This campaign is set in the mythical land of Raithun, where an evil is brewing, the clouds of war are starting to gather throughout the kingdoms, and Heros are needed to answer the call of good and fight!
The first advice that springs to head is that when it comes to combat, you roll initiative for everyone, and then set it up into "blocks" to speed things along.
Example of Initiative Blocks:
GM rolls init for everyone, results are:
Group A
Player 1
Player 2
Bugbears!
Group B
Player 3
Player 4
Player 5
Goblins!
Group C
Player 6
Player 7
Within a given Block, players may post in whatever order they like. In the above example, players 4 and 5 don't have to wait for player 3. As soon as the Bugbears act, all three of them are free to act whenever they are able to. When all three have acted, the GM moves onto the Goblins and announces that it is Group C's turn.
If you are using battlemaps, post the link in the Campaign Info tab in the campaign description. That will mean that the current map will always be at the top of the page.
Another good place to post the current map link is in the Race area inside your GM profile. That way it will always be at the top of each of your posts.
If you choose not to use a battle mat, be liberal and forgiving with nebulous concepts like movement distance, Attacks of Opportunity, and Areas of Effect. Without knowing exactly where you are in relation to everything else, it is very easy to accidentally screw yourself over by moving in a way you didn't realize was dangerous, or putting a fireball in the wrong place.
Lots and lots of detailed description is necessary for PBP play without maps.
Thanks Kale, I've read a few of the other campaign posts here and there so I'm getting an idea of how the players do it, still, its not like doing it yourself. Pathfinder is actually new to me also. I stopped with AD&D 2nd edition in the early 90s then picked back up with my son with 4e this past year.
Well its a good game ... dunno that anyone needs to elabourate on that, except a guide to GMing effectively. Particularly combat >< That's the part I'm having a hard time with.
Hope I'm not posting too much fluff, just thought I'd fill in between posts from others. Let me know if its too much, not sure how quickly things get started in PbP.
Happy Easters all! :) I'm fine with fluff or jumping, but RIna is being shy. XD
Happy Easter!
My wife just left for the airport so I'm all by myself today. I'll try not to post too much. Fluff or jump, all cool by me. Seems the fluff helps tie our group together more though.
OK, so Chad and I have taken actions, I guess we are waiting on Corynne to do hers before Kale decides to act? Just trying to make sure we have an idea of which goblins have been hit and where we stand without cluttering the gameplay thread. AFAIK one of the ones on the left took 3 HP and the wolfrider (if Chad hit his AC) took 8.
Trickiest part is being the spell caster who knows that if they play thrie hand too soon they could be a) Lynched by her new companions, b) cost the group their ride.
Just letting you all know, tomorrow, I'll be getting on a plane to the US. So there will be a huge gap of time where I will most likely not be online. I might check in from Beijing, but I can't guarantee it. Also, I'll be in the states for about a week, and I'm sure I'll have internet at various points, but I'll also be moving stuff and visiting friends, so I might not be available quite as much as I have been. Aside from my day in the Beijing Airport I should manage once a day just the same though!
