The snakes writhe and roil in pain under the assault of Havok's flames. They slither away from the burning ground, swarming over Captain Havok in the process. They climb over him, biting him again and again with their tiny fangs. The sensation is disorienting and he feels a bout of nausea coming on, but the Luck of Kurgess gives him a respite as he masters himself.
Taking 'Held' action
When Wei sees Havok step up, he lets out a momentary sigh of relief then realizes that the man is attempting to throw at the clump of snakes. He's too slow to stop the attack on the soldier, but does move up in an effort to draw them to him/flank the snakes (if that is possible -- not *quite* sure where Wei'd need to be positioned for that if it is.)"Awk! Over here, you slithering idiots!" Okay, perhaps not the wisest of moves, but he's trying to get them off of Havok.
Given that it was treated as a 'held' action -- didn't realize I could move my token on the map until this evening -- it should go off before the end of the round, at least, hopefully. Also, if I've mangled the position if flanking is possible, there are three squares of movement remaining to play with? Sorry for being a bit rough on this! Also, should I reroll or keep what I rolled from before?

Boldren’s baritone voice sounds out in an attempt to inform the group about the danger of the swarm.
Your armor will not help you. Tactical defensive fighting will not help you. There is virtually no protection against a mass of vermin like this. They are large enough that you can strike them with your weapons, but they take less damage from a bladed or thrusting weapon. If they envelop you in their mass, you will be bitten and likely poisoned. Best weapon to destroy the mass, is a grenade like weapon that will damage all of its moving parts. Preferred combat tactic would be to spread out and damage it if you can. Common mistake, is to group together and make one big target. Because the mass is made up of many parts, there is no discernible front or back. Flanking them will have little to no effect and you will never strike them with a critical blow.

Wei Ji, it sounded to me like you were taking up a defensive posture and waiting for the snakes to come to you. In cases like that, it's a held attack that triggers when/if the enemy comes within range. No need to make multiple rolls. I'm actually a math tutor in my free time, so I can handle changing the bonus without a new roll. ^_~

Ah! Good point, that was a direct hit rather than targeting the square and I forgot the +50% damage from splash weapons, those snakes are BBQ'ed!
The swarm of snakes is nothing more than a smoldering pile of twitching remains after the smoke clears from Janira's alchemist fire.
COMBAT OVER!
"Good job, team. That's how you deal with a swarm! But we've still got a ways to go before we reach the cave. Let's not waste the daylight."
As the group continues to travel through the wilderness, Janira becomes frustrated as you find trails blocked by fallen objects, shortcuts overgrown, and other minor delays that cost time.
"I don't suppose any of you are adept at trailblazing? If we don't find a better way through, we won't arrive during our appointed time-table"

Draco and Wei Ji succeed at finding a timely route through the overgrown brush and fallen branches. Janira seems at ease again as you draw near to your destination.
The dense forest opens to a wide clearing at the base of a sheer cliff. Thick vines cover the surface of the cliff stretching 30 feet overhead. “Here! The cave entrance is behind those vines,” Janira says with a broad smile as she walks to the cliff’s face. She pulls back several layers of vegetation to reveal a narrow crack in the cliff’s surface. “This is where I saw the gillmen enter.” As she motions toward the aperture, the surrounding woods come alive with the sound of small animals fleeing some unseen danger and a large creature crashing through the undergrowth.
The halfling worriedly remarks, “Quick, take cover before whatever it is spots us!” As if she’d summoned the creature with her words, a massive horned monstrosity emerges from the trees. Standing eight feet tall on a pair of cloven hooves and wielding a tremendous axe, the bull-headed creature roars with unbridled anger when it spots the group. Wisely assessing that this beast is beyond her charges’ capabilities, Janira screams, “A minotaur! There’s little chance we can stand against it. Take this bag,” she continues, pulling off her backpack, “and head deeper into the caves. Finish your mission. I’ll lead it away from the caves, lose it in the forest, and join you as soon as I can. Now go! GO!” She heaves her backpack into the cave, casts a spell, and darts off toward the minotaur before turning to lure it away.

"But..." Was all Jorag managed in reply, a pained look of indecision on his face as the tiny woman darted towards the minotaur. Pushed into motion by someone else in the group, he found himself in the cave, wondering what had just happened. "We cant just leave her to handle that thing! Shes like a little girl!"
He took a few steps towards the opening, before realization set in. He sighed heavily. "But its too late now, isnt it?" He clasped his hands, and after a few deep breaths his expression turned more serene, though still troubled. "Kurgess willing, she will endure the trail she has chosen. I shall pray for her safe return."
"Now." He said, turning towards the others. "Who shall take the lead? Maybe you Captain? And do we have some light?"

Wei will be a bit anxious as the journey passes, and at the point right before the encounter he mutters something about '...the longer everything goes according...'
When the minotaur appears Wei starts waving folks into the cave, standing as a guard should Janira's efforts fail. Hopefully no one gets the idea to be a hero after the expedition leader offered to lead the thing away.
Once the last person is in the cave, he ducks in and if no one else picks up the halfling's pack, he will.
"Keep it a bit quieter while we regroup. If someone doesn't have the eyes for this sort of setting, I've got a special torch they can use. I'd rather not use it myself, as it kind of messes up any sneaking I'm doing." The tengu's tone is quiet, but not a whisper. Whispers carry further than just quiet speech.
"Also," he continues "I've got a wand for someone who can use them well to help with the healing, as well. It's a bit used, so be sparing with it. One of the expeditions I was on, we handed it off to one of the folks who wasn't a cleric so we'd have the healing split up a bit for insurance. Not picky who gets it?" Whoever borrows the wand for this trip will be gently reminded to 'Use it when it looks like we need it, charges are cheap, lives are not.'
He points to Janira's backpack. "We should also go through that and see what other assets Janira brought along, she sounded like she gave it to us to use. We won't steal anything and we can keep track of what if anything we use, so we can try to reimburse her when this is done."
He tries NOT to think too hard of the life expectancy of a halfling bard versus a minotaur solo, even a sneaky bard.
Wei is offering use of an Everburning torch to someone who doesn't have either Low-Light Vision or Darkvision, and a Wand of Cure Light Wounds with 24 charges remaining.

Kiri frowns at the request to abandon their captain.
"Are we sure? I think we could take the creature, if we all work together!" the elf responds to the others.
But seeing the rest enter the cave, it seems she has little choice, and follows along.
"I hope she will survive that encounter," she says with little emotion.

Mira takes the gun off her back and raises it at the minotaur, debating whether she should take a shot despite Janira's warning. With a frustrated sigh, she lowers the weapon. The shot was too far, and she didn't trust it much beyond a stone's throw. What if she messed up and hit their mentor by mistake? Following the others into the cave she voices her frustration. "She made the choice she did because of our inexperience. If we try to take off after it now, all we'd be doing is giving her people to babysit. She'll be fine. They wouldn't place her in charge of us if she couldn't handle something like this."
Mira gives a brief nod of approval at Wei's suggestion to go through Janira's pack. They all would take responsibility if their actions were frowned on, but she had a hard time believing the plucky halfling would get upset, especially if they offered to replace what they used. Pulling out her own pack, Mira pulls out a sunrod and strikes it on the ground, reassured as the stick comes to life with a soft glow. She then tucks the rod through her belt, leaving her hands free to handle her gun as needed. Speaking up, she voices her opinion on what do to next. "If I might disagree, Jorag. I respect your experience on the matter, and I think Havok's background makes him a good choice to serve as leader in a battle." The woman hesitates slightly, she had never done any work with the Pathfinders before, how much weight did her opinion really carry? "But we don't know what's waiting ahead of us, I think we should have people in the lead who can scout ahead without getting caught."
Mira looks at their group's Tengu with an approving smile, "You barely made a sound through all that underbrush, Wei. And I've had practice being sneaky on hunting trips with Gramps. What do you think, want to scout ahead with me?"

"Being quiet when the taskmasters came through helped prevent beatings. Being aware that they were drunk and looking for a fight also tended to help in that regard, too. Not adverse to the idea, but... you're going to stick out a bit with that glowing bit you've got cooking? Perhaps I go ahead a bit, you follow up a bit after? Sound good?

"Yes, it would be a good idea to look through what we have to work with, and it might be imperative that we know what we're facing ahead of time. However, I will opt out of carrying the pack. Mira un-tucks her shirt and slips it over the tip of the sunrod to dampen the light as much as possible. "We can't all see in the dark. If you guys need me to, I can lead you through the tunnels and combat situations. I led my own small groups of experts back in the day so I know what to do. However, in that case it is important that my orders are followed during combat situations. If not, it could lead to chaos and casualties.
Now as to scouting, its good to have two over one, in case of trouble. But do not stray too far away from us or we cannot come to your aid.
And I can hold a torch just fine, without it interfering with my combat capabilities. I can also carry the bag without issue. Let's see what Janira left us with shall we?"

Holding the stone close to his lips, Boldren whispers something to the round object, as if it were able to understand his words. After the short conversation with the stone ends, Boldren tosses the smooth stone into the air and it begins to orbit around his head like a miniature planet.
Boldren turns to Captain Havok and replies in a deep baritone voice. That was unfortunate, she was a good soul. Speaking for myself, I am more than willing to follow your lead. At Havok and Boldrens, Jorag nodded. "I would prefer to remain outside of immediate combat and focus on what I do well, but should you find me needed in the fray, I will do my best."

The minotaur moves to overtake the group before they can retreat to the safety of the caves, but Janira shouts some taunt in a strange language and buries a crossbow bolt deep in it's shoulder and the great beast turns to pursue her small form. The nimble halfling bounds off into the forest with the bull-headed monstrosity hot on her heels, fighting its way through the dense undergrowth. Soon the cacophony of the chase fades and the sounds of the forest slowly return to normal.
The cave entrance is only 5 feet wide and extends 20 feet into the rock before widening into a broader tunnel.
Janira's pack is a prime example of halfling preparedness. Inside you find a potion of barkskin, potions of cure light wounds (2), potion of feather step, potion of vanish, scroll of entangle, scroll of gust of wind, scroll of identify, scroll of mage armor (CL 6), scroll of obscuring mist, wand of burning hands (CL 3rd, 4 charges), wand of cure light wounds (CL 3rd, 6 charges), acid, alchemist’s fire, holy water, smokestick, tanglefoot bag, thunderstone, antitoxin, and sunrods (2)
The narrow tunnel twists and turns for several hundred feet before slowly opening to a wider passage. A large hole spans the cave’s width and stretches ten feet down the path. At the bottom of the 20 foot pit lies a small bundle of cloth.
The party needs to cross the open pit before proceeding on. Jumping the pit is an option, but risks a fall. Using rope will allow you all to work together to get everyone across. Feel free to get creative!

If we are handing out the gear from her pack, to be used on this adventure, I would be interested in the tanglefoot bag, thunderstone, alchemist’s fire, scroll of mage armor (CL6), scroll of identify, and scroll of obscuring mist. If there is anyone else that can use these items and would like to carry them, I will gladly withdraw my offer to hold them and allow someone else to use them.
Boldren raises his hand into the air and begins forming arcane gestures that leave behind remnants of faint magic. He begins speaking in a language understood by those capable of understanding the rich complicated dialect of the arcane. After his words trail off into a deep hum, his eyes begin to sparkle with a faint glow. For a moment he seems preoccupied staring at the bundle of cloth in the pit.
Boldren casts detect magic and focus on the cloth in the pit.
I'm feeling a little uncomfortable with that bundle of cloth in the bottom of the pit. I'm not sure why, it just seems like an odd place to leave something like that.

Boldren finds the cloth does indeed radiate with a faint magical aura.
You recognize the magic the cloth is imbued with easily. It is a common cantrip, called resistance. Commonly, this spell is woven into cloaks to provide long-term protection. You suspect this is the case here. The cloth is a Cloak of resistance +1

Can I or the other magus PLEASE have it? Spell combat is awesome, but the magus is squishy when it comes to AC and we may be doing a lot of saves! p.s., magi are meant for close combat.

Wei will stop himself before teetering into the pit, and examine it thoughtfully, signalling well enough ahead of time to prevent any party members from entering the pit by accident. He murmurs a bit to himself, making some hand gestures, almost like he's using his hands to help him do math.
Story problem time. If a tengu has 100' of silk rope and a climber kit, how much of it would be lost in the process of building a three-rope bridge capable of sustaining the weight of the heaviest member of the party? Profession: Engineering valid?

"The concern I have is that we don't know what is underneath the cloth. If we go down there, and we move it, and it's acting as a cork for something, we're kind of stuck down there. If we remove it when we're not close, then we have a chance to react? Just my thinking, at any rate?"

Wei Ji, if you take the time to fashion a rope bridge you will need to cut at least one 50 ft length of rope to tie connections, but it's not necessarily destroyed since a minor cantrip can repair it if you keep the pieces. But someone must anchor it on both sides.
Havok, I'm afraid that's a no on taking 10, jumping or climbing over the pit puts you in danger of falling. Now if you can think of a way to eliminate the risk of falling, I'll allow it.
As the others discuss how best to descend into the pit, Kiri removes some rope from her pack, ties it off, and climbs down.
"You all worry too much," she states flatly.
She casts detect magic at the bottom of the pit as she investigates the cloth.
Kiri secures her rope to a nearby stalagmite and begins to rappel down into the pit. Unfortunately, her footing slips and she looses her grip on the rope, tumbling down 20 feet to the hard-packed ground below. (Kiri takes 6 falling damage)

I think we should go with creating a loop of rope and have her secure herself after getting the cloak, and I also think we should go with Wei's idea of making a rope bridge to get across.

The gunslinger cringes as Kiri takes a tumble. That sounded painful. Leaning carefully over the edge, Mira peers down to make sure their companion wasn't too badly hurt. Looking across at the other side, she tries to mentally judge the distance. It wasn't too bad. Not much wider than the creek she played near as a kid. "I think I can take care of getting a rope on the other side. Regardless of whether we go for a rope bridge or a climb, somebody's got to get to the other side and secure it. Hold this please?" Mira directs her question at Boldren, offering him one end of the rope from her pack. After dropping a generous amount of slack on the ground, she holds the other end of the rope tightly, takes a running start, and throws herself across the pit.

The tengu sets to preparing the well-designed and math'd rope bridge, and then winces when Kiri charges on ahead and nearly takes a header into the pit.
"Three things to consider while you're down there and folks are figuring out how to get you healed up. One, if that belonged to someone who died violently, sometimes things happen around that kind of item, fire, shock, crazy stuff. Two, if there's a slime or mold or something lying in ambush under it, you'll be right there to get whacked when you move the cloth. Three, you could have an undead something or other under it, too. I mean, seriously, who just leaves magic items lying around for wandering folks who come visiting to pick up?"
When Mira sticks the landing on the leap he applauds. "Couldn't've done better myself. Good job. Ready for the bridge?"
What kind of roll would that be?
