Menarul grumbles about people getting in the way of his bombs while he moves up and then lobs one over both the hobgoblins and Tusks head.

Dang.. had been wanting to get a bomb ready to lob or lobbed at anything that came through the south door. If he can move before Tusk takes his second round action then:
Ranged attack hobgoblin touch, point-blank: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

Crit confirmation, touch: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
possible crit damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

If not then Menarul will target the space behind Mr. Hobgoblin... and deal five points of damage.

Gamemaster | CC Map | S4 Map

Moadis contacted me via PM to let me know he's been extremely busy lately and might not be able to post consistently so we'll just bot him as needed.

All these goblinoids are medium sized yes. Knowledge (local) checks will confirm they are all hobgoblins.

Menarul, I'll allow you to act before Tusk moved adjacent to the hobgoblin.

Smarmy moves back into the prison room to cover the group's rear. He readies himself to strike out at the first enemy that appears, but presently he sees none.

Menarul tosses a bomb at the hobgoblin in the doorway and it groans in pain as it's doused in flames. Screaming from the south indicates another creature was hit with the bomb's splash.

Hearing the sounds of conflict in the previously cavern, Tusk returns to that area and moves into melee range with the burnt hobgoblin.

Back in the altar room, Moadis and Twitnit hear the sound of spellcasting immediately south of the altar. Remember, south is up on this map.

The altar room is the room with the mist correct? If so do I hear the spellcasting as well?

Gamemaster | CC Map | S4 Map

I had to rush that last post out, but it should have read that Valik and Twitnit hear spellcasting in the altar room, Moadis does not. The room Valik and Twitnit are in is the altar room.

Also, since I did not make it clear, Menarul's bomb did not confirm.

Valik moves towards the direction of the magical incantation and finds the hobgoblin woman in the corner in the middle of casting a spell. Using the fog to her advantage, she dodges the monk's weapon.

After bumping into Tusk, then hearing the commotion back the way he came...

spellcraft: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

GM said Twitnit could hear the spell, would like to know what spell he heard

Twitnit turns around puts his hands in front of him again and wanders back the way he came. Bouncing off Menarul, he stops in the space next to him and gets a look at what's going on.

Seeing the hobgoblin next to Tusk, he reacts quickly with Fire Ray

Fire Ray:
Bloodline Power
(1st) Fire Ray (Sp)= Starting at 1st level, you can unleash an elemental ray as a standard action, targeting any foe within 30 feet as a ranged touch attack. This ray deals 1d6 points of fire damage + 1 for every two sorcerer levels you possess. You can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Charisma modifier.

Twitnit speaks a few words...

"অনিশ্চিত, সুন্দর জিনিস, আমি আদেশ!"

Ignan:
"Uncertain, beautiful things, I command!"

... brings both hands together, raises them up with the index fingers pointing straight out, thumbs straight up like a gun. He aims down his thumb sight at the hobgoblin and upon finishing his incantation, an orange-red ray fires from his fingertip and streams towards the enemy.

fire ray: ranged touch: 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 2 + 1 = 14

Jeeze, everyone's abandoning poor Valik to fight alone? =) Ha.

Gamemaster | CC Map | S4 Map

I'm going to bot Moadis until he returns.

Twitnit is unable to identify the spell, but since she's still casting it, that might narrow down the possibilities.

Rejoining the others in the hall to leave Valik to take care of the spellcasting hobgoblin solo, Twitnit shoots a fire ray at the already scorched hobgoblin. With Tusk in the way, however, the ray unfortunately misses.

With the bottleneck in hallway, Moadis pulls out his longsword and moves into the mist room to back up Valik. Although he doesn't have an opportunity to attack the spellcaster, he does threaten her with his sword.

The hobgoblin in the doorway also pulls a longsword and attacks Tusk while yelling some kind of war cry in Goblin. Perhaps catching the gunslinger off guard, the hobgoblin manages to slice deeply into his side. 8 Damage to Tusk

Behind that hobgoblin, a loud voice gives what sounds like a directive, while another voice whines, all in Goblin.

The female hobgoblin finishes her spell and a skeleton appears on top of the altar! She croaks something out in a language neither Valik nor Moadis understand and the skeleton attacks both men with its right and left claws. Despite having the advantage of higher ground, the skeleton is unable to penetrate their defenses.

I'm confused. Is obscurring mist still happening in alter room? Spell shows duration 1 min/lvl. (maybe I'm not suppose to know this info, but how are the skeletons able to locate Moadis and Valik? Does "higher ground" refer to the penalties from obscurring mist: (The vapor obscures all sight, including darkvision, beyond 5 feet. A creature 5 feet away has concealment (attacks have a 20% miss chance). Creatures farther away have total concealment (50% miss chance, and the attacker cannot use sight to locate the target).?

Sovereign Court

1 person marked this as a favorite.
CN Dwarf Rogue 8

You can see anything adjacent to you inside the mist just fine... there's just a 20% miss chance (similar to if it were dim light). Its only if it gets further then that away, that you can't see it at all (then its total concealment (ie: similar to being invisible)).

The summoner lady had to summon it directly beside her, due to not being able to see any further then that. And the only empty space put the skeleton up on top of the alter (thus the higher ground bonus). Once it popped in, both Valik and Maodis were adjacent to it, so it could see them... and didn't hit, so the miss chance wasn't an issue.

Fog is not darkness, where you can't even see the squares adjacent to you

Gamemaster | CC Map | S4 Map

Smarmy has the correct explanation of what occurred with the skeleton and the mist. I didn't roll the miss chance because it wasn't necessary. The higher ground comes from being on top of the altar which is standing a few feet off the ground.

Valik, at first surprised that a skeleton appears next to him easily dodges it's filthy claws with his weapon. He retaliates against the owner of the skeleton, hoping to connect. He swings his sansetsukon, connecting to the woman's rubs, but the fog has caused his force to be diminished as he is unsure exactly her location.

As Twitnit prepares to launch another fire ray at the hobgoblin, he stumbles on some stones on floor and the ray goes wide.

Valik's sansetsukon smacks the spellcasting hobgoblin hard between some interlocking bones, undoubtedly leaving a big bruise later.

Moadis brings his longsword down on the same hobgoblin and cuts deep into her torso.

Smarmy scowls, as the half elf rushes past him ruining his thoughts of sneaking up behind the goblins in the far room.

Instead, he decides to leave him to his own fate, and goes into the hallway into the room with the mist, going as quietly as he can once he hits the fog, so they don't hear him coming.

The half-elf tosses a bomb that strikes the hobgoblin squarely in the chest, while the one fighting Tusk manages to side-step the worst of the splash.

Smarmy moves back into the fog shrouded room and uses the concealment to his advantage to obscure himself.

The female hobgoblin attempts to cast another spell defensively, and manages to get this one off. Moadis suddenly finds himself extremely frightened of the woman and feels the urgency to flee. The skeleton focuses its attacks on the paladin, but none of them hit.

Ouch, a good round for the bad guys!

Not realizing the sudden turn of the tide back outside the room, and seeing the paladin move fearfully past, Smarmy continues to move quickly and stealthily towards where he hears Valik.

Fast Stealth: 1d20 + 7 - 5 ⇒ (5) + 7 - 5 = 7

edit: but isn't nearly as quiet as he might have hoped

He follows the wall until he sees Valik and then moves up beside him, at which point he sees both foes the monk faces.

Not having the proper weapon out for the skeleton, he instead swings his battle axe at the hobgoblin, hoping to take her by surprise from the fog.

Melee Attack, vs possibly flat footed: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22, for 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 damage. Alas, no sneak attack due to the mist

was the skeleton animated or summoned? did we notice?

The skeleton looked like it was summoned out of thin air, but only Valik and Moadis saw that.

Smarmy conceal miss chance (1-20 is miss): 1d100 ⇒ 2

Although Smarmy takes the hobgoblin completely unaware, the fog stymies his attack at the last moment and he completely misses.

GM Screen:

Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

ouch, just when I thought I was doing a good dead, by not blocking my allies.

Tusk swings his axe again with nowhere to go. hit: 3 + 1d20 ⇒ 3 + (15) = 18
dmg: 1d12 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13 slashing edit, hopefully he is finally dead, since 8 damage from the bomb a while back and 13 just now from me assuming 18 is a hit

Wait, didn't Mr. hobgoblin provoke when he closed? Menarul has a reach weapon on him... Unless the bombing took both hands in which case ignore the rest of the post after this sentence: he doesn't have a weapon in hand and will be retreating as far away as possible.
If he did provoke:

Melee, Lucerne hammer: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20
Damage: 1d12 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12

Menarul steps away from the creature and pulls out a flask. With a flick he uncorks and downs the contents. In the next few seconds his hair takes on a deep-green hue, his skin start to thicken and crack much like bark, and the half-elf gains a more bulking lumbering appearance. He smiles at the goblin-thing, beckoning it closer.

Imbibing his Dendrite Mutagen for a +2 to Strength, a +4 Natural armor bonus (AC19), a -2 to intelligence, and in bright light (which I don't think is the case here) fast healing 1. Also, in case mr. goblinoid further provokes:

AoO:

Melee: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
Damage: 1d12 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11

This has been a somewhat slow and complex combat thanks to you guys triggering two encounters at once. :) Due to this, I had forgotten Menarul had a reach weapon in hand, so he does indeed get an AoO. Since that AoO will drop the hobgoblin before he attacks, Menarul does not take the 6 damage from earlier.

As the hobgoblin nears Menarul with plans to eviscerate him, the alchemist brings his hammer down on the goblinoid's head, sniffing him out.

Tusk slashes the other male hobgoblin's neck with his axe, dropping him as well.

Menarul, you may take an alternate action with the above retcon in mind. I'll move on with the combat in about 11 hours otherwise.

But the good guys recover nicely!
