Player name: Andrew
Character name: Dale
PFS #: 43439-53
Faction: The Exchange
Day job: Profession (Merchant): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
GM Andrew here. This character is currently in a game but will be finished pretty soon. Will be level 2 for the game.
As a note, I have run this three times and played it twice. (2 of those times running were actually Core Play-By-Post!)

Player name: PJP
Character name: Zarina Magda
PFS #: 150786-24
Faction: Sovereign Court
Day job roll, if any: Perform (Sing): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
Is this replayable? First time for me.
Zarina is not a fighter.

DM Carbide |

It's like the other Tier 1-2 evergreens--unlimited replay for L1 characters, and only once for an L2.

Player Name: Eric Bennett (aka Nefreet)
Character Name: Resolute
PFS ID#: 66548-31
Faction: Silver Crusade
Day Job: None, for a change
He's a Level 2 GM baby, but I'm pretty set on Elf Barbarian. Int 16 for 7 skills, maxed Nature and Geography (think intelligent Wild Elves from D&D).
Haven't bought gear, yet.

DM Carbide |

And because it's PbP, it won't be obvious that you're sitting on your hands to keep from posting "DON'T GO THERE!"

Player name: Andrew Watson
Character name: Brandon Blackfeather
PFS #: 44523-24
Faction: Exchange
Day job roll, if any: Perform Oratory: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21

Hi, unfortunately I am going to have to pull out of this game.
Good luck everyone.

![]() |

Thanks for the invite :
Player name: Lucklesshero
Character name: Dave the Mariner
PFS#: 184087-2
Faction: Grand Lodge
Day job: profession sailor: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20

GM please let me know what stats you'd like listed on Dave's profile bar. I'll update them accordingly. Dave has one chronicle sheet assigned to him ( I GM'd veteran's vault, in core, this last Paizo con). If you use herolab I can send you his character profile via email. If not I can set up a folder in google docs, so you can look at his character sheet, chronicle sheet, and inventory tracking sheet.
Thx for inviting me to the game look forward to the start of play!

DM Carbide |

Minimum of HP, ACs, CMD, saves, Perception, and Init. I've got HeroLab, and my email address is in my profile--go ahead and send it.

DM Carbide |

Given the likely mix of foes and other challenges, any of them would work. Still waiting on the sixth player to dot, but we have one on the WL in case of a no-show.

![]() |

Are we getting started? I only see 3 characters in the gameplay thread and not sure if everyone is ready with their characters to start yet? Or even dotted in the gameplay thread so aware that it started?
To be clear: I'm perfectly fine starting now but just was wondering for the others.

![]() |

Maybe you're right. My "organizer paranoia" just kind of kicked in. ;)

DM Carbide |

I figured this was just preemptive RP =).
That's how I'm treating it. I put up the intro post so you at least had a setting other than "generic tavern," but you won't be doing anything (except maybe buying stuff) until the actual date. The priestess is going to give you some supplies as well, so I should at some point let you know what you're getting to minimize duplication.

I say if we can get a Cleric or Druid by days end let's do it! we're bound to run into un-dead down here so a cleric or even a Paladin would be very helpful. If the GM gives me permission I could make an urgent request on the Flaxseed recruitment board...btw is there a map or a google drive folder link somewhere I haven't noticed?

DM Carbide |

Two Blades had checked in early on, but never posted in the Gameplay thread. I'll PM.

DM Carbide |

Dave--no map up yet.
Two Blades--welcome! Today was the first day of official play, so you didn't miss much.

DM Carbide |

The combat map is up. It's basically the spiral staircase unwound, just in case you get into a fight on it *whistles innocently*.

DM Carbide |

Is it possible to use Google Slides instead of Google Drawings? I post mostly from my phone, and I can manipulate my icon when using Slides, but not Drawings.
Otherwise I would just need someone else to move my icon when I'm not at an actual computer to do it.
Try it now.

DM Carbide |

Since dungeon crawls can bog down in PbP, if it's OK with everyone I'll let a majority decide on direction unless it's going to take you into a major fight.

Fine by me. I may also abstain from most decisions due to the amount of times I've run and played this.

![]() |

I'll only pipe in if I think my character would have a concern. My character has mostly a hired sword mentality and is still getting used to the relative freedom of choice in the Pathfinder Society..
Um along these lines of thoughts..what about a party spokesman? someone who post frequently and has a high wisdom or intelligence ability score (regarding their character LOL..I'm sure we're all geniuses in real life!)...any thoughts?
Come to think of it a character with a high charisma score would also be a natural leader...

![]() |

Dale can be a party face, but a face is not as needed in a dungeon. ;)
Dale likely will chime in with a decision if he's getting impatient, as gnomes do.
I'll have the gnome move to make room for others next round.

![]() |

My vote for tactile leader (the person that settles which direction to go in the dungeon or how best to approach an obstacle) would be "Jack" the Ranger..he has a high dungeoneering score and is as experienced as any in this group (2lv.) As far as the "face" or negotiator of the group I think the clear choice would be Warren Peace if she survives this assault.

I'm thinking from a roll-playing perspective that; after even failing to budge the door even a little we'd be a bit discouraged. Seeing as how we don't have any Dwarf or stone-cunning type ability to know how thick the stone door is (or frankly any picks shovels, sledge hammers..ect..) I'd think we wouldn't want to dull or weapons and waste hours of our time chipping away at this door with a mace a and possible other blunt weapons..So I'm thinking we just use a charge..and not meta this..

DM Carbide |

We need to go pretty quick to get through a module in a PbP game day. When I ran this for Game Day 2, the party managed to take down the body thief, but didn't have time to explore the entire complex before time ran out. This party, though, might manage the whole thing if we can keep up the pace.

![]() |

it's been fun so far..nothing like an old fashioned dungeon crawl! And I'm not the least bit spoiled on this adventure so it's all brand new to me!

![]() |

So who actually has the chime of opening? can we just say we use it on the left door and move on?

![]() |

Dale I placed your pawn inside the statue room..I assume you were posting by phone so it was most likely difficult to move the pawn.. But, you would have needed "line-of -sight" to identify that both the quill and the statue were magical using detect magic..otherwise you would have just felt the presence of two magical auroras from the other room.

![]() |

I'm fine with that. Sometimes when we're not in combat I think in abstracts instead of remembering there's a map. ;)

Hey guys thought I'd pipe in about trapfinding a little..basically there is no taking 10 or 20 when searching for traps because 99% it has some sort of penalty if you fail or puts you in danger or both..Here is the wording from the PFSRD on both taking a 10 and 20
Taking a 10:
When your character is not in immediate danger or distracted, you may choose to take 10. Instead of rolling 1d20 for the skill check, calculate your result as if you had rolled a 10.
Taking a 20:
When you have plenty of time, you are faced with no threats or distractions, and the skill being attempted carries no penalties for failure, you can take 20. In other words, if you a d20 roll enough times, eventually you will get a 20. Instead of rolling 1d20 for the skill check, just calculate your result as if you had rolled a 20.
I suppose if the GM ruled that, if the trap didn't possess an immediate danger to the party..the player searching for or trying to disable the trap could,"take a 10" (like the trap from the old tomb of horrors that changed your gender) but, lets face it most traps deal damage and damage is dangerous..so this would be a super rare event .
Therefore we must conclude by RAW you cannot "take a 10" or "take 20" when searching for traps. Hope this is helpful..

1 person marked this as a favorite. |

It is up to the GM, but BTW later Take 20 says:
Common “take 20” skills include Disable Device (when used to open locks), Escape Artist, and Perception (when attempting to find traps).
