"I’ve called this Town Meeting because of the trouble on the pass. We were expecting a corps from Vigil, and they should have arrived two days ago. We need to send some of our own to The Pass of Thaldor to find out what is going on."

He shuffles nervously, hanging his head as he speaks in his deep voice, "We do not know what has befallen Viktor and Igor who live near the pass; Edgar, Krinsk, Warick, Lyon or Kompio who should have returned from Vigil a week ago; nor of Verdihold and his men who volunteered to investigate.

"I fear the worst. I do not make this request of our people lightly. I call upon the spirit of Last Wall, that those of us, possessed of honour, bravery, and good will, can stand up against the… I don't know what."

His eyes have a glassy look, and he sniffles twice.

"At this time of year, as winter wanes, you all know, that we have little left in the stores and we rely upon The Pass of Thaldor to trade with Vigil. So we have nothing to spare you for this task. However, we will grant you what precious little we have. Brother Thistlethwaite has volunteered his Wand of Cure Light Wounds (2d10 + 10 ⇒ (1, 6) + 10 = 17 charges remaining), and Emong has been awake all night scribing these scrolls for you.

Spoiler:
Knock, Hold Portal, Unseen Servent, Comprehend Languages

"Who will answer this call?"

The Pass of Thaldor is a series of switch-backs cut into an escarpment near your village of Cedarwood. The village was sited near a grove of ancient red cedars, large enough that, with the druid’s careful selection, is able to provide nearby Vigil and beyond with quality timbre without having to fell any of the trees themselves – only branches are harvested.

Cedarwood is occasionally harassed by orcs, goblins, kobolds, or trolls (in that order). Verdihold, the local man-at-arms, and his men usually repulse them with little trouble, and only a few sheep or pigs are lost in any one year.

However, there has been no-one come through the pass for three weeks. People have gone missing.

Character Creation:
Core Rulebook only. No traits.
25 point buy.
1,000 gp worth of gear.
Must be Good.

This will be an old-school dungeon-crawl. We will start out with a large group and see how many can return to Cedarwood with news of … ?

I intend to post frequently. I aim to make this a fast paced, action packed, adventure. I’ll start as soon as we have enough people ready.

As citizens of Last Wall, many of you may have the Shield-Mark upon your right hand. (optional only, no obligation)

Citizenship in Vigil:
From Cities of Golarion.
Supplicants must first present themselves to a Tribune, state their reasons for desiring citizenship, and receive the Shield-Mark, a mark of justice upon the right palm in the shape of a Lastwall shield, sealing their oaths of loyalty to support the crusade and its ideals, and swearing to treat citizens and strangers alike with fairness, honesty, and respect. Aspiring Vigilant soldiers must approach a Precentor Martial in the same way, receiving the Sword-Mark, a second mark of justice upon the left palm in the shape of Iomedae’s symbol, swearing to faithfully serve their commanders, to protect the life of any citizen in danger (even at the risk of their own), and to temper justice with mercy and uphold the best of the crusader ideal.

Mark of Justice

Awesome. This is something I've been craving for a while. Old school Dungeon crawling!!! Give me a minute to knock together my dwarven fighter for submition

Kip84 presents Drakr:

A surly looking Dwarf standing at the back of the hall clangs a gauntleted fist against his banded mail and says in a deep gruff voice "I Have courage to spare. I'll volunteer!"

Drakr looks good. However, you have forgotten to add to the +1 to hit from MW weapon. You're gonna need it.

The beginnings of Pedro are here :-)

We are level 1...right?

Dotting. I have several level 1 characters ready, let's see...

G'ah! I can't believe I didn't say it above.

Start at level 2!

Sorry for any confusion.

I think I'll go with this one, Wulfrid the wolf-raised halfelf paladin. Will update the sheet soon and come up with a short backgroud tomorrow.

I'm also willing to go cleric if there are many who want to play martial characters.

As I often say: Play the character you most want to play.

I equally want to play both, so if we need an healer I'll be happy to be one.

How are we handling the 2nd level hit points?

Pixel Cube wrote:

Roll hit points here. Re-roll One's with hit points. [This will probably be the only house rule I'll introduce.]

1d10 ⇒ 9

Crunch done, background coming tomorrow.

Nice roll for hit points.

I can only find +7 Sense Motive and 17 CMD. What have I missed?

1d12 ⇒ 7 hit points

Whoops! Ranger not Barbarian

1d10 ⇒ 10 Hit Points

Woo! Hoo!

Pedro updated

One of the town's druids, reporting for duty. He'll focus more on spells and will probably take a Domain instead of an animal companion since we seem to have a lot of frontline melee types already. I'm still working on the character sheet, but it should be ready soon.

1d8 ⇒ 4

Well, I'll try to stand in the back.

2 ranks, +3 skill training, +3 skill focus. But you're right about the CMD, it should be 17.

Sounds good.

@PixelCube - thanks, so simple. Silly me. =)

I'm pretty happy with the responses so far. We have:
dwarf fighter
dwarf ranger
half-elf paladin
Human druid

I'd like to see a few more yet. Don't feel like you need to fill out party roles. It's my job to adapt my campaign to the party.

I'd really like to start Monday if we can get enough people ready by then.

I might throw my hat in the ring.Cleric of Iomedae

1d8 ⇒ 4

Putting forth a half-elf wizard for consideration. I'll build up a character sheet behind this alias. I'll be taking a bonded item instead of a familiar.

1d6 ⇒ 2

I'd be interested in playing a gnome bard if you'll have me will fix him up right now.

1d8 ⇒ 8

Oh HP's! 1d10 ⇒ 4 hmm not exactly what I was hoping for but I guess it will have to do.

Grand Lodge

He's me gnome magician is a bard Arch hope your okay with archtypes.
Will work up my background story in a min.

Wow, excellent. I am so chuffed by the balance of this group. I would love to see a Rogue come on board too.

I'm willing to take on a few more players so long as everyone can post regularly, hopefully twice a day, slowing down on weekends.

I'm ready to begin posting in almost exactly 24 hours from now, though I can delay if needed. The difference in time-zones between Sydney, Australia, where I am and the United States or United Kingdom where most of you are, can mess things up sometimes.

A couple of notes and tweaks required before then:

* Core Rulebook only please. Sorry, no archetypes, no Spark or Ear-Piercing Scream. I love those spells, and I love archetypes, but not in this campaign. I wanted Core only as something a bit different for me. I hoe you can still create a fun character.

* All characters must be Good. We are a group of Heroes, setting out to save the village.

* Teamwork- you're gonna need it. Work together as much as possible. I suggest you read the other character sheets, use the discussion board to make plans. I picture each of you as professional adventurers, that you've survived 1 000 xp, and you know what it takes to live long and prosper.

* I'm going to try to provide Knowledge and Perception and other skill checks (with DC) as a spoiler frequently. Please resist reading spoilers that arent for you, that you didn't hit the DC for. At the same time, I'd like to keep the game as transparent as possible - please avoid spoilered posts to the GM.

* I'll be using google docs for maps. Using spreadsheets like this enables you to move your own character across the map. It requires a bit of honesty. Please double check that your move is legal. I'll take screenshots regularly as a history.

* When we are using Initiative please try to post in turn. If you need to post out of turn because RL will prevent you being able to wait, that is fine

* This is meant to be fun. If you're not having fun, please tell me. I'll do what I can to make it fun again. That being said, I think this will be deadly.

I've just noticed I didn't say out load:

I am going to accept all the players who have submitted a character.

Berthold Escheus, a rogue, in the process of being finished.

Cool, a rogue to complement the party. Welcome Bertholdt.

However, we are playing Core Rulebook only. No archetypes, no bear traps.

I run the characters through a spreadsheet from
http://chargen.us.splinder.com/

I am actually using an older one because he has implemented feats from the APG (which is great, but doesn't suit my desires for this game). I use b54 available on this link:

No worries! The sheet was not finished. I started from a previous character (level 3 archetype).

It's done now, except for hp: 1d8 ⇒ 2

I thought that might be the case when I saw 2d6 on the sneak attack. I should've been more patient.

We don't need to do anything on those websites do we?

Lorelei wrote:

No, not at all. Just letting you know that it is what I use to create Core only characters.

Ok, just checking.

Removed the spells you mentioned. Is it ok to take a bonded item rather than a familiar?

Lorelei wrote:

GM thinks:
Yes, of course - it gives me something to sunder rather than kill. Mwhahahhaa.

I mean:
Yes, of course - that's all in the CRB.

I'm kidding, by the way. It is no fun to have your bonded item or familiar killed in PbP. The consequences are too severe.

Not that this means you should use a familiar as a front line fighter by any means...

The Discussion Board is open and linked to this writting. I'd like you to check out the map that I've linked there.

Approximately 12 hours till gameplay starts.=)

Very generously still accepting players.

Is it too late to build a quick high strength monk or barbarian before you start?

Just want to hit things hard!

If it isn't too late; let me put together my glaive/greatsword barbarian with a wand of enlarge person to give to his best buddy wizard.

Greg

That's fine, welcome aboard. Please remember that we are using only the Core Rulebook, and that you must be Good. 25 point buy.

Let me know when you have the character sheet ready.

Gameplay has begun!

No, you're not too late, 4ed. Welcome aboard. Going in posting on the gameplay, and try to get your character sheet done today.

I will call recruiting closed, now that the game has begun.

One last request to help me to manage the campaign, and to set the encounters against your abilities. I think 9 players is outside the scope of what Paizo intended, but I am looking forward to it.

Can you please add your character details to

this spreadsheet
.

It shouldn't take long - just the basic crunch and a list of abilities (just names, details not required).

Thanks.

I think I need to roll by level 2 hp
1d12 ⇒ 11

Nice hp roll, Jobo.

Thank you to everyone who has uploaded their character details to the spreadsheet. This makes things a lot easier for me as GM, particularly when trying to create encounters.
