M somewhat akin to a kender Y / MA

No worries, I am trying to wrap this current battle up before I go on vacation 8/28.

Likely plenty of time to sort all PC's out here, before I get back on 9/8 to start the new chapter......

OK, todays idea is I retire Canvy and a bard turns up.

Very much a support character, can't do much damage himself, but hopes to buff and de-buff a little and be quite good in social situations.

Oh and he likes to paint and draw.....

Soooo, by retire, do you mean Canvy wanders off, or does he go out in a blaze of mind-flayer-flayin' glory?

If that thing comes down for a real fight ... but who knows ... might all be on a dice roll... expect a lot of negative energy I guess ...

At my house we are in the final run-up to our annual fall adventure. This year, we will not have access to wifi for at least four days. In addition, pressure at work related to my anticipated absence and ongoing major project may take me out of the game earlier than that and may keep me off the boards for a while after.

I wanted to post this to all my games while I could to explain that I may go silent for a while. I may get a few more posts in - I'm not sure when radio silence will begin. It could start as early as today - probably late tomorrow - and might run through the 26th if the project goes poorly.

Please don't let my absence stall the game. Bot me as necessary and we will pick up the pieces (or roll up my new character) when I return.

Peace.

I am officially back from my short trip.

M somewhat akin to a kender Y / MA

Finally found a good pathfinder substitute for the speaker in Dreams...

alas if only I had found it sooner, your battle may have been even better, but it's not too late to add a little goodness from this monster before the fight ends!

(Psionic) Phrenic Scourge

Spoiler:

The creature before you stands in a dark robe, its face hidden by a cowl and its hands seem to twitch in unnatural ways as you view it. As you realize that it is not what it seems, its form collapses and it slithers into the darkness, leaving an empty robe even as you feel it stretching its predatory mind out towards you.

SPECIAL ABILITIESImplant (Ex)
The tips of a phrenic scourge’s tendrils constantly die and regrow, much like a human’s fingernails. In any round in which the scourge successfully Strikes the same victim with both tendril attacks, the tip of a tendril breaks off in the flesh and begins to burrow, unless the victim succeeds on a DC 17 Fortitude save. The larva burrows through the host, following its nervous system until it reaches the brain. This takes 1d4+1 rounds, causing 2d4 points of damage per round. When the larva reaches the brain, the subject dies instantly. At any point in this process, the larva can be destroyed with remove disease or heal.

This ability does not function against constructs, elementals, oozes, plants, or undead, and is not instantly fatal to foes with multiple heads. Any creature with natural regeneration or fast healing resists the effects of the implanted larva. The larva is not expelled, but neither can it proceed to the brain. It does continue to cause damage every round, however, as it tries to burrow (assuming the damage it causes exceeds the fast healing or regeneration, of course). This continues until the larva is destroyed, as above, or until 2d10+1 rounds have passed, at which point it dies on its own. The save DC is Constitution-based.

Dispassionate Insight (Ex)
Despite having emotions, phrenic scourges don’t interact with the world through them, but through cold, piercing logic; thus, all psi-like and supernatural abilities a phrenic scourge has use its Intelligence instead of its Charisma for all purposes.

Sap Will (Su)
As a standard action, a phrenic scourge can use this psionic attack to manifest a 20- ft.-radius sphere, which the scourge can center anywhere within 30 ft. (a common tactic is to center the ability on itself, as a scourge is immune to its own sap will ability). Anyone caught in this sphere must succeed on a DC 20 Will save or lose the will to act for 3d4 rounds, during which they are stunned. Once used, this ability can’t be used again for 2 rounds.

Phrenic scourges often use this ability to take out groups of enemies at once, or to hunt for victims they can make into slaves or breeding vessels.

Unnatural Vision (Ex)
A phrenic scourge sees and hears through its entire body; this gives it a +6 racial bonus to Perception checks, and makes it impossible to derive any benefit from flanking it.

When a scourge is disguised as a humanoid, and thus wearing clothes, these benefits are lost.

Compress (Ex)
Although they normally stand as humanoid, phrenic scourges are not bound to that form. By shifting and relaxing their tendrils, they can thin themselves out, or flatten themselves into a mass of writhing limbs no thicker than a snake. As a full-round action, a phrenic scourge can move up to its Speed through a Space as narrow as two or three inches in one dimension, as long as it is at least a foot or more in the other dimension. For instance, a scourge could fit through a hole that was two inches by fourteen inches, but not one two inches by four inches.

Skills: Phrenic scourges have a +8 racial bonus on Climb checks and can always choose to take 10 on Climb checks, even if rushed or threatened.

ECOLOGYEnvironment Underground or temperate plains
Organization Solitary, pair, brood (3–5), or hoard (3–5 plus servants, in any combination of duergar, gnolls, troglodytes, or similar humanoids)
Treasure Double standard

Most phrenic scourges take to wearing humanoid robes, which easily hide their alien features for the casual observer, allowing them to disorient potential attackers and often giving them the upper hand. As combat is joined, they often slither away from these robes to reveal their true natures: writhing coils of tendrils and tentacles, like some madman’s dream had leapt from his mind and taken physical form.

A phrenic scourge is a cunning foe who will turn friend against friend, playing on weaker minds with the use of powerful suggestions, aversions, and charms that make almost any creature regard the scourge as their erstwhile friend. Ideally, this reaches the point where the scourge implants their “true friends” with larvae, dooming them to painful deaths as the breeding grounds for more of their ilk.

Phrenic scourges prefer to hang back out of melee, battering foes with their psionic abilities or sending thralls to fight in their stead. When facing weaker or lone foes, however, they close and attempt to lash the victim with their tendrils, in hopes of implanting him with larvae and breeding a new scourge.

Back from our trip. I hope you were not waiting for me.

I've posted an action.

M somewhat akin to a kender Y / MA

Thus ends the Speaker in Dreams

As always role-playing in the game thread is encouraged, especially if someone wants to exit a character or introduce a new one.

Does Canvy finally collapse into that madness that has been so long barely at bay. Is he committed to the Baron's care as reward for his part in stopping the speaker?

It seemed that everyone was fine with doing either of the two options we discussed before.

Option #1 Continue in Ashardalon Series into the Standing Stone as 7th level characters.

Option #2 Re-enter Shackled City AP into the Demonskar Legacy as 8th level characters.

M somewhat akin to a kender Y / MA

OK so we are high enough level that I think I can open this up without us getting too out of hand.

Savage Species Conversion

I thought maybe one or more of you might like to try something more out of the box as far as your race goes.

Any takers?

M somewhat akin to a kender Y / MA

Me again.

Oh it looks like the vote is standing Stone or no strong preference. So let's try and turn Standing stone into the "side trek" it is.

So my intention is that everyone's 7th level PC's be up and running post haste, (and be ready to level them again right after Standing Stone). Because honestly it is a short module and we will blow right through it!

Any one need to discuss any major changes?

Dwarven Warpriest of Gorum| AC 20, T 11, F 19| HP 78/99| F 8 R 4 W 9, +2 vs poison, spells, spell-like abilities| Init +1| Perc +5| Fervor 6/7| Blessing 7/7| Sacred weapon 7/7| armor 7/7

So I need to rebuild Edrukk as a 7th-level warpriest. I know we had some characters exiting stage left at the end here - how many characters remain? What is the party makeup going forward?

Dwarven Warpriest of Gorum| AC 20, T 11, F 19| HP 78/99| F 8 R 4 W 9, +2 vs poison, spells, spell-like abilities| Init +1| Perc +5| Fervor 6/7| Blessing 7/7| Sacred weapon 7/7| armor 7/7

I'm not worried about the alternate race. Trying out a new class for the first time will be sufficient complexity at this point. And I won't be using the spell points, going back to standard Vancian casting with the warpriest.

I like the spell points, I just don't know if Edrukk is enough of a caster for it to matter, despite his actions in the last fight.

Female Kobold

Erine's heading out as soon as she gets the chance. She's tired of the do-gooder lifestyle and is thinking about "settling down" somewhere out of the way. Me, I just don't have time anymore. I'll give the full speech when she actually departs, though.

Dwarven Warpriest of Gorum| AC 20, T 11, F 19| HP 78/99| F 8 R 4 W 9, +2 vs poison, spells, spell-like abilities| Init +1| Perc +5| Fervor 6/7| Blessing 7/7| Sacred weapon 7/7| armor 7/7

Sorry to see Erine go, but I can see a departure as being in character if you wish it.

For Edrukk, the more I look at the final warpriest rules, the more he's going to be a fighter with tricks than a warrior cleric.

Broccan, I don't want to step on your toes as the primary warrior in the party thus far. I am debating letting Edrukk split his time between crossbow and greatsword, depending on the nature of the battle. What are your thoughts on how they might interact - is that OK with you?

Canvy, what's your character going to look like? Still our madman or something new?

KK, you said earlier you had lined up another player - what's their character plan?

Dwarven Warpriest of Gorum| AC 20, T 11, F 19| HP 78/99| F 8 R 4 W 9, +2 vs poison, spells, spell-like abilities| Init +1| Perc +5| Fervor 6/7| Blessing 7/7| Sacred weapon 7/7| armor 7/7

So what I'm looking at at this point is a complete reload on feats. Not only does he get bonus feats (and a new one, to boot), but the ones he had are are little use to a warpriest.

1st - Toughness, Weapon Focus (Light Crossbow) (bonus feat)
3rd - Power Attack, Furious Focus (bonus feat)
5th - Quick Draw
6th - Vital Strike (bonus feat)
7th - Deadly Aim

with plans for Rapid Reload and Improved Critical (greatsword) (bonus feat) if he survives to 9th level.

That will allow him to use either his light crossbow or his greatsword as a sacred weapon. I know that whatever sacred weapon bonus I select for a day remains all day, but is that for all weapons or per weapon? I might select vicious on the greatsword, but I don't know if it makes sense on a crossbow. I guess it probably qualifies, doesn't it?

I also want to tweak ability scores since Charisma is of little use to a warpriest now. I would like to bump up Dexterity so the crossbow is not a complete waste of time.

Any thoughts, concerns or (in the case of KK) vetoes with these plans?

M somewhat akin to a kender Y / MA

Looks good to me.

Anyone else have anything to adjust before we continue.

I thought Canvy was going to make a bard of some sort...

Questions (for the other players) (answer in Character):
If you were in a bar in the Inner Sea,
Who would you prefer as the Barmaid;
A Human, Half-Elf, Elf, or a Changeling?

What would be Her Hair and Eye colours?

What would be her Style of Hair;

"'er 'air needs t' be 'eld back s' it won't be 'n th' way o' 'er 'ammer, of course. Tied wit' a single band is fine, 'r braided if'n she wishes t' take th' time. What's 'at? She won't be fightin'? If'n she be runnin' th' bar, she best be able t' wield a good cudgel 'r even better a smith's 'ammer."

How's that? Of course, personally, I'm good with a slender build, short brown hair and dark eyes, any of the four races.

That's real good, though it's hard to figure which race was chosen, seems closest to Human or Half-elf.

Any hintings at Deevor's Bard?
and if it's a he what he would like in a barmaid?

also any others who may be joining us?

So far Both Edrukk and Broccan like strong lasses, with Emerald eyes who are not elves.
But differ on hair, Red verse Golden Blonde.

"BAH! 'm not lookin' fer a date - do what ye will!"

This is also a bit of a persona quiz as hair color has personality traits with them as does hair style.

It is also an experimental randomisation method.
As I don't control folks minds, it's the perfect randomisation method.

Dwarven Warpriest of Gorum| AC 20, T 11, F 19| HP 78/99| F 8 R 4 W 9, +2 vs poison, spells, spell-like abilities| Init +1| Perc +5| Fervor 6/7| Blessing 7/7| Sacred weapon 7/7| armor 7/7

No. A perfect randomization method produces a definitive random result. This has produced two contradictory results. Your control over the production of the results actually has no bearing on the randomness, for that matter. If Broccan says "red" every time, your result is not random at all. You might not dictate it, but it wasn't random.

I'm not taking issue with your method, mind you. I just found your comment about it inaccurate.

Ah, but your thinking black and white, not gray scale.

Example; one says red, one says blonde, blend the two and you get red-blonde, which was not on the table before.

Male Human Druid 3 / Wizard (Foresight School) 3 / Mystic Theurge 2

Sanstree is more a DM support character.

Strawberry blonde might be a good effect, or it can change with the seasons......

Apologies. I believe the decisions for Edrukk as a warpriest have been basically completed and no one's pointed out glaring errors, but I have barely had the time to post and show a pulse, let alone put the character sheet together. I don't think you need to wait for me, though - I have enough to play in the short term.

So the current character list of those in the party are

Edrukk, Broccan, a New bard, and myself,
And add Sanstree at times?

I think we left the gear question hanging, didn't we?

Edrukk is going to put his Buccaneer's Breastplate in the kitty for fair distribution among the group. He would like some magical armor in return, of course, but I'd also like to look at upgrading some of his other gear like the crossbow that is now an integral part of his character.

KK, was this your final answer on the wealth question? Or did you want to go with the 25K number you had thrown out earlier?

Edrukk will 'sell' the breastplate to trade for a number of smaller items and I will assume the proceeds were subsumed in whatever funds were used by the rest of the party to gear up.

Let me know if that's not cool.
