As the group investigate the dais Wizzy and Lady Noh find themselves feeling stronger and more invigorated that before, while Rogar, Sidney, and Riken can barely move feeling feeble and suddenly assaulted by the weight of their own equipment.
The great iron doors contain no keyhole and would appear to require being pushed open, though huge as they are it will take prodigious strength to do so.
While on the dais Wizzy has Str 12, Lady Noh Str 13, Sidney Str 1, Riken Str 2, Rogar Str 2. Please roll any strength checks using the appropriate modifiers for these scores.

Rogar tries to approach the iron doors but his armor suddenly weights too much for him to handle and to his dismay he's forced to retreat, limping under the assault of an unknown force.
"Nine hells! What is this foul devilry? I can barely move when approaching that cursed gate!"

![]() |

"Im guessing it's random.. Ill try to get the gate open.." Wizzy moves to the gate and tries to open it..
Str check if needed: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 The strongest he's ever been and still he's weak.. So sad..

![]() |

"Ok so im gonna need a hand here.." He tries again, this time almost pooping his pants as he pushes..
Str Check: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20

![]() |

Though she is unlikely to do this normally, Lady Noh tries to apply principles of leverage to assist as best she can.
Str to assist: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
But she proves to be too dainty to exert enough force.
"Enlarging Wizzy may help," she suggests.

![]() |

But Sidney then realizes he needs to put the ray of enfeeblement on Wizzy.
He does have a 7 INT -- I was hoping someone else would point it out :-)
The sorcerer triggers the wand and points it at Wizzy.

![]() |

Rogar follows the events with a puzzled look on his face:"Anyone's got an idea on what exactly's happening with that door?"

![]() |

If yall can just roll 2 assits for my 19 roll itll be done.. Just need double 15's or better :0.. Might as well try though.. Im talking to you Rogar and Riken..

![]() |

With str 2 Rogar should not even be able to walk with armor... easier to use the wand of enfeeblement and then open it imo

![]() |

I guess as long as it keeps pumping me up sure.. Although it might be smarter to add str back to the rest of the weakened party as well..

![]() |

Riken can barely move under the weight of his armor and gear.
"Hey, wasn't there writing on the statue about strengths and weaknesses? Seems they meant that literally." He says with a half chuckle.
Riken glances at Rogar and Sidney struggling under the weight of their gear too. "I don't think we'll be much help in our current state. In fact, when you get that door open, if you could drag us through, I think we'd all be appreciative."
I'm personally quite amused at the mental picture of the little gnome suddenly powerful, draggin around the big tough guys

![]() |

Unused to this sort of thing, Lady Noh attempts to apply leverage to help Wizzy...
To speed things up, I'll go ahead and roll five Strength checks to assist.
A 9 assists: 5d20 ⇒ (19, 3, 1, 17, 14) = 54

![]() |

So if we can get one more assist on that 19 roll it should be sufficient - edit, nope. I'll make a couple of points, I'm happy for one person to make multiple rolls for everyone trying to speed things along, but if you do please make them in alphabetical order. Its only when you are on the dais that your stength is inverted...
Kalkamedes: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (10) - 2 = 8
Rogar: 1d20 - 4 ⇒ (2) - 4 = -2
Riken: 1d20 - 4 ⇒ (3) - 4 = -1

![]() |

Rogar limps to the door but he can barely stand let alone help opening the massive hinges. He grunts and makes a lot of noise while getting red faced though:"Nyaaaaargh!"
Oh... do you want us to roll the dices or just the rolls that are left?

Ray Str Buffs: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Ray Str Buffs: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Ray Str Buffs: 1d6 ⇒ 6
Ray Str Buffs: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Ray Str Buffs: 1d6 ⇒ 2
Str Checks: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Str Checks: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
Str Checks: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Str Checks: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
Str Checks: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
Ok 5 charges down and didn't even come close.. With it only lasting 1 round he needs max buff, a 19 roll and an assist.. Not likely to happen.. This was a poorly built part of this module..

![]() |

It would have to be a fresh set each time. It does not matter what the rest of you roll if Lady Noh, or Wizzy do not roll very high. Remember its only when you stand on the dais that your strength is inverted...

![]() |

Current Rogar's Strength? On the dais it's 2 with no wand of enfeeblement on. Add teh correct modifier pls
Strength check: 1d20 ⇒ 6
No matter... bad rolls all along sorry

![]() |

I don't know if you are counting any of my five rolls, but here is ten more if they are needed...
Assist on a 9: 10d20 ⇒ (7, 3, 1, 20, 3, 7, 17, 20, 15, 5) = 98
-Posted with Wayfinder

![]() |

Its +2 not +3 I am afraid Wizzy you do not have an uneven str so +5 is only a mod boost of +2. So you need 2 more assists.
Finally with an almighty push from the weakened Riken, and Kalkamedes bumping against the doors again one opens just enough to allow the group to slip through!
Kalkamedes: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (16) - 2 = 14
Lady Noh: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Riken: 1d20 - 5 ⇒ (15) - 5 = 10

Before you you see a black stone corridor, at the end of which suspended by great chains is a massive metal cage shaped like a demon's head hanging over a dark shaft with no bottom in sight. The cage's door - by all appearances a menacing maw. filled with incisor-like fangs - hangs open to the west. There a narrow bridge spans the short distance between the hall and the cage. A small console on the northern edge of the bridge bears a small lever.
It looks like the cage can hold four medium creatures.

![]() |

Lady Noh looks over the edge. "Do any of you have a torch to drop into the pit?" she asks, before she turns her attention to the cage itself and the bridge leading to it.
Lady Noh will examine the area for traps or other hazards. She'll use her jade wayfinder for guidance first, putting her at +12 for the behind-the-screen Perception check to find traps. If she finds any, she'll use the wayfinder again and be at +15 to her Disable Device check. She will start by taking 10 for a 25 and seeing how that goes.

![]() |

As far as Lady Nōh can make out it appears to be a simple untrapped elevator, though she doubts anyone in this age would be capable of replicating it. The biggest danger would seem to be that only four of the group can descend at the same time.
Kalkamedes is making for the demon's head cage.

![]() |

Remember im just a little guy :)
Wizzy sets down his overfilled backpack and begins to dig.. "ive got some torches here somewhere's.. I really need to invest in one of the handy haversacks.. Opp here we go.." and he retrieves a couple of torches.. "Do you not think this will alert anyone below to our presence?"

![]() |

"The grinding of the chains will alert whatever is below," she replies. "This way, we can better prepare ourselves."
"I will stay behind," she then mentions. "Riken, I suggest you stay as well."

![]() |

"Most probably it will" Rogar agrees with Lady Noh. "But I suggest we restrain Kalkamedes now. Magical traps, demon headed elevators... everything points to something deeply unpleasant living down there and I for one don't want to have to decide between saving the old man and defending myself or one of you"

![]() |

"I think we need to let Kalkamedes continue his march. It is sort of destiny."
Sidney adds:
"I can wait for the second trip. I think Lady Noh and Riken need to go for sure. Maybe Rogar and I can catch up if we get it back up or climb down."

![]() |

Rogar answers Sidney:"As long as whatever is down there doesn't end up eating the poor old man... you'd think a group of people calling themselves "thrallkeepers" would keep something nasty ready to defend their stuff... demons, devils or the like, considering the architectural style they favir...". Then he shrugs:"Oh... al right, I've got no problems with letting Rikken and Lady Noh go first... just wait for us down below"

![]() |

The group are able to make two trips down with no incident, the elevator seems to be in good working order.
Palm sized shards of jagged steel jut from halway up the walls of this large cavern, bathing it with a dark green light. A set of natural rock pillars supports the chamber's ceiling, which rises to a height of twenty feet. A small tunnel leads to the northeast, and several rounded alcoves branch off from the main cavern.
Directly to the south is an alcove containing an elaborate summoning circle made from concentric circles of various dull metals. Inside it stands a pink haired gnome in rags whose brow rise in surprise as he sees you,
"Oh thank goodness, please help me! You have to release me I have been trapped here for centuries by those accursed evil Thrallkeepers!"
Kalkamedes is trying to head to the south east where you can make out the beginnings of another alcove, though you cannot yet see within.
Perception Riken: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30
Perception Sidney: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Perception Wizzy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15
Perception Rogar: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Lady Noh Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26

![]() |

Wizzy casts detect magic before they move forward.. He tries to determine whether or not the gnome is lying..
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (5) + 13 = 18
How long have you been hear? What's keeping you here?

![]() |

Let me get this straight: he wants us to help him escape from a summoning circle with no phisical barriers between him and us? If so... LOL. Rogar doesn't know about such things but... REALLY??? XD
Rogar's first instinct would be to help the poor little gnome, yet he scratches his head, puzzled:"Well... gnome... I would love to help you but I don't see what could stop you from walking over here. You mean you needed help reaching the elevator to the floor above? If so, no worries, we lowered it to this level so you can escape back with us when we have found a way to wake up that old man down there..." as he finishes Rogar leaves, moving towards Kalkamedes, ready to stop him from harming himself or causing further trouble for the group.

![]() |

Wizzy: 1d20 + 10 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 10 + 5 = 31
"They bound my blood, used it in to temper all of these circles as they were forged. My father was a great wizard who opposed them and they used me to coerce him into serving them. Then something happened and they all fled, and never returned. Please, my name is Koth'Vaul, you have to help me... Please?"

Dang ill be glad when i can take 10's on knowledge..
Know Planes: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30 Well apparently he's heard about this..
Know Arcana: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24
Know Planes: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20
"Noone touch that circle.. That is not a gnome but a demon called "The Lying Horns", it will try to decieve us into releasing it.. Any gnome that was here this long would have succumbed to the bleaching by now.. Do not speak to it anymore, lets continue on.."

![]() |

KnowArcana: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (6) + 12 = 18
"The Bleaching... I understand and trust your knowledge," Lady Noh comments as they move on.
