Sven Bjornson |
Sven finishes the final clasp on his armor as he reaches the rest of the group.
"Well met", he offers in greeting.
A pretty one that lass.
Pezmerga |
About 6 miles southwest of town, as advertised by the Ulfen man, there are two carriages. One is turned on it's side, and the other still stands, both are visibly damaged by the attack.
It is very close to the border wood, and the air is noticeably colder, with snow blanketing the area. The ground is littered with slain humans and horses. Further south of the carriages, more bodies lie around what appears to be a frozen statue of a man holding a sword.
Sven Bjornson |
Sven motions for the group to look around before advancing and examining the frozen statue, weapon in hand.
"Gods above, what happened here?" he asks in a low voice.
Aksum |
"Powerful magic is at work here. I pray that we do not fall victim to it as well."
Knowledge (arcana) or Spellcraft to examine the statue: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Hege Vargsdóttir |
"It is frightfully cold for a summer evening," Hege says and shutters involuntarily even though she isn't cold, it's more of reflex. She limbs after the stone man towards the fallen relying on his assumed experience. "Is this really the work of the fey?" Her voice shakes a bit as she asks. Almost reflexively she draws her dagger.
Winter's Breath |
Spellcraft the statue: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9 Derp derp, silly witch
Knowl: Nature about fey that might have these powers1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
"Yes, it is unseasonably cold. But this region does not know what real cold is. Any of these men from the north could tell you that." Winters Breath stands by, letting the brutish humans poke around a little more. The big stoney one moves with the grace of an avalanche...
Sven Bjornson |
"Jadwiga is a name my father taught me. They are the spawn of Baba Yaga - cruel magic users with a talent for witchcraft. My father often told me stories of how their kind would torture and curse the Ulfen people."
DM, where you at?
Pezmerga |
@Larma: You notice the Frozen statue is really a man frozen to death. Also you find it a little odd that the carriage that is still standing had the doors barred with a spear...
@Aksum: Definitely was some magic used here. Seems like Natural magic though.
Magnauk: You easily find tracks leading off into the woods. You guess they are at least a dozen strong. You also notice the carriage that is standing, has it's doors barred shut by a spear.
@Winter's Breath: You recall about "Winter-touched" Fey that have the power to do such things.
Sven Bjornson |
"I think we've seen enough", the big Ulfen says. "Orc, if you can follow those tracks. Show us where they went."
Sven readies his axe and shield.
"Weapons at the ready everyone. Be prepared for an ambush."
Larma |
"Not so hasty man. Let us first look in these wagons for information or supplies." Larma examines the turned-over wagon but waits to remove the spear until he feels enough of his companions are paying attention, in case something dangerous should leap out.
Aksum |
"The boulderman is right. If the creatures wanted the Lady dead, she would be here with the others. We can spare a few minutes to make sure we are as prepared as possible."
He holds his gun at the ready as Larma prepares to open the door.
Sven Bjornson |
"There's a woman in the hands of dangerous fey and you want to take a moment to make sure your blush is perfect? Take your time. I'm here to rescue her and I plan to do that."
Sven takes off following the tracks.
Hege Vargsdóttir |
"Keep who safe? Hege asks clearly not following the Boulderman's chain of thoughts. She looks to the dagger in her hand then to the giant Ulfen then back to her dagger, Why would it be necessary to say that, are these people not trained?
"Would it not be wise to finish here before moving on? she offers.
Sven Bjornson |
I didn't think Sven had learned Magnauk's name yet.
"Well met Magnauk", Sven says while giving the Orc a hearty clap on the back. "It's good to see another proper warrior that understands urgency."
"Try to keep up", the hulking Ulfen offers as a friendly challenge.
Pezmerga |
@Larma in the first wagon isn't much. There are 3 nice looking Courtier outfits though.
Everyone prepare yourselves! After Larma removes the spear, four zombies burst through the door!
I will roll initiatives to speed things up.
Aksum: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Hege: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Sven: 1d20 - 6 ⇒ (11) - 6 = 5
Magnauk: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Winter's Breath: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
Larma: 1d20 ⇒ 10 forgot -5, so 5.
Not gonna bother with a map for this small encounter. Assume the zombies are 2 the left of Larma and two to the right. All in a line.
Magnauk and Sven are about 30 feet away. (since you started off to track.)
Winter's Breath is about 40 feet away. If he is still by the "Statue". If you are closer that's fine.
Larma is adjacent to the zombies.
Hege is within 10 feet? (Assuming you were close to Larma)
Aksum is within 10 feet as well I assume. Take a free shot if you want since you were ready with gun aimed! Also you are first to act in Round 1, in addition to that.

Sven Bjornson |
Sven spins around at the sound of the gunshot.
"What the hell was that?" the big Ulfen asks aloud.
Double move back towards the party.
Winter's Breath |
FML, the one thing I'm effectively useless against!
Contemplating whether or not the rest of the party would be able to handle the zombies, Winter's Breath pulls out his dagger and moves towards the party.
Standard: Pull out dagger
Move: 20 feet towards zombies.
"I have not prepared for fighting the undead, I will not be able to help much here.

Sven Bjornson |
Assuming any of them are still alive come his initiative round 2.
Spotting the walking dead attacking the party, Sven rushes into the fray.
With a wordless roar not unlike some great beast, the hulking hulfen grips his axe with both hands and slams it into the nearest zombie.
