Nidjena Cantabriar |
Wow, that was... efficient.
Not much here of help to me, but I suppose this could come in handy
Nidjena takes one of the clubs and tucks it into the string belt holding her rags on.
Before we get out of here Osbert, would you mind telling us what's in these other cells? Anything we can use?
If I've got it right, we were in 18A and Grumblejack was in 19? Anything interesting in 18 b through e?
Saulric The Black |
Saulric moves towards Carol, I swore I would see him to his love, try to strike him again and you'll have bigger worries. the man snarls
Carol safan |
Saulric... Don't you know that this man betrayed those he swore to serve at the first sign of danger? Friends who are easily won are never the most easily trusted, our lives are on the line here... Your love is on the line here. Would you let this fool be a risk to us without any potential reward?
Saulric The Black |
I gave my word I would see him to his love, not trust him with my life. And I will do my best to it through.
Cedric Alzir |
I suppose realesing us was help enough.
Cedric sighs at the two. Then turns to Osbert and moves close.
my friend, I detest bearing this bad news to you, however it seems that your wife has been killed. The very people you serve slew her as a heritic when they raided the area she was kept. So, I can keep my patrons promise and reunite the two of you, or, if you desire it, give you a chance at vengance for your wife on the corrupt souls you so valiantly served for years.
Ready an attack. If he screams, or if he declines the offer. I'll stab him as promised.
hmm. Was hoping to wait to tell him after we got out. Oh well.
Saulric The Black |
Saulric sighs and moves closer. I made an oath to see you to her, and I intend to keep it. No lovers should be without each other.
attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
GM Qwerty |
with three vicious killers surrounding him Osbert will fall under their blades
Carol slashes at Osbert drawing blood, and as he stands there in disbelief the group argues over finishing him off, when told by Cedric his wife is already dead, Osbert looses what little hope he had in him and is unaware or uncaring of the blows that finish him off...
Seeing fresh meat Grumblejack walks over and tears off an arm and begins chewing...
Saulric The Black |
Enjoy your afterlife with your wife my friend. Your sacrifice for the cause of love will be remembered.
Saulric The Black |
If we moved quietly and ended them all there'd be nobody to chase us or spread the news of our escape. We could even rest here and destroy the next detachment to come through before leaving nearly as hale and hearty as before we came in here. The reputation we'd gain his nothing to scoff at either. If you want underlings, you could attract many.
Is the uniform of a Corporal distinctly different than that of the rank and file?
Nidjena Cantabriar |
How does the Talingarde prison service fair as an equal opportunities employer? Would a female corporal raise suspicion?
After watching Osbert's murder rather dispassionately, Nidjena speaks up:
"Well, you'd best remind me not to displease any of you.."
After waiting for Carol to search the man:
"I suggest you take his armour Carol. While I'd love the idea of pretending to be a corporal and bossing these guards around, I think you'd make better use of it than I. Besides, I can get them to follow my every word no matter what I'm wearing..."
To Saulric:
"I'm not sure resting's the best plan. These guards presumably have families that will notice when they don't come home after their shifts. I agree we should move quietly, but I think we just do it quickly too."
Carol safan |
I may be able to use this uniform to make a ramshackle disguise. Won't fool many people up close but it could at least get us out of one or two fights. Carol takes everything of the corps and dons the armour she then starts to prepare her short hand disguise.
disguise as a corprol: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
GM Qwerty |
Carol thinks she can pass for a Brandescar prison corporal in bad lighting and with no one stopping her. Nidjena tries to help but just gets in the way while Carol fixes her hair and face.
OK so three dead guards, three sets of chain shirts, three longswords, three shields and three somewhat bloodied uniforms. how will you conceal the blood on the guards uniforms, with Osberts being the least bloodied? Also what is your plan to get through the prison? So I know how to adjudicate in advance.
Carol safan |
I suppose we try the stealthy approach. If anyone has prestidigitation now would be the time to use it, otherwise the blood would be pretty easy to spot. If all goes wrong... We still have a damn ogre...
Well I guess thissel do... Everybody wrap chains loosely around your arms and follow me.
Saulric The Black |
No. I'm dressed in uniform mostly to get out of rags. And people? We were released by key. None of us are wearing chains.
GM Qwerty |
As the group decides how to get out and wait for Grumblejack to finish his meal they look at the next room which is empty, having killed the guards there already. This is a small guard room and the landing for the stairs from the first floor. It is lit by a sconce holding a torch. There are two doors – one leading the cell block (room 18.) and the other connecting to the interrogation room (room 20.) Otherwise, this chamber is plain with little furnishings save for a small table and two chairs. The fireplace here is a relic of the old castle great hall.It is almost comically large.
Nidjena Cantabriar |
Nidjena appears to be absent mindedly poking around the ashes in the fireplace out of boredom while she waits for Grumblejack to finish. In reality, she knows how good fireplaces are for hiding secret compartments.
perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
GM Qwerty |
This room is currently plain and featureless save for a single stout wooden table and four chairs. Closer inspection a reveal that terrible things have happened in this room – telltale bloodstains in the corners and the faint odor of burning flesh. A small object against a crack in the wall catches your eye, as you inspect it you discover it is a small gem that was once set into a piece of jewelry that must have become dislodged from the events in this room. While small it is of fine quality.
Nidjena inspects the chimney and discovers she can hear echoes of people speaking from down below coming up through the chimney. She does not quite make out what is being said, but she does know it sounds like a male and a female speaking to each other.
Grumblejack finishes his eating ad squeezes through the door frame to join the group. Without speaking to anyone he simply walks down the stairs...
Saulric The Black |
Saulric shrugs happily. Apparently he wasn't the only one in the group who preferred a fight.
Nidjena Cantabriar |
Quietly:
It sounds like there's a man and woman talking downstairs. I say we take the stealthy app... oh never mind. Leave some for us Grumblejack!
Nidjena takes her head out of the fireplace and tags along at the back of the group.
Carol safan |
so here comes an ogre and 4 criminals walking down the stairs. Absolutely covered in blood and gore (except for maybe Nidjena.) Wielding blades and wearing bloodyed garments of their slayn captures... Yea. That's pretty metal...
GM Qwerty |
Grumblejack boulders down the stairs with the team following him. As the group makes their way to the bottom floor they see they are behind a closed door at the landing of the staircase. Grumbljack stops to get a bone out from between his toes before he moves to the door.

Nidjena Cantabriar |
Don't worry, Nidjena doesn't want to feel left out, she's probably daubed some blood on herself too
Thinking there's no sense wasting intelligent life, Nidjena's happy to let Grumblejack go first.
Whenever you're ready Grumblejack. There's probably more food through that door.
Saulric The Black |
Saulric squeezes past the Ogre and bends down to look through the key hole.
Saulric The Black |
If we just run out there we're going to bring the whole prison down on our heads.
Nidjena Cantabriar |
After Saulric explains the situation, Nidjena makes a suggestion:
I may be able to distract the one with the horn, or get him to drop it before he has a chance to use it. Then if we can take them out quickly we should still have the element of surprise on our side. Either that or we try to find another way out.
Carol safan |
I'm thinking have Nidjena ready to cast command on the one with the horn, then we let grumblejack charge down the hallway. I will also ready an intimidate attempt, I give him THE EYE level my sword at him and say.
You're next. showing off all the blood on me.
intimidate: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (12) - 2 = 10
Nidjena Cantabriar |
That works for me
Nidjena will move to the back of the group, but makes sure she's directly in front of the door. She gets ready to command the one with the horn to do nothing but walk towards her (and everyone else) as soon as the door opens.
Delaying an action to cast Command:Approach (DC15) on the one with the horn as soon as someone else opens the door. Hopefully he'll walk straight into enough attacks of opportunity to finish him off.
