Survival: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
After the golem falls, Terrill turns his attention to the floor of the shop, in an effort to continue tracking their prey. Fortunately, there are flecks and smears of wax on the floor here that make tracking relatively easy for one of Terrill’s skill.
”There have been a number of people through this door before us, five or six, I’d say,” Terrill reports, pointing at the unopened door before him. After a careful study of the floor, and a thoughtful pause, he adds, ”And one of them looks to have been a barefoot child.”

![]() |

Well let's go! We can't keep the child waiting now, can we? Bizzle puts his crossbow away, grabs his wand and follows Terrill when he leads the group onward.

EndlessForms |

Terrill leads the group through the door to find a chandler's working clothes lie scattered around the simple back room. A mattress lies along the wall, and stacks of ledgers block access to the wardrobe. In one corner there is a trap door in the floor.

![]() |

Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18
"Well, we should take a look through that trap door," Terrill says quietly, "but first we should check out that lockbox under the bed. I don't want to rob the chandler, but there may be some clues as to what's going on in Karpad."
Sorry to be a post-hog, all, there have just been a series of things that Terrill is suited for, like Perception and Survival checks.

![]() |

Please, be my guest. Keep the game moving, I say! I also have a half-elf Inquisitor of Desna that is 4th level now so I'm partial to you. :)
Yes, quite right. Desperate times and all that. Go ahead, do your thing. Bizzle will cast Detect Magic and see if anything shows on his arcane radar.

![]() |

No worries here, Chasik is built to be a tank and take a whallop. Combat is where I shine the most, and the skills needed right now I would suck at so I agree with the small buddy above me...keep the game moving since this is a mod not an AP so it is longer in general :)

![]() |

No worries. I'm sorry for my intermittent posting.
Wilhelm steps forward, "Is there something that needs opening?" he asks as he holds out his hand for the box.
When presented with the box, Wilhelm examines it closely before removing his set of tools and gets to work fidgeting with the lock, trying his best to appear that he knows what he's doing.

Terrill says, "Right, no need for us to take the man's coin," and begins to turn away from the lockbox. He hesitates for a moment, however, his inquisitorial instinct taking over, and picks up the candle lying amidst the coins. "Now why would someone keep one candle locked up? I wonder if there's more to it?" Holding it up before him, he studies what appear to be a very fine set of arcane markings that run down the candle's side. "This is a candle of truth, which forces those near it to tell the truth when it burns. Why would the chandler have this? I say we hang onto it, perhaps as evidence, and possibly as a useful tool in our investigation."
He pockets the candle and moves over to the trap door with Hiram. "Ready when you are, everyone. I'll lead the way again, if you'd like."
Can go first again, but want to avoid being the Postmonster General - though I appreciate everyone's comments about keeping the game moving.

Do a bit o' good with this.
Wilhelm manages to palm a single gold coin before locking up the box without anyone noticing.
"Candle of truth, eh? Well... yes that may be quite useful." Wilhelm's forehead beads ever so slightly with sweat and he keeps his eyes locked on the candle, wary of it's use.

![]() |

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
Bizzle doesn't think it so strange. Well it IS a candle, a special candle of sorts. Maybe this guy was commissioned to make the candles themselves and whoever created them let him have one as a token of gratitude or something, yes?
As the trap door is opened Bizzle will cast Detect Magic, with his intent being down below. He'll then go down in marching order if the party proceeds.

Good heavens! They are so clever with these traps sometimes. Bizzle seems impressed by the potency of the effect. If we're done playing with the toys, lets go on down and see what else might shock us.

"Stung like hell, didn't it, Hiram?" responds Terrill, still shaking one hand as if he's been stung by an electrified bee. "And I wasn't nearly so quick as you in avoiding it. Shall we see what that trap was protecting?" A grin crosses his face as he adds, "Maybe take it out of someone's hide for zapping us like that?"

![]() |

Terrill lays a hand on Hiram's scorched arm, then quickly pulls it back for fear of hurting the man. "Do you want a bit of healing before we go further? This place has shown itself to be full of nasty surprises. In fact, it's the most unfriendly chandlery I've ever visited."
He draws his curing wand from his belt pouch again and taps Hiram with it if his offer is accepted.

Bizzle said he was detecting magic after the door had been opened so that's what I was going with.
Terrill and Hiram lead the way down the stairs to a room piled high with crates and boxes filled with candles and packing material. Though there was once some semblance of order to this place, it is long done as spools of twine, pots of dye, and other elements of candle manufacture have been dumped here haphazardly.
The most notable thing in the room is the lifeless body of a middle aged woman. Her corpse is splayed out on the ground in a pool of blood and she has a large gash in her swollen throat. Before the party can get too far into the room, two creatures of darkness rise from her burst throat.
