Haafiz |
"Yes, I met Tancred Desimire at the wedding of Michellia Blakros and Damian Kastner," Haafiz says conversationally, "A former Hellknight who fell under the Society's influence. The man was stiff and regimented, but handsome enough I guess. It was quite the sociable affair actually, I quite enjoyed it!
"Though I think it was getting a bit stuffy, and after... you know... everyone breathed a sigh of relief when... well... and attacked... and, oh, I am sorry for rambling, we have a mystery to solve!" -- I really enjoyed the scenario. With the right GM, it would be great. You should all play it. So no spoilers. Sorry!
Also sorry for this... I'm just gonna go for it!
Haafiz turns to the djinni, "You promise we get two tries at this before you have to kill us?" Even if the answer is yes, Haafiz draws his weapon, steps back out of the Jairo's reach and indicates that everyone else should make themselves similarly prepared.
Once all are ready for a potential fight, Haafiz continues, "Is the word we are looking for 'Desimire'?"
GM Silbeg |
Jairo bows his head and says, "Ah, yes, truly enlightened one. The Master truly obsesses over the Desimire brothers, who both met their end at the hands of your Pathfinder Society.
"You are welcome to pass through the portal, you have guessed well. Have a pleasant evening, and a beautiful tomorrow. Should you find my ring, you would find me forever grateful."
With that, he steps aside, and allows you past.
I will update the map for the final encounter when I get to work. Please set yourselves up in your marching order, if you have not already done so.
Pooka Bladespinner |
Pooka bows with a wry smile on his face. These guys are really good...
"Thank you Jairo. I sincerly look forward to the day we return your ring to you. And when we do, the only favor I would ask in return is that you give all the credit to the freedom fighters of Liberties Edge. For it is their cause that will be your salvation."
"Tell everyone you can." Pooka smiles, then spurs Luna forward, his heraldry bouncing and flapping behind him as he moves.
Haafiz |
"Thank you, Jairo," Haafiz bows to the djinni, "You are indeed gracious. I am sorry that we cannot free you now. I will make it my mission to listen for signs of your former mistress and take her to task. I have a feeling that our Society will be clashing with her before too long, whether I have a say in it or no.
"Tell me, Jairo, I do not like to impose upon you further, but I do need to ask: what can we expect when we through these doors and the complex beyond? Is this room likely to be guarded, and how to we get to Muhlia's suite? Are there any traps, and if so, how might we avoid them? "
I reserve the right to "buff up" based upon Jairo's responses.
Haafiz joins Pooka and the others. He swipes his blade around experimentally, ready to go. "Amaranti, I do not mean to tell you how to handle your summoned creatures, but should Kaisharga not be here for this?"
GM Silbeg |
A shallow reflecting pool is set into the tile floor, flanked by plush divans. Beyond two marble supporting columns, a heavy curtain separates the sitting room from the bedroom. A large map of Absalom hangs on the south wall, riddled with pins and crossed with colorful thread.
You do not see anyone at this time.
Take a partial action... we'll do this one at a time. Just for fun.
Amaranti |
"Wise man, Haafiz! You guess well. Is good we no have fight Jairo-djinn. Amaranti wishes Jairo happy evening. We will bring ring, if we find"
Before the group enters through the door, Amaranti raises his hand, motioning them to wait. "Moment, One friend missing..." The Garundi sits down, and places his lance in front of him. Then slowly he begins to recite the incantation to call his eidolon. And after one minute, the rune in Amaranti's forehead shines bright, and the sandy form of Kaisharga raises from the ground.
"Now all here. Then some magic, if we get fight"
Cast Reduce Person, using extend metamagic rod
Haafiz |
If we have some advance warning and time to buff before opening this door, and Jairo has confirmed it is the last room in the complex... Haafiz would like to have cast the following before opening the door, in this order:
- See invisibility
- Protection from evil on himself and up to 2 others (just stick your hand up and its yours)
- Shield of faith on himself (doesn't stack with prot from evil, but it gives a further +1 AC and doesn't provide the bonus to saves)
- Divine favor
- Brow gasher
Haafiz |
Assuming I could cast all (or some/most) of the above...
Haafiz skirts around the pool at a cautious distance, looking around for signs of any enemies. 60ft move, dashed line for his movement is included - if at any point he spies a gnoll or obvious enemy, please stop him there and I'll modify the remainder of the movement (maybe to close in, maybe to retreat - depending upon how mean the enemy looks!).
GM Silbeg |
"Tell me, Jairo, I do not like to impose upon you further, but I do need to ask: what can we expect when we through these doors and the complex beyond? Is this room likely to be guarded, and how to we get to Muhlia's suite? Are there any traps, and if so, how might we avoid them? "[/b]
"Master Haafiz, I respectfully decline to answer your question. I apologize, but I am not allowed to divulge such information."
GM Silbeg |
For sure, it would make a lot of sense to buff before you open the door. I will let eveyone complete their buffing before I do anything else - or at least wait 4 hours (real time) from this post.
Finarin Moonstep |
"Well done Haafiz. Time to end this ... ruse. Ibid I amuse that you are taking ... notes on this map?"
Preparing for battle, Finarin waves an arcane shield in front of him. Once agin drawing his powers new versions of Finarin appear to either side

Amaranti |
Quick buff-post, I try to fix the statline later.
Mage Armor on Kaisharga
Extended Prot from Evil on Amaranti
Shield on Kaisharga
Bull's Strength on Kaisharga
Communal Resist Energy (Fire) on everyone but Pooka's dog
Pooka Bladespinner |
Pooka raises his hand when Haafiz offers the protection from evil.
Once he has been given the blessing, he pops the cork off of his expensive potion and drinks it down.
"I too, am ready. Be quick on your feet men, guard your hearts. While today we strike a blow against an enemy of the society, we also strike a blow against the enemy of freedom and free will."
Taking one of Haafiz' prot from evil, and drinking a potion of bulls strength. Also burning all three of my danger wards. (each one is a separate standard action to activate) Everyone can re-roll one failed saving throw, per type, with a +4 bonus. Ready to rock!
I will wait to take my first partial action until we know we are moving forward. I check this thread enough that I don't think I will be holding anything up... :)
Edit: Never mind, I know where I want to go. Should still be able to let everyone get their buffs in without confusing things.
Finarin Moonstep |
flipping slides. Moved Haafiz movement to the back. Sorry.
Ibid. Oxley Abel |
"Well, my friend, you do know how much I love taking notes," the old man says with a laugh, responding to Lord Finarin Moonstep. A moment later, he is sure to give Haafiz the proper congratulations for solving the mysterious question put to them by the djinni. "Well spoken, Haafiz. It is quite impressive how you solved that puzzle so easily. For all the credit I give myself, I probably would have been stumped."
Once the group prepares to enter the next room, Ibid takes a moment to cast a protective spell, making it harder for any foes they may face to hit him. Next, he pulls a strange vial from his bag, and downs the oddly colored liquid inside. Once he has finished, he again raises his bow and nods to the others that he is ready to proceed.

Miro Ammars |
Miro proceeds along with his friends, too busy thinking of new songs to make out of this liberating adventure to actually attempt to help. As they make their way further along, the halfling reaches over to his fellow, Pooka, singing an enchantment and grasping the other's arm. Magical energy surges between the two, Pooka now feeling as though he were possessed of insights that were not available before. His courage swells to bursting as the bard's magic takes hold.

Oh, you meant 24 hours. That makes more sense :-) Headed to work. See you all later today
Amaranti |
Miniaturized Amaranti mounts his eidolon, who starts beating its wings to take flight. The duo takes a small test flight, flying in circles across the room, accompanied by the Garundi's booming laughter. Once Amaranti has had enough fun, he instructs the winged serpent to descend among his teammates.
"Small man Pooka! Amaranti hope there be many enemies, so we no have race toward same. I hope lance of Pooka catch many enemies!" Amaranti is obviously in good mood, back in saddle.
If possible, Amaranti + Kaisharga hover at 5ft.
Ibid. Oxley Abel |
The old man looks up to see Amaranti flying around the room while perched on Kaisharga's winged-back. As his eyes fall upon the duo, he cannot help but smile warmly at the two, realizing at that moment how far the capability and effectiveness of his Garundi companion has progressed over the time they have become friends. Likewise, his keen eyes fall over the other members of the group, each casting intricate wards protecting themselves, and others, from all manner of dangers, drinking strange vials to increase their strength and battle prowess, and increasing their resistances against the elements.
As his companions close in around the door, Ibid cannot help but feel a slight twinge of sadness for the souls on the opposite side of the portal, if they were to make any move against his friends. With their wards and enhancements ready, the old man feels that nothing could stand up to their collective might.
"It is time to move forward," he says nodding to the others. "We are ready."

Cast Heroism on Pooka
Woohoo!
Pooka turns and flashes a halfling's mischevious smile to Miro as he blesses him with more halfling-styled heroics.
"Excellent Amaranti! Yes, I too hope there is plenty of targets to go around. Though I could suggest since you are able to fly on your magnificent serpent, that you hit 'em high, and I'll hit 'em low." Pooka grins.
"I hope by the gods she is in here. I am ready to put this crooked crime ring to bed." With that, Pooka spurs Luna forward, following Haafiz and Finarin.

"You have ... no worth to me I am afraid."
Imbuing his scimitar with arcane energies, his companions can see the tell tale signs of the blade sharpening to a razor sharp point. Not content with merely strengthening his blade, the elf draws upon the arcane mysteries of Neyths to electrify his blade. The air once again fills with the pungent aroma of ozone as his blade cascades in electric sparks and arcs.
The elf lithely steps around the wounded Haafiz, blocking the halfling. Muttering his apologies Finarin swings his scimitar hoping to end this before it begins.

Map was off a bit, I fixed it. No worries Finarin, I can still move far enough to charge, Lance has reach so I can attack over your shoulders, just have to give the baddie cover when I attack, works out perfect actually if you haven't already cut this thing down by the time it is my turn.
Also - Amaranti - I grouped you and Kaisharga (always forget how to spell her name) so you can move as one "unit" now as you are mounted.

thanks for catching that, Ibid did heal previously. My tagline is updated now.
The old man sees a scuffle begin to break out before his eyes, and an enemy lunging to attack his friend, Haafiz. Ibid moves a short ways across the room, but sees that his vision is blocked by his companions which obscures his aim against the target. Even so, he knows he must act. Hoping to increase his odds of success, Ibid's awaits the calming yet inspiring words of Miro to help guide the alignment of his shot. A moment later the aged pathfinder releases an arrow and hopes a better shot will open up soon.

So I am just barely able to squeeze this in. Pooka can take a 10' path that has no obstructions so he can charge, and strike the flind over Haafiz's shoulder. Flind will have soft cover.
"We are not your slaves! No more will you assert your tyrrany over innocents. Life was meant to live free! Not subjugated to others against your will." Pooka shouts. "Today you die by my hand!"
Pooka leans back, tipping his lance forward. There isn't much room, but Luna doesn't need a whole lot of space to get up to speed. Her powerful hind legs churn on the stone floor, finding easy purchase, and rocketing the pair towards the flind. Pooka angles his lance under the armpit of the Keleshite, hoping that the decpetion works in his favor, and doesn't create an opportunity for the creature to get out of its deadly path.
Swift action to declare the flind as Pooka's challenge. Charging.
Spirited Charge Attack, bulls strength, heroism, challenge, IC: 1d20 + 8 + 4 + 2 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 8 + 4 + 2 + 2 + 2 = 26 for Cold Iron, Magical Damage, Spirited Charge, bulls strength, Challenge, IC: 3d6 + 18 + 12 + 6 ⇒ (2, 6, 1) + 18 + 12 + 6 = 45
All damage is tripled due to spirited charge feat. 18 is tripled strength (bulls plus existing) damage, 12 is tripled challenge damage, 6 is tripled IC damage. 45 cold iron/magical damage to the flind against AC 26, minus soft cover.
GM Silbeg |
Pooka charges forward lance in hand. However, as he is trying to drive 10' or so of wood and steel into the flind without hitting his companions (the soft cover) he misses the target. Barely.
Haafiz and Amaranti are up.

Holey Moley - Thats a high AC... I am so depressed that my amazing damage didn't work... /sad face /wry grin
Haafiz |
/me cracks his fingers. Get ready for some... modifiers...
I'm going to assume that I can safely pass through the corner of a freaking curtain.
Haafiz's blood boils at the sight of more of these slavers (enter rage, free action). Even through the haze of rage, Haafiz notes that Pooka's well-aimed blow somehow misses, She is better protected than I suspected! He ducks away from his opponent for a better position, flanking with Finarin, calling upon Desna to guide his blows against such foul creatures (gnoll bane, free action).
Acrobatics vs Flind Gnoll's CMD: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (14) + 12 = 26 -- Haafiz has AC 27 vs any AoO (+4 deflection from boots of swift fury... but he's already got +3 deflection, and +4 from mobility)
Positioned appropriately, Haafiz aims a mighty overhand chop against the gnoll.

Crit confirm: 1d20 + 9 + 2 - 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 9 + 2 - 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 = 30
Damage, power attack, raging, bane, inspire courage: 1d10 + 5 + 6 + 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 5 + 6 + (2, 1) + 2 = 25
Crit damage (no bane): 1d10 + 5 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 5 + 6 + 2 = 20
That's 45 damage total, assuming the crit confirms. If she remains conscious and you rule that I am able to, I will add the brow gasher effect.
Pooka Bladespinner |
Sorry to be a pest about this... It might not matter anyways. If Finarin hit an AC of 22, then how did my hit of AC 26 miss? Soft cover at worst should be a -4 (or +4 to AC as it were) which means I should still have hit... If there is another reason then just ignore me and move on, I just wanted to bring it up to make sure I didn't miss anything.
Haafiz |
Finarin missed the IC. His to hit was actually 24.
Speaking about missing things! The hyena was threatening me too.

Kaisharga |
Kaisharga would have been ready many heartbeats ago, but patiently the eidolon waits until it's master gives the command. It beats its dragonfly wings, creating the airflow needed to keep them both in the air. And it waits, and waits, watching the other mortals rushing into battle. It watches the small humanoid with dog charging in, knowing how much it's master will be annoyed when the small man gets there first. It waits, and smiles.
When the master finally gives his mental command, Kaisharga takes off. It flies over the shallow pool, briefly witnessing it's own reflection before the rushing air breaks the surface into ripples. It speeds up, and jaws wide open charges at the Gnoll.

Amaranti |
Some people just have faster reactions than others, and Amaranti cannot help but be last to act. Quick command to Kaisharga sends them flying towards the enemy, Amaranti gripping his lance in two hands. "Leave some for meeeeeee! " he bellows and conjures his arcane might on his weapon.
Lance, charge, IC, PA : 1d20 + 11 + 2 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (7) + 11 + 2 + 2 - 2 = 20

Its too late for my brain to work in 3D.. If Amaranti is flying 5ft in the air, does he need to be one square closer to the enemy for it to be in reach? If so, please lockwood.
