I'll come up with something for the NPCs. How many do you want? 5-6 or so?
I'll say at least 3, preferably from 2 or more settings (i.e. work and home), but feel free to do more if you feel inspired.
Raven has no contact with his family. They are ultra right wing Christians, and hate his lifestyle. If they found out he is a nova, they would go ballistic, and attempt to drive the devil out of him. He has both parents and 5 sisters.
Cool. Does he have a girlfriend?
Does Connor, the agent, travel with the band? How does he feel about Raven leaving the group or does he not know yet? Is Connor the one who usually handles the money?
Where is the band staying in Tulsa? Don't have to be specific, but where on the spectrum of rundown motel to nicest hotel in Tulsa are they staying? Looking at Resources 3 leads me to believe they're not spending thousands of dollars a night on accommodations.

Here's some of my thoughts on my concept. :)
Given Name: Gideon Michael Collins, goes by Michael or Mike
Background: Growing up in a small town in the rolling hills of Oklahoma is fairly boring for most kids. However, it's doubly so when you're the pastor's son and he has a strict sense of the kind of image you should project as such. That's how it was for Michael growing up. Home-schooled and raised by biblical standards, his father enforced a strict standard for his behavior at all times, including who he could see and where he could go. While his mother attempted to provide Michael with some freedom, whenever his father would find out it would be the back of his hand for Michael's mother and a stern lecture for Michael himself. This went on for the first thirteen years of Michael's life. It was at this point though that things took a turn into uncharted territory. Shortly after Michael's sixteenth birthday, a stranger approached his father and spent several hours talking and arguing with him behind locked doors. When the man stormed out, Michael's father went nearly insane, calling his wife all kinds of names, beating her nearly senseless, and almost into a coma. The whole time, his father forced Michael to witness what "God had in store for the wicked who come from Satan's loins". As his mother lay bleeding and Michael held her head in his hands, a miracle occurred with her condition improving at his touch. The longer he held her, the more quickly she recovered. His father quickly snatched Michael away with a grin that only few could manage. "The Lord does work in mysterious ways boy, you shall be your mothers salvation and the world's enlightenment." Within weeks, Oklahoma was the home to the newest Televangelical ministry, a branch of the Church of Michael Archangel. Beginning the week of Easter, every weekly service featured the son of the evangelist performing faith-healing, which more often than not were apparently successful.
Over the next few months, Michael, while still 'performing' for his father (even if he didn't understand why he was able to do what he could do), began trying to reach out and understand more of the world outside his father's restrictions. When Minister Albers, a competing televangelist from just over the state line in Texas, was killed by a bee attack, Michael's father took it as a sign to expand his ministry and began arranging for stations which would broadcast his services in neighboring states as well.
As the eruption of more an more Novas came to the news and the Church of Michael Archangel tried to say it was the beginnings of a demonic host returning to signify the end of days, Michael's mother had had enough and encouraged her son to leave. When he hesitated because he didn't want to give up helping with the gift that he had, his mother argued against him staying because the the longer he stayed and used his ability, the more power his father would wield and she didn't want that for the sake of his younger sister. Michael agreed and decided to wait until after the next services to leave when his father would be more at ease as he always paid closer attention to Michael and had more things for him to do the closer to a Sunday service they got.
It was during the next service however, that everything changed for Michael and his family. As the portion of the service began where Michael would perfom his 'healings', Michael began feeling strange. ...MORE TO COME...
Appearance: Tall and lanky, Michael really typifies the country boy look. T-Shirts jeans and sneakers or boots round out his wardrobe on a typical day. Getting dressed up, usually means his best pair of jeans, a button up shirt and a tie, but on one or two occasions, he's been convinced to wear a suit. However, instead of his sun-bleached brown hair being a well groomed hairstyle, it (as well as the rest of him) is overall a bit messy and unkempt from his time on the streets. His blue eyes tend to have a bit of a glossed-over look to them until he's had a chance to warm up to someone and let his defenses down a bit. It then that his excitement and joy for life and adventure cause them to truly shine.
Personality: Because of his sheltered upbringing, up until recently Michael has been a true introvert. With all that has happened, it has shaken him however. He has begun a very steady climb out of his shell of quiet shyness and into the larger world. He has a tendency to look at every little thing with wonder as if it was the first time he was seeing and experiencing it (and in many cases, he is). His lack of social skills, combined with inexperience around women may prove some of the most difficult obstacles to overcome however.
Interests: Books, Libraries, Parks, TBD

Nice, Wei. One thing- in her (? not sure what gender your character is) reflections on factions, you said "they can't seem to find a 'fix' for my situation" Does your character see the gender change as a curse? Are you dropping the trans aspect of the pre-eruption personality? I didn't really see any mention of it other than a reference to LGBT job offers.
Was thinking of going with gender-curious/fluid guy to start, but at eruption any pretense of choice or self-definition was forcibly removed and being turned into a woman without any sort of control over the situation has really turned him sour on the whole deal.
So yes, he very much views himself as being cursed despite being a flying brick. But since the eruption was caught on television, folks assumed that he was just 'expressing her inner self', etc, and well, the media inertia can be a devil to overcome.
Thinking Cipher 3 to reflect the fact that he's gone 'off the grid' in Tulsa?

Valerie Munns, Val to her friends, runs the Desert Mills motel after the death of her husband. In her late 20s, and with no children, she has taking a liking to Steven/James. Has a weekly knitting club every Saturday, their "b!#++ n stitch" which Steven has so far managed to avoid being introduced to.
Jose Martinez runs one of the local car dealerships, specializing in imports. He and Steven discovered a mutual like of European cars, one night in the local bar. Jose has been trying to pawn off an old, original Porsche on Steven ever since, but wouldn't dream of jeopardizing their friendship.
Johnathan Miller, Big John, is the manager at the construction site where Steven works. John is hard working and expects the same from his crew, and Steven isn't going to let him down. Big John is single and fancies himself a ladies' man, but his manners leave something to be desired. Not that it bothers him, or even slows him down.
Daniel McGinley is the guy who hired Steven for security work, recognizing his training. However Daniel himself is a coward and lazy, but he is a good manager and keeps his guys happy and paid. Just don't expect him to take any bullets for you.
Lisa, who seems to have a new surname every week, is a pretty teen who hangs around the parking lots near Desert Mills motel. She seems to know something about everyone and Steven is a mystery she can't wait to crack. She talks hard, but Steven's had to save her bacon from a local gang once already. So she feels she owes him... But he is "like, so mysterious!"

Makes sense, thanks.
Cipher 3 also makes sense. But keep in mind that if she starts hanging out with active novas or getting caught on camera with guys like Steven and Samnell's guy, who are both on the run from the Directive, that Cipher rating will start to degrade.
Could you give me a couple NPCs to work with? At least 3 names and short descriptions, from work or home, but feel free to make up more if you feel like.
Thanks, Curtisin.
Since you mention a teenage girl hanging around I'm wondering how old Steven and the other characters are. Your guy is former army, so I'm guessing late-20s to early/mid-30s.
Arknight's guy is probably mid- to late-teens, at a guess.
I'm guessing early/mid-20s for Raven and Wei's character.
Ares and Forge both sound older, probably mid/late-30s?
Samnell, what about your guy? I could see mid-20s for a young tech guy working for the government.

Samnell |

Cool. So we've got 2 guys being chased by the Directive. :) We can talk about the big, bad secret via PM.
Will do.
So he's wandering around, trying to avoid notice. What would he do if he saw a nova using their powers? If he's trying to avoid notice I'd think he would turn and walk the other way. Do you want him involved with the other PCs? I can do a solo Jason Bourne riff with you, but it'll probably be more fun if you can interact with other people.
I'd rather interact with other PCs. :)
The intention is to make him able to disappear and elude at least mundane attempts at capture fairly easily, so he wouldn't see intervention as necessarily at odds with longterm maintenance of his cover. If I can afford it.
If not, then he still sees himself as a solid citizen type. If he sees someone in trouble and thinks he can help, he would want to. He's a bit conflicted over it all, but he'd do what he thinks is right. Possibly what he found out that turned him on his employers [PM pending] would also drive him toward action.
Also from the other post: I see my guy as in his mid to late 20s. Out of college and a few years working computer security before he saw too much.

No girlfriend lots of lovers.
No he does not travel with the band, but he does set up the bookings. He doesn't no yet about the breakup, but knew there was friction. He handles the money, but pretty much takes his cut, and then pays us our cut. It would either be a good motel or a lower end hotel. I figure the part with his family might add some plot to the campaign. He is 25.

Name for our sometime heroine: Jane Lee Paxton (Alias)
Born: James Nathan Speer (shifted name to 'Jaimie Natalie Speer' when pushed under the media glare after eruption reluctantly.)'Nova' Name: The Mediator
Parents: William and Brenda Speer -- they were supportive of Jaimie's situation but were also a little bit greedy and may have tried to sell off some commercial rights they weren't allowed to. Despite that, they do love their (now) daughter and wouldn't want anything bad to happen to her, or for her to get caught up in something 'bad'. They don't believe she's dead, but they don't have proof either way and have been holding off investigating 'just in case'.
Boss: Raymond Patterman -- career manager at the Save-A-Lot. He doesn't know who Jane really is, but was really desperate for someone to work nights and wrangle carts, so he didn't push *too* had on making sure everything was 'perfect', and may have pulled a string or two to make sure she got hired despite the issues with her not having a lot in the way of documentation.
Supervisor: William Edwards -- the hard-ass nit-picking micro-managing boss that is constantly riding on Jane's tail, because with her (Mega) Stamina it always looks like she's slacking on the job, even when she's doing more work than some of her less-motivated co-workers. He suspects she's on crack, meth, or some other form of pharmaceutical (this is part of the reason that Cipher is only 3. It was higher but having a supervisor poke into your past..)
Friend: Joanne Wilson -- When Jane showed up in town with very little, Joanne took her in, helped her get set up, and in general is a cool person. She's not asked for anything in return, and she's the one person Jane has been considering approaching with information about her real background, but is worried about her safety if she starts letting that information out...
I'm guessing early/mid-20s for Raven and Wei's character.
It'd be rude to assume an age, I was thinking that Jane appears to be in her early/mid-20s, but due to having (Mega) Stamina has that appearance despite actually pushing closer to her 30s?

Dragonofashandflame |

Interesting. I can see his plasma powers being useful in construction/demolition, but he sees fancy novas with similar powers on TV getting rich as Elites and members of T2M and apparently just as socialites. Why wouldn't he do that instead of working a 9-to-5? Is it just because of his daughter? If she wasn't around would he go join the XWF or DeVries or the Army or something? If that's the case, does he harbor any resentment toward her or her absent mother for holding him back?
He tries to stay out of the limelight for a variety of reasons. He's seen T2M and the elites fight other novas. He doesn't want any of that heat to come to his daughter. The same thing with the Army. Fighting in a super-powered war... it's not him. He's not Pax or Totentanz, he's just a regular guy. On the other hand, he knows that something's gonna happen. Construction is a holding pattern, and he's only going to be able to stay under the radar for so long before someone comes knocking. It might be a recruiter for the army, a Utopian scientist, a XWF manager, or some psychopath who wants to make a name for himself by killing novas. He can't hide, but he's paralyzed with the idea of where to go from here. Every choice he makes has downsides for his kid. Although, the XWF is the least onerous of the bunch. It's also the most shaming. He wants to do something his daughter can be proud of, while also not putting her in any danger.
He tries to hide it from his daughter, but he really does resent her mother. The gal just dumped a baby in his arms, and then left. He didn't know what to do, they were barely making ends meet as it was, and then BAM! Baby. He lost his job because when he brought her to work one day when he couldn't find a neighbor who'd sit for her, and ended up having to spend what money he did have on the kid. Because, babies are expensive, even if you're almost homeless. Ya, life would have been a LOT easier without Dee. But, she's just a kid, y'know? She makes up for all the bad times. She's his world, and he'd do anything to keep her safe and protected. So, Forge doesn't resent her, just her mom.
This guy is just trying to live a normal life, so I'd ask the same question I did of Samnell. What would he do if he saw somebody getting beat up in an alley or walked around a corner and saw a nova battle? Somebody just trying to live a normal life would probably turn around and walk the other way. Are you interested in having him interact with the other PCs? If so, how would he justify endangering his normal life by doing 'nova stuff'?
Ares uses his powers to hekp peopel when he can. He doesn't go around patrolling or anything, but he does walk to and from work instead of taking a car. And, he has stopped a few small muggings and so on.
when he does go "hero mode" his entire personality changes. He acts and speaks like a warrior from the height of Alexander's empire. He tries to project the idea that he really is Ares come to life. The armor, the weapons, the speech patterns, all of it creates the idea that he's not some nebbish bookseller, but a tough defender of the weak and innocent. Eventually, the ruse is going to fall apart. Since, it's not the most thought-out plan. But, he's just starting out.
Both ideas would get along with most anyone and actually enjoy talking to othe novas.

Wei, this is an interesting note. My understanding was that Jane is trying to avoid notoriety, not anything dangerous. Could you expand on this?
@Lorm: Is it safe to assume Raven's family is not from Oklahoma? I can't see him staying in the same state as his family if he wants nothing to do with them. Plus the rest of the band is from LA- is Raven's family in LA? I could see a bunch of Christian conservatives down in Orange County, which is LA-ish.
@Dragon: Cool, thanks. Of the 2 I think I'd lean toward Forge. We can plug him in with Steve/James, who's doing construction, too. Is that alright with you, Curtisin? Or do you think he would avoid a construction company that publicly employs a nova?
Though I think it's safe to assume that a construction company would pay a nova employee a hell of a lot more than the typical guy. Maybe he's not rich, but a small fry contractor couldn't compete with the Bechtels and Fluors of the world. Given how rare novas are- literally 1 in a million- and how in demand they are, I'd say your guy is probably pretty comfortable. Unless that goes against your concept, in which case we could try to figure out why he's not making enough money.
@Samnell: Thanks. I think I've got a feel for your guy. How low-pro is he trying to stay? Can you think up a couple of NPCs to put around him or is he a total ghost?

karlprosek |

OK. If I've asked you for a list of NPCs and you haven't already done so, please go ahead and stat up your PC.
Standard Aberrant build: 7/5/3 attributes, 23 abilities, 7 backgrounds, 30 nova points. Not everyone has the Player's Guide, so lets stay away from Merits/Flaws. If your build absolutely, positively has to have a particular Merit or Flaw we can talk about it, but unless everybody has the PG I'm going to lean away from allowing them.
Go ahead and make up profiles and I'll check out the sheets. Please make sure to include bios and your NPCs on the PC profile.
I'll make a campaign soon and link it to this thread.

To be honest, I was trying to find a good reason for Jane to stick around town when her supervisor started getting nosy about her background. If she has a friend in town that's 'got her back', it's harder for her to just 'pull up stakes' and leave, and it's also a check on her going too crazy on the power use thing -- if someone pokes too hard, they might hurt the person who's been giving her shelter and helping her have the respite from the stupid crush of attention?
Would rather avoid the 'Bruce Banner - new town every few days' sort of thing?

karlprosek |

Steven would have no problem working with Forge or other novas. He doesn't dislike them, he just doesn't think he is cut out to be the sort of Nova that General Norris would want.
I didn't mean that I thought he might dislike other novas. I was wondering if he might avoid a business that publicly employs a nova because it raises the profile of the business and might get him noticed.

Sorry my bad, misunderstood you there.
No, I don't think he would, if anything he'd just think of it as a secondary level of cover. ("Hiding in plain sight", behind the obvious Nova. After all, anything strange happens, that Nova is likely to be thought as the cause of it.).

hmmmm... I'd kinda pictured him as barely eking by? Maybe Dee has medical issues, and that's where all of his money's going? I know, I know, it's SO *that* plot, but eh, cliches are that way for a reason, right? Let's say he's able to make it with a crappy apartment. It's not a tenement but it's definitely not a "good" apartment.
He's gotta make a move somewhere, but he doesn't know where to go. Keeping a low profile is good since it keeps Dee out of the limelight, but when you're a giant man-mountain of muscle with buns of literal steel... it's hard to hide for too long.

Introducing Steven Harris, currently AKA James Watkins.
Stats are up in Profile.
Could you call out which Mega-Stamina enhancement he has? And I think you forgot to add his Mega-Sta to his soak numbers. Should be at least 5/3 with Sta 4/Mega-Sta 1.
While you're at it, could you also write out- either next to Mega-Dex by the Abilities or down near the Nova Point expenditure list- that he has the Enhanced Movement enhancement? I see it in your movement calculations but I like to be able to see things at a glance without looking around.

Introducing Raven. Ignore the second r, they wouldn't let create the alias with only one r.
Unless I missed something, it looks like your Quantum Pool should be 28, not 30. The base is 20 + (Quantum x2).
Speaking of Quantum, I'm kind of wondering why you went so high with his Quantum. I'm not going to say no, but all Quantum 4 does for your guy is make it more expensive for him to maintain and increase his range by 40 meters. He's not shooting lightning bolts out of his eyes or anything. Thoughts?
And since you're buying Tainted dots of Nova Points, what are Raven's aberrations?

Single dad with a daughter with medical issues so severe they take most of a (relatively badly paid, but still) nova's salary? Who watches her during the day? Who's going to watch her when he's out hanging out with Steven/Raven/whoever and punching out bad guys? Does she require round the clock nursing? Does she go to school? I'm not a huge fan of sick kids as a plot device; let's talk this out a little bit.
Maybe we could start here- how old of a daughter are we talking about? Leaving a 12 year old at home alone at night is different from leaving a 4 year old.

You are right about the Quantum Pool and I will fix that. I do not have a aberration, because you do not get one until you have a taint of 3. (pg 143 under the node background.) I guess I could Lower the Quantum to a 3.

In that case we definitely need to think about who's watching her when he's not home. During the day she can be at day care and kindergarten but at night if he's going to be out she's going to need somebody dad trusts who can watch her.
No problem on getting the sheet done, you can start whenever you're ready. Dragon and Arknight- don't worry too much about hurrying to get into the game. I'll be ready when you're ready.
