kudos to your GM. He sounds like he did a great job.
I'd like to see a show of hands on if we fight the big fight or allow me to close it out and push to pt 3.
There isn't any wealth to be gained in the fight itself. Not sure if you've been looting the Schloss or not. Do you all feel appropriate for WBL?

Why do you think we waited so long? :)
I'm ambivalent about whether to roll out the last fight or not. It seems like it's set up for the Beast to do most of the fighting. I was planning on sniping once since I've got one crossbow bolt treated to penetrate the creature's DR. Then I was going to head back down and free Caromarc from the coffin thing. Probably by feeding him the gaseous form potion.
As far as looting, we "borrowed" the goat figures thinking he won't be upset if we used them to free him. I don't know if anyone wants to keep them. I dont think we looted anything else. Andjela had been taking umbrage at the thought. I've fallen in love with my ring of invisibility, though, and will put up a fight if I have to give it back. Or at least throw a pretty big tantrum. :)
(Please don't take it from me.)

Kimberly Snow |

I would have to say that Anna has summed up much of everything so far.
as far as the big fight I am good with just closing it out then pick up with a role-playing to tie up any loose ends.
as far as threads, either is fine, but it can take a while to take control of a thread. maybe starting a new one is in order.
as far as WBL I think Kimberly is close if not a little under but I don't really worry to much about that. as long as I am having fun and we work together I am sure everything will work out.
Kimberly has a few new magic spells she has yet to try out anyway.
the biggest thing with Kimberly is the fact that her teddy bear kind of freaks Anna out some. especially when it moves by itself. (Haunted curse) and she has a habit of channeling when she is surprised by a bad guy. but she is learning to control that better. (especially for Andjela's sake)
Kimberly started by viewing most things through the eyes of a child, but I think she has matured a bit since we started. though sometimes the others still shield her from things. But everyone in this group are her new family, and she cares for them as family.
I vote letting Anna keep her pretty ring. I think it means she is gonna marry Tolvan. and since Kimberly is a priestess of Pharasma (well actually an oracle) she can perform the ceremony.

Kimberly Snow |

Also another point;
Kimberly has a variant channeling (protection) but we have been playing it a little different allowing to decide when channeling if she uses the variant or not.
I think it was explained (after we already started) that this was not an option, but we pretty much decided that was silly.
that is kind of like a house-rule

Tolvan |

I think you nailed it Anna about the secret org. Tolvan knows about it as he has been collecting clues in his little notebook and even quizzed the judge lady about it. He did return the book unopened though, fulfilling a promise and hoping to prove himself trustworthy. He wanted to join, but she denied all knowledge of the society. Tolvan did not push.
I am willing to skip the last fight, but believe we had it somewhat under control. I'd rather fight it out but understand how much work that would be. We were well buffed and Tolvan had summoned some help (Lantern Archons, extended, that were peppering the creature). The Beast has been called and was on the way. I do not know how long it would take for the beast to arrive But Tolvan has a fly spell running, and plenty of other spells available, Danica had an AC over the top and those Ivory Goats to summon stuff with, Anna has that ring of invisibility and a plan to free Caromarc, though it he may be too weak to help. And we have an archer pally that I recall being at pretty much full strength. So, if we do not fight out the final fight I hope you would agree to fast forward to us having won and receive some reward in both exp and gratitude from Caromarc. I am unsure how he will react to us after he is freed. He may have clues for us to follow the cult. He would certainly desire us to go after them after what they did to him. He may also want our help to recapture or kill anything left behind. I believe we bypassed a number of encounters that need cleaning up during the last rush to this tower. Not sure how much loot was there but seemed like we knew of at least 2 or 3 watery encounters we skipped in the building before the last tower.
We have a few nice trinkets for sure. I would hate to give up any of it as it was hard won. Tolvan has a Staff of Swarming Insects for instance.
I am in another game with our Pally and will invite him back when you say. I think he will come back if I invite him.

![]() |
Sounds like whoever this A.A guy is, he got you your WBL gold for the most part.
I'll have Cormac give you a reward of sorts, give you some down time to buy from your underworld contacts.
As for the ring on Invis?
Its a 20k GP item, and puts you massively over WBL when counted along with your other adventuring gear (I'm not counting the other stuff like the houses and carriage and such, because thats just cool)
I am OK with letting it be a LESSER ring of invisibility. Say three times a day, and cast as if by a level 5 caster (5 minutes of use)? You get to keep it and all the groovy memories, you still get your invisibility and I don't have to worry about creating giant flaming eyes and shadowy figures in cloaks using big whopping swords to balance out the item.
Whaddya say?

Kimberly Snow |

got a message from Andjela
has chosen to not rejoin... I think she (or he) was originally planning on leaving at the end of book 2 anyway. based on what I was sent.
so it is just the 4 of us that remain.

Kimberly Snow |

A meat shield would be nice... it is a shame loosing her though I just hope to get a player that will mesh well with our dynamics. (I am sure there are some out there)

Anna Dunsany |

We could also just go with four. It would be tougher, but I thinkbwe could do it.

Kimberly Snow |

sure, put my healing to the test huh?

Tolvan |

Thinking out loud.
I concur that the ring puts Anna over the recommended limit, but that may be intentional. It was in the AP and not made up by Mug. Not sure it makes sense to take it away. That item was put in here for us to find, right? Won't the AP will assume we have that item as we move forward. I have to admit to know knowledge of the AP though.
I do not mean to make future challenges too easy. I seem to recall the ring belonged to Cormac, or to his familiar. Or did I get that right? If so, maybe we only get to keep a subset of what we find, but I hate being punished for doing the right thing. Your call of course.

![]() |
No one is being punished.
The Homonculous does indeed have a ring of invisibility. At no point does the module mention that he give it away.
Your previous GM may have given the ring away but I can't discern his actual motivation for doing so. It may have been that it was to make someone more survivable to the Promethean or there may have been some other reason. Maybe the creature would have wanted it back at the end of the combat.
Without me knowing why (the negative side of coming in cold) I can't tell.
There is a bunch of stuff in the modules that is held by NPCs, some of it pretty good, but that doesn't necessarily give the players access to it. Its not penalising you if the NPC in question doesn't give you their magic items.
In this case its a story effect so that the homonculous can keep Cormac alive without being smashed to goo by its bigger 'brother' and communicate knowledge of the Bondslave Thrall machine and notes about the WW.
My compromise is to let the player have the ring (I can feel the attachment) but limit its use to 3/day and 5 minutes at a time.
