Mira just managed to catch sight of Hood's hand straying to the alchemist's fire. She desperately hoped that Hood was a good shot with that thing. Before she could give it too much thought, though, the lanky man's sudden presence brings her attention back to the matter at hand.

Mira shifts out of the way slightly as a flash of movement to her right announces Wei Ji's intervention with her attacker. "Thanks!" she calls out, "I'll keep this one busy for you!". The way they were positioned, she could at least keep things from turning into a 2-on-1 situation against the Tengu.

The fog was going to be an issue. She was a good shot, but even she couldn't be confident with her opponents little more than misty shadows. Reaching under her cloak, the gunslinger draws her bayonet and quickly affixes it to the barrel of her musket. With luck, her opponent wouldn't see a melee attack coming.

With a lunge and a battlecry, the woman wields her gun like a spear, aiming straight for what she hopped was the middle of the lanky man.

"We should move back and force them to come out if they want to fight. I suggest we pull back and ready ranged attacks if they so much as step to the edge of the fog."

I think I got him as he was entering the second square, the first one would not have triggered, it was the full movement crossing through a threat square? As the one who took a whack at him, I'm okay with him being where he is? You need me to move next turn?

"The fog is only a small part of the problem captain. The ally is only big enough for one person to effectively fight. It looks like it widens a little farther up, but it still looks tight. You would be lucky if two people could fight side by side. Fortunately their back line can't really do much more then we can."

Havok moves into the fog, swinging at and missing the lanky man. Boldren takes cover and prepares to Magic Missile the first enemy he can see while Vinny prepares a bomb to throw, given an opportunity.

Wei Ji unleashes with all he's got on the mustached halfling, but only catches him with the sap across his face. Mira stabs with her bayonet, but some force seems to deflect her blade at the last second. (Bummer! This is the first time I've seen alignment make the difference between a hit and a miss.)

You hear the women's voices chanting more incantations as the lanky man stabs back at Mira with his rapier, but misses by a much wider margin than she did.

The raging halfling strikes mercilessly with his greataxe, slashing through cloth and feathers to find the meat and bone beneath, leaving a terrible wound in his upper thigh. "Who wants darkmeat! Ahahaha!" He laughs maniacally. (Wei Ji takes 12 damage! Party is up!)

Edit: Please note that withdrawing as a party IS an option here!

I had made a ranged touch attack above. If I can't target the square she was last in, I think I can target an intersection? I just don't have many other options right now, so I'd like to throw it in there.

Yes, Hood can target a square or an intersection. Draco, suggesting a course of action is only a free action, so you can still act if the party doesn't withdraw.

The alchemists fire lights up the mist in an explosion, drawing cries of pain from some of your attackers, as well as Wei Ji.
Wei takes 1 point of splash damage as he was adjacent to that square at the time. Fire is now burning in that square, waiting on Mira to see if withdrawing is an option.

Mira takes one last look at her opponents through the mist before withdrawing themselves. It really was a no-win situation. Either they got injured or killed by... whoever these people were, or they potentially had a situation with the city watch for fighting in the streets. Neither sounded like a good option to her. It was time to focus on the misison and get out of here.

You hear a feminine growl of anger and frustration come from the fog as the party bids a hasty retreat back through the crowded street performance. "You idiots, they're getting away! You were supposed to pen them in! A whole day wasted following those newbie Pathfinder marks and not even one gold piece to show for it!" They do not follow you, as they begin bickering among themselves and soon you find an alternative route back to the safety of the Grand Lodge.

Valsin stalks the entryway worriedly and relief sweeps over his stern face as your party enters. "I expected you lot back hours ago. Did you complete all your tasks?" His gaze passes over the partially healed wound in Wei Ji's thigh and his eyebrows knit together in concern. "Looks like you ran into trouble! What happened?"

Valsin takes your report on the events of the day and makes detailed notes on the shady characters who ambushed you. "Good work today, Pathfinders! We'll track down those ne'er-do-wells and put an end to their mugging. I promise your next assignment will carry you beyond the walls of Absalom."

Wei is feeling particularly vindictive after nearly getting dismembered by the halfling. As the party makes its escape he leaves the following words out there for the muggers to chew on.

"GOOD JOB, GUYS! The GUARD can take over from here! Good job dropping fire in the middle of their formation as we planned!"

The tengu nods to the question about the completion of tasks, then cracks his neck, willing to let anyone else in the party try to explain first. He gives a meaningful glance to Hood, because he seems keen on theatrics he may just be the best one to do it.

And then he'll sit down. Because his leg hurts!

"Well, that could have gone better!" Hood manages as they depart.

"But for your first day, you guys did all right. With a little more pyrotechnics training, I think I could make something out of you!" Hood says.

"What do we have planned for tomorrow? Oh, hey fire-maker guy!" he says to Vincenzo. "I seem to have used up all my explosions in a flask! Could I get some more of those?!" the halfling's voice trails off as they head back to the lodge.

But you need, what do you call it, a little special something to really make em pop, you know?" He shrugged. "Or maybe you dont. Im not sure I got it figured out either. What matters is, when I want it to go boom, you know, it does." Whether by design or accident, he fumbled the vial onto the ground, the chemicals sputtering and flaring, a few sparks jumping from the puddle before the whole thing went out with an unceremonious pop.

"See?"

Mira steps in front of Hood and Vinny in a feeble attempt to hide their alchemical experiments from view of Valsin as she reported. "The tasks themselves went off without a hitch, sir. We noticed a few people that seemed to be following us throughout the day though."

"It wasn't until we finished, though, that they tried to attack us in an alleyway. They seemed to be run-of-the-mill thugs, though they had us marked as newbie Pathfinders. We withdrew after Wei Ji got hit. No need to call the Society's reputation into question by brawling in the streets, right?"

"Ideally, we would have subdued them for questioning, but after that halfling beserker started frothing at the mouth and swinging that axe around there really wasn't any room for discussion. Withdrawal was our best option, even if it did make us a bit late. Better alive to tell the tale than dead and having it lost, right?"

The tengu pauses for a moment, then looks around to the rest of the party. "Despite some bumps we got it together and really worked well as a group. 'd love to take further duties with the rest of you, if the Society needs it. Need them to keep me on my toes, too. Too much hemming and hawing on my part almost cost us big."
