Game Master Runner188

The first thing you notice is the pain. Your head aches. Did you drink too much last night? No that isn't right. Where are you? This isn't your bed. In fact it seems rather hard.

You finally manage to open your eyes and when you look around, you see you are in a small stone room. There is one door exiting the room. Your not sure where it goes, but it seems to be the only way out. And hopefully, you'll find some answers as well.

I am going to sit up and check to see if I have all my gear with me, and then I will take 20 on perceiving what is going on around me with my tremorsense (it is 60). If I can not sense any other presences I will go and take another 20 and take a close look at the door, in particular paying note to if there seems to be traps.

You sit up and look around the empty room. There is nothing in the room besides you, and you seem to be missing much of your gear. Some of it is still there though.

Spoiler:
You don't have your backpack(haversack/sack/whatever you use) but you do have anything worn (belts, cloaks, pouches, etc. These do include magical pouches/garments). No weapons (unless they were in a pouch).

When you finish ascertaining what you have with you, you stop and listen to the ground, feeling it's movements. But there is nothing out of the ordinary in it's movements. So you move to the door and look. There you see an ordinary door with a simple lock. No traps, just a locked door.

I am going to move to the center of the room and sit down to attune myself to the element of fire (this takes an hour to complete). When I am done I will shape into a magma elemental and place my hand on the door to set it on fire.

The smell of smoke fills the air, the door burns quickly and the room fills with smoke.

Through the smoke you see a long corridor, also made of stone. It slogans about 60 feet before opening up into a large room. There you can see some barrels scattered around the doorway. Halfway down the corridor there is another wooden door in the wall.

Do you get all attributes of a magma elemental? Or do you keep some of your own? Is this as elemental body? If so which level?

DM rolls:
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15

DC 28 perception check (not tremmorsense):

There are some creatures at the end of the hallway speaking in low tones to each other. The corridor makes it impossible to make out what is being said, but the voices sound urgent.

It is essentially a modified elemental body spell but the difference in that I am adding some traits to each elemental that further differentiate them in abilities, and also make sure that no one particular type stands out above the rest as the best choice. So right now I am for all intents and purposes a medium sized magma elemental with the ability scores of my character. So now the fun begins.

I will move up until I am 5 feet from the next door and take a full round to use the lava puddle ability and create a 3 inch deep puddle of lava at my location. When I am finish I will reach down and take another full round action to focus the elemental energy from the lava on the floor into a magma whip (essentially a medium nine section whip). When I have made the whip I will use my free hand to pick up some of the remaining lava and throw it at one of the barrels.

I do need the perception check first. If you didn't make the DC, you don't know about what's under the spoiler. Either way, they'll get turns between what you're doing. Also, while your rolling perception, may as well roll initiative. If you need help with the rolling just hit "show" next to "how to format text" below.

Ah, I wasn't sure about what that meant.
1d20 + 17 ⇒ (10) + 17 = 27 perception

1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12 initiative

Sorry, should've explained that more

Initiative:

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 101d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 31d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20

After they've revealed themselves, initiative will proceed as follows. They will get a surprise round.
Derdry
bignumbers
Dendeny
Dendry

After a moment, a small green creature with a large head and hairy ears steps around the corner appearing at the entrance of the great room. His eyes are wide and surprised. "Something's there for sure! It's not who we brought in though."

Suddenly everything goes dark. From behind the first creature comes another voice, "Of course it's him! Fire!"

The creature remembers the gun he's carrying and points it at you. He fires. (I know you have darkvision so I continued to describe it. They don't know).
1d20 + 9 - 6 ⇒ (1) + 9 - 6 = 4
But the gun does not seem to fire properly. The creature steps back behind the wall.

Your turn. The other turns were taken out of sight from you

How far away is this creature from me? And what is it?
1d20 + 17 ⇒ (1) + 17 = 18perception
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27knowledge nature

Also, I should ask if this transpired before or after I tossed hot lava at a barrel. Because if so things should be starting to catch fire.

Before. If you stick with your original actions (I was giving you a chance to revise them if you wish) because they were aware of the smoke before you were aware of them, this will all happen just before you move up to the door. If you stick with the before mentioned actions, they'll get another turn before you finish creating the pool, (I interpret round 1 as being move action, 30 feet up hall. Standard, start the full round action of creating magma pool.)
As you search your thoughts for what the creature might be, you recognize it as a goblin. It stood 60 feet away from you when it fired, but your movement up the hallway halves the distance. Thouch it is still behind the wall.

Right then, I will move to the opening where the goblin stepped out from and look for the goblin and if he has friends
1d20 + 17 ⇒ (12) + 17 = 29perception

My standard action I take depends on what I see

Before we move on, I just want to get on the same page. This is to replace your previous actions right? So this is round one?

Yes.

I've been trying to make a map for you, but so far unsuccessful. I hope to have one up tomorrow, but for now. . . .

The goblin stands just to your left, within easy reach. Just next to him stands a drow, longsword drawn, but it seems to be far larger than normal. Off to your right an orc stands with his large axe drawn.

Making sure I am not within 5' of them I am going to cast fireball at the goblin. The spell DC is 18

*I guess I need to roll damage dice for it.
6d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 6, 6, 2, 2) = 21

Just so you know, you are still in the entrance of the hallway when you fire. You are 5' from the Goblin, but because of melee vs range rules of attacking around corners, it draws no AOE. I do have a map, I just can't figure out how to save it in a usable format with this software. I'll try to get it up as soon as I can

DM Rolls:
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 91d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 201d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20

A small red spark moves from your finger to the goblin. As it hits it explodes blasting fire all around. 2 of the barrels are instantly destroyed. The drow is too large to be able to get out of the way very well, but the goblin and orc manage to avoid some of the fire.

As soon as the fire disperses, the goblin quickly clears his gun before pointing and firing at you again. What's your AC?

More Rolls:

1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 141d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

The Drow steps forward a little because of his reach, he is staying out of your reach. He quickly casts a spell and then swings at you twice in quick succession. The first attack, his sword crackles with electricity.

Even More Rolls:
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 203d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 2) = 42d6 + 5 ⇒ (4, 2) + 5 = 111d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 122d6 + 5 ⇒ (4, 3) + 5 = 12

Then the orc moves forward. He steps between you and the Drow. He swings his axe.

Last Few Rolls:
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 211d12 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22

The rolls are all possibilities. They don't mean anything until I get your AC

AC is 20

By the way, those modifiers on the to hit rolls look kinda low... What is the CR of this encounter? I made this character level 6 for this round of testing.

This is the easyish encounter. The more challenging one is still upcoming. This one is CR 5. You took 37 damage. And it is now your turn.

What kind of spell did the drow cast? Also something I forgot to take into account is that I have burning magic as part of my abilities for this form. The drow will catch fire for 1d4 rounds doing 3 points of damage a round. This will happen any time they fail a save.

I will move back 30 feet and use scorching ray on the orc. This is a ranged touch attack with no save (Burning magic only works on spells with saves)
roll to hit vs. touch AC1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
damage dealt. 5d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 1, 3, 1) = 15

AOO's:
from both the Orc and the Drow.

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 202d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 1) + 6 = 101d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 121d12 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19

As you move back, the Drow and Orc each take a quick swing at the open opportunity. But the Drow caught the Orc's head with his arm as he swung, making the Orc miss. But the Drow's sword struck true putting a small gash across your chest. But you are still able to get away. You take 10 damage.

A line of fire stems from your hands hitting the orc hard. He curses. A guttural cry echoing in the cavern.

The orc charges down the hall and swings. But he misses.

As the orc steps out of the way, the goblin jumps back into the entrance and fires at you. The bullet grazes you. You take 1 damage from it.

The Drow he points at you and a blue light comes out. Then the drow collapses throwing off his aim.

More rolls:
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (1) + 11 = 121d12 + 13 ⇒ (6) + 13 = 191d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 192d6 + 1 ⇒ (3, 1) + 1 = 51d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 111d3 ⇒ 2

DC 17 Spell Craft Check:
He was casting Shocking Grasp, but something was different about it.

DC 22 Knowledge Arcana:
The drow was somehow able to blend his spell casting with his regular attacks

I will take a 5' step away from the orc and cast burning hand at it. DC 18 reflex.
If the orc fails his reflex save he will be on fire for 1d4 ⇒ 3 rounds taking 1 point of damage each round. He can either let them go out on their own or take a move action to attempt another DC 18 reflex save to put them out.
damage 6d4 ⇒ (3, 3, 4, 4, 2, 1) = 17

Rolls:
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
1d4 ⇒ 2

Flame shoots from your hands covering the hallway. The door next to you is destroyed. The orc tries to dodge the flames but the door collapses into him, knocking him out.

The goblin begins to shake. He takes a quick look back, but decides it's no good. He fires again. This time the bullet flies true. It strikes your shoulder then goes clean through the other side.3 points of damage.

Rolls:
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 231d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 31d20 - 1 ⇒ (6) - 1 = 5

I will take a full round action and puke lava on the orc, it will make a 3 inch puddle on that square. If the orc is still alive, it takes 2d6 per round.

* Also I should say that once this particular encounter has finished I am going to stop and do a major overhaul of the class as it stands. Basing this off of a druid, while technically accurate to the mechanics I am using, leaves too many problems to solve. So I am going to base it off of a monk which gives me a more solid system for melee, which is what this class is attempting to lean towards, without having to reinvent the wheel so to speak.

Lava covers the orc burning away large chuncks of flesh. The smell of burnt orc fills the cavern. The goblin wretches for a moment before firing again. Pain flares up in your arm as the bullet hits. Then the goblin runs off to the side.

Rolls:
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 281d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 51d20 - 2 ⇒ (18) - 2 = 162d6 + 3 ⇒ (6, 2) + 3 = 11

You take 5 damage

I will scoop up a handful of lava and move up so I can see the goblin. Once I can I will throw the lava at it. 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11

The goblin dodges the flying magma with ease. It splats against ether stone floor and lies in a small puddle. The goblin takes aim and fires. But he misses once again.

DM Rolls:

1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 181d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

I am going to shoot him with empowered scorching ray.

1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26 to hit vs. touch AC
5d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 6, 5, 3) = 21 damage
Applying metamagic empower, 21*1.5=31.5 damage

As the red bar jumps to the goblin, he tries to move out of the way, but it his him right in the gut. He lifts his gun, but it falls limp from his hands. He falls on to of it. Face to the ground.

encounter over.
